City Scooters is offering a great value by providing an easy to ride bike when taking the "M" class license road test, delivering it legally to the Chicago North DMV, and providing a warm up and instruction out behind the shop. Now I want to cover the real value. I am a 60-year-old beginner who recently took a two day motorcycle rider safety class in preparation for the road test. I'm not afraid to acknowledge that I am an over thinker, which sometimes results in a bit of anxiety. Marty and Carlos found a way to meet me where I was in terms of capability and mindset. Yes, they were great instructors. Yes, I passed the test. That is not what made my experience great. Marty and Carlos made it great by meeting me at a human level with caring and kindness until I was ready to go take the test. As always seems to be the case, the people make the difference. I highly recommend utilizing their service and working with these guys. You won't be disappointed. read more

My bike was picked up July 11, 2026. Didn't get it back until August 11. Bike was dead and had been sitting since 2018. Got a full tune up and clutch pack replaced. They didn't replace the 10 year old drive belt (extremely important!) Wasn't happy at all. Was told it "looked good" so wasn't replaced. If that belt snaps, rear tire could lock up while riding and could cause a crash, Never mind being stranded. Belt needs replacing every 3-4 years! Also needed two tires. They ordered 2 Michelins. When picking up my bike, the front was a Bridgestone and the rear was a Michelin. I was charged for 2 Michelins. Was told the Bridgestone was a "Bridgestone Michelin tire" and that the 2 tires were correct. There is no such thing as a "Bridgestone Michelin" tire. The mechanic didn't check tires before installation. Bike died 5 times between going home and driving it back to shop. battery was loose and the idle was way too low. Needed bike back quickly because it was going to be shipped to another state on August 13 or 15. New tire was in on Monday August 10 and wouldn't be done until Thursday August 13. Unacceptable. I had enough and picked the bike up August 11, got $65 back for the price difference of the front tire. Still have to get the drive belt replaced in the other State the bike is going to. Now I will be out more money for something that should have been done, as it's a safety issue. I simply don't recommend this shop because of extremely slow turnover and critical lack of awareness. Avoid City Scooter for warranty, maintenance and repair work. They have a BBB rating of "F" under their real name of OKI Motors. If you ignore my advice and use them for service, take a video with SOUND of the entire outside of your ride with the engine running so you have proof of condition! They charge a diagnostic fee NOT applicable to your final bill and want half the money up front. Prior to service, my Vino was so quiet, I had to take my helmet off to hear it running. When I brought it in for service, a customer asked what I was riding because "it was so quiet, I didn't hear it." He and Chris (desk guy) were joking they like loud bikes like Harleys. I said mine is quiet, like a Caddy and I like it that way. Brought Vino in 6/20/2023 for a sticky throttle. City Scooter said Vino needed new tires, and tacked on a $60 upcharge. Vino was "ready" July 6. Hubby picked up July 7. I started it, engine was beyond loud, like a chainsaw, NOT the quiet ride I dropped off. It had greasy fingerprints and liquid streaks all over. I found 4 large bolts and a washer under the seat. The steering column was out of alignment with the front fork. I brought it back July 13th to have the noise and alignment fixed, and handed over the 4 loose bolts. Desk guy's response? "Our bad." So after staff discussed how loud all scooters sound, I basically was called a liar for saying my Vino runs much louder than before "service." I say anyone who forgets to put parts back on a scooter can't be trusted to tell the truth. I was given nothing but excuses: the air filter might be bad (well, you guys put a new one in, so why not swap it out? Are your parts bad? Did you somehow miss another important step, like when Marty forgot to re-install 4 important bolts?); the engine noise was masked by the dirty air filter (too ridiculous to refute); "it might be the crankshaft" (why put NEW tires on my scooter and perform maintenance if that is what you thought?!!); "all bikes run that loud, we've heard worse" (wow, just... wow); "I'm not saying you're lying but" (another wow). I'd brought it back three times before they mentioned "crankshaft." 8/5 I call to speak to Jeff Wunderlich. "He's not available. I'll have him call you back." Jeff calls when I'm not home; has a heated convo with my hubby, who recorded him. Jeff kept insisting they didn't "touch the engine." You don't need to touch the engine to ruin it, you only need to drain the oil...but Jeff doesn't mention they did THAT, of course! An oil change is part of maintenance yet I didn't see an oil change on my bill. And the reason for that is someone drained the oil, then took my Vino for a ride, ruining my scooter's crankshaft bearings. Oki then tried every tactic possible to not let me guess what actually happened. Like the air box would make the Vino run loud. My scooter was so filthy because engine oil sprayed all over it. City Scooters/OKI charged me $1458. I asked for a refund of labor charges. I know Jeff Wunderlich, I used to board his dog Sparticus and he wouldn't admit his dope-smoking employees made a mistake nor refund me one cent. City Scooter said they didn't run the engine before servicing, so how could they tell if it was louder? (Who doesn't start up a bike first before starting to work on it?) What I got from Marty's "work" on my ride: a Vino paperweight. I took it to a real motorcycle repair shop; EPM said the only way the crankshaft bearings could go bad were if the scooter was run without enough oil in it. They said riding any longer would cause engine failure and my Vino was no longer safe to ride. City Scooter deserves ZERO stars for killing my beloved 18-year-old Vino. read more

