The Sandwhich comes with Mayo smoked Turkey breast, applewood smoked bacon, avocado cheddar cheese, tomato & red leaf lettuce on sourdough bread. It was very good! For dessert I got the Blum's caramel crunch cake. It was a little too sweet for my taste. But tasted like a coffee cake. For drinks we got the famous "teamon-ade" which was delish! It's more social hour vs. lunch hour, so normal weekday lunch saw some heavy crowds that tended to just loiter around. If you're part of that crowd, you have a seat saved. As for me? I heard the tea was good. No Stars. Service - Standard counter service applies here. Wait in line, drool over desserts behind the case, order your meal, grab a number, find a seat, & wait. The staff was friendly enough and moved the line quickly. The only hiccup was they delivered someone else's order to our table and there was a slight mix up. But no harm done - they were quick to resolve. 1 Star. Food - Honestly, my Panini (supposedly popular) was unforgettable. Another review referenced NY, and my apologies but other than the parking situation there wasn't anything that reminded me of NY. The lamb chops is fabulous , nicely seared on the outside with a herb & salt crust, comes with beans & some greens. The duck breast is ok. Cranberry sauce is too funny, wild rice too hard. The espresso infused angel cake was a disappointment. The cake was hard & hardly any coffee taste. Our server kept starting his sentence with "my favorite is...." for everything! We just felt like he was steering us to those dishes. We would like to pick our own coz everyone's taste is different. My wife and I visited to celebrate our anniversary. We showed up early and had a short wait while they figured where to sit us. We loved the interior. We sat at a table across from the kitchen. I didn't mind-I like being near the action. It took a little too long to get menus and the value of food didn't match the cost. However, We enjoyed our steaks, sides and desserts. We couldn't finish our entrees so my mom enjoyed them. We don't know if we'll return but we'd recommend them to anyone. read more

I went there for a business dinner last night and it was an excellent choice. The ambiance is nice, the service is warm and professional, and the atmosphere is sophisticated without being snooty. I had not been for several years but had good memories, which turned out to be accurate. The tomato soup was very good, maybe not as good as I remember, but very good. I first had City Cafe's years ago, before La Madeline's tomato basil soup became so popular. City Cafe's is a bit more bitter but rustic, chunky and thick. You can tell it is homemade. The warm cabbage salad was also very good but not as good as I remember. Maybe the novelty had worn off. But my guests liked it and the portion was big enough to share. The star of the dinner was the filet mignon. Oh my God. There are no words. It was beyond spectacular. I guess the contemporary vernacular is "awesome." It was way beyond awesome, which has to be the most overused word in the English vocabulary these days, to the point of being meaningless. But I digress. The steak ($36) was perfectly cooked to medium, juicy, tender, and so flavorful. There was a great sauce that made swishing pure joy. It came with asparagus that was also perfectly executed. One of my colleagues got the pork tenderloin and said it was excellent. The other colleague also got the filet and we both agreed that it was one of the best steaks we had ever had. As for parking: I used valet ($3) which was convenient and easy. One of my colleagues used the underground garage. I had warned him of "sharp turns and steep inclines" based on previous reviews. After parking his own vehicle he said that maybe if a person were driving a tank or a Hummer it may be difficult, but for a regular car it was not a problem at all. He drives one of those minivan things, so he was amused at my warnings. Maybe driving experience is a factor too? The restaurant is bit pricey, but it is an experience that you feel as if you got your money's worth. I told the wife about our experience and now she insists that I take her. Karim and his staff are absolutely THE BEST in creating a true "dining experience", whether for casual or more formal gatherings, and whether dining alone or with friends/guests. My husband and I dined here for our first time this past Friday evening. Having passed by here for years we never thought about stopping until some good friends of our suggested we eat here. Karim, the owner, greeted us at the door and immediately took us to our table. Wow! Needless to say we had being missing out on a true Dallas gem. Sorry there are no pics in this review but we just enjoyed the food. For apps we ordered the quail special along with the escargot. Both were fantastic. The escargot is not your traditional garlic butter preparation but instead a cream type sauce on a delectable puff pastry. They also bring out these warm freshly baked rolls that are amazing! Dinner we ordered the Dover Sole and Veal Scaloppine. Both were fantastic. We have been other places that struggled plating the sole but not here. These guys were professionals. The veal was the best I can remember in Dallas as well. For dessert we had the key lime pie. It was great but honestly we were both stuffed from the rest of the meal. Their iced tea is also fabulous! I had the most fabulous Bridal Shower thrown for me at City Cafe. We had an elegant Tea Luncheon in their private room. There were about 25 guests and everyone seemed to have a great time! They served 4 different tea sandwiches: egg salad, chicken salad, cucumber, and smoked salmon. I ate all of them all up. Then they served some scones and cream, and then came dessert. They served a chocolate covered strawberry, lemon bar, brownie, and one more (I can't remember). The service overall was great! The waiters and waitresses were very nice and even packed up some of the extra food that they had made in case anything went wrong. The only inconvenience was the parking. The parking garage is scary! The deep inclines and the "dangerous curves" were pretty frightening. Over half of the guests were late because of the crazy parking. read more

