I called CityGates for "emergency" service, to get a garage door open the next day at 8AM so I can let a contractor into the building with equipment. They confirmed yesterday, but this morning, no one showed up, and they now tell me I have to wait for other jobs to be completed first. First, they had an answering service answer, take my message and say someone will call back - no one ever called me back, I had to call again 2 hours later and go through the same process. I eventually spoke with someone who worked for CityGates, and arranged for an 8AM appointment the next day. CityGates sent a proposal, which we signed and returned within 30 minutes. There is nowhere to enter card information, however, so I asked (via email) how to pay and didn't get any response until 630PM when they said to call. I called, no one answered. I called again in the morning and they said someone would be there between 830 - 10 AM. I called and texted multiple times but did not get an answer. By 1030 still no one showed up, so I called back, and they finally gave me the tech's phone #, but said he is on another project in Manhattan and will be to my project in an hour or so. They said that someone will call me back today and I responded that I'm in several meetings today and wanted to know when to expect the call. I hired City Gates to install remote controlled gates on my business in NY. The initial experience in getting the gates installed was not good but the real problems started when the gate was installed. The technician came and installed the gate in one day. This was a 20 foot wide gate and the technician or designer only placed 1 slide lock on the entire gate. This meant anytime the wind blew the gate would jump off track and break. This caused my business to be hurt because I could not open the gate to allow customers in. When I called City Gates, telling them the gate was broken it always took about 2 weeks to get a technician to come fix - leaving me with a business where customers could not get in or had to limbo underneath. Very unprofessional. Each time the technician came out, they stated that the gate was installed incorrectly. The proper installation should have had more than one slide lock on the gate in order to not be blown off the tracks. The technicians told me they instructed Vincent Greco, the VP of sales that the gates were not installed properly and that the slats needed to be reinstalled properly with sufficient slide locks. Each technician told me that Vincent Greco did not want to install the gates as should have been done originally and he would not honor the warranty. I was told this was a common approach by the Sales dept to get more money out the customers. After being blown off the tracks several times with my business being impacted and huge security issues with no gates protecting my business, i implored Vincent Greco to fix the slates with proper slide locks. He did not and insisted that I pay an additional $3000 to have the gates re- installed the way the should have been initially. I was held hostage and had no choice but to agree to the additional money. Vincent did not honor City Gates warranty and made me pay more money than originally quoted just so my business could open again. I took pictures and videos each time the technicians came out and have poof of the technicians saying that the work should be covered under warranty but Vincent wanted more money. Finally after the gates were installed with proper side locks, i have had no issues with the gate. This makes it obvious they were not installed properly the first time. I have tried to speak to City Gates about this issue many times and cannot get Vincent on the phone ever again after he takes your money for the initial contract. I feel like this is a process where City gates quotes a number and installs the gates improperly in order to get more money out of you. City Gates refunded my money after they took down the poorly installed gate. However, they placed a "Mechanics Lean" on my house after I wrote a review about my encounter with them on yelp. A Mechanic Lean is a charge or claim upon the property of another individual as security for a debt that is created in order to obtain priority of payment of the price. Never had a company do such poor work, refuse to back it up and give me the run-around like this one has. It has gotten so bad for them that at the first sign of dissatisfaction, they will not pick up the phone, they will not stop by to inspect their work, they will run to file a lien. They have no problem showing up to price the job and collect your money but try to get them to show up to do the job or fix it after they screw it up. After days of being told they were on the way they finally showed up day 3. That's 3 days of my business being closed because the gate didn't open. Finally replace the defective motor. Now only a year later going through the same problem on day 4 of my gate not opening. They wanted to charge me $600 just to come on weekend, & here we are on Tuesday still no service. People answering phones are rude & lie through their teeth just to get you off the phone. Save yourself the stress & call another company. read more

We hired CityGates to do some renovations to our gate for improvement. Instead of improving our gate, they completely destroyed it- which will cost thousands for us to replace. We have never seen such a horrible, unsafe, and unorganized construction site in all 40 years of us being in business. It must have been their technicians first day on the job, as seen by his poor welding skills and cutting skills. Our once fully functional gate now does not sit on the track anymore, has horrible welding work that gets caught in the coil everyday, and holes burned throughout our gate that were not there. The pictures do not do this horrible job justice. We have called the office many times asking for the owner Vincent, as well as emailed him. It's been a couple weeks, he hasn't called us yet. Save yourself the headache, and find a gate company with more experience and an owner who takes responsibility and returns calls. read more

Wow... Tough experience with these guys. They too threatened a Mechanics Lien when I questioned their billing and craftmanship. The first day- the workers bailed mid-day and it was difficult to get them back in. They disabled the maglocks and security to the back gate in their work and never came back to finish the job. Many calls and emails resulted in no service and we had to get another vendor in to fix the damage and finish the job. They finally responded when I questioned their attempt to claim the rest of the balance of the estimated cost (even though they did not complete the job). Vincent (the owner threatened a Lien if payment was not received by the next day... 19 minutes later he sends an email that he filed it... My advice: DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THESE FOLKS. read more