We were charged almost 200 dollars for pick up and diagnosis and no work was done. It took them over a week to respond to us and give us that ridiculous over priced estimate. A refund was requested and it was denied. I took the scooter elsewhere and total of services was less than half the price. Reviews will continue to be posted since I do care for others. I am the one that always read reviews before making decisions. So I am writing this to help you make your decision as to where to go buy a scooter. Bought a new scooter here that had trouble starting within a year. They wanted to charge $150 to come and get it. When I asked to speak to a manager the young lady got irate and said I didn't trust her word because she is a female. I am a female. When I could not find anyone else to work on that model I was going to go ahead with it. But they wanted to also charge approximately $180 for the diagnostic and the $180 would NOT go towards repairs. The guys who work here are friendly but do NOT stand by their products.​ read more

I found out about this place while looking through reviews on Yelp, so after my experience I decided to add to the pile since it's well deserved. My first contact with them was by phone, regarding instruction for passing the M test at the DMV. Eric is the one to speak with for the low down. after a few initial questions about my skill level, he was able to get a picture of what training I needed and if what he does will work for me. Turns out it was a match. I explained that I failed the test on my first go around. I further went on to explain I've driven my bike around the neighborhood and on rental scooters in Mexico. So like many, he knew my problem was hearing the word "test" which he assured me is normal, and that he could get me past this, he told me I wasn't any different than most, and he was a good teacher. I like confidence in a person, so I was in and set up my appointment. They're on the NW side of the city, not to far from the DMV on Elston, for those not to familiar with the city across from the original Superdawg, which is in my heart the one and only. The location allows them to bring you the bike when you're ready to test. I was greeted by Eric when I arrived, couldn't have been any nicer. We did some paperwork as we went over the process. He immediately set out to put me at ease, which wasn't an easy task. Another person was in the shop helping a lady select a bike. I was listening to their conversation, to get a feel for the place. He was helpful, informative and not pushy. If you're looking, I'd say stop in. The training is held in back of the shop, in the alley. Eric has cones and the pavement marked up to mimic the test. It's about the test remember this. I did take a course last fall that had me circling a parking lot for hours, in the summer heat, I also had a summer cold or something. I was feverish and congested. I was also dehydrated and then irritable because I was just going in circles. They told you to break anytime you wanted but you had to bring your own water, etc. Not here, Eric made sure to not let me get dehydrated, he explained it was important to concentration, and if you feel thirsty you're a half hour too late. He brought out water and iced tea. Being a warm sunny day, he also had me remove my helmet and stand in the shade to take a break here and there. Military training on concentration, focus, and avoiding danger. We ran through the course, over and over. He'll tell you how to correct your mistakes, he'll read your body language and give you tips on relaxing. More of it is what's going on in your head, you're decision making is going to keep you out of trouble. This was one on one instruction that is invaluable, because it went beyond the bike. I can honestly say it made my a better driver on four wheels too. Once you're ready you go to the DMV, do all that paperwork and get your number. When it's called to go to the counter, you text Eric and he'll or someone from the shop will come down with the bike. The timing works, when I walked out of the building Eric was there to hand me the bike to go to the test lane. He was also there at the end to congratulate me when it was over and I passed. My test, I did blow the 90 degree turn that was my nemesis the last time. Only this time, I was calm about it and managed the rest of the test because I was mentally prepared for it, I kept calm and carried on as they say. The last instruction I received didn't prepare me properly, this made all the difference. This and a good person at the DMV, that said, you still can get this, just continue on. Time to update my DMV review. I'm glad I found him, wish I did sooner, but all is good in the end. I bought a scooter with my mother-in-law 2 years ago from them and had a pleasant experience, which is why I'm shocked when I brought in my scooter for repairs it turned out to be a whole different story. The scooter is plastic which I get it's not meant to withstand any collision. I had the scooter only for a few months prior and only road it a few times. Mind you everything else was working fine only the body was damaged I barely hit the car. I finally called to see if they can pick it up and repair it and the call itself was a little strange. My boyfriend was going to be the one home to give him the keys so I gave him his info . As I told him my boyfriend's name(Juan) he responds Juan ? Oh that's okay I married to a margarita. And I gave him my last name and he went huh . Thought that was weird. I paid almost $200 just for them to pick it up and give me a quote. A week goes by no response I left a voicemail to check the status of it and didn't get a call back but an email of the estimate the very next day. An invoice for over $1,000! I was surprised since I would think the scooter was plastic and cheap to be