Combo plate with brisket, burnt pork ends and sides.

Pretty much what you should expect from a BBQ joint. Ordering at the counter was easy and the restaurant was clean. Food was great. Had the brisket and burnt pork ends. So glad there's finally good BBQ on the south parkway.

The smell outside lures you in! They have what they have till they sell out so you know it's fresh. We got the 6 wings dry rub, a bit dry but good flavor on the rub. Loved the Alabama white sauce to go with them! We ordered a platter to share. We picked the smoked turkey, sausage, pork and brisket. Our two sides were baked beans and potato salad. Served with buttered bread. The best meat on the platter that day was the turkey, tender and flavorful. The pork was slightly gritty tasting - I've had much better. The brisket was a disgrace this date - extremely dry almost inedible. The two sides were great - baked beans were super sweet. They have a station with all of their sauces and fixins - jalapeños, pickled onion, etc.

Driving down South Parkway I saw a sign for City Barbecue. I turned into the parking lot. The parking was pretty full as I drove around. I did find a place to park. It was 2:30 Friday afternoon. Inside the restaurant had 4 customers. I heard the lady at the register tell the man in front of me they only had pulled pork and brisket. My brain wasn't happy hearing that. When it was my turn, I asked if they had turkey and she apologized. I asked why didn't they have all their advertised meats and she said they were slammed at lunch. The line to get it wrapped all around the building. Fortunately the chicken and ribs were ready. I ordered a Judge's Sampler for Dave with potato salad and fried okra for Dave. This plate had a half rack of ribs, chicken breast and wing, pulled pork, and brisket. The brisket was good with a nice bark and flavor. The ribs were very good but needed to cook longer in my opinion. The chicken breast and wing combo were very good but needed to cook longer in my opinion. The pulled pork was good but not as flavorful as Big Bob Gibson in Decatur. The potato salad was the best I have had in any restaurant. The fried okra was freshly fried with a light batter and excellent. 5/5 I ordered a BBQ baked potato with pulled pork, collard greens, green beans, and mac and cheese. My baked potato was the smallest baked potato I have ever gotten in a bbq restaurant. There was a sauce in the potato that had a hint of spice and was good. The collards, green beans and macaroni and cheese were like grandma cooks. I like creamier macaroni and cheese but it was good. 5/5 I found out the restaurant has been open a short time and that explains the line wrapped around the building and running out of meats. Of the bbq restaurants here in town, this one is the best in my opinion ion. They have several sauces you can put on the meats to enhance flavors. I tried everything without sauces first. Then I used sauces for a bit of heat and spice. The food is great here. The employees are very nice and accommodating. I will return again soon. It's good y'all. 5/5

The staff is friendly and the food here is pretty good. They were busy during lunch when I went, so there was a bit of a wait to order. I got the two meat plate with pulled pork, brisket that has an up-charge, and fried okra and collard.greens with pork as my sides. The pork was good and the brisket wasn't bad, but a little dry. The soda machine was down due to no CO2 but they had 2 liter sodas, along with their tea and lemonade. The ambiance was very casual.

I was pleasantly surprised with City BBQ! I came here on a whim with some coworkers that recommended this place. When I first stepped in the building, the smell was impeccable. My nose usually doesn't steer me wrong. I opted for the two meat and two side plate. I originally ordered the Bama pulled chicken with the ribs but they had mixed up my order with a coworker's which was fine because after tasting the chicken I really didn't care for it. But everything else was absolutely delicious here! Ribs were nicely cooked and the pulled pork was some of the best I've had. Service was good and had positive interactions with them. Lemonade was also really good. My only dislike was the Carolina bbq sauces. But their others were fine. I was skeptical about the potato salad but it was delicious and I prefer shredded coleslaw over the fine diced and this was perfect. Will be back when I'm on this side of town.

First, City BBQ smells so good! They should bottle the smell and sell it as a cologne. Today was their grand opening, and I was the first customer when they opened the doors. They presented the Mother Load to me, which includes brisket, pork, turkey, ribs, sausage, mac & cheese, coleslaw, corn pudding, potato salad, green beans, cornbread, and Texas toast. Everything was phenomenal!!!! The ribs were cooked perfectly, and the rub had a perfect amount of heat. The sausage had a nice crisp bite. The best was the smoked turkey; it was very moist, tender, and had the proper amount of smoke. All of the sides were great. Finally, the management team is first-class, and they are so eager to bring high-quality BBQ to the Huntsville community.

    Leg/Thigh

I ordered the Two Meats, Two Sides Meal. Brisket, Leg+ Thigh, fried okra, Mac & cheese. I will say the sides and brisket were decent. Nothing really spectacular. But the chicken was raw. I took a bite out of it and noticed the texture was off and saw pink. Serving raw chicken can literally make someone sick. I had to go home and cook it longer but ultimately decided to throw it away in fear of not wanting to get sick.

It was extremely tender and melts in your mouth! You don't need a knife because it falls apart on its own and it was seasoned to perfection. The smoked wings were delicious as well and paired perfectly with the white sauce. The mac wasn't the greatest but I enjoyed the potato salad. The Texas toast was a great addition and was perfect for creating a little bbq sandwich. My total came out to around $32 which I felt was a bit pricey when I had paid but after getting my plate I realized how large the portions were which totally justified the cost. At most BBQ restaurants I usually finish all my food but here I had left overs so I basically got 2 meals out of the one plate. Another thing I liked is that they have a variety of sauces and they aren't stingy with them. Overall this is a great spot with friendly staff that provides wonderful service. The food is delicious and the restaurant is clean and well decorated. I will definitely be back! I was told that Boarhog's is the best BBQ in Huntsville and I can now confirm that as true!

