Stopped in to pickup some casseroles for my elderly MIL. Our picks were, chicken spaghetti, spinach chicken enchiladas, king ranch chicken, chicken ziti & chicken & broccoli rice casserole. Everything was tasteless & mushy, I wouldn't serve it to my dog. The enchiladas were bland, no seasoning, not even salt and pepper. The chicken ziti was just the opposite. It had too much salt and pepper. The king Ranch chicken had barely any chicken and resembled, tasted like wallpaper paste. And that broccoli rice was horrific, the rice was hard. I hardly ever leave bad reviews, but today caused me to. I had lunch there today (Fri 6/28). While ordering, I saw through the kitchen an elderly man (no gloves) that picked up food (what looked like chicken) out of a large stainless prep bowl and put it in his mouth. Bare hands. I am not sure if that was the first time, but he was standing right over that bowl. It was a giant bowl and looked ready for some sort of food prep. This same bowl of meat (?) was out about 40 mins later, not refrigerated. Children in kitchen (NOT child labor, just probably there for summer -- but I don't think the kitchen is the place for them to hang out. No one wears hair nets, or has hair fully pulled back if not wearing hair net. This is such a popular place, very wealthy clientele and I personally liked it so much, fantastic to-go food options. However, I'm afraid the food prep & kitchen has some sanitary violations. I have noticed other things in the past, but I didn't want to see it because I love this place. Once I saw the eating from bowl, that did me in. I would seriously recommend another review of hygienic rules for food prep before someone gets ill. read more

I am super stoked to have finally made it here! located in snider plaza, it is conveniently located to some great shopping and awesome people watching. The place isn't fancy at all, but the food was delicious. This is a place I can see myself going to quite often and am truly excited about returning! I ended up ordering the 1/2 sandwich & cup of soup. I got the lite tuna salad and the white chicken chili. I will definitely get this again. For dessert I ordered the chocolate covered oreo balls. they literally melt in your mouth!! The price is very reasonable as well. Short Stop is a perfect option for family takeout. They have the BEST chicken salad, and their chicken and shrimp spring rolls and artichoke rice salad are delicious. Their casseroles are also great, and they'll fill up your own personal casserole dishes if you want people to think you slaved away all day cooking. Short Stop has the BEST tuna salad ever. It's moist but not swimming in mayonaise. I've been going here for 2-3 years now and it's always consistent. The broccoli raisin salad with peanuts is unique and tasty. The portion is usually enough that I can have half for lunch and the other half for dinner...although sometimes I get greedy :). Although I haven't tried anything else here, the place is always packed during the lunch hour and I've heard good reviews about their spring rolls as I was waiting in line. I have been going to Short Stop (the Snider Plaza location) for about 5 years now. I always order the spring rolls. I crave them! They're wrapped in rice paper with chicken, rice noodles, red bell peppers and shredded carrots. For dipping, you get peanut sauce and a spicy soy. My method is to dip in the spicy soy and then get a little bit of the peanut sauce too. =) Tip: they always run out of spring rolls by 12:30 or so. Sometimes I call it in to go and you'll have better luck with that. You can order them at the counter or grab them in a to go container in the refrigerators. The tuna salad, mexican tuna salad, and chicken salad are great as well! You can get little cups of them, a scoop on salad, or on a sandwich. There are also lots of dinner dishes that you can take and just heat up at home. Think chicken spaghetti, king ranch chicken, lasagna, etc. They make appetizers you can call a big catering order in for, or take to go in smaller quantities as well. The sausage balls are my favorite! They're sausage, cheese and some sort of breading (maybe Bisquick?). They have a bit of spice to them, but nothing intense. I served these at a party and everyone went nuts over them. The girls at the front counter are not very friendly. The owner isn't very warm and friendly either, but I think she just has one of those dry personalities. She was helpful when I called in some large orders. Another tip: They have a "sale" refrigerator with frozen meals to go where you can get large portions for a small amount of money. At the Snider Plaza location, when you walk in it's on the left hand side of the store. I know a lot of people have overlooked it and didn't even know it was there! Though Texas has some Southern flare to it, the state certainly doesn't fall back on some true Southern staples that I so desire: pimento cheese and fried green tomatoes. There is, however, a resurgence of these classics within the fancier Southern institutions opening up. Deviled eggs are killing it in the restaurant world right now. One thing I will search far and wide for is Pimento cheese, a rather oddly orange-colored, processed cheese-type food. Normally, I'm all about the wholesome grub, such as a salsa with chunks or natural looking ingredients. Here, you can just see straightforward mayonnaise and various colors. And it is all the better for you having no earthly idea what resides inside of the spread. A little thicker than most, but a smidgen on the sweet side. As your typical stop and go, whatever you call it, Short Stop would satisfy even the pickiest munchers, what with the munchies ranging from sammiches over to pre-made dips and the like. I can't believe I paid $9 for this salad. It was 90% iceberg lettuce and cabbage with 3 slices of tomato, 2 slices of cheese, and the menu said it had chicken in it, but they fooled me. Super cute, but not in your typical Park Cities way. The food was yummy, super easy to make your selections of the previously prepared food, if you want something that needs to be prepared they have several choices to choose from. I ordered the Italian Sandwich which was a tad bit greasy but it was good, and the chicken noodle soup. The chicken noodle soup was the best thing, besides the mini muffin that came with the meal. The chicken noodle soup was full of big chunks of veggies and chicken, and it was seasoned well. The veggies were very tender, and it was certainly homemade. The girl behind the counter was extremely sweet I walked in not feeling well and I wanted soup, and I was unsure of what sandwich I wanted. She offered some suggestions but I ended up with the Italian sandwich on my own accord. I asked her if she would let me run down to another store while I waited for my food to be ready and she said of course i'll hold it for you. So I ran to another store and by the time I came back my food was sitting there ready for me. By the time I got back to work on a pretty cold day my food was still a great temperature, and it tasted great. The food in my opinion is better priced than many of the places in the park cities. Short on Flavor for the price. Tried three items: Beef Stroganoff had the character of a Hamburger Helper meal...noodles way overcooked and sauce claimed no distinctive flavor, certainly no hint of sour cream; in fact tasted more like a can a cream of mushroom soup. Really disappointing. Chicken artichoke casserole had potential but was extremely over salted, chicken was tough and minimal. The sauce, again, was of the Campbell's cream of something variety. Club salad was not much more than what may be purchased at most grocery stores these days and the dressing was far too sweet to be edible. Not sure the chef is tasting the food here. While they tasted ok, i was very disappointed in the value, 7 bucks for a 1/2 of a "wonder bread" sized sandwich and a scoop of brocoli, i truly felt like the food was like a trip back in time to my school cafeteria, you know what I mean, just 2 pieces of bread with some meat in the middle, perhaps I did not order the right thing to be fair, but I do not go back to places where I feel I do not get a good value, there are dozens of other options within a 5 min drive, i guess if you can get people to pay high prices for average food, more power to you, read more

Most of the food is great at this place, especially the hummus, the spring rolls and the spinach chicken enchiladas. The artichoke dip is not too great and has tons of unchewable, hard pieces of artichoke in it, not to mention that it is very expensive. Despite having good food- the problem is the service.