honest it wouldn't be that expensive to replace I understand the labor as well but it didn't add up and their was a few random charges as well that didn't make sense. My mother-in-law who help me with this purchase wrote them an email simply asking if they can revise the invoice and expressed her loyalty since she purchased a scooter from them as well we got different estimates from other places for literally half of what they where charging. I get a call from Norm being very condescending telling me my mother-in-law left them a nasty email and instead of trying to revise the invoice he proceeds to tell me it wouldn't hurt their feels and take it somewhere else! Very rude. I picked up my scooter the very next day and brought it to a different mechanic. My mother-in-law requested if we can get refunded the $175 I spent for them to give me that bogus quote .They emailed her back practically telling her she's not the customer (even though she paid with her card) and the matter is done. I'm attaching the invoice they sent me and a different mechanics for comparison and the "nasty" email my mother-in-law sent. Alright, where to begin. let's start off a great staff. I walk in, was greeted with respect, and well they all showed a lot of enthusiasm in their line of work. Jeremy was the man who helped me get my bike signed in to get spring maintenance, they offer a much better deal for spring maintenance than any other place i have seen. All other places were asking for like 200 bucks to get the spring maintenance treatment, these guys gave a reasonable price. I was skeptical at first, but no way am i planning on getting ripped off. At any rate, Met Jeremy and the guy was pretty damn cool. He knew his stuff, helped me understand what else was going on with my scooter, and basically asked about everything to get approval, as i am a bit cheap, but i appreciated it for sure. Overall I got my scooter back within 24hours practically, and well let's just say i didnt know that scooter can sound so beautiful and has so much more ummph in it. They fixed up a lot of the body work on my scooter, I didn't even ask them to do that, and i am super appreciative of that. I had to get a choke bypass fixed on my bike, and they gave me a quote of what their suppliers offered, and i told them to hold off so i can check on ebay, and well sure enough i found a cheaper one on ebay, and turned them down on ordering one. I was scared they weren't gonna be happy, but they were cool with me wanting to get to know my bike a bit more intimately, it will be the first time i get to do any service on my bike, but i should learn how to maintain it sooner or later. At any rate, they even told me where this choke bypass starter was located at, and how to replace it.. so when i get the part from ebay, i can just open her up and replace it.. the greatest thing is, they were not hesitant to lend a helping hand. Overall a pleasure to do business with, and I'll be coming here on a yearly basis. My bike runs beautifully and doesnt have any problems at all (once i put that choke starter thing, it will be working as good as new) they love their scooters and their hobbies. so I would definitely highly recommend them. (be aware this is not related to the other place at wells, with similar name) Forgot to mention, i have a Honda Elite CH 80, I don't think they mind what brand of scooters you bring in, they just need to be able to buy the parts if needed (so for those chinese brands, you may need to locate a part for them) but honda's have a good network, so are some taiwanese companies, and even some chinese companies are doing better too. I forgot to mentioned how great the staff was, they also scooted me to foster so I can go grab a bus back home. now that's what i call great service. read more

The guy told me over the phone that they service Roketa scooters and I brought it all the way there to be flatly refused any kind of help. It has problems starting and thank God I was lucky enough to get it started to drive it back home. You have a repair shop and you pick and choose what you service or not? What kind of business is this? I can understand if they don't want to repair it but not to even look at what's causing the issue is another thing. I believe they should rethink their business model and look up the meaning of repeat customers. Hint: see below. Any customer that returns for more is known as a repeat customer, and it is often said that it is five to ten times cheaper to keep a customer than to get a new one. Walked into City Scooters with a pretty good idea of what I wanted in mind. I was greeted by Josh after a few minutes of looking around. He is the youngest guy at the shop, extremely knowledgable, and super helpful. 100% not pushy, and was able to answer all of my questions. I took the tomos sprint moped for a short test ride, decided I had to have it, and he took care of the paperwork in less than 15 minutes. Once I payed he even rode with me over to the gas station to show me how to mix the right amount of gas to oil. 100 mile free check up, 300 mile free checkup, free oil change, and a free rental with the purchase as well. read more

took my scooter in for service knowing it needed a tune up and a few other components. paid the diagnostic charge and agreed to the repairs About $700. picked up the scooter but due to weather it sat in the garage for about a month. I come to ride it on the weekend and hear a wheel bearing grinding noise from the front end. I give them a call if they can check it out and my warranty on parts has been expired. Now they want me to pay another $100 to check again the work that they just performed. they need to work on the warranty that that knowing very well that due to climate most drivers can't always test drive the bikes when they pick them up. read more

