Contacted City bbq on Tuesday at 1:30. We needed a meal for our nurses (40) for lunch on Wednesday at 11:30 am. It was such short notice was not sure that could accommodate. Spoke with Dustin, he was so professional and was able to prepare the best meal on such short notice. No shortcuts e I taken. The service and food was outstanding. New BBQ place in South Huntsville. May seem a bit corporate but it had one of the best BBQ chickens I have had (and I judge BBQ competitions). Peach cobbler was also delicious and almost like a bread pudding. read more

I only recently began Yelping again and CB is worth a review. Unfortunately, not a good one. Price-it's mid-point. In this recession, it's pretty expensive. The sauce - I am a bbq sauce maker and connoisseur. So the Brush Fire is the bomb, it's their original sauce- it's not as spicy as it sounds but has a kick and is vinegar based. It's thick and sticks to the protein. The Swine Wine I tried it's a basic BBQ Sauce vinaigrette and it's good too. So the food I ordered. Let's start with the pulled Chicken-dry, tasteless and they forgot the pull part because I received a whole chicken breast with a few pieces ripped off to cover up the fact that I was given the last piece of crap for the day and no time or attention to detail was given. Pulled chicken NEEDS dark meat! I drove all the way there because I wanted to order fried okra and it needed to stay crispy. Well it was greasy, no breading and one piece was dry and bitter ... THE WORST OKRA EVER!!! I have photos to back me up. The dining room was filthy as well, that turned me off and I nearly walked out. Mac and cheese was ok. Very oily and charred nothing to brag about. I'd like to believe it's homemade but it taste like most of the other BBQ restaurants here. Texas toast is an option, but not free. It's thick and dry. If it's warm, taste good. Good for a sandwich. Vegetarians/Vegans- any special diets, not much for you here. The greens and green beans are filled with pork. Coleslaw has mayo and not many people like it, basically, you can get bread and a simple salad.... You know like the rest of Huntsville I'm unsure if I'd get treated any better or had a better o stall experience if I ever go back. If so I'll update. We were craving bbq and a friend told me recently he enjoyed the somewhat newly opened City Barbeque. We didn't feel like driving to south Huntsville, so we placed an order over DoorDash to try their goods. Since we ordered online, I can't comment on atmosphere or much on service. To City Barbecue's credit, our order was accurate, including all the additional sauces we ordered to try with our bbq. My husband got smoked chicken with baked beans, mac and cheese, and garlic bread. I got the two meat plate with pulled pork and pulled chicken with macaroni and cheese and corn pudding for my sides. I do love how many different side choices they have. I'd like to try their fried okra sometime, but I didn't think it would travel well for delivery. Unfortunately, most of our meal fell quite flat. First, the good: we both liked the garlic bread. I thought both barbecue sauces were good too. Next, the mid: hubs' smoked, bone-in chicken was decent. A little on the dry side, but that's par for the course with bbq chicken. He said the beans were okay too. Honestly, I don't remember much about the macaroni and cheese, so I guess that constitutes mid. The kinda bad: the corn pudding had a nice taste to start but the aftertaste was really weird and unpleasant. Hard to describe. Gritty and kind of chemical-y. I didn't finish it. The ugly: both of the meats I ordered. The pulled pork that I could eat had decent flavor but unfortunately my portion was swimming in grease and was more fat and gristle than pork. The pulled chicken was a little better but it was definitely mostly dark meat, and was on the greasy and gamey side. I ate maybe 15% of what was sent to me. It was beyond upsetting. If I ever return to try more of the side items, it'll definitely be in person to ensure freshness. Sadly quite disappointed in this experience. read more

The smell outside lures you in! They have what they have till they sell out so you know it's fresh. We got the 6 wings dry rub, a bit dry but good flavor on the rub. Loved the Alabama white sauce to go with them! We ordered a platter to share. We picked the smoked turkey, sausage, pork and brisket. Our two sides were baked beans and potato salad. Served with buttered bread. The best meat on the platter that day was the turkey, tender and flavorful. The pork was slightly gritty tasting - I've had much better. The brisket was a disgrace this date - extremely dry almost inedible. The two sides were great - baked beans were super sweet. They have a station with all of their sauces and fixins - jalapeños, pickled onion, etc. read more

