I was really relictant to go here at first but was finally convinced by my friend to finally go and try it out. I went honestly to try this new fried chicken sandwich but they no longer have it. That was a total bummer considering that sandwich was an Instagram sensation. Anyhow, after getting over that, I was offered to sample the pulled chicken and fell in love with that. My Daral and Tina both got more cowbell - I should have gone with that - it looks amazing. I got 2 meats - pulled chicken and sausage and loved them both. Staff friendly by What happened?!?!?! Something is different! In the past, I had the luxury of being able to order through a third party app. Recently, since I was in the neighborhood I decided to stop in for a take out order. It's all about the details for me here. Here's some things I appreciated... 1. A great menu with lots of options. 2. They sell individual ribs! We hadn't been there before and the outpouring of exceptional service, was exceptional. Caroline was the incredibly outgoing person who took our order but also allowed us time to figure out the menu. She gave us her personal recommendation, which once we saw it on the menu, we went for it ourselves - the cowbell. OMG it was good, and everything else we had to eat. From the looks of the building it's hard to digest that it's actually more like an order at the counter like a fast food restaurant except the setting is just top class here. First and foremost as I was walking in I was amazed to see the modern smoke house on the side of the building with shiny chimney. The brisket is to die for, prepared exact to my preference, lots of bark, no fatty meat and thick cut slices....yummmmmm it was so juicy and tender. We used to order pick up and now we won't. Seems like they don't care about the food going out the door anymore. The amount of fat and pork skin in our meal was enough to make me gage. These pictures show the amount of fat pulled off a 1lb. brisket order next to the meat from it. And in the pan a huge piece of fat and skin from the pork that took up half the container! We had a bad experience here a few years ago and because it was so bad, the manager agreed to replace our entire order. Then Covid shut things down and we never got the opportunity to. Fast forward to 2024 and I decided to give it another try. It was only me this time so I can only speak for the items I had. I did curbside pickup after a nearby appointment. This place is great! I'm so happy we finally have a good BBQ option in the Johns Creek area. The staff is super kind and welcoming, taking their time to explain the menu options as well as answering any questions you have. I've tried the platter option with a friend and ordered a couple of times through Door Dash. The brisket is amazing and has a good smoke to it, roasted chicken was juicy and tender, and the ribs were decent. My only gripe was the pulled pork was a bit on the dry side. Speaking of sides, the sides here are great. My favorite was the corn pudding. I love the variety of barbecue sauces you can choose from and it's fun to mix and match different flavors together. Loved this place. Everyone was very friendly! From the outside I though it might be trendy on the inside but it looks like a BBQ place inside. Lots of wood, pictures of animals, seating inside and out and TVs with sports. You order at the counter and they call your name when your food is ready but there were plenty of workers circulating if you need anything. There's a large selection of BBQ sauces at the bar. During lunch they have a "Lite Lunch" choice with a smaller (not small! Just smaller than dinner option) plus 2 sides. There are handheld menus to look at when you walk in but not everything is listed on there like seasonal and limited time items. If you pick up the coloring sheet for the kids there's a coupon for a free kids meal at your next visit. This place seems great to pick up food for a party or game since you can buy things by the pound or gallon. They also have online ordering and pickup parking (I don't think they come out but parking for quick pickup on the side). We order: Burnt ends sandwich Lolo's Pork Sandwich Kid's Chicken tenders Sides: Green beans Mac n Cheese Baked beans Collards Brunswick Stew Burnt Ends Sandwich - didn't realize this was a sandwich but the bread was breaded and toasted, reminded me of a good lobster roll bread! The taste was what I was hoping for which slight sweetness from caramelized sauce and fat, richness of the fat, and flavor of the meat. Lolo's Pork Sandwich- this is their pulled pork sandwich marinated in Swine Wine (Earthy tones and notes of pepper transport you to the famous Swine Wine Vineyards- where good wine turns to vinegar) and topped with coleslaw. I didn't taste too much vinegar so I was happy about that. It wasn't too wet or dry like some pulled pork sandwiches I've had. Definitely one of the better pulled pork sandwiches I've had. Green beans - cooked with a decent amount of bacon (which I appreciate), onions, and vinegar (but not to strong). Loved them, nice smokiness. Baked Beans - decent chunks of meat, slightly smaller beans, slight sweetness but not too much. I really like them! Brunswick Stew - this was less memorable for me but my mother loved it. I like mine a little thicker and it felt like it was missing something. Kid's Chicken Tenders (comes with a side & drink) - NOT the overly breaded chicken you get at most places. Very good marinaded taste, slightly breaded so I wasn't concerned my toddler wasn't eating enough chicken. Collards, Mac n cheese... other sides we ordered that I didn't try. This restaurant just opened recently, and the crowds have been plentiful. I love seeing new places crop up in my area, and was excited to give it a try. If I could give half stars, it would be a 2.5 in my book. I was honestly disappointed and underwhelmed in the meal. My expectations were high, I guess, and I was let down. Perfect for Fall, horrible for summer as far as I'm concerned with bugs and humidity. I walked into a very spacious area with a large counter for ordering and carryout, along with plenty of seating and a couple large televisions. I wasn't sure what to order, but they said the beef brisket is their best seller, so I went with that and their pulled