Went to a shop to get a chain link removed. My chain was a little saggy and my adjusters wouldn't do anything more for me. The shop i stopped in at didn't even have a tool for chains, said they only had belt driven scooters. So i rode a few extra miles out to city scooters. They took my bike in back and fixed me up easy. When i tried to pay them they refused. I didn't even buy my bike there and they have been the most help to me keeping it going smooth and fast. ****** I'd give them six stars if i could. read more

I brought my 70's era Garelli Moped into City Scooters for a tune up. I was having a hard time starting it and it wouldn't idle. The engine would quit at every red light. I left it at City Scooters and some other problem developed while the moped was in their care. The moped was there for longer than I expected while they fixed this additional problem. This was initially very frustrating, but I soon realized that Terry and Mike really did have my best interests at heart and were going out of their way so that I came with the best situation possible. I would have been happy with the simple tune up that I came in for, but because of the additional time the Ped was there, Terry and Mike did (pro bono) all sorts of additional work and my OLD vintage Moped now runs smoother, cleaner and faster than the contemporary models of it's kind. After my experience here I would not trust them to fix roller skates. I brought in a bike I bought for my son to have them get it running, after repairs cost is not important, their prices are fine. But they omitted Parts change the configuration without any notice to me whatsoever, and then try to tell me a story to cover it up. There's no trust here anymore the customer service at the beginning was great and at the end I felt like a piece of crap. I wouldn't recommend them to anybody and it's a shame I like neighborhood businesses. read more

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! I recently had my scooter "repaired" here and was not satisfied with the quality of work done. The same day I picked up my scooter, the mirror they replaced and "installed" fell off. The price for parts and labor was wholly inappropriate for the quality of work done. The mirrors themselves were of a poor quality and their "repair" was basically a band-aid. This particular "repair" was listed on my invoice as costing almost $150 for parts and labor. The mirrors themselves couldn't have been more than $10 and I could've used tape to surpass the "repair" job they did. Further, I've called several times seeking restitution and have not received a call back yet. It's been almost 4 weeks since I've picked up my scooter and NOTHING. STAY AWAY. Let's see what happens now. Update 8/5: finally spoke to someone (Jeff, the owner!!) and he refused to discuss the poor work instead trying to blame me for why the "repairs" didn't take. He was condescending and wouldn't stand by their work instead only choosing to talk down to me. In the end, he told me never to call again and refused to refund any of the almost $600 worth of work they did. I even tried to just discuss the $74 worth of work for the mirrors but he wouldn't have it. When I said I'd report him to the city and BBB if we didn't receive any restitution he said "go ahead" and hung up on me. When I called back him demanded I never call again and hung up on me AGAIN! Needless to say, my wife and I have reported them. read more

Went to City Scooters to get repair work done after a windstorm had blown my scooter over. Faithfully, I told them that I wanted them to do all of the repair work that needed to be done and that is was going to be put in as a claim to my insurance. They wanted to charge me a non refundable $200.00 for an estimate of the minor repair work. This place will not work with you on repairs without a fraudulent diagnostic/estimate of at least $65.00. Do not even waste your time at this place. I bought my scooter at City Scooters and have had all my repair work done for the past 11 years. Unfortunately, I have never experienced such a lack of customer service in my life. read more

City Scooters was always where I would go if I had a problem with my scooter because of the customer service I would recieve when I got there until recently when I walked in and Jeremy the guy that up untill recently I thought owned the place since he was the only 1 there and he would work the front of the shop and be the mechanic on the back but lets not get to over-the-top I did get service with some lady at the front desk but she basically had no idea what she was talking about and neither did some other guy she called upon for help I eventually got the part I requested after basically drawing a picture for them but after this incident I have been looking for a new place to service my mopeds. read more

I'm very torn on what I should actually give city scooters. While they have a good selection of scooters for arguably the best prices around, their staff is hit and miss at best. One day my fiance and I went in and it was great, got what we were looking for with very little hassle, when she went back though they were very rude and, even though she was a first time rider, barely helped her with our new bike. When we needed it serviced they were fast, but once again, sometimes extremely rude. Wouldn't probably go back, but its not a bad shop. read more