Driving down South Parkway I saw a sign for City Barbecue. I turned into the parking lot. The parking was pretty full as I drove around. I did find a place to park. It was 2:30 Friday afternoon. Inside the restaurant had 4 customers. I heard the lady at the register tell the man in front of me they only had pulled pork and brisket. My brain wasn't happy hearing that. When it was my turn, I asked if they had turkey and she apologized. I asked why didn't they have all their advertised meats and she said they were slammed at lunch. The line to get it wrapped all around the building. Fortunately the chicken and ribs were ready. I ordered a Judge's Sampler for Dave with potato salad and fried okra for Dave. This plate had a half rack of ribs, chicken breast and wing, pulled pork, and brisket. The brisket was good with a nice bark and flavor. The ribs were very good but needed to cook longer in my opinion. The chicken breast and wing combo were very good but needed to cook longer in my opinion. The pulled pork was good but not as flavorful as Big Bob Gibson in Decatur. The potato salad was the best I have had in any restaurant. The fried okra was freshly fried with a light batter and excellent. 5/5 I ordered a BBQ baked potato with pulled pork, collard greens, green beans, and mac and cheese. My baked potato was the smallest baked potato I have ever gotten in a bbq restaurant. There was a sauce in the potato that had a hint of spice and was good. The collards, green beans and macaroni and cheese were like grandma cooks. I like creamier macaroni and cheese but it was good. 5/5 I found out the restaurant has been open a short time and that explains the line wrapped around the building and running out of meats. Of the bbq restaurants here in town, this one is the best in my opinion ion. They have several sauces you can put on the meats to enhance flavors. I tried everything without sauces first. I was pleasantly surprised with City BBQ! I came here on a whim with some coworkers that recommended this place. When I first stepped in the building, the smell was impeccable. My nose usually doesn't steer me wrong. I opted for the two meat and two side plate. I originally ordered the Bama pulled chicken with the ribs but they had mixed up my order with a coworker's which was fine because after tasting the chicken I really didn't care for it. But everything else was absolutely delicious here! Ribs were nicely cooked and the pulled pork was some of the best I've had. Service was good and had positive interactions with them. Lemonade was also really good. My only dislike was the Carolina bbq sauces. But their others were fine. I was skeptical about the potato salad but it was delicious and I prefer shredded coleslaw over the fine diced and this was perfect. Will be back when I'm on this side of town. read more

First, City BBQ smells so good! They should bottle the smell and sell it as a cologne. Today was their grand opening, and I was the first customer when they opened the doors. They presented the Mother Load to me, which includes brisket, pork, turkey, ribs, sausage, mac & cheese, coleslaw, corn pudding, potato salad, green beans, cornbread, and Texas toast. Everything was phenomenal!!!! The ribs were cooked perfectly, and the rub had a perfect amount of heat. The sausage had a nice crisp bite. The best was the smoked turkey; it was very moist, tender, and had the proper amount of smoke. All of the sides were great. This is the best barbecue spot I've found while I've been here in Huntsville. They probably have the best wings I've ever had. The prices are pretty reasonable for the amount of food they give you. The service is always great. And it's a pretty good atmosphere. read more

New restaurant on the South Parkway, so it's busy, but they are handling it well. Line moved quickly and tables were cleared and available when we went to sit down. Food took a little long. Ordered 2 rib bones that were not delivered and was told "we are out". They had no idea how to process a credit, but the Manager came out and assisted. As to the food, the pork and sausage were good. Fries were meh. Green beans fine but lukewarm, Texas toast cold and dry. I think the meats all looked good, but didn't see anything special to note. In general, it struck me as a decent but very average restaurant. People act as if Lawler's is mediocre, but, frankly, I think they are pretty much the same. read more

Very solid new bbq joint in HSV (badly needed!)! Stopped by with Junior for lunch on Sat. afternoon. Line was short, I ordered 3 meat with brisket, ribs, sausage with bbq beans and green beans. Junior got kids chx tenders. Food came out quick and everything was hot and fresh! Ribs had good smoke, tenderness and flavor but were not very meaty. Brisket was very solid, moist, good bark. That brisket sandwich was so big I almost needed to unhinge my jaw like a snake That's not a sandwich -- that's a commitment. And I happily accepted. Super scrumptious doesn't even cover it. The mac and cheese? Straight up "last meal on earth" material. The green beans tasted just like my grandmother's homemade recipe -- you know, the kind made with love and probably a little magic. And don't even get me started on dessert. I could eat a WHOLE chocolate cake by myself and their banana pudding deserves its own fan club. 20 out of 20 stars. I want to thank Jen & her staff & her boss for treating my group so well today at City BBQ!! it was 2 of our birthdays this week and they kept offering us dessert. we had already brought our own cake, so we refused. I ordered the Two Meats, Two Sides Meal. Brisket, Leg+ Thigh, fried okra, Mac & cheese. I will say the sides and brisket were decent. Nothing really spectacular. But the chicken was raw. I took a bite out of it and noticed the texture was off and saw pink. Serving raw chicken can literally make someone sick. I had to go home and cook it longer but ultimately decided to throw it away in fear of not wanting to get sick. read more

Man OH man! Huntsville needed this place so bad! In a city of MAYBE 5-6/10 barbecue, we now have an 8-9/10 in City Barbecue. Real SMOKED meats, great sauces, sides are all absolutely delicious and servings are generous, prices reasonable. Service is great and they keep everything clean. I haven't tried the deserts yet but my friend said the chocolate cake was a 10/10! THANK YOU for opening in Huntsville. I was very disappointed in the food as all the reviews I read were good. We had a large platter with ribs, chicken, pullled pork, and brisket. The meat was tender but had very little flavor and the sauce they smothered it in tasted like an over abundance of liquid smoke. Newest barbecue place in south Huntsville. Cowbell and Not Sloppy Joe sandwiches are a hit. Really enjoyed the fresh fried Okra with just a light breading, but it came out a little underdone. Definitely worth another visit. read more
