A must do for beer lovers! The guide was full of knowledge and loved their city. This was the highlight of our trip.

Tour canceled twice! Didn't get to go. I booked the Sip of DC Tour two months in advance of our trip to DC. We booked for a Sunday evening. Two days prior to the tour, I received a call from the company. They did not have enough people to proceed with our tour and could I move to another day? I asked about moving to Monday. No, there were not enough people for Monday, either. I was asked to move it to Wednesday night. We had plans to get up early Thursday morning to go to Baltimore, so I wasn't wild about Wednesday night, but we still really wanted to do the tour, so we decided to move our plans around . I should add that when we were moved to Wednesday night, this was for a longer and more expensive tour. We were not charged for the upgrade, which was nice, and is why they received one star. So, on Wednesday (the day of the tour) at 12 noon, I receive a call from DC Brew Tours. Our tour was canceled due to a medical emergency. I said I was sorry for whoever had experienced the emergency but they didn't have a back up plan if somebody was sick or had to call in? I was informed that they attempted to secure another guide but were unable to. We were asked about rescheduling again. I brought up Thursday. No, that was not an option as they were not able to secure another guide by then. Could I do Friday? I explained we had an early morning flight on Saturday, so we decided that was not a good idea and we were offered a refund at this point. The gentleman I spoke to on the phone was very polite but not especially apologetic about the situation. I get that unexpected things happen in business, but why not say, "Hey, I am really sorry you were canceled twice. We get that you are here from out of town and want to make sure you do not miss the tour. Is there some way we can make this happen?" I understand they have a schedule but once you are canceled twice, on short notice, maybe try to be a bit more accommodating? In closing, I see this company has received many good reviews and its unfortunate we were not able to go. Based upon my experience, this tour may be a better idea for area residents who are able to reschedule to another day and time on short notice (much like flying stand by). But for tourists this tour is not a good idea. People make reservations and plans for other things, while in town, and if you are canceled on short notice, it may be difficult to find another date they offer you. I don't know, something really seemed off about the whole situation. It is not unusual for people to get sick or for kids to get sick. I found it strange that there was no back up system in place , should a guide be unable to make it. I also found it strange that the owner, who takes time to respond to every review, did not try to reach out or offer a simple apology. read more

Our group had a great time on our beer tour! We learned a lot about the history of beer on the drive from our awesome driver Jenni. The breweries and beer were all great. Only negative thing I would say is what they call a lunch I would call more of an appetizer, so I would recommend eating right before tour. read more

My husband and I had an awesome time! Our beer guide Jeff was exceptional. He was an excellent driver and teacher! We enjoyed getting to meet folks from all over on our trip. There was excess of beer for me but others seemed to enjoy the amount :) One tip if you are driving in find a lot close to the meeting spot. The website advises a lot that was several blocks away and more expensive than others closer by. Overall we had a great time and we would recommend for locals or for tourists :) read more

A friend and I were visiting DC from LA and decided to go on this Brew Tour. We had a fantastic time! The only traffic we really sat in was on our way to the first brewery - the rest of the tour was well planned to minimize time spent in the van. On our way, he gave us the history of beer from prehistoric human to present day. I've rarely had an alcohol-related tour guide have that much information! We got full-on behind the scenes brewery tours at all three breweries we visited, along with multiple tasters. Generous and maybe not for the faint of heart. In between breweries 2 and 3, we stopped for dinner at a beer bar. Where we got a lesson on beer pairings. It was delicious! The experiences of the people who gave 2 stars sound really frustrating, but I have to say our experience was seamless. Overall, really excellent! read more

We stopped at Port City Brewing (Alexandria), Capital City (Shirlington), Brookland Pint and DC Chop House. While it was not the tour we had originally expected (we goofed on the reservation), we had a wonderful time! Adam, our tour guide, was funny, and knowledgeable, although visibly upset when none of us were particularly well-versed in brewing, brew culture or history (HELLO it's an informational tour for a reason). But the party continued! It was a fun experience. I look forward to seeing more breweries and less restaurants with craft brews on tap. read more

(We got to be one of the first people to go on the DC Brew Tour so some things may change from my experience) Full Disclosure: I had been to 3/4 of the breweries on this tour, and it was still a really great time. I was not sure how large of a tour this would be, and was surprised to see a Passenger van waiting for us at the pick up site, so the max number of people is 10. Which makes for a very personal experience. Even though I'd been to most of the breweries, what set this experience apart was the knowledge of the DC Beer scene and history the tour guide provided. It was really cool to hear some of the little known stories coming out of DC beer history. As far as the activities, you spend about 30-40 minutes at each brewery except for the final stop where the food pairing comes into play. (FAIR WARNING: make sure you eat before going on the tour, unless your comfortable tasting ~15 beers before having dinner). The food pairing (at least the one we had at Capital City Brewing) was fantastic, I've done many wine pairings but this was a first for beer and food, but worked really well. Overall a great experience and I hope this tour stays around! read more

