Another reviewer who frequents all of the new Johns Creek establishments said to order the meats here and make the sides at home, as they have no flavor. Maybe the two sides you had were lacking flavor, but I would never order vinegar slaw or mac and cheese( I prefer my Mac and cheese anyway and most places make a runny cheese sauce as opposed to a casserole style). This was the single worst barbecue experience I've ever had. My brother and I came here and each got a pick 2 meats sampler (17.99 a piece with no sides) As the very expensive food arrived, to call it disappointing would be an understatement. The Turkey tasted more dry than leftover thanksgiving food, the brisket was so overly salted it was almost inedible (in addition to being dry - a common theme), and my brother's pork lacked any discernible flavor or seasoning (in addition to being dry). Additionally, both of our pieces of Texas toast were charred black. I wasn't sure that was possible. I recently ate at the Decatur location (which I was told is the same owner) and gave it 4 stars - that's not bad, I'm not quick with my stars. This location is just a few weeks old, looks almost exactly like the Decatur location with identical menu and earned 5 stars. The place was packed on a Sunday after Church - with lines out the door for the hour we were there. But they were ready for it - the restaurant was obviously over staffed with bright faced young people staffing the door handing out menus, making sure you knew about their app and that you could get $5 off by downloading (they even helped several older members of my family download!) and generally being friendly. Service was quick once we ordered and the food was excellent. I broke with my tradition and had Brisket (I almost always get pulled pork the first time I visit a new BBQ place). It had great flavor and was tender! Not quite as juicy as Moody's but a clear #2 for Brisket in the Atlanta area. Collards were very good - with meat and stems cut out. Their Corn pudding is to die for. Mac-n-Cheese is just MnC - nothing special. Did not try the fries (a negative on my Decatur location review). My only complaint, as is true of their Decatur location, they only have Pepsi products. Come on folks - you're in the home of Coca Cola! read more

This is one of the BEST barbecue places I've been to in years! This was my wife's and my first visit. We both had a Steakhouse salad. I included pulled pork, and she included smoked turkey. Both types of meat were well seasoned and slow smoked. The meat was moist and very flavorful. We also had collards and sweet potato casserole. The collards included pork and had a slight vinegary flavor. The casserole included candied pecans. We also tried the peach cobbler. Everything was delicious and the service was top notch. I guess there is no option for zero stars. Wow, just ordered out for City Barbecue (7pm Wednesday night). When I picked up my food there was only a total of 3 people in this restaurant. Now I know why. I just witnessed the worst barbecue I have had in several decades. I had pulled pork and ribs and collard greens. The ribs were the worst I have ever had in my entire life. Just terrible, it was as if they had been sitting around for days or something. The bone of the ribs were as soft as a sponge and the meat was, you guessed it......horrible. The pulled pork passed as just edible. The collard greens hardly had any greens in it....it was a small cup of stale pork chunks swimming in collard juice with literally no greens in it. I'll end on a positive note.....it's just a good thing the portion size was really small (I didn't feel pressured to eat more of that garbage). Holy Mackeral, if this place isn't out of business soon I'll be surprised. How do they even serve that stuff? read more

