THIS IS THE WORST BUSINESS I'VE EVER DEALT WITH IN MY ENTIRE LIFE. I stopped by a month ago on a Tuesday to get an estimate on some screens that I needed put in my sun porch. Gary the owner took down all my information and said they were going to come out to measure that same week on Thursday. No one called nor showed up. I called the next week and they said the lost my information. Took down everything again and said someone was gonna come out and no one did. I called again and they finally sent someone to measure. After that I waited a few days and never received the estimate. I called back and they said the guy that came to Easter had them at home and if they weren't able to get them from him they would come out to remeasure. The next day they never called to say he brought the measurements and no one came back out. Fast forward to today and I called again and the owner Gary said he didn't have time and he would come by. He showed up an hour after he said he would no call and just knocked on the door. I was in the garage working and missed him at the door. I don't know how they are still even in business over there but they have terrible customer service. Unfortunately, this is the only place in the Chicago area that builds screens. Screen kits won't work because mine are too big and now I have to use an online company with $300 shipping costs. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY THEY ARE THE WORST!!!!!! read more

Excellent Service. Good screen work, nice people. A new screen was installed on our balcony screen door and it now looks nice and easily glides open and closed. And it helps that their work includes Chicago downtown, so they know that these buildings have entry rules. I had some special and unusual requests and both the father and son were willing to make extra trips to my home in order to make everything perfect. Also, the price is right. City Screen did a great job replicating a 5-foot tall by 30-inch wide door screen. Originally I requested my original screen be repaired and a cross brace added for durability. It ended up being less expensive to constructing a new screen. The replacement screen fits nicely and the work was done in about 4 days. I definitely recommend City Screen and will use them again. read more

These guys are scammers and elder abusers. They take screens away without giving a price estimate, then charge exorbitant prices when they bring the screens back months later. Then they harass the elderly with false invoices for years afterward. When my elderly father's screens were taken by a City Screens employee, my father never received an estimated price. So he looked them up online for contact information, and he discovered terrible reviews in which people described not being able to get their screens back until they paid exorbitant prices, because they weren't given estimates (just like my father). So my father was too afraid to call the company back. As a result, his screens were gone for months and he had no idea what he would be charged for their repair. When the same man returned with the repaired screens months later, my father waited until the man put the screens back on the windows to discuss the bill he was seeing for the very first time. My father refused to pay the very high price and tried to negotiate it lower. The man claimed his company had sent my father an estimate long ago, so he was unwilling to negotiate the price that day. Ultimately, my father paid the man a little less than the full invoice demanded, a sum that my father considered a fair market rate. My father had never been given the estimated price on the first visit to choose whether or not to hire the company at all, so he was unwilling to pay an unfairly high price. The man was quite annoyed. A few minutes after he departed, he emailed my father ANOTHER bill--but this time, the numbers were gibberish. It didn't reflect the amount my father had paid and the remainder the man believed he was owed; the numbers were completely unrelated to the price of the original invoice nor the amount my father had decided to pay. It looked like it was written with imaginary sums. I saw it, too, and it was quite bizarre. I've never seen anything like it before. Also, the fact that my father RECEIVED that email minutes after the man's departure PROVES that the company never sent my father any previous communications as the man had claimed. I searched my father's extensive spam folder and found no previous messages from City Screens. Besides, their current email had appeared in my father's inbox, so earlier emails definitely never got lost in the spam folder; they were never sent to my father in the first place. The man was lying about sending my father an estimate before he brought the screens back. Since that day, my father has continued to receive bills and past-due notices in the mail from City Screens. A year later, the bills keep coming. At this point, it's become elder abuse: the company is trying to intimidate my father by threatening to send him to collections. My father had to consult a lawyer to confirm his consumer rights. The lawyer affirms that my father was within his rights to refuse to pay a portion of the original exorbitant bill. Why? Because the screens were taken away from my father without giving him an estimated repair price to choose or refuse. This company does VERY bad business. Stay away! read more

I had a really hard time finding a company to put new screens in my windows (there were absolutely no screens in the windows). Handymen never responded to my inquiries. Another company came out and sent me an estimate weeks later at a price that shocked me. Window companies told me I had to do the measurements myself and order them and if I ordered wrong there would be no refunds. These guys got back to me within 24 hours and came out to measure. I had an estimate a few days later. After that was some confusion as I indicated I wanted to go with them on the work, but I didn't hear anything back until I got a phone call about two weeks later saying the screens were in. They came and installed the screens the next day. The estimate was $150 less than the other company I got an estimate from. Overall, it was worth it for the piece of mind of having a professional do the measuring and installing. I'd work with City Screens in the future. read more