First the guy shows up on the wrong day in the middle of our lunch hour (it's a restaurant), after being told that day was not good, and I would schedule with the office. Made appointments 3 days in a row after that, no one ever showed up. I have a commercial establishment with a broken spring in the front door gate, this isn't a casual thing. My understanding is that the guy was pissed he couldn't do the work when HE wanted to, so he chose to not come back. Grow up man. Every interaction on the phone feels like you're being given the run around. Now trying to get my $100 deposit back. I had to email my receipt because they said the receipt would not be in their system. What? It's at least encouraging that other reviewers did say their deposits were returned. read more

Worst company I ever dealt with! Bunch of scammers! I was quoted $2050 for a new motor for my rolling gate. I had also asked him about cellar doors and he told me not to go through the company but talk to the guy who was coming the next day to get a cheaper price....ummm not! I agreed to have the motor installed and the next day 2 guys showed up to install it. Half way through the installation one of the guys tells me that the key switch isn't working and it needs to be replaced. I told him that it was working but he kept insisting that the rolling gate wouldn't work with the key. I asked him what it would cost me for the key switch and tells me that it would be an additional $950, $3,000 total! I initially thought this guy is nuts and looked up how much the key switch would cost which by the way cost $65 on Amazon. I also called another company and he told me $350 with installation. So I go back to the guys and tell them I don't want the key switch and they tell me to call the office. At this point my key switch it dangling but still attached to wires. I took a pic to ask my electrician friend if he can install one. I get in my car and call the office and they tell me that $900 is labor lmao! I go back and the key switch is gone and so are all the wires that were coming down the pipe. I asked the guys what happened to my key switch and to all the wires and one guy tells me he put it in their truck and the other guy tells me that the wires where on top. I made the guy go get my key switch then the other guy who was still working on finishing up installing the motor comes down from the ladder and tells me to pay him the $2,050 in CASH! I told him the guy who gave me the estimate told me I could pay by check or credit card and that he needed to finish the job before I paid him anything. I make out a check and asked for a receipt. He refused to give me a receipt and proceeded to tell me the estimate guy was suppose to give me one. Apparently they give out receipts before you pay them. I told him that if he wasn't giving me a receipt I needed to take a pic of his copy. I had my original key switch tested by an electrician and guess what...it worked! There was nothing wrong with it! Also the wires were not on top because they had pulled them and had cut the wires to the 3 button switch inside. They were disgruntled because they didn't try to steal $950 from me so they tried to sabotage the job. If yelp allowed me to give negative stars I would. I hired city gates to do a job for me instead of following the drawings provided they did whatever they pleased. When the job was "completed" it was obvious that gate wasn't installed properly they refused to repair unless I paid an extra $1,200 for their mistakes! When I refused to pay any more money for their mistakes they decided to place a Lien on my job. The owner Vincent is oblivious as to what is going on his job sites, we tried to resolve everything as gentlemen but he refused. I strongly suggest never doing business with this poor excuse of a company. Not only were their installers rude they take no pride in their workmanship. When confronted to rectify the problems they removed the new gate which was installed and commenced legal action against us. Tied up in litigation for years with these folks. So yes! Our story is the same as all others, and I'm sure that the indubitable Vinny will respond to this by saying that we "got a full refund," so why should we complain? Because this company follows the same lunatic policy of sending out a reputable guy (in this case, a demonstrably sane and professional fellow named Sergio) who then sends you a credit card authorization form, quotes you an absurdly inflated figure (including $300 for parts that anyone can buy retail for $35 online, though CG claims they are "very hard to find) and then never follows up. I called a couple weeks later to find out what was going on and they said "Our guys are scheduled to come today!" Yeah, right. When the service guy finally showed up, he had no tools, parts or measurements that would allow him to do the job correctly. He seemed as frustrated as I was, but calls to Frankie (rude, incompetent) and Vinny (impossible to reach as he's always "just stepped out") didn't help resolve the matter. Ultimately we got a refund but it's clear that City Gates are scam artists and I will end by echoing what all the other reviews say: STAY FAR, FAR AWAY FROM CITY GATES!!!! Seriously. I am a business owner in Queens and have used City Gates USA for some time. Today in the pouring rain, our gate broke and I called City Gates right away...at approximately 1:00pm. I was told they were coming. At 2:00pm, I called back and was told they were coming. At 3:30pm, I called again to check in and was told they cannot come. Had I been told on my first phone call that they could not help me, I would have made other arrangements; I would have called another company. If I treated my customers like this, I'd be out of business. City Gates USA is unreliable and this kind of treatment is unacceptable! I am now stuck with open gates and my gate company will not help me. I will have to spend the night guarding my merchandise because my gates do not close.