So I've been meaning to update this review. City BBQ has kicked it up a notch and they just got on the invite list for the family reunion with this new jacked macaroni and cheese. I think they stole my grandmother's recipe. City BBQ don't remove the jacked macaroni from the menu because if I can be honest your regular macaroni is miss. Thank you for the 5 extra pounds I've gained because my husband just has to have the macaroni um seems every weekend! Ok, maybe not every weekend but it sure seems like it he goes so often. I still don't like their bbq sauces though which isn't a big deal for me because I'm not a huge sauce fan. Caroline is so incredibly sweet! They apparently do pre-orders on Thanksgiving and I wanted jacked mac n cheese (discussed in original review) so I didn't have to prepare it. Let's just say she went above and beyond to take care of me at a super busy time for them. It was ready as soon as I arrived. The lines are always long here but they move through the orders really quickly. Everyone at this store is amazing. Next year I'll definitely keep the pre-order in mind for the Thanksgiving rush. Goodness gracious!!! That was some of the best bbq we've had in Georgia! We had brisket, pulled pork, pulled chicken & turkey. And our daughter had the brisket tacos. Sides we had collards, baked beans, Mac n cheese, and corn pudding. The only thing that was just ehh was the Mac n cheese. It was good just not as great as the other sides. Every thing was delicious. The brisket was as good as Texas bbq. Didn't even need sauce (though their sauces are good too) We got dessert too. Peach cobbler (it was warm and tasted like thanksgiving) triple chocolate cake (omg moist and yum) and banana pudding (there's is different than any I've had. It had like a caramel sauce on the cookie portion. Divine) Now onto the staff. Every one was sweet and helpful. The manager that was expediting the foods was so on top of it. Yum yum yum yum yum!!! You wouldn't think it'd be hard to find really great barbeque in Georgia, but it's been a struggle for me! I've found some good spots here and there, and City Barbecue is one of them. Going in, I thought it would be a sit-down restaurant with servers coming to the table, but it's an order-at-the-counter kind of place. We walked in around 4:30 or 5, there was no line to order. We decided on the Judge's Sampler so we could get a little bit of everything at a great price. The food didn't take long at all to come out. I tried the brisket first, and oh my god, it was honestly the best brisket I've ever had. Everything was delicious, from the chicken to the pulled pork to the sides, we enjoyed it all. They even gave us a giant souvenir cup without charge! I'm giving four stars only because while we were eating, a staff member was consolidating sauces at the sauce bar and one of the sauce bottles exploded all over the counter while she was doing it. She wiped the top of counter off but left bbq sauce all over the floor and the edge of the counter. Without realizing she hadn't completely cleaned it up (this was over 10 minutes after I saw her make the mess, so she wasn't coming back to finish cleaning the area), I leaned against the counter when reaching for a sauce to take to-go and sauce got all over my light colored shirt. Things happen, so it wasn't the end of the world, plus the stain came out, but it was inconvenient considering I had an errand to run after we ate. City Barbeque is as good as you're going to get in suburban Johns Creek, GA. When it comes to barbeque, I have to be brutally honest so that I don't set any wrong expectations for other carnivorous meat lovers that are venturing out this way to get a taste of what City Barbeque is all about. The quality of food is decent, but it's not amazing. This isn't somewhere you're going to be driving 30min or greater to get to with all your family and friends. If you're in the neighborhood and are fiending for some BBQ, this will be good enough for the time being. Knowing how full we normally get after a heavy meal of BBQ, we aimed to have an early dinner at 5:30pm on a Tuesday. It was our first time here, but the place was already fairly busy. It may have been because of the 40% off ribs deal they have, or it may just be because people really love this place. I would hope it's the latter for the sake of the business :) The restaurant provides plenty of space for large and smaller parties. There's power towels located on every table that will become very useful during your meal. Near the drink fountain you'll also find utensils, plates, condiments, a BBQ sauce station with all sorts of different types, and a place for some fixns: pickles, red onions, jalapeno peppers, and hot sauces. Pretty much everything you need to make your meal complete. There's also to go containers and lids in this area as well -- a very resourceful area. My girlfriend and I ordered the Judge's Sampler ( A 1/4 chicken and 1/2 slab of ribs, pulled pork, beef brisket, 2 sides, 2 cornbreads, and Texas toast) It says it's enough for 2, but I'm sure this would be enough food for a small family. We ordered the Sweet Vinegar Slaw and Collards as our 2 sides and an extra bowl of the Jacked Mac to share. Going in order of items listed above... * The chicken was so tender and delicious. We went with the wing piece and I would easily order this over and over again. * The slab of ribs was good, but didnt exactly fall off the bones. Was a bit tough to separate each rib. But the flavor and taste was all there. * I've never been a big fan of pulled pork, and the pulled pork here didn't change my mind. * The beef brisket was good, but not as marbled or fatty as I would've enjoyed. * The sweet vinegar slaw was the winner for me. The collards were a bit bland and lacking. * The Jacked Mac was good, but being prepared ahead of time the cheese wasn't as ooey or gooey as I imagined something loaded with 3 different types of cheeses would be. * I usually love corn bread, but the corn bread here wasn't something I was eagerly reaching for and wanting more of. The Texas toast however was good, but I was too full from all the meats to want anymore of it. To recap, the food at City Barbeque is good but not amazing. I'll definitely stop by again if I'm not feeling ambitious enough to drive into the city or somewhere ITP to get my fix. read more

Tonight we ordered dinner for 4 for curbside pick up. Not good at all. First, they left an item off the order. And they were out of another item we wanted. We ordered the Nashville Chicken Sandwich special which looked amazing on the app. However, it was anything but. The chicken tenders were so over fried and dry. It was literally difficult to bite through the chicken the breading was so hard. Should have know by the color of the chicken was a an extreme dark brown. Borderline, black. The chicken was bone dry. Same for an order of chicken tenders we ordered to share. And they weren't even tenders, more chicken bites. Like boneless chicken wings. Burnt to a dried crisp. Two side orders of fries were barely fried. A heaping pile of potato starch that eat more like boiled potato strips than French fries. I'm fairness, when we called to advise the restaurant, they did refunded the chicken sandwich and the tenders, but our dinner was ruined and this fell short. read more

If you have any allergies go to the front and ask to see their allergen listing. I was impressed by the options and ease of picking gluten and dairy free items. The potato salad and brisket were very tasty. Most importantly the sauces! Options are endless. They had to have at least nine to choose from. Any poor ratings due to there being a line or wait are crazy. This isn't McDonald's! This is slow cooked meat and homemade cuisine. If my food arrived instantaneously I would have been worried. If your a fan of burnt ends you know two things 1 they are hard to find and 2 they are amazing when you do find them. They are a bit on the pricey side but still very good. Ribs were done well and the rub they use was also quite good. Pulled pork was good and still quite juicy which I give them credit most barbecue places either dry it out or just cover it with sauce before you get it. They have a wide range of bbq sauces about 10 I believe, tried the hotter ones and the swine wine and were all good. All in all for a quicker than usual service BBQ place these guys hit all the right spots for me. read more

If you're placing a large order don't assume anything that would make sense with a large order! I had an order for 35 people and the order was 15 minutes late, which was after our meeting started, no buns were delivered with the meat, no plates, no napkins, no silverware, no serving spoons! Call me crazy but, if you're ordering 4 lbs. of pulled pork, 3 lbs. of pulled chicken, and 4lbs. of brisket, you'd probably be making a sandwich with it! The driver went to the store and got buns with his own money! I paid for everything in advance and asked that I wait to add the tip at time of delivery. That wasn't set up either. When I called City BBQ, I was told that since they ran my credit card for everything, they couldn't give a tip to the delivery man with door dash and was told to contact Door Dash. I called Door Dash, and they couldn't give this driver a tip either. I hate that this poor driver didn't get a tip. This was the WORST experience I have ever had with a large group order. read more

The Brisket is my favorite and as a cheese lover I enjoy their Mac and Cheese, yummm!