Had dinner here last night for my Mom's birthday. It is such a nice low-key spot. Top notch service reminds me of a high-end steakhouse like Nick and Sams, and the food was also fantastic. There was a dessert called Angel Cake that was like the next evolution of Tiramisu. Fantastic stuff. Duck a l'orange was on point. Maaaaybe a tiny bit dry. And the fillet of Sole was skillfully presented and deboned at the table. It was also delish. We reserved a week in advance for a party of 11 for brunch. They had a separate room ready for our party when we arrived. The outside looks like a super tiny little neighborhood cafe, but that is deceiving. Inside it is really much larger and very posh. The decor is upscale and music (for Sunday Brunch) was just what I have on my Spotify. I know that's not a plus for a lot of people, but I loved it. :) The bread baskets that come out after you are seated are super fresh and tasty. We had a range of dishes ranging from traditional breakfasts to crab cake benedict to the special of the day which was a trout and risotto dish I believe. All were cooked perfectly. The service was very attentive and everyone we came into contact with was pleasant and friendly. I highly recommend the City Cafe for Sunday brunch. I'm surprised City Cafe doesn't have more reviews, but then again, it's the sort of place that you have to know about...not the sort of place you just stop in because you're in the area and you see it there. Well, if you brave the horrendously tiny underground garage (or pay the valet to do it for you), you'll be greeted by a quite courteous waitstaff and find yourself in a quite charming, elegant dining room. If you wander in the more casual "City Cafe To Go" next door, you may be confused, as I was. Look for the door with the red "City Cafe" sign over it (facing the Tollway, not Lovers). I was there for a private party in the back room. Service was pretty slow...but it may have just seemed slow to me because I was MIA from work and trying to get back before anyone noticed. Still, when the waiter was told that our table was trying to rush back to work, he promised he'd rush out our desserts...then proceeded to clear the table, sweep the crumbs, and deliver us a whole new set of silverware. WTF! Just slam down some lemon tart, man! We were due back at work an hour ago! That aside, the food was deliiiiicious. I had a filet mignon salad and a lemon tart for dessert, though I wouldn't totally recommend the lemon tart (it tasted like they had shipped it in, not baked it fresh). The filet mignon salad was the bomb. All the other entree choices looked good, too. Minus one star for horrible parking/slow service, and minus another star for the fact that the food (if I was actually paying for it) would probably be a bit overpriced. If you've never been to City Cafe you might be a little confused reading these reviews. There are actually two businesses being reviewed under the same heading. The first is City Cafe, a formal, upscale, sit-down restaurant. The second is City Cafe To Go, a casual eatery that's right next door and I assume under the same ownership. I am reviewing City Cafe, my favorite restaurant in Dallas. For starters, it's unlike the majority of fine dining experiences. The place is not trendy, there is no industrial design, reclaimed wood, or subway tile. Instead, there's an aura of calm civility and an invitation to lose yourself in the experience of incredible food and excellent service. Then there's Karim, the owner. He is exceptionally gracious, and while I know it's a cliche, he makes diners feel as if they are his personal guest. My husband and I took some of his colleagues there last night and the food and presentation were flawless as usual. Highly recommended. read more

Went to City Cafe today for tea, for Valentines. Our server could not have been nicer & the $25 price was reasonable. But the food, plating & presentation was well below the normal afternoon tea expectations. Some examples: 1) regular restaurant plates & cups were used instead of fine china, 2) stainless steel dressing/gravy boats were used for honey & strawberry jam, instead of individual jars 3) no individual teapots for the table - our cups were just replenished 4) no lumps of sugar and 5) although I was told everything would be made fresh on site, by their pastry chef, the scone was underdone in the middle & the desserts very pedestrian, with wilted petals on the strawberries. I have never been to a lot of cute eateries in Dallas but it was across the awesome Paper Affair Dallas store. When we walked in, there is the regular City Cafe that takes you upstairs and the cafe you walk straight into - this is City Cafe to go. You're immediately greeted by friendly staff. The menu selection is so customer friendly. You get a great select of options that isn't overwhelming with descriptions and a very reasonable price. Word around is that their iced tea is amazing which they give free refills when you eat in the store. We were able to pick our seats and one of the ladies brought the food to us. If you don't want anything off the menu and you're more a visual person, they have a long aisle of food you can look at that you can get plated too. THE FOOD: Chicken Pesto hot sandwich (forgive me on the name - I forgot it!) Anyways this warm panini sandwich came with a nice little italian salad. It was