Since then they have had to reconstruct the Frame & Screen multiple times. We were looking for someone who could replace the screen in our door. We found this company through a referral from an employee at Home Depot. We dropped off the screen on Thursday and picked it up on Tuesday. Excellent job They even fixed the wheels on the door so I could adjust it. It fits perfect and the screening was top notch. They were friendly, helpful, timely, and, the price was reasonable. Parking out front. This is the best the door has looked and fit in six years. Screen door looks great, and they went the extra mile and installed it for us when we had only asked for it to be delivered. Also gave us a bottle of silicone spray to keep the door sliding properly. Would definitely work with City Screen again! read more

i needed a screen made for a window and they were responsive. to measure was free to come install was $95. they came and went and then nothing. i waited a week, then another week and i finally called at end of week two. yes my screen was ready and they would come install it. set a day and time and the hour window came and went. i called and was told the installers were looking for parking. while they were there i had them measure two more windows. i waited a week then another week and again at end of week two i called only to find out that yes my screen was ready. we set a day and time for install. again the hour window came and went and i waited an extra half hour. i called and was told the guys missed my stop. i asked when i could get it done as i had to leave by 2pm that day. he wanted to reschedule and i said that was unacceptable. he said he could come by about 3-3:30 and i agreed. about an hour later he said he could come by in 20 minutes and i thought that was awesome. screens are great cost of them is really high and install fee is kinda high. don't think i'll use them again. read more

When originally got the quote, they said it would be a week until it was done. Two weeks passed and no call. I had to call them for them to tell me it was done. I had to call back again to pay. I had to call back again to schedule a time for them to install. The install crew of two showed up over 30 minutes late with no call saying where they were. I had to call and figure it out. There seems to be a trend here... Got a quote for around $200, ended up costing over $300. They wouldn't install unless I paid and they had my screen door so I paid it. They also said a can of silicone spray lubricant was included and they'd bring it at time of install. I had to ask for it. They said they didn't have it and if there is a hardware store nearby. There is one two blocks away and it took them nearly 1 hour to get it. I'm guessing they took a lunch break then brought it back? This is all after being over 30 minutes late in the first place. No urgency whatsoever and no respect for other their customers' time. I was late back to work because of all of this. read more

After a few conversations with the owner and his wife, their son is eventually came by and took measurements, told me he would email me a quote later that day. Well long story short, after weeks of calls to the company and excuses from their owner, I still have no quote. They just brush you off with a "we will look into it." If you want a screen installed before the end of the summer, I wouldn't waste your time calling to get a quote here. They came out to measure and I was told they would come back to install in 2-3 weeks. I can't get a hold of them now. I've called and emailed with no response and any time I get someone on the phone they say they will call back and never do. How disappointing. I decided I should give this place a try based on their reviews and I was greatly mistaken. Now, where to begin..... I called towards the end of May to make an appointment to have an estimate done to have screen doors put on our french doors in our 10 unit condo building. I asked for 2 estimates: 1) To have just my unit done, 2) To have all units done (perhaps if all 10 of us wanted to have it done they might cut us a group deal). We made the appointment, they came out, they were professional and polite to my partner, and then said they would send me an estimate via email the next day. I called 3 days later as I had not heard anything back from them. They informed me they needed a few extra days as it was going to be a custom job, and more labor intensive. I said no problem. I called a week later, they apologized and said they were sorry and that I would have it by the end of the day. I again did not hear back from them. At this point, I am begging them for my business and I am pissed. I called June 26th the day I was leaving for vacation and they promised me a response by the time I got back. It is now JULY 6TH more than a month later and still NOTHING! I called them one final time to express my frustration. At this point by the time I get these screen doors I wont need them because its going to be WINTER! They sent me an estimate after my phone with an OUTRAGEOUS estimate. My opinion to get me off their backs because they don't want our business. They estimate I received was for 1 screen door, not 10. Highly unprofessional. I have Midwest Screens coming out to give me an estimate tomorrow and said they will give me a price ON THE SPOT! I would not recommend them to anyone. read more

