Firstly, the service was awesome we had the nicest waitress. The building was nice and clean. Now, I'm not a big fan of hot dogs but this was one of the best meals of my life. The Fan Dog was my pick and it did not disappoint. The flavors went so well together and the dog itself was perfection. Our server recommended the Carolina Dog so we had to try that too and it was somehow even better than the first one. The cheese curds and fan sauce was great too! And the prices are insanely good. I will 100% be making another 16 hour drive just for you city dogs. If this establishment has no fans it means I am dead. I can't recommend this enough. read more

Had a delicious experience at City Dogs! No wonder this is a Richmond Staple. City dogs mainly serves hot dogs but they are so inventive with the toppings which makes their offerings so great. The hot dogs themselves have a good snap and are the perfect size for the buns they offer. My partner and I tried two different flavors of dogs each and shared a basket of tots which were huge, crispy and hot. My favorite dog that I got was the Indy Dog, topped with fries and sport peppers which made for a fun bite. The sport peppers offered the perfect amount of spice. Our server was really kind and the food came out very quick. I really dug the sports bar vibe and they offer indoor/outdoor seating which is nice, they could definitely accommodate large groups. This is definitely the place to go for a quick but good meal! Hands down the best hot dog restaurant we've ever been to. The prices are extremely fair and the dogs are loaded with a variety of flavors and styles even with some fun monthly creations! Great place to spend a late night out or to just swing by for a quick bite. There's outdoor seating and stools at the bar to enjoy. When we went the service was pretty slow but they were busy, so take that into account. Keep in mind, this a bar with a dive bar type of feel, sticky floors type of vibe. Once again I was in an outing with my family and we were trying to find something cheap. None of us talked about getting hot dogs but we decided to go anyway. I was surprised that the glizzys were catered so I just settled with a Louisiana Dog and Coney Island with Tater Tots. Friendly and quick service! Menu has quite a few different hot dogs but also lots of other things! Today I tried Philly dog with onions, peppers and cheese that was crispy on the edges - yummy! Also had a basket of fries - huge order for two people, fries were perfectly crunchy on the outside and soft inside. We also ordered corn dog nuggets - not my favorite, a bit overly fried and oily but I was able to peel batter off and eat nice size hot dog chunks! Sorry I got no pics but we were hungry. They had been ready for a very long time but the waitress would not pick them up. I have been frequenting this place since 2012-2016 and was delightfully relieved when I saw it was still going strong when I moved back in 2022. As someone who is not vegetarian but has many vegetarian family and friends, I was surprised at how delicious the vegan dog/soy chili is. It is actually my go-to (Santa fe style). The jalapeños are fresh, not pickled, which is a HUGE plus for me. The fries are pretty good. I've tried the corn dog nuggets a couple times and they're a little over cooked or the batter is off. I also can't quite put my finger in why I'm not a fan of the ketchup, considering it's probably a generic/mass-produced ketchup. But it's definitely not a deal-breaker for me. 6/14/20 approximately noon. For some reason I have been craving hot dogs. I can go all year long under normal conditions and not even eat a hotdog. But lately I think in the last five days I've eaten hotdogs three, weird. Anyway, today I was craving a hot dog. When I googled where I could get a hotdog it took me to City Dogs. Since restaurants are not really busy because of the quarantine there was not anybody inside eating. However, there were a few people outside eating on the patio. The two girls that work there were very nice and helpful and answered my questions, really nice people. After staring at the menu and not being able to really see it without glasses I asked the waitress if I could just tell her what I wanted. she was really good at helping me out. I ordered two Coney Island hot dogs and added sauerkraut. Soooo, the hotdogs are tiny. T.I.N.Y. I would think in a hotdog restaurant that they have all kinds of different size hotdogs, but they don't. I'm trying to make logic of how tiny these hotdogs are. The only thing I could come up with is they have to be small so that you can get all the toppings in the bun. That's all I can come up with. Even if that's the case, I prefer my hot dog bigger. I don't know if y'all remember the Big 8 hotdogs but those were a good size for me. Whatever happened to them they're not in the store anymore? After 9pm (on weekends as far as I know) you have to show the bouncer your ID and order food/drinks from the bar. My husband and I are new to Richmond. I looked up restaurants and discovered a listing for City Dogs on 1309 West Main Street in Richmond . Upon arrival we noticed that the inside is a bar restaurant with tables off to the side if you want distance from the action. But it was a lovely summer like day so my honey and I opted to sit outside on the picturesque outdoor porch. We were waited on by a friendly personable young man named Trey and a warm hospitable waitress named Miriam. City Dogs offers fifteen different kinds of franks from all over the United States and the world! There are also burgers and chicken sandwiches and amazing sides. On that visit my husband tried a dog with peppers and onions and a side of fries. I had a chili dog with shredded cheddar cheese and delicious juicy onion rings. On our second visit we met more wonderful wait staff, Kim and Faith an aspiring actress. We sampled Angus burgers. Once again my husband enjoyed fries and I sampled tator tots. The owner Cliff actually sat down at our table and had a conversation! Talk about Southern hospitality! On our third and fourth visits we tried the Honolulu dog, which comes with barbecue sauce and pineapple. We both skipped the provalone cheese. I finally checked out the fries.
