It has been a hot minute since have eaten here so we decided to have supper here Sunday night 3/22/26. We ordered and shared a city sampler which included a sausage link, smoked turkey, pulled pork and brisket. It was more than enough for us to share and included two sides and Texas toast. The wife got fried okra and I got baked beans because there is plenty of brisket mixed in with the beans. Service however was awful on this visit. When we arrived around 5:50 pm we were the only ones in line and yet the girl that was supposed to be taking orders was at the far end of the counter talking to some young guy. I know she had to see us but it was quite obvious that her conversation with him was more important than waiting on customers as she let us stand there several minutes before ending the conversation and coming to take our order. Then when my name was called to come pick up our order, a girl just handed my tray to me and turned around and walked away, no thank you, hope you enjoy it, nothing. How do you enteract with customers and not even speak to them?? The dining room was not clean. My wife had to clean off the table we sat at and there were napkins and a recipient laying on the floor in front of one of the trash cans. There wasn't that many diners at the time and too many employee's standing around for the dining room not to have been kept clean. The food would have been good if it had been served much warmer than it was and the service sucked!! We have had many good experiences here at City Barbeque in the past but the wife and I agreed after being served lukewarm food and the beyond crappy customer service we will no longer spend our hard earned money here so a return visit will not be happening. read more

This was kind of a strange setup. It's almost like going to a Viva Chicken or a Chipotle but for barbecue. You simply go and place your order at the counter, pay, and pick up your order. You seat yourself here. No front of house. I ordered the pulled pork with a side of cole slaw. The portion size was just right for one person. I really liked that you can help yourself to what were delicious dill pickles and that there was lemon for the iced tea. All in all it was solid barbecue. Even though barbecue isn't necessarily my favorite, I do usually enjoy it when it's the group pick! I have been to a couple others and they are all solid locations. I came to this one for a work lunch with some colleagues and enjoyed a couple meats, collard greens and mac and cheese. Service was fast and friendly and everything tasted great. The pulled pork and chicken are my favorite, especially with one of the spicier sauces. The sides are a good portion too. Also love the condiment/sauce bar- endless pickles and jalapeños! My coworkers enjoyed their dishes too and we had a good quick lunch here. This location is larger and a lot more decorated, has a nice unique feel to it that makes me feel less chain-like. I'm always looking for a place to eat after church on Sunday that's not packed. This was it since we arrived at noon. It started filling up by 12:30 and by 1pm there were just high top tables left. It's great for groups. If you're traveling and want real food but short on time, great spot. After ordering, I got our drinks, silverware and bbq sauces. About 2 minutes later our food was ready. Printed Menus are available while waiting in line, unfortunately the prices are not on them. The cashier was helpful helping me put together our order. $19.99 for brisket, 3 sides. My mom walks with a walker and I was able to get her seated in a booth before ordering. Dining area is also spacious enough for a wheelchair. There's patio seating as well. When you walk in pickup orders are to the left all others are to the right. Spacious dining area, clean. Napkins, ketchup, salt and pepper are on the tables. Parking is shared as it's located in a plaza. If you're the non meat eater in your party, minimal options. Many of the sides have meat in it. The side salad is good and has good lettuce, tomato, cucumber and red onion. I also ordered the peach cobbler since I remember it being delicious. It was also at a different location. Not sure if the recipe changed but I'm no longer fond of it. Next time it'll be back to banana pudding. Hopefully that's the same. My mom loved her food as she devoured everything. City Barbecue is my local fav. DO NOT PASS UP THE WINGS!!! They are so good! But honestly it's all good. I absolutely love the meal options for various size families and dinners. We love to get one of those meal options so we get all of the meats! I could literally go on forever about their corn pudding and collard greens, but the baked beans are also amazing and so are the green beans. I have never had anything here that is bad and it is my go to when I don't know what to do for dinner. And the banana pudding, it. Is. The. I visited this location on 1/30/2025 at approx. 6:45 pm. I placed my to go order and a group of people came in behind me to dine in. I waited on my food for over 20 minutes to be prepared and bagged, where as the group behind me received their food and seated in 10 minutes. The cashier had placed my side dishes on the counter waiting for my meat. The young lady bagging orders and placing dine in orders on the trays took my sides and my meat and gave it to the dine in people that came after me. It was definitely a case of rasicm. Ribs were burnt, hard, dry, and smaller than competitors. Hushpuppies are big and crunchy. Peach cobbler is one of the best. 1/5 wings 2/5 ribs 4/5 Hushpuppies 5/5 peach cobbler I've been here 5 times. Quality was better a few years back but I think I'm tapped out here. We used to love City, but we will not return. We ordered $350 worth of food for a luncheon for 20 people on Door Dash. We ordered well in advance for pickup on Sunday, and called the store to confirm our order and pick up time. We were told all was well. We went to pick up our order on Sunday and were told they didn't even have our order. We had receipt and pickup time confirmation in hand. The staff just acted confused and the manager finally came out to tell us that our order just came in, and it would be 3:45 before it would be fulfilled. Seriously? We had 20 people waiting to eat. So because of that and with no attempts to make anything right, we had to rush around at Publix and buy all their chicken and sides for our luncheon. It was embarrassing to say the least. We are shocked and appalled at the lack of care, concern, and willingness to make things right. We will not return for our future large functions. read more

The best barbecue in the Charlotte area and I should know cause I've tried so many! The ribs, chicken and brisket are all fantastic. I didn't try the turkey breast. On special occasions they also serve burnt ends. The sides are fantastic and house made. I especially like the potato salad, the corn bread and their wonderful baked beans. This time I took it home for s late dinner so I didn't indulge with the fries and green beans which partnered with my last meal. If you join their rewards program you can get a variety of discounts which makes this a reasonable regular meal - we dine here about once a week, on average. I like the beef brisket, especially the bark, and our party normally gets the smoked turkey (When it is actually available; it seems they run out about half the time). The sides are great as well.