I ordered the 3 piece, thinking I'd have a little leftover for dinner, but nah. Lol. It IS enough for a lunch portion, though. Their loaded nachos are still my favorite thing to eat here!

This! Place! Needs! More! Hype!…read more Okay, back to typing normally. Kar's Char is a relatively new Texas-style bbq place inside of Lowe Mill. It occupies the full restaurant space that used to belong to The Veggie and belonged to Happy Tummy before that. It's to the left of Piper and Leaf as you face P&L from the parking lot. I only belabor this point because some folks do have a hard time navigating Lowe Mill and no one should miss out on giving this place a try because they can't find it. I saw a few posts about Kar's Char when they first opened and have had them bookmarked since then. Recently, I was in the area after work around 2 PM and looking to kill some time before a doctor's appointment. I was feeling hungry and figured why not give them a go and enjoy a little time at the Mill while I waited. I arrived and took a few minutes to look at the menu. I am, admittedly, freakishly obnoxious and snobby about barbeque and was determined to have a positive experience, so I decided not to play with fire that day and instead decided to order one of their burgers, which I'd seen a few people rave about online. I selected their hatch green chili cheeseburger and placed an order for that. It comes with one side and I decided on macaroni and cheese. They have bottled drinks available next to the register and so I grabbed a water out of the cooler to round things out. My burger was cooked fresh just for me so I had a few minutes to hang around and take in the fun, nerdy, classic Lowe Mill ambiance. This is a truly local business and they seem very dedicated to supporting and uplifting their fellow businesses in and around the Mill. The service I received was incredibly kind and welcoming -- they really do seem like lovely folks here. My burger came out piping hot and cooked perfectly, with slightly crispy, charred edges and a juicy center. It was a delicious burger, slightly spicy but nothing scary, and I especially loved the chili lime aioli -- added a nice creaminess and moisture. To my pleasant surprise, the soft, lightly toasted bun held up to all the goodness pretty well! Next time I will probably ask for no pickles -- I found their flavor a little overwhelming -- but I am also hot and cold on my feelings about pickles so your mileage may vary! I say keep them on if you're a big fan, and take them off if not. :) The macaroni and cheese was enjoyable but not as good as the burger. Next time I come I will probably try out a different side. Overall, 4.5/5, with extra high marks for the hatch green chili burger and the charming, welcoming staff/owners. I'll be back to try the actual barbeque, and certainly to have another burger!

This place is a gem!!! And definitely a new contender for some of what I feel is best bbq in town…read more We came here after we found the place we initially intended to go no longer operating on Wednesdays. Honestly pretty glad for that inconvenience, because it brought us to Barbeque Heaven! There's not a ton of parking, so come in a smaller car if you can. The inside is just a couple of tables and booths with plastic table coverings on them and you order at the counter. You can smell the smoke as you walk up and it smells delicious! I got the impression the man working the register was perhaps the owner. He was very kind, patient, and excited to share with us about their product. He had a good sense of humor and a warm laugh. My mom and I both got the lunch special -- a bbq sandwich with one side and a drink. The price was right and the portions were generous. We both got pulled pork on our sandwiches. I got French fries and she got macaroni and cheese so we could both try each. We also got to sample all three sauces: white sauce, slightly spicy, thinner red sauce, and thicker, sweet red sauce. Honestly, everything we ate was great. The pork was super tender, just smoky enough, and not at all fatty/greasy/gristly (which is my preference by a mile). Good ratio of burnt ends, too. My /only/ very minor critique is that the buns smelled a little weird. Idk if it was the bag they were stored in or what, lol. But they didn't taste weird at all, and their texture was pleasant, so not a huge deal at all. The French fries probably weren't fresh cut, but they were freshly fried, nice and crispy on the outside but fluffy on the inside, with some flavorful seasoning coating the exterior. No ketchup needed! The macaroni and cheese was creamy and flavorful, with some crispy cheese on top. We took a combo home for my dad and got him some fried okra; I stole a couple pieces and it, too, was delicious! Flavorful breading and perfectly crispy. Lastly, I nabbed a slice of their obviously homemade red velvet cake. I was too full to eat it til after dinner, haha. The crumb was absolutely perfect - super moist and delicate. The cream cheese icing was, as expected, sweet! But it wasn't crazy sweet and the chopped pecans added a really nice new textural element. This place is well worth the drive if you don't live nearby. I know I'll be looking for excuses to head out their way in the future to get some more delicious bbq.

I have been eating Big Bob's BBQ my whole life. The quality and taste of the pork shoulder, smoked chicken, and Brunswick stew I recently purchased was very very disappointing. We ordered 2 pounds of pork shoulder. The meat had no taste. I couldn't detect hickory smoke. The pork was burnt and very fatty. The accompanying vinegar based sauce was not seasoned like previous times. Basically it was vinegar with little seasoning. 1/5 The smoked chicken, my favorite, was dry. I wondered if it was leftover from the previous day. The seasoning wasn't very good. 2/5 The Brunswick stew was not good. The recipe has changed. It tasted sweet which was off putting. I do not remember Brunswick stew tasting sweet. The quart of stew had 10 tiny pieces of potato and a few corn kernels. I saw some pork meat floating in a strange red colored broth. I remember when stewed tomatoes were in the stew. Not anymore. The soupy stew did not taste very good. 2/5 The potato with pulled pork was ok. The sauce given was a thin vinegar base that had little seasoning. The potato was the best thing I ate from Big Bob's. 3/5 I am thoroughly disappointed with the quality and taste of Big Bob's pulled pork, smoked chicken and Brunswick stew. I will return again. It will be a while though. I can't get this visit out of my head. This feels like a bad Twilight Zone episode. I really have enjoyed the foods from here in the past. Sadly, not this time. 2/5
