Today was my second visit, and I had a much better experience. I called prior to my arrival just to make sure that Naaz was in and luckily she was. It wasn't very busy, so I was able to see her quickly. She had recognized me from my previous Yelp comment, and had panicked a little inside, but Naaz treated me with the utmost professionalism. She explained to me about how much she cares about her customers, so any problems that arise are immediately rectified. She also explained to me the light situation lol. Most importantly, the threading was great, although I felt like was doing yoga with the amount of times I needed to shift my body and pull on my face. All in all, this place is worth going to. I always come here for my eyebrows, I literally only trust them to do a great job! I live in NJ but I am frequently in the city so whenever I have time I always go here for my brows. The older lady who I believe is the owner always does a fantastic job and everyone is always friendly and willing to fix any little mistakes that you may see. I also did the blackhead removal on my nose and they did a great job. I came home from here and literally bawled my eyes out. The lady that did my brows must have been blind because she thinned them out and made them entirely uneven. I had beautiful, full brows and she somehow also managed to erode their natural arch, as well. I have an event coming up and not even an eyebrow pencil can fix this. I look insane. This was the WORST experience ever! I had eyelash extensions put in and during my entire appointment, the manager was instructing the girl on how to put the eyelashes on as though I was her first client. When the service was complete, my eyes were literally glued shut and I could not open them. When I was finally able to open my eyes, the eyelashes looked horrible and my eyes were burning. I proceeded to pay because I was unsure what to do at this point and hoped the pain would go away. When I got home, the burning got worse and the eyelashes were falling out. I called to get a refund and after a lot of back and forth, she agreed to refund me. I was going to have to actually spend more money getting the eyelashes removed, so this was the least that she could do to make up for the experience. However, the refund was less than the amount that I actually spent. When I went in recently to not even get the difference back but apply the amount not refunded towards an eyebrow threading (additional revenue to the establishment), the manager said that there was NOTHING she could do. I will NEVER go back and advise others to STAY AWAY from this horrible establishment. read more

The lady threading my eyebrows asked me if I wanted to get my upper lip done as well. I said "okay yeah, I should. I need it anyways." But then she started also doing my lower lip without even asking me. She then charged me extra. She knew what she was doing. Based on other reviews, this seems common. 1st time I came here, I waited for about 20min. even though I was repeatedly told "just 2 more min". I ended up leaving without getting my brows done bc I had to go to work. As I got up to leave the owner told me she would do them "right now" even though she had a customer in her chair. She then asked the girl if she could get up so she could do my eyebrows (this way she doesn't miss out on any money). I said no thanks, as I felt that was very unprofessional to ask of someone; the girl may have also needed to be somewhere at a certain time. About 2 weeks later I gave it another try. I was told I should get my upper lip waxed to make me "more beautiful" which really bothered me bc I don't think you should make a customer feel less than, as your sales pitch. I was also told I need to get rid of the blackheads on my nose. At this point I was totally uncomfortable and just wanted to leave. As I got up to chk my brows out, I noticed I was bleeding. I was quite disappointed with the results from this place. It was empty when I walked by, but due to good ratings here I tried it. I had my brows threaded and my upper lip waxed. It was done by a slightly older lady, who was talking very quietly. So quietly, I had sometimes a hard time understanding her. At first in the salon I felt she did a great job, but after closer examination at home I saw that she missed quite a few stray hairs around my brows and my lip. I feel it is my absolutely unique characteristic, the one single thing about myself that I find the sexiest. This small intro to illustrate why the 5 glowing stars may have some extra weight coming from yours truly ;-) A few weeks ago, I stumbled upon the establishment, I work in midtown Manhattan and live in Queens. I was out after having coffee with friends Sat afternoon and really not in the mood to try yet another salon after the many disappointments I had. Oh boy, am I glad I tried. The lady who greeted me, listened exactly what I wanted, no interruptions, no affirmations while I spoke. She just heard me out fully and patiently. I didn't have to provide her with examples of models or actresses, I didn't have to leaf through magazine pages. She simply listened to me. REALLY listened. The outcome was incredible. If I ever had the patience or the technique to do it myself, I don't think I'd manage any better that what she did: left thick in the right places, "razor-sharp" crisp on top, accentuated angle following the natural line along my brow. The outcome was stencil-like precise and completely natural both at the same time. Perfection. I just couldn't believe it, I was trying to hold off my amazement, I was thinking to myself "this is beginner's luck" (for me). I decided to throw her a "curve-ball" on the spot: I asked her to wax my mustache and chin, which have very few scattered but wiry hair and threading really hurts, plus I get these horrible pimples and irritation from threading them. She waxed these off in two seconds flat, no questions asked. Exactly what I wanted. In my past experience with other beauticians, I had to explain why I don't want threading of my 'stache and chin. I don't know about you, but I hate having to explain why I want what I want. Especially when I am paying! So, I decided to make this random "walk-in" visit into a full-scale waxing session. I was nearing the 45 days mark and I was getting anxious with my inability to find an acceptable to my standards waxing salon in the middle of the bikini season. I had nothing left to lose except unwanted hair. The outcome was again BRILLIANT. I don't want to provide TMI, but for a full Brazilian with almost zero discomfort and the whole works (underarms, forearms, upper/lower legs, fingers and toes), she was extremely fast. I decided that this is absolutely my "go-to" salon for threading and waxing, even if I need to change two trains from Queens on a weekend with "planned engineering works". After all, how many times can you be fully satisfied with something and let it go? Plus, the salon is very spacious and relaxing (especially for downtown Manhattan), the purple/hot pink combination is flirty but smart, it smells wonderful, the staff is respectful, they LISTEN, they make polite conversation without being overly chatty. Check, check, check, and check! And of course, because I wouldn't post review based on a single visit, I left the "pink goggles" at home and had another eyebrow threading yesterday. I am happy to report that the "stroke of genius" was not an isolated incident, I was again completely happy with my eyebrow which is something that hasn't happened to me in many years and after changing many (MANY) salons. So I am hereby declaring to the Internet void my commitment to stay with "City Eyebrow Threading" and I wish them many long years in the business of making women and men happy with themselves. Came here while strolling around the west side and was v badly in need of a general facial hair clean up. I was seated and waited about 10 mins for Naaz to help me. Her handiwork was great (painless and soft to the touch unlike a lot of other people), so much so that I did not mind her asking me if I wanted to thread my chin area too. Usually I don't but prices were reasonable enough: $7 for eyebrows, $5 for upper lip, $5 for the general bottom of the face area (chin, etc). Make sure you get the breakdown though because I suspect I missed it and overpaid by a couple dollars. Anyway, it's difficult to find a decent threader even in the city so get it done here. read more

The eyebrows turned out well, but we both didn't like how the threader (we didn't catch her name) spoke very broken English, and she threaded my friend's upper lip without asking, which cost $5. My friend simply asked for an eyebrow threading and expected to pay $7, but ended up paying $12 for eyebrows and upper lip. Probably will not be going back. read more
