Bought a battery for a 2019 Genuine Buddy here two months back. The service guys were great and made sure they had my battery charged before selling to me. Rather poor customer service. Came in to buy a Vespa Primavera 150 in cash - Sales person did not seem interested in selling at all. All I heard was "I guess I can squeeze you in between customers" - mind you the store was empty.. Also, you can't test drive a vehicle you are about to buy. Dealt with Joe. Hands down the best customer service experience I've had in such a long time. My Vespa wouldn't start and I called ahead for the part I needed. It was in stock and was told it would be waiting for me at his desk but to get there by 5pm as they were closing. Got there at 4:50... rushed after work and the part was right there waiting for me. Joe was incredibly friendly, honest and knowledgeable. He stayed later than 5pm to explain to me all the things I needed to do to get the Vespa started. I didn't even ask, he just volunteered and good thing he did. Because of him I didn't give up after the first try of getting the Vespa started as he stressed. And low and behold he was right. It took a little while but now the Vespa is up and running flawlessly. He is a wealth of knowledge and clearly knows the ins and outs of Vespas and was happy to share without judgement. And I was happy that the part I got was genuine Vespa and not some knockoff aftermarket part like they sell on amazon. I will happily buy my future Vespas from Joe as I know they would be from good hands... oh and as for the honest part as I mentioned before. I stopped in to Downers Grove Vespa to get a peek at the new Vespas for this season, and was amazed at how I was treated. They let me walk into the back of the store to check out the awesome new 2015 Premivera, and I was able to talk with the mechanics and other folks that worked there about the Vespa. Everyone was very friendly and the sales people were not pushy at all. In fact, the mechanic was the one who really sold me on it due to his knowledge and expertise and love of the brand. I must have hung out there for about half an hour just checking things out and chatting with people, and not once did I feel any pressure. I do not have my cycle endorsement yet, so I did not buy that day - but as soon as I am legal I will be returning to Downers Grove Vespa to procure my new Premivera, even though I have another Vespa dealer much closer to my home. The prices at DG Vespa are reasonable, the service folks are knowledgeable and friendly, and it's just a comfortable place to learn more about the product you're interested in. They have a great inventory too. Other dealers I've visited just have a handfull of Vespas off to the side and they aren't interested in talking to you if you're looking at one. This place is all about scooters and they have lots of great advice for someone interested in buying one. Be sure to stop in and chat up anyone in the shop and you will know what I mean! read more

Well... Stood there 20 minutes. Sat on 2 or 3 scoots ... Finally the guy has a minute break from another customer... And nearly went for a cigarette but decided he could answer a few "quick questions". I said... " interested in a Vespa can I take one for test drive?" Answer? No. Ummmm No? Says it's his insurance company not him.. Then he said all dealers are like that. really? So I called another dealer in Chicago and you know what? I made an appointment to test a few different Vespa's next Saturday. For the record I have an "M" class license and ride a Harley heritage. No business from me for this dealership and when I buy my Vespa no service business from me either. read more

Very disappointing experience at this store. Came in to inquire about a Fly 150 Piaggio scooter and they told me that there are some in the back. So I browse around in the back and an overweight gentleman with a white beard yells at me "Can I help you?" I explain what I'm looking for, and rather than help me find what I'm looking for he says "The scooter you're looking at is sold" and then walks away from me. Very rude and condescending and unhelpful to the nth degree. Overall felt unwelcome here and would advise shopping elsewhere. Too bad for them because I am about to make a purchase on a scooter and was considering their shop. Have decided to take my business to Windy City Triumph in St. Charles where I had a superb experience. read more

I recently purchased two scooters from Vespa Downers Grove. Even though there had been an error in the order (not the fault of this dealership), they did everything to accommodate me and make it right. The owner, sales, and service staff were all very knowledgeable about the history of the brands and the operation of the scooters. There were many models and colors from which to choose. They were patient and attentive and willing to allow additional time to schedule my delivery. They helped to set up a service to deliver the scooters since I live far away and would have to make multiple trips. I currently own a motorcycle and it was helpful to have the one on one walk through of the features on the Vespa and Piaggio. This was one of the best experiences I have had with vehicle purchases. Maybe it's just that dealers of motorcycles and scooters are nicer with a better sense of humor than car dealers. :-) read more