I love City Scooters! As a first time moped rider and buyer, I was sooo at ease of the super friendly, not-pushy staff. Not only did they let my husband and I test drive the scooters (which I am told no other shop allows you to do), but instruction from Eric was fantastic. About a week ago, we came into the shop and perused the bikes. The staff gave us great advice and actually welcomed us to go over to competitors and compare/contrast so that we have a great feel for everything. I love the fact that they weren't pushing their own products/vehicles down our throats - they're just a bunch of enthusiastic dudes who want to honestly help you out. I actually ended up surprising my husband by purchasing a Tomos LX moped today and not only did Shawn quickly handle the paperwork, but the all the guys assisted in anything I asked about. These are good people: honest, knowledgeable, friendly, kind, helpful. They do the right thing, not the easy thing. They skillfully and quickly repaired my moped. They were generous with their time, staff, and attention. I have visited many a niche interest shop, and it is easy to feel like you are annoying everyone with how little you know about the subject of their expertise. That is NOT how I felt here. Everyone took the time to explain what they were doing, why, and how I could prevent future problems in terms I could understand. This is a fantastic place with fantastic people doing fantastic work. If you would like to read what my whole experience it is below. I came to them with my older moped which had recently stopped running. They diagnosed it accurately with a seized piston. They took every reasonable effort to quickly repair the engine with no success. They then disassembled the piston assembly, cleaned the parts, ensured that no systemic damage had occurred, and reassembled the piston. The did not stop there; they took the additional time and energy to diagnose the underlying cause which was a rusted tank. They spent several hours cleaning the tank, by flushing it, soaking it, and doing everything possible to return the tank to a clean condition. I now have a working moped that I can easily maintain and enjoy. read more

I bought a scooter in 2010, and never received the title because they did not have the address correct on their files and submitted the wrong information to the DMV. The scooter was stolen and when I went to them to get a replacement title for insurance purposes, I filled out their paperwork and they said no problem, we will take this to the DMV and have them send another title. That was over a month ago and now, I find out that the replacement title costs $90 and they wont pay the fee. It also took me 3 calls to the manager Eric to get him to call me back. First of all - I never got the title because they completed paperwork incorrectly and sent the wrong information to the DMV Secondly - I shouldn't have to pay a fee for their mistake Thirdly - It took them over a month to tell me about the fee - after I had to chase them down to find out why I had not received the title. Now I have to go into the DMV (which I should have done over a month ago instead of going to this place) and fill out the same form again and wait another 3-4 weeks for the title. I get my Moped serviced here and the staff and work they do is phenomenal! Super friendly and knowledgeable!

Torn about what to give them as well, but unfortunately I would not return. Ownership and management lack basic customer service skills, ironically though, they have a volunteer staffer that rocks. Thanks for trying to make things right Mr. Eric. :) Here's why I gave them 'one' star... After ample research I decided to buy a 1995 Tomos Targa LX and was eager to have City Scooters service my moped. They are the only Tomos dealer in Chicago so I assumed they would make my moped sing! This was my 'one star' experience: 1) My initial call to shop after dropping off was to actually increase the amount of parts I wanted to order. Despite wanting to simply spend more money... No call back. 2) Phoned again to inquire about the status of my moped a few days later as they clearly weren't calling me like they said they would. Left a message... No call back. Tried to catch them again before close of business that same day... No call back. 3) Finally got in touch with the shop almost a week later and was told my moped was ready. Got to the shop the next day and they were still working on it. Not sure what they meant when they it was "ready". Lol 4) The parts I did order were installed despite my request to install them myself, but I wasn't charged for the installation. I appreciated the gesture though I was eager to install them at home as they were basic parts. 5) Got home from my 30 minute commute after picking up the moped and called them immediately. The moped ran worse after they serviced it. Also, I paid for them to fix my left turn signal, was charged for the labor, but they didn't actually fix it. 6) Lastly, over a week went by and no return call. Called again, left another message, and finally 10 days after I picked my moped up someone was available to talk. Immediately, the gentleman/owner started making excuses suggesting that it was such an old moped. He didn't actually listen to me and had his volunteer staffer call me the next day. I was NOT some screaming or unreasonable lunatic, though i was a bit frustrated by that point. I just want a partially refund for their poor services and the uncorrected left turn signal that I paid to have fixed but still doesn't work. My bike still needs work so I hoped that a partial refund would help cover the costs to have it serviced in a professional shop where folks care about the services they provide such as Ace (see their awesome reviews). Sadly, a 'one' star run business. Judging by reviews seems a nice spot to rent a scooter, but beware if making purchases. They are eager to take your money but, in my experience, clearly don't care about quality of their services. read more
