I walked here from the Truckstop on the other side of the freeway. I was hoping for the best. When I got close I saw the Qdoba nearby and decided to go there instead. I knew what I would get from Qdoba and Barbeque places are so hit and miss. This Barbeque place was on the way to Qdoba, so I walked by. The smell was terrific, so I looked inside and it was doing great business. I changed my mind again, and went in. I had a half slab of ribs. They were perfect. The service was fast, even with the rush. I had a salad and baked beans as well. Very good. Their iced tea was freshly brewed. I wish all Barbeque places were this good. A definite hit. read more

Probably my favorite BBQ place in Indy. Not much competition though. Brisket, baked beans, corn pudding and good ice tea. One of the worst meals I've had! Ordered the city sampler (beef brisket, pork, turkey, pulled chicken), upgraded sides to pints (baked beans, greens) and upgraded toast to cornbread. The brisket was dry and lacked seasoning, turkey was over-smoked but at least not dried out, pork & chicken was edible. The baked beans were off, simply didn't taste like beans of any sort I've ever eaten. Then there were the greens - I had one bite & couldn't take another, they were SO SALTY! I've rinsed my mouth out with salt water that wasn't as salty tasting as these greens which I tossed in the trash because they were inedible. Finally, the cornbread ... normally cornbread has at least a mild corn taste, this did not, plus it was very dry. Overall, the meal was inedible and a waste of money. Take your chances but I won't be back, too many issues to just be a bad day. read more

I'm a sucker for City BBQ. Nearly always have the brisket and pulled pork pick two. Food is hot. Curbside is quick. Everything is great. I recommend the white Bama sauce no matter the meat - great fit with everything. There's also a Dalton Gang sauce that I like too - tomato base - but most of the others just get in the way for my taste. My kids love the cornbread and the cobblers are really tasty too. App orders are simple. Rewards too. Often feels like a nice local BBQ place - sometimes prefer the food even! Food is good, consistent. I'm a regular and recommend City BBQ. read more

This is my favorite city barbeque location. The staff is great, I come here way too often because of the app. The food is delicious, nothing is ever cold during takeout. My favorite is the brisket on Texas toast with a side of fries! Second favorite is rib bone Tuesday. My partner loves their side of beans and sausage. During the summer you've got to try the sweet tea and lemonade mix!! As much as I eat here I don't have many pictures because it always goes straight in my mouth. read more

I went in tonight right before they closed around 8:30 pm and they really made my night. They gave me a free cake and me and my son shared it and he was so happy. Then when I looked in the bag there was 2 corn breads not just one and let's just say I'm a single mom of 2 and i didn't have the money to spend but wanted to get this place because my dad loves it! He passed away last year October and yesterday was hard for me. This really made my night thank you ! read more

Good food, but this location habitually forgets various items when ordering carry out. The last 2-3 times we've ordered carry out they have forgotten a side item or a kids entree. We did speak to a manager and they provided a gift card, but disappointing service none the less. If you plan on eating city BBQ I'd recommend dinning in to avoid carry-out issues. read more

Ahhh..I was pleasantly surprised by this place. I found this spot while traveling for work in the area. I opted for the brisket plate with baked beans. It was absolutely delicious. I couldn't believe it took us 6 months to try this place. First, I was surprised to determine I could feed family of five for under $40. It was curbside pickup so so I didn't get to check the dine-in experience, but it won't matter. The food was beyond expectations. Best location for BBQ. I went when they first opened, and it was amazing, went back a few months later and it is still as good as opening day. I love that everything is made in house, and the food is so fresh and always hot. I love this location, it is so open and easy to acomodate a larger group. Their greens are amazing, and i never eat them. They are famous for the greens so i decided to give them a try. I cannot wait to get more. The mac and cheese is delicious as well and the pulled pork is to die for. Such friendly staff and self serve BBQ station is what dreams are made of! Keep up the good work! read more