I seen a T.V. show that feature the Piaggio, scooter. I liked the design of the two wheels in front. The man inclosed the Piaggio scooter into a one of a kind design. He used the Piaggio because of the unique two wheel suspension. He mentioned that the Piaggio scooters cost about $9000.00. I did not find anymore information about until I stumbled upon a internet ad from Vespa Downers Grove, 2101Ogden Ave. Downers Grove, Il. 60515 for a Piaggio, Model, M3250. It listed one for $4000.??. That was stated that they were brand new but 2009 built. It also stated that is was the last of 10 acquired. I stopped in. The Salesman told me that 10 units were found in a warehouse untouched. I inspected it. It was not prepped to be ridden. I like it and purchased it in Oct 1993. I was not prepared to take delivery. He said that he would store it until my next trip in Nov. The head service man Bob asked me to call ahead. He needed to prep the battery. I asked him not to. I have a cycle battery already to use. I will bring it when I come to pick it up. Nov. I drove in my Pick-up ( I live 100 miles away). I also live in Indiana so I did not have a license plate. The Bob prep the scooter with my battery. I took it out for a test drive. Bob gave me the shop's dealer license plate to use for the test drive. After the test drive we loaded it on my truck. The service even loaned me two tie-down traps (a lime green and a light purple) to help secure the scooter. I off loaded it the next day. I only had a chance to drive it around the block a couple of times. Two days later I mailed the straps back with thank you note. The scooter sat in my garage until mid March. I needed to inflate one front tire. Over several weeks it needed to be inflated. I called to find out how to remove the tire. I needed a metric allen wrench. The leak was at the rim. The next time I was in the area. I brought the tire in for service. At first the serviceman Bob told me it was my responsibility to have it fixed. Not knowing if it was a defective rim or tire. I stated it should be covered by the one year warranty. He agreed and checked it. He said that the tire needed rotating and a sealer. Oct of 2014. I was riding about 20 miles from my house. All of a sudden a red warning light came on. The front suspension felt different. I parked in a parking lot. The front suspension would not lock up. I turned off the ignition switch. When I turned it on. Everything worked Ok. The suppression locked up correctly. I completed my trip out. Upon my travel back home about 2 miles from the start. The red light came back on. Again the suspension felt funny. I stopped and read the manual. It stated the red light indicated a suspension problem. No correction. This time resetting the ignition switch did not reset the red light. I was able to ride back home. The computer restricted me to 20 MPH. I called the serviceman Bob. Bob stated that it sounded like the computer board failed. I loaded the scooter on my pickup. I dropped it off for service. Bob started the scooter. He told me that the red light indicated that the suspension stability failed. He advanced the throttle. The engine accelerated. Bob told me that there is a safety inhibit in the seat. If no one is sitting on the seat. The engine will not accelerate. It will sputter. Then he hooked up a reader to the computer interface. It read errors. A week later the Bob called. He stated that the battery was to small and was dead. That caused the problem. The battery needed charging. The service charge is $90.00. I drove back. I tested drove the scooter. This time the serviceman Joe would not let me use the dealer plate. I do not need a license plate for scooter in Indiana. I test drove the scooter Ok. Back in the shop I questioned the charge and problem. Both servicemen got hostel. I loaded the scooter and drove home. Everything worked good. Then I noticed that the display is in Metric and not Decimal. That could only be set via a computer interface. This means that they had to replace the computer as first deduced. This is what really jacked my jaws. The winter of 2013 to 2014 was the coldest in many, many years. Before I placed the scooter in storage for the 2014 to 2015 winter. Something in the back of my brain told me to check the water cooling system. The cooling was 100% water. They removed all the antifreeze. read more

In mid May 2014, I purchased a used 2005 Piaggio Typhoon 50 with a ZX bore kit that upgrades to 70cc from Vespa Downers Grove . The after market kit was installed by the previous private owner. When I tried the bike at the dealer, and for the 1st few days after bringing it home, it started and ran great. But then after about 5 days or so, I had difficulty starting the bike. As time went on, it got worse and I found myself stranded 3 or more times, having to call people to come and pick me up because I couldn't start it at all. It became a pain in the *#%. After speaking with the owner Vince, and Joe and Bob in the tech/service department, I brought the bike back on 7/1/14 so they could look at it. Keep in mind, I knowingly purchased the used bike in "as is" condition. Vince offered to try and fix it, or even buy it back if the repair was not successful. Let me tell you that these guys went above and beyond to try and make things right. They replaced the manual choke/enhancer (that I broke when struggling to start it), the spark plug. the starter switch, and re-jetted a portion of the carb.......all free of charge. Joe in the tech department was amazing to deal with. Very friendly and knowledgeable, and went out of his way to explain step by step, what they were trying to do to fix the bike. I've never met a more genuine, personable guy in a service department anywhere...ever. The bike is now running great with no problems at all. My next scooter or motorcycle will be purchased from Vespa Downers Grove ( I'll probably get a new one though). These guys are honest and easy going, and I couldn't be happier with the way they handled this. If you buy from them, I can't imagine that you'd ever be disappointed in any way, given the way they dealt with me. read more

Went in to check out a motorcycle they have had sitting on the floor for over a year. Guy comes up and tells me a little about it but quickly says I need to talk to a sales guy. So after sitting on the bike and inspecting it for a while a sales guy comes up and admits the bike has never even been hooked up to the battery. Apparently they cannot get insurance to cover a test ride. I wonder who would buy a motorcycle that you can't even test ride? The general atmosphere was that they really didn't want to go out of their way to sell a bike. No real knowledge about the bike or the manufacture was evident. Sales guy didn't know any of the specs of the bike or even the price. Cannot see how they stay in business. read more
