So admittedly I haven't had a lot of brisket in my life... I tasted City bbq at the Taste of Snellville a couple of months ago and thought it was pretty good. Well I had a really bad taste for brisket this past weekend and decided to stop past. I ordered a lb of brisket and the 3 side sampler (fries, Mac n cheese and potato salad. Brisket- omgosh amazing. Really flavorful and super tender. It was the best I'd had. 5 Potato salad- I was hesitant to get it cause well you know everyone doesn't make good potato salad. But it was really good. Not super mustardy. But it was a great accompaniment to the brisket. 4 Fries- now these were so good. I was hungry when i started munching but they did not make it out of the car. Hand cut, cooked perfectly 5 Mac n cheese - so my least favorite thing. The noodles were a little too soft for me. Not terrible but I probably wouldn't get again 3 I am plotting my return. We ordered two Texas Reuben sandwiches a fry, and two drinks. Wanted to try the pastrami. The pastrami was very good, with a nice amount of smoke, not as briny as some make it. It really isn't a traditional Reuben, but it is a very good sandwich and one we will order again. Keep this on the menu, City! The fries were hot and fresh and good as always. Let me start my review by saying that I've never been impressed with chain Bbq spots because the flavor of the meat is never good. You have to drown it in sauce to taste like anything. But to my surprise that was not the case at City Barbecue! As first timers we tried a sampler platter. Chicken pulled pork ribs and brisket...all pretty good. The sides were also very tasty! The green beans actually had flavor, macaroni and cheese was super cheesy! But the best was yet to come.......the star of the show for me was the "PEACH COBBLER"!!!!! I have come to City Barbecue several times now and I haven't been disappointed yet. The service is great and the food is good for a chain bbq place. Most bbq places have decent smoked meats but their sides lack flavor and seasoning. City barbecue has pretty good sides and the meats are great. I always order the brisket beans and Cole slaw with my meats. The brisket is always good and the smoked chicken is good as well. Yesterday's service was awesome. We waited outside for curbside pick up. I ordered off my app. The person that brought out our food Shaq was so nice. She told us the corn bread would take some time because they had to bake some more and asked if we wanted something else. We got the corn bread pudding and she gave us a larger size for the trouble of not having g the corn bread. Very friendly and great customer service. We also were asked by another worker that delivered a bag to the car next to us. He stopped at our window and asked if we been waiting long and if we were taken cared of. We told him Shaq was taking care of us. Whoever trained these 2 employees did a very good job. Too bad other places like McDonald's can't train their employees to actually care about the customers. I hear people complaining about the food from City bbq. I disagree with them. The food is good and the service was exceptional My go to place since I can't go anywhere else that is near for good bbq. Everything was great I was with a friend and we tried all meats every meat was outstanding the manager a young lady name April I believe checked on us several times . The banana pudding was best I've ever had including home made . Will visit this location on Johns Creek many more times we got there around one they were pretty busy but had no problem finding a clean table the dinning area was clean as well as bathroom . So we tried to give this place another chance. We shouldn't have. I did a mobile order for a curb side pick up I waited past the ready time but no one came out. 20 min later went in and asked for my order. The manager asked my name and I said Chris. He said here's your order. There was about 8 bags on the counter at the pick up area and I told him I was waiting 20 min and he told it's been there the whole time. Ok well why didn't anyone come out to give ne my order? He just shrugged So I picked up the bag and I looked at the order and it wasn't even my order. It was for another Chris. I told him and he said no that's your order. I said this is not my order. He then asked me what I ordered and gave me another bag. First time eating here because there isn't one closer to where I live (Newnan) and I was pleasantly surprised how good this was. I am a bbq snob so it takes a lot to woo me when it comes to smoked meats. Looking at the menu and figuring out what I was going to have wasn't difficult. Everything is easy to understand and I knew within seconds what I was going to have (Carolina Goldmine). The young lady taking my order was very friendly as well making the visit one I look forward to repeating the next time I'm in Snellville. My expectations were they would have better BBQ than your typical chain, but that was not the case. For what they charge, I expected better. First the good: The pulled pork BBQ, sauces, baked beans and potato salad were good. Their fried okra was excellent! Now the reason they got 3 stars: The brisket you pay extra for was dry and not as tender as it should be. The pork ribs were also a little dry and probably sat out too long. The Cole Slaw was more vinegary than I would like, but seemed to be fresh. Overall - stick to the basics here - pulled pork and the like. Avoid the brisket. read more

