The second I walked into Uncommon Coffee Roasters, I was hit with the smell of fresh bread. It immediately took me back to my grandma's kitchen. She used to bake a loaf of bread just for me--with no nuts, because she knew that's how I liked it. Walking into her house, I always knew exactly what she was making. It's funny how a smell can transport you somewhere in an instant. Then I looked over at the bakery case. Mistake. Everything looked fresh, homemade, and absolutely beautiful. We had plans to spend the rest of the day walking around Saugatuck, so I talked myself out of buying a loaf... and regretted that decision before we were even back out the door. Despite the line stretching from the counter almost to the entrance, the staff handled it like absolute pros. Everyone behind the counter seemed completely in sync, moving quickly without making the experience feel rushed. Watching them work was almost entertaining in itself. The shop has a colorful, artsy personality that fits Saugatuck perfectly. It feels modern without losing that cozy small-town charm. Between the artwork, the cheerful cups (seriously... how cute are they?), and people scattered throughout reading, chatting, working on laptops, or simply enjoying their coffee, it felt like the kind of place you naturally want to linger. As for the coffee... We ordered three different drinks and somehow all landed on winners. My Don't Be Salty cold brew (cold brew with caramel and salted caramel cold foam) was phenomenal. Another in our group ordered the Caramel Silk latte, and judging by the smile after the first sip, I'd call that a success too. I honestly couldn't tell you what our third friend ordered... only that all three of us agreed we'd happily order our drinks again. Some coffee shops are just a quick caffeine stop. Uncommon Coffee Roasters feels like part of the Saugatuck experience. We'll absolutely be back... and next time, I'm buying the bread,

Bowerman's on 8th is a love letter to the humble blueberry, written in the language of warm lattes, fresh pastries, and shelves overflowing with jars that seem to bottle summer itself. As someone with a dairy allergy, coffee shops can sometimes feel like places built for everyone else. But here there was kindness in the details--different milk options, thoughtful choices, and the feeling that everyone should be able to enjoy a good cup of coffee. Traveling from out of state, this was one of the places I circled on my map, hoping reality would match the stories. Somehow, it was even better. The blueberry latte was the kind of drink that slows time. Bright and refreshing, sweet without trying too hard, tasting like a morning walk through a Michigan orchard after the rain. Around me were cases filled with treats and shelves stacked with jams, syrups, and every blueberry creation imaginable, each one carrying a little piece of the region's soul. There is something beautiful about a place that chooses one simple thing and perfects it. Bowerman's does not merely sell coffee--it celebrates harvests, local traditions, and the quiet joy of gathering around a table. You leave with a warm cup in your hands, a bag of blueberry treasures under your arm and a feeling of satisfaction. Some places are worth the drive. Some are worth the hype. Bowerman's on 8th is both.

I had fun looking around at all the things to buy -- lots of spreads, coffee, merch, blueberry things, kitchen items, stickers, etc. I loved that they had big bags of frozen blueberries for sale - next time I'll bring my cooler! I was heading to dinner so I didn't get any food, but their menu features sweet and savory breakfast options, lunch sandwiches, bowls and salads, soups, even dinner options like a burger. Everything sounded great so I'd love to come back for lunch. The pastry case was calling me, so I got one blueberry donut and a blueberry lemon donut to take home. They were fresh and lightly glazed. The lemon was my favorite. There is a seating area and this looks like a really nice place to enjoy an afternoon. I will hopefully be back soon!