We were given the five hour tour and lunch as a gift. Steve was our guide. He was fantastic! He was funny and informative. The group in our fan was definitely lively and he played right along with us. He answered every question and made it a point to make sure everyone was enjoying themselves. I love the idea of the DC Brew Tour however my expectations fell flat. I am so sad I have to give this company 2 stars. During our tour, we had a tour guide in training. Although she was very likable, she was unable to answer several questions and was unsure of her lines. It was often very hard to hear her since we were a group of around 15 people. It took us a very long time to get to our first brewery so the tour started off slow. At our second brewery, we arrived to find the place was closed. There was a miscommunication so we sat outside for 20 minutes. Once we finally got inside, we were told the beer wasn't ready to taste. The tour guide said she would make it up to us by buying us an extra round but she did. Overall, we were disappointed with the experience. read more

This was a fantastic way to spend a Sunday! I like beer but never knew much about it, and this was a fun way to learn more and hang out with friends. Max was funny and knowledgeable and managed to get a group of strangers to drink like old friends. The breweries were all so friendly and welcoming, and it was a great mix of hanging out and learning about the beer-making process. We went to four breweries and tried something like 18 beers in five hours, which was definitely a lot. I highly recommend this for small and large groups, great activity for friends visiting from out of town! Also, don't make plans for after the tour because you will just want to go home, sit on the couch, and eat all the pizza. Great job, Max and DC Brew Tours! read more

Absolutely amazing day trip, I did the 11-4 tour, and had a fabulous time in DC. The tour guide, Chris, kept my interest at each stop explaining the different beer making equipment and the different ways each brewery brews. He was a font of beer knowledge, explaining the entire process in an engaging manner and explained some of the finer points of matching beer to food. If the beer guides in the other cities are anything like Chris, I will definitely have to try them. If you enjoy craft brewing and seeing the workings of a brewery, this tour is for you! read more

Went on a City Brew tour yesterday evening to celebrate a birthday and it was amazing. Isaac B., our guide, was the perfect combination of a great host, knowledgeable about beer and beer making, and a pleasure to be around. Excellent all around: atmosphere, guide, co-tourists, locations, beers, etc. Thanks to Barry for being an outstanding host and leader, as well as knowing -- and enjoying sharing with us -- a lot about the brewing process and each of our tasting beers. My boyfriend and I live in Lorton, VA (local). We took the day tour on Wed 30 December, when we'd taken vacation for the holidays. The clientele on our tour was fairly young (20s-30s) couples and small family/friend groups. We had a full tour: 13 customers + our guide in the 15pax van. The ride was a bit tight, but with social, courteous and interesting people (which we had), that didn't matter. It actually contributed to the group's overall shared experience -- it made the day more fun. We hit four breweries &/or brewpubs, just as stated on the company's web site, and had several beers to taste at each location. Total was ~17 tasters. The tasters were generous pours at each stop; not many folks finished them all! Everything was either exactly as advertised, or better. Some folks on the tour commented that they would have preferred a heartier lunch -- which was included in the cost of the tour -- but what we had was delicious. (My opinion: it's a beer tour, not a heavy meal reservation. I would far rather eat a good breakfast beforehand and have more interesting beer tasters than get a large "included" lunch and either (1) have fewer beers offered, or (2) be too full for the after-lunch beers.) I heard that Brew Tours' expansion to DC is relatively new (2015). Hope that the business and its relationships with DC brewers continue to flourish. I would recommend this trip to anyone who enjoys drinking interesting beer, learning and discussing the science and history of beer, and a quick (5-hour) introduction to the scene in the Washington, DC area. read more

I bought this tour as a Christmas present for my boyfriend and we both loved it SO MUCH! Our tour guide Adam was amazing - he had a good vibe going with the group from the beginning, informed us about the entire brewing process at all the locations, and really knew the history of brewing. Our four stops included Port City, Capitol City, Bardo, and Hellbender. At each location we got to go behind the scenes and see all the equipment and how the processes are slightly different in all the locations. It was clear that this company has a really good relationship with the private breweries and the staff at every location was extremely friendly and welcoming. At Capitol City DC Brew Tours designed a beer pairing with our meal - each lunch item had a different beer sample to accompany it. The food was great and I definitely had enough to eat. Overall a really fun day without the worry of getting ourselves to another location because the tour company did it for us. I would highly recommend this tour and our guide Adam!!! Got an opportunity to go on a DC Brew Tour with a friend and let me tell you; I had no idea DC had such good beer! We went to a couple of different breweries on the tour. Out of the several we stopped at Port City and Bardo were my favorite. Bardo is a brewery that was built to be OUTSIDE!! (Who does that!?) Chris was such an amazing guide, knowledgeable about beer and its history and made our tour so much fun. Chris was able to help us with suggestions for beers and even helped out when some of our guests (including myself!) typically only drink ciders. We went on the tour during our visit to Washington. Max was our guide and there were 11 members in the group. Max did a great job and gave us a lot of interesting information. If you like beer and are in the DC area you gotta take this tour. You get some general as well as local beer history and a little lesson in pairing beer with food. Who'ld a thunk it mattered what food to eat with your favorite beer? It's like a wine tasting tour but for cool people (those who prefer beer!). Our tour guide Luke was awesome. This tour exceeded my expectations. This staff really cares about their customers. I was happy that the trip organizers contacted me to ensure that we signed up for a trip with enough other attendees to make it a go! The 5-hour Happy Hour trip flew by with the help of our lovely host, Marie, who took the time to get to know our personalities and beer likes/dislikes in order to support us through our journey of knowledge and experience. I think the night was a lot of fun. The tour guides really knew beer history, and specifically DC beer history. The breweries knew they were coming so we got to get to the front of the line to taste - or try things that were no on the menu. I think the best part was the beer pairing menu - I had never experienced this before and it was really neat - much more time and effort went into the pairing dinner as opposed to just a pizza dinner. I would recommend this to people looking for a different type of tour in DC - its a very unique way to spend a night. read more