I had the ribs with baked beans and creamy coleslaw. The ribs were meaty. The sauce on the side was great also. Both sides were great. The toasted bread was excellent also. Just okay...their sides are good. Pulled chicken is good (with extra sauce) but everything else is very dry or tough. Their ribs are St Louis style so they are really tough to eat and I actually couldn't get any meat off of a few bones and gave up and ate sides instead. I was disappointed in that for the price that you pay--$13 for half of a rack of ribs you can't really eat. They seem to run out of pulled chicken quickly and I thought their chicken breast would be a good backup and I could shred it myself but it was dry as a bone! And if you put too much sauce on it, it gets cold and it's not very tasty. And it's $9 for one little chicken breast. I can grill 4 chicken breasts at home from the grocery at that price! You have to wait for your own food at the counter, get all your own plates and silverware and bus your tables too. And for 2 people, two sides and two meats, it was over $30. And hungry a couple of hours later. Never really been satisfied at this chain. The people who work there are very nice and friendly though, so that's a positive. read more

Not going to lie- I was pretty disappointed in my first City BBQ experience. We got the judges sampler. We knew something was off when we had the bag in the car and it didn't smell of delicious bbq food. While there was a decent amount of food- it was all fairly salty. What a waste of $40. Ordered pulled chicken, was loaded with onions, disgusting. Pulled pork had a bunch of red peppers in it too. Greens tasted like someone poured a container of salt in them. Peach cobbler was nothing but soggy crust, not one peach slice in the whole thing. read more

Brisket Plate is what I ordered and was told everything (sides) was extra. I still ordered the brisket plate and baked beans and corn bread. As a fan of city bbq, I feel a bit of remorse writing this review. This new location offers subpar bbq. The meat taste processed and rewarmed and the rub has an off flavor that is chemical. I did query if the ribs were made on premise and after a few moments the young lady said yes as she was unaware what bbq was?? "You mean meat?" I do not know when my ribs were smoked but it was definitely not these week. Buyer beware something is not right at this location. read more

I've been here twice since they opened a few weeks ago. Both times were disappointing. Biting into a brisket sandwich that is about 70% fat - 30% meat is not what I'd call enjoyable. Someone needs training on how to properly trim the fat. I was looking forward to this place opening, now I likely won't return. If they decide to sell their fat sandwiches for $2 I might go back. Very fatty meats. We tried the pork and chicken. There was too much fat with both. We did enjoy the baked beans...though very rich and fatty (hmmm, a trend here). Our first experience was pretty average, and I'm hoping that this location continues to improve. We ordered two chicken tender kids meals, one pulled pork platter naked, one pulled pork sandwich. Some good points: The service was very fast and friendly for a busy Saturday evening. Nice outdoor seating, restaurant was clean, and the sauces were good as well. The not so good points. All food served was not hot at all. The mac and cheese was not hot, as well as the fries? I think something needs changed on the preparation process? I can understand the desire for speed, but on BBQ I'd rather sacrifice a little speed for temperature. My platter was pretty fatty, I'd guess 25% was not edible. And the portions were very small. Finally, don't like the ala carte menu. No sides included makes for a very expensive meal. $30 for a family of four with no sodas I would have expected a much quality dinner. Hopefully this is just a learning curve but will be reluctant to try again for a while. read more

Great food, consistent with other CB experiences elsewhere. NOTE TO ALL: the BBQ sauce bottles should remain at the station, not YOUR TABLE. This isn't Chipotle, folks. I noticed numerous people grab bottles of BBQ sauce and take them to their tables to keep. That's not how it works....take as much sauce as you want in a little cup and leave it there for others to enjoy. Other than that, I hope this location keeps up with the quality and quantity of food. Noodles were extremely undercooked. The sauce that I found good was the sweet one the original tasted very bad but that is why they have multiple types. Very clean. Portions could be worked on the regular and small had the same amount of meat, but that being said the pulled pork was very good. read more
