Absolutely love it here. First off, the interior is warm and fun. They've always got a game on, but also usually some fun channel (allowing us to watch the Ravens and Star Wars at the same time). The service is super fast and friendly, and I've always enjoyed my experience. Also, the food is SO cheap. The portions on sides and appetizers are enormous, it is so easy to feed a huge group here. The Hot Dogs themselves are good as well (though I'm partial to the corn dog nuggets). It's not the most gourmet spot in the city, for sure, but I don't think it needs or wants to be. It's just good and greasy. It's a great spot for drink deals too, pitchers and buckets are always a good price. It makes it an excellent place to hang out with friends, or to end a long night. There is metered street parking available on the street in front of the restaurant and within a reasonable walking distance. They have a small dining room with a couple of televisions and music playing throughout. There is table and bar seating available. The staff there was very friendly and attentive. In addition to their exotic hotdogs, they serve burgers, sandwiches and booze.They have a hotdog of the month and daily drink specials. I ordered a Philly hot dog, a Hawaiian hot dog and some fries. It took about 10 minutes for me to get my food. It was made fresh. The food was good. I will admit though, that the hotdogs were a bit on the small side. They were good, but there were not the best I have had. My favorite of the two being the Hawaiian. There was a bunch of fresh and they were of the hand-cut variety. WoW! Came here on the recommendation of a friend. First off I LOVE a good hotdog, ok to be honest I love hotdogs in general. Just something about a hotdog that hits the spot like nothing else. Brought the 3 minions with me (11,9&7), we left our adult at home this trip. Ordered a basket of tots, a philly dog, chicago dog, richmond dog, and two kids cheeseburgers. Kids meals- both gave the cheeseburgers 5 stars. That's hard earned, especially from my 9 year old! The buns were fresh and portion was large. Like I could have eaten it for a light lunch! Honestly, the burger wasn't anything special, but what really stood out were the portion sizes of the chili cheese fries--pretty small and pretty debatable on whether that was chili... So the thing I focused on was the freshness of the ingredients. They all were melt in your mouth fresh. It was a winner. I moved to the Tennessee Dog, which I had to try because it features home made chili and home made coleslaw. The slaw was fresh and more savory than sweet, which is not what I was expecting. Nevertheless, it was great on the dog. The homemade chili was delicious too. Again, this is not "out of the can" chili- this is a chef owning his or her craft. In between bites, I snacked on their house cut French Fries. Again- no frozen crap here. They have a decent stocked bar and beer on tap. What could be better? Okay-- I am trying to lose a little weight so maybe this place was a bad idea. I mean, I got a sausage to go for the hour long ride home. I will be back. The veggie dog had a very mushy texture but I won't blame that on them too much since they had a visible char on the outside. This was a great location for us as it is centered downtown and walking distance from our hotel. We came in and sat down with no wait at all. I ordered the hotdog platter which comes with 2 Richmond original dogs (chili, raw onions, mustard) and 2 sides for about $10 bucks. I opted one hotdog for a Chicago dog and chose potato salad and tots for my sides. The potato salad was not my favorite but the tots were well seasoned and fresh. The hot dogs weren't anything special, but the toppings made them better. All hot dogs can be substituted for soy dogs for an extra twenty-five cents if that's something you wanted. I have to say, I didn't expect a sit-down place with wait service but that's what it is. Not formal of course, and I haven't been here late at night with the drunk crowds but I can see that the service can be hit or miss. I'm a fan of bar seating, and they truly do have a full service bar, plus quite a few hot dog offerings and even a bunch of sandwiches. The kitchen is very small, and I haven't tried anything but the hot dogs but they're quite good. The hot dog menu is a bit heavy on options with chili, sauerkraut, and salsa but I can see why you'd want to re-use ingredients with such a small kitchen. The chili is all meat (and a bit of grease) with just okay taste so I wouldn't get it on its own but on most hot dogs it will be fine with onions, mustard, etc. The buns are soft but hold up to everything just fine and the hot dogs are thin but have just enough snap to be close to perfect. They definitely leave plenty of room for the toppings. I'd love to have more exciting options, such as a Sonoran Dog instead of the fairly generic Santa Fe Dog, etc. But I understand the limitations of a tiny kitchen and if the clientele is happy then go with it - take your money and run. This is a generally well done establishment and I'll be back when I'm in downtown Richmond. read more

The service is always good and friendly. Before I moved from Richmond, this was my go-to spot for food and drinks. Now the part most people really only care about... the food! The food is great!! There a few options of different style dogs to choose from. My favorite is the Carolina Dog w/ BBQ on a hotdog, like who does that?! But I have tried an array of different styles and I must say I have not tried anything yet that I haven't like. Upon my recent visit, I had the Carolina Dog (duh) and a Chicago Dog. No cheese? Who thought mustard on a chili dog made sense? Mustard and onions should be reserved for a bratwurst not the classic Frankfurter. Since you don't even use that same Chili as the Cincinnati it's no wonder there are a few haters in the group. I also know that not every hotdog uses the same wiener *snicker*. Good, dependably prepared dogs in many variations. The fries are always good and plentiful. I have enjoyed the Cincy dog, the slaw dog, and the burgers in the past, among other things. Today was a spicy italian sausage with mustard and kraut and an original dog with mustard, onions, and chili to which I had jalapenos added. The sausage had a nice snap and a modicum of spice, and I enjoyed the spicy mustard added to it. The kraut was tasty but not as sharp as I hoped (but most kraut isn't as sharp as I hope, so not problem here.) The original dog featured a good chili that was not overly wet, and the added jalapenos were fresh and hot. Nice! I wish the dogs were bigger to compete with the generous toppings, but that is a minor point. Service at the bar is fast, efficient, and not intrusive. Hubby has the Honolulu hot dog which has pineapples, provolone cheese and bbq sauce and the Boston dog which had sauerkraut, relish and mustard. We also had the corn dog nuggets which happen to be amazing. All of the hot dogs were good. I would definitely revisit. The fries were also good as well. Staying at the hotel next door and looking for a quick lunch and was thrilled to see city dogs next door. The concept is great, dogs based on specific cities and regions. I had a flight to catch so got there right as they opened, I walked in and asked her if they were open, she sneered and annoyingly looked at her watch and said "barely" and walked away. Rest of the people I dealt with were great but great way to greet a customer, guessing you won't be there long with that attitude. Now onto the dogs. Big north NJ dog fan so grabbed a Coney Island dog and the Manhattan dog, couple of dogs I know a little something about. I really wanted to like them but the buns were terrible - soft and mushy so the dogs just fell apart. There was also something sweet in one of them, maybe relish? Sorry big nope on that.