My husband and I did this tour and Saturday with another couple. It was a lot of fun. What we loved, was being with friends, and making new friends in a relaxed environment without having to worry about driving or directions. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable. She was sometimes difficult to hear, as we were a fairly large group and the venues were loud. Two things that would have made it better -- One, the van was very high, and did not have a step, someone in our group had a bad knee and an extremely difficult time getting in and out of the van. Don't recommend for anyone who has mobility issues of any kind. Two, it would be nice if the "dinner" was halfway through the evening instead of at 9:30PM. The last brewery needed more time, not sure if our tour was running late, or if that is just how it falls out. Overall it was a great experience, and we would do it again. Especially if there was the ability to "select" the breweries you toured. read more

We had a great time with Barry on the evening tour in DC. It was wonderful not having to navigate throughout the city. Barry was extremely knowledgeable about the beer brewing process. The tour also offers a nice variety of beer. Be ready to taste LOTS of beer. We booked just a few hours before our tour and we were still able to get in. Make sure you eat something before since the dinner stop is the 3rd stop. For a busy Saturday night, each place was ready for us with little to no wait. Definitely worth the $. read more

My wife and I did this tour and, as D.C. residents, weren't sure what to expect. Suffice it to say, our guide and driver Barry was fantastic. Not only did we get to visit places we had never even heard of, Barry was enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and managed to get the whole group (14 people) who didn't know one another to have a great time and act like old friends. Great way to spend a Saturday night. Also, Barry and DC Brew Tours did a great job planning the route: we were never at any place too long and nothing dragged. I'm honestly soooo sad to have to rate this tour two stars. Maybe it's just me, but I'll tell you of my experience then you can make your own judgements. Went on this tour with my friends to celebrate my birthday, what can be better than touring some brewery's while sightseeing around the city? They stuffed 14 passengers into a van that barely has ac, the tour guide has no microphone so you cannot hear anything that he's saying, he also had no idea where he was going so a friend of mine pulled up his gps to give him directions, the windows have marketing material which limits what you can see, our tour guide has not said a single fact about any landmarks. We finally get to the first brewery and our cups were completely dirty. We asked to get them clean and they didn't happen. We get our beer and our tour guide does not even know what was poured. Up to this point, I'm thinking, it's okay! We still have beer, let's make the best of it. We finished our samples and go up to the bar. The bartender rolled her eyes and gave complete attitude when asking about beers. Felt somewhat embarrassed and left the bar top. After about 30 minutes on the first bar we get in the van to go to our 2nd brewery, still hot van however no landmarks have been recognized and we just start pointing things out for one another. From bar one to bar two, it was about 40 minutes. Enough to sober up and have to start again. However, 2nd brewery- "the public option" was amazing! Billy, the brewer invited us into his garage where he brews his own beer. It was absolutely delicious!! The 2nd bar is enough to redeem the tour. However, we left to get to the 3rd bar which took another 40 min to an hour. Once getting there, the tour guide left us after 15 minutes and that's it, tour over. All in all, it's roughly 2.5 hours of traffic and 1 hour combined at the bars. read more

What a fantastic experience! My wife got me a tour for Christmas. I was expecting basically a pub crawl, but it was a lot better than that. Our tour guide, Barry, was incredibly informative about each of the breweries that we went to, and it was just a delightful experience. If you're a beer fan, I cannot recommend it highly enough. My friends and I took this tour just a few days ago, and all of us could not be more pleased with the experience. The tour is fun, educational, and delicious all at the same time. What's better than drinking the finest beers the city has to offer, getting a buzz on, and going to unique bars and breweries? Also, the food was amazing (the duck fat french fries and aioli sauce are to die for). The food also comes with beer pairings. Highly recommend this trip. read more

I haven't yet been on a tour, this review is about the booking process. I'm coordinating a big birthday celebration and have been dealing with Chelsea. She is wonderful. So incredibly patient, answering too many questions to count. If the tour is half as good as Chelsea, we are in for a treat. read more
