We have been coming here for years. Bought pendants and bracelets also promoted to family so they have been there buying custom jewelry. This last visit we made my daughter a name plate pendent. Sophia did not work with us and discouraged what we wanted from the start. She needed back up and brought her husband out from the back to discourage us from making what we wanted. It wasn't a crazy request they said it would look to busy. However we understood and they made the pendent. It came out nice but when my wife picked it up the husband came out of the back room and stated sarcastically "if she don't like it, it's on you". I will never come here again as well as my family. I believe in shopping local, family-owned businesses. My experience here was disappointing both for the quality in the chain I purchased and the attitude toward customer service. I selected a rope chain that cost nearly $300 for my daughters birthday Not a great price, but acceptable for a chain of quality instead of low price! Two weeks in, my daughter texted me saying that she lay down for a nap and woke up to the chain separated in half and that there was no tension or accident. I happened to be right by the store. I stopped in to speak with the daughter. Before I could even explain the father abruptly broke in that sales are final, he could repair it for $25. I wanted to discuss how it happened but he did not want to hear it. The daughter and I agreed I would bring the chain in and discuss. I believe that there was a flaw in the chain. I brought it back. The minute I walked in, the daughter was busy and I said I would wait. She said, "No, he will help you." I said "I'd prefer to wait for you." She once again said, "No, he will help you." I then let the owner know that I wanted to buy a gift for my daughter (I pointed to a $350-400 pendant I had come back for) and thst I wanted to order a Hawaiian bracelet for her upcoming graduation. I felt that the chain should not have broken and I wanted to discuss it. I wanted to discuss the chain and show him that the links were separated. He would not discuss it. Told me that it wasn't fair to him to expect him to replace it. He repeated it not being "fair to him" at least four times. He would repair for free and the repair would more than likely be visible. In the course of the discussion he told me that he has the big heavy chains come back broken in one day. His intent was to let me know that he takes the same approach with chains that cost thousands of dollars and break in one day because people lie to him about the cause. So here's the bottom line. I will pick up the chain next week. It may very well be that I take the chain elsewhere for salvage gold value and buy another chain elsewhere. The chain was snagging on clothing which is what caused it to separate. A piece of "fine jewelry" as he put it should not separate or snag clothing. While I was sitting there deciding what to do, I remembered that the earrings I purchased there years ago are also unwearable because the earring lever back stopped functioning on one of them shortly after purchase. I then decided to politely leave with the repair receipt and take all future purchases elsewhere. I trust my $280 "mistake" has saved me from making ones that cost me thousands of dollars in the future. Today, I looked online and learned that the prices at Na Hoku are as good or better. Today I will go to Na Hoku and buy the pendant for my daughters Christmas gift. I've never had a problem with the Na Hoku chain I purchased for myself 15 years ago that is 1/3 the diameter of my daughters. I will never purchase anything from this store again. I cannot trust the quality nor the attitude toward the customer. I will hope for the best with the chain repair, but based upon my experience so far, I'm not holding out much hope. read more

Sara F., who wrote a review below, is my Fiancee and future wife. Like she said, we had a wonderful experience at City Jewelry. It has a beautiful display area with a selection that is bar none. We were on vacation in Hawaii (on Oahu) for three weeks on our engagement trip and so we had time to stop in at City Jewelry on more then one occasion. We had looked a few places up ahead of time,but the owners/employees at City Jewelry and their selection more then earned our undivided attention. Before we had even arrived on the island, we had sent pictures of the designs for our rings that we were interested in to one of the owners (Scott) and he readily assisted us in its' custom creation. He gave us advice and insight that we would not have thought of (such as switching to a different metal type - white gold to platinum so that we would not have to worry about the white gold needing re-plating in years to come) and he readily welcomed any questions we had for him. Once we were on the island, it didn't take him long to finalize the product and have us come in, when it was convenient for us, to take a final look at them to make sure they were perfect. And yes, they were indeed the perfect ring triplets (my wedding band, her wedding band, and her engagement ring). He even managed to have them done before the Friday night fireworks at the Hilton (where I proposed to Sara, on a beach, while they were going off in the background). All in all, everything went smooth and well. It was an enjoyable, relaxed, and informative experience. And at the end of it all, I was so pleased that I also picked up a nice bracelet for my little sister as a souveneir from our trip. It was nicely designed with native Hawaiian flowers done in sterling silver and small accent diamonds. I highly recommend City Jewelry for anyone's jewelry needs. read more