chicken. You can get it "naked" (without a bun) or with a bun. I asked if they homemade their buns, and she said no, they were delivered. Other smoked meats included pulled pork, turkey breast, and sausage. You can also get ribs. They had a special of tacos, but unfortunately it was only brisket, which I don't eat. There are also plenty of sides to combine to your main order. Fries, vinegar slaw, mac and cheese, cornbread, collards, baked beans, potato salad, hush puppies to name a few. You can go healthier, and get a salad. Or go really unhealthy, and get dessert. I couldn't pass up banana pudding. They serve the usuals of soda, tea, lemonade, and also beers to quench your thirst. Didn't see a wine list. Bummer. So I am handed a receipt and wait for my name to be called. While waiting, I couldn't help but help myself to some sauces. They have an array on display and you just pick what you like, and place it in a sauce container. I'm a condiment queen, so I was really salivating over all the choices here like original BBQ, peach habernero, sweet city, brushfire, and bourbon. They also had some kind of mustard sauce, but I didn't care for that one at all. The wait wasn't bad, and I grabbed my to-go, and headed out. When my boyfriend came over, we busted out the food. I first tried the mac and cheese, and was very disappointed. It was standard, nothing special. I actually prefer Kraft to this. I did like the spiralized noodles which hold the cheese better, but still nothing worthy. The cornbread was on the dry side with very little flavor. Again, a disappointment. I had two bites and was done, same with the mac and cheese. Now for the sandwich. The bun was seriously the most generic potato bun. It was soft, but even a little on the soggy side, which I don't like. The meat was dry. There is no way I could have eaten this without the accompanying sauces. I tried a couple different ones, and some were pretty good, but even so, the sandwich didn't do it for me. I had to load the sauce too, because the meat was so dry. It was definitely not the meal I was expecting. Lastly, the dessert. Now this was the best part of the meal. It was very creamy and dense, with good banana flavors and some whipped topping. Great BBQ restaurant! We arrived at 5:45 and the line was out the door. We had brisket, ribs, green beans, hush puppies, baked beans, and fries. The brisket was BAD. It was extremely extremely fatty. We were unable to eat at least half of it because it was so fatty. Also, why is the brisket served in a tiny basket meant for fries? How am I suppose to cut brisket in a paper basket? The ribs were delicious! Lots of meat and good flavor. The green beans, hush puppies, and baked beans were all good but nothing to rave about. The fries were yummy! I enjoyed the variety of BBQ sauces. The brush fire sauce was my favorite - a little spicy! All in all, it was a good dining experience. I took off one star because of how bad the brisket was. City BBQ is a welcome addition to the Johns Creek area, considering there aren't really any barbecue spots around. This is a chain based out of Ohio, and this is their first Atlanta OTP location (they have one ITP in Decatur). It's a fast casual place where you order at the counter. Despite having generic chain décor, don't confuse this place with Shane's BBQ. I've tried a bunch of various items and really like the place overall. My favorite meats are the pulled pork and pulled chicken. Both are flavorful, especially the pork. I didn't care for the ribs much, but I'm not a big ribs person. And definitely stay away from the turkey, which was very dry and bland. The various sauces are tasty, and I really liked the spicy ones. For sides, I thought the mac and cheese was just average. The corn pudding was excellent though- I could eat two portions of that stuff. I also had the banana pudding, which was very good. I ordered the Lolo's pulled pork sandwich online and wow they give a generous amount of meat! I enjoyed how soft and juicy the meat is and how it's not too salty like how many places serve. Some may consider the meat a bit bland by itself but that's why it goes inside a sandwich which for me is perfect. I actually prefer having to use my bbq sauce for its flavor without it being too salty and sweet all at once. Since there was so much meat, a single sandwich actually filled me well! I was also able to get this sandwich for $5 off with a coupon so this was definitely a steal. On my second visit though I ordered a half slab of ribs and it wasn't anything special. The meat was thinner than what I'm used to and tasted like salt and smoke. Not as juicy and meaty as it's sandwich counterpart. Also their Mac n cheese tastes like cooked noodles and that's it. The cheese has absolutely no flavor. I'd avoid their sides especially since they cost extra. Their sandwiches are good but their rib rack is average. That's why I knocked a star off. The brisket in the baked beans was really nice. I felt like the baked beans tasted a lot like bbq sauce and not much else so I didn't love them. Mac & Cheese was a little plain also. Now the meats on the other hard were really delicious. I especially love the ribs! Just so flavorful and cooked to perfection. The chicken was really good also. Really cool joint! We were starving, and this place filled us up real good. It's located on a nice, busy corner of Johns Creek. We came relatively early (around 11:50 AM), and the wait wasn't too bad. Later on while we were eating the line was really piling up. We had a full slab of ribs (and had it cut by the bone for easy sharing). The flavoring was on point! Usually I worry about the BBQ sauce being too salty, but this was divine. The meat pulled right off the bone, and nothing was too chewy. Love it when meat is cooked perfectly like that. It also came with some bread, which was very soft (and I mean who doesn't love complimentary carbs). There was also a huge variety of sauces for you to pick from to dip your meat in. I really liked the setup of this place. You stand in line to place your order, then grab your grub (not too long of a wait) and then seat yourself. You can refill your own drinks at the fountain and grab everything you need at the station. After you're done just put away your tray, and you're good to go.