Lunch on 4/17. Pastrami sandwich was excellent and my wife ordered a salad. The food quality is always excellent. I use Swine Wine on everything, if you don't....what are you doing? I am sad to report that this place is just a fast food restaurant. Went to pick up my order that wasn't ready, which was cool cause I thought great it would be a fresh order. I noticed that was not the case when I saw some one take out the slab of ribs that I ordered from a warmer and throw them onto a flaming grill to be cooked even longer which of course dried them out considerably. Upon returning home and finding out that the ribs tasted like paper. So dry without any flavor at all. Called to complain and was given a gift card which didn't work when trying to use it at another location..should have just gotten a refund. This place was a let down. The cashier Mike was nice, food came fairly quick but the food was all lukewarm, even the fries. Speaking of fries, they had the wrong side on 1/2 of my combos. I went to the counter to show the front end my receipt, no apology... they just took the fries off the plate, threw them in the trash, and gave me the side I ordered. I didn't want the fries but it's pretty sad they messed up my order and couldn't say just keep the fries or at least apologize. I don't know if I'll be back to city bbq. read more

I wanted to love it. I wanted it to be better than Shane's ....but it wasn't. Shane's is better. Tried it for the first time and ordered the half chicken and a side of okra. The okra was a bit over seasoned and I had too many okra that were hard to chew. You know when the okra is like straw underneath the crust and is just inedible? Yeah. Too many of those. However, I will say the crust of the okra was light which I liked. The chicken, although a hefty size lacked flavor. Felt like they just put the bird on the grill with no seasoning and threw some bbq sauce on top. I expected more given the grill marks. I didn't care for the taste of their bbq sauces either. The Texas toast was blah too. So all in all just average. It tastes like a chain. Safe to say I probably won't go back unless someone else wants to go. I get that you have a drive-thru for customer convenience, I get that your restaurant takes time to craft enjoyable non-fast food meals that take time, what I don't get is impatient drive thru-servers that tell you to pull forward to the front of the building and then forget about your order until the place is nearly closed and you're out of what I ordered. I sat in my car for over 15 minutes until I called the restaurant to remind you I was waiting for my food, the bitchy drive thru attendant answered the phone laughing like there was a party going on, told me they'd bring my order out but couldn't find my car parked by the front door. Another 8 minutes waiting. I walked in and was informed you were out of my sude but you substituted three other sides for the one I ordered that I can't eat. Why not just walk out in front to the only car in the parking lot and ask me my preference. I ordered a sandwich, the meat was tasty, but tough. I probably won't be back. Felt like some Q tonite so I ordered up some City BBQ. Ordinarily, a pretty safe place to get a good sandwich. My wife got a pulled pork sandwich which was great! I got a Nashville hot chicken sandwich. That was where the problems started. The chicken was refrigerator cold. Which is strange because the rest of the order was piping hot! You could tell that the chicken was at one time breaded. But all the breading was gone and there was no sauce on it at all! Threw half of it out. Also got some fried pickles and jalapenos which were hot, but slimy, not crispy like I like them. I guess the lesson learned is stay with the smoked meat. The fried stuff was horrible! read more

I smelled the smoker, but it didn't transfer to the meat. Neither of us could taste salt, pepper, secret seasoning, or nothing. I did notice some customers having concerns, however manager Juan Carlos was not only managing staff, he was giving good customer service and solving problems.