delicious - there was bacon, tomatoes, cheese with some yummy pesto. It gets a little greasy but its worth it. Teamonade - I opted for this Arnold palmer imitation drink which was sweet and yes was half tea/ half lemonade. PRICE: I didn't pay but I believe my food & drink hit under the $15 mark. Desserts are so pretty. Sugar melts in my mouth just looking at them. My first meal ordered was egg salad on top of a side salad. Oh my the base of egg salad is exquitie and the best tasting I've ever had. The thick baked crunchy butter battered bread is served as a cracker. Eavesdropping orders, I quickly access what is being ordered with enthusiasm. Patron after patron, each order is placed with stronghold confidence and excitement for the delivery of the deliciousness. I heard fr a take out regular that weekday they offer a hot special blue plate of the day with choice of 2 veggies. Saturday afternoon is the time. Sunshine is the weather. This is my favorite place to eat in Dallas. After living in the city for 12 years, the above statement is bold. However, City Cafe To Go has earned the title. My first experience with CCTG was my senior year of high school when I stopped in after service at Children's Medical Center. It was a tiny, crowded place with 5 mismatched tables and lots of Park Cities moms with strollers and work-out outfits. The place has since been expanded twice, and now parking and seating are not problem at all. Fortunately, the food has remained awesome despite the expansion and matching furniture. I always get the same thing: the caprese panino with a side of pasta salad and an iced tea. The panino is super tasty with fresh mozzarella, tomato, basil, and some kind of magic sauce. The pasta salad is equally fresh and flavorful with pesto and veggies. Sure, this combo is $12, but I feel it's well worth it. The iced tea here is AMAZING. All those Park-y moms are coming in the get that tea before sitting forever in the carpool line post tennis practice. Despite the stuck-up trophy wives, this place is "da bomb." read more

Except the girl you were once head over heels in love with has put on 60 pounds, stopped shaving her legs and armpits and bore 14 children (all brats). We got to City Cafe about 5 minutes before our reservation time. We stood waiting for someone to acknowledge us for 10 minutes. Finally, a young girl, who was obviously new, in training and had never done anything like this, greeted us and told us it wouldn't be long. Over the next 20 minutes she, and the owner/ Manager, told us no less than five times our table was almost ready. At 30 minutes past our reservation time, we were seated. It was a Valentine's Day menu. It was late, we were hungry so we dived right into the menu. My wife decided on sea bass. The waiter came up and informed us that they were out of sea bass (and snapper). He went off, allowing us to regroup, and my wife decided on the scallops. The waiter came back. My wife orders the scallops, the waiter says, "ohhh, we may have just sold our last order of scallops, let me go check." He comes back and sure enough, they're out of scallops. He defends all of this by saying, "It's Valentines weekend, of course we're going to be running out of the seafood." How about its 9:30 on a Saturday night, you're a $40 per entree restaurant and you stock enough food that you put on the menu so you're customers don't get so pissed they never want to come back??? How about that for a restaurant business philosophy, smartass! I ordered soup, a Caesar salad and the filet. The soup was good. The filet was sublime. The Caesar salad? Never got it! I guess the good news is, I wasn't charged for it. Mr. Special Valentine's menu must have run out if that too and just didn't have the heart to tell us. Highly overpriced restaurant in the neighborhood. It look pretty simple from outside however is an old school style American restaurant on the inside with fancy table cover and china. The service in great however the menu is very traditional. We got one round if drinks, 2 appetizers, 7 main courses and 2 sides and our bill touched $480 (including tip) which was very steep in my opinion for the food and ambience. I am a vegetarian and the veggie plate was sub par (4 pieces each of grilled zucchini, eggplant, pepper, asparaus and beans, with undercooked rice and hummus). The rest of then got sea food however they ran out of somehing and gave us subs. Our mains took forever to come and they gave us free desserts which is a part of the great service. This is a gem of a neighborhood grab-and-go eatery for those that don't have time to cook and don't trust themselves picking ingredients at Eatzi's salad bar. (Why do I always have a Mexi-Medi-Cobb themed salad?) I've had shrimp quesadillas, a chicken-walnut salad with poached pears and the kids chicken tenders. All were worth a re-order and under $10. They have a lemon tart with toasted meringue that is worth a trip alone (even with the sometimes cumbersome parking situation). They have a glass case brimming with pre-made enchiladas, heaping meaty lasagna and home-made pork tamales...all like my mother never used to make. Their egg salad sandwich is huge, and I only got half. I especially like the moist bread and BACON on the sandwich. Their Cesar salad dressing is very yummy. We got the Italian Cream Cake for dessert. The icing tasted kind of like bland whipped butter, but of course we polished it off. It's been a few years since I've eaten there. the menu is all over the place. she had the cabbage salad - it was ok. i had the onion soup - it was ok. she had the sea bass. it was pretty good. but a huge lump of so so mashed potatoes. i had the roasted chicken with goat cheese. so so. nothing to write home about, not bad, not really that good. wouldn't come back. read more