Great place, nice guys, EXCELLENT SCREEN REPAIR. Yeah they are a little messy and disorderly but it's a controlled chaos. We've used them to rescreen three of our windows now and we're really pleased with the quality, turn-around time, and look. When I went in I explained our situation and they recommended the steel screen. It's strong and beautiful - a neighbor commented that she didn't even think we had screens in our windows because the screen mesh is so fine and blends so well - but it's super strong, and has withstood a dog scratching at it and gives us peace of mind that no unwanted "guests" will be able to scratch or chew their way in. I do have to take off a star because it is so messy in the shop. But when I walk in they know me right away and they know exactly where my screen is and off I go. Don't be put off, these are nice guys who do good work. Highly recommended. read more

These folks ROCK!!! They helped me out a few years back when a stray cat clawed its way into my second floor kitchen. I told them what had happened (the screen looked like I had tossed someone through it!!!!) and they gave me a very reasonable quote. I then asked if there was a material available so this wouldn't happen again. What I liked was there was no high pressure sales tactics used to try to sell me the more expensive, more durable material. They DID demonstrate on a screen of that material in the store how it withstands attempted damage by knives, screwdrivers..even a saw!!! I chose that option....the price was not that much more. The screen was ready in a couple days. And that dang stray cat wasn't able to get in again. The folks are very helpful, they know what they're doing, the price is reasonable and the quality of work is outstanding!!!! I've used them several times since for various screens..and will continue to use them, as needed. read more

Very nice people, friendly small business mindset. My high rise didn't install screens on the windows when the building was built for some odd reason, so a neighbor of mine found City Screen. I had 6 window screens custom made and installed for under $500. You can tell they are screen people and not "big business" people - I had to follow up once or twice, but they also didn't charge for things like having to make an extra trip out. The service was friendly and no-nonsense, the prices are reasonable, and the quality of the screens is great. Happy to support this business. read more

Excellent work, but a couple items to note: 1) my pick up appointment never got on the books, 2) never disclosed labor charge. Recommendation - Make sure to get a quote in writing before they pick up your screens. Labor charge was never disclosed to me (by 3 different employees), so they waived it, rightfully so. We have waited since April 15th for screens.... it's June30th. Still no screens. They forgot to measure for our 3 screens at our home when picking up screens for a condo we were selling, so they remeasured a month ago. Then couldn't find the measurements/ order so came out yet again.3d times a charm right? Nope. I was INCREDIBLY. Patient- perhaps too patient. Last week they finally sent the invoice we confirmed the order, signed it sent it. They then told us that they are at a three week delivery time.....we had been waiting 2 1/2 months! And a month since the second measure. It's summer and we can't open our windows! I then lost my patience insisted they install them sooner since we Had been waiting so long. Spoke to the owner. Completely unprofessional and rude. I actually hung up on him I was so fed up. After back and forth he finally said he would install this week. Again no contact from them so I called and he said he cancelled our order. Seriously. More like a child and then a business owner. Rather than being apologetic for jerking us around for almost 3 months he was rude. Now we have to start over and wait for another company to measure. On top of it I referred them to the building our condo was in and they got the business from that high rise.... which is why I think they don't have time to do our screens. Crazy. So far, awful customer service. Believe the negative reviews. Two men arrived on the scheduled day to pick up the screens.One man just ripped the frames off the track rather than loosening the screws appropriately (he pulled hard enough, it looked like the frame was going to break). Then, they just started walking out without giving us more information. I stopped them to ask the estimate for the 2 sliding screen doors (eighty+ dollars each) and eighty-five dollars for pick up and delivery. They had already ripped the screens out of the frames . . . so, I asked how long before we got them back. They said in 1 week. The estimate they gave seemed pricey, but I justified it as they would get them done quickly and with quality. [A week later . . .] I called at the end of the day to request the status of the screens. The man I spoke to gruffly said, "If we haven't called you, they aren't ready." I explained we were told they would be ready in 1 week, and it had been a week. He said, "They're not ready, but I'll call to check." I was on hold for several minutes and then he said, "We *hope* they will be done next Wednesday. They are still in the production line." I repeated the day "Wednesday" back to him to confirm it, and he gruffly said, "We *HOPE* to have them Wednesday. It's our busy time of year. We will call you when they're ready." I told him, "I'll call you next Wednesday. Thanks," and promptly hung up on him. And, now we wait until Wednesday. It's the start of summer, I live in a high rise, and I need my screens to my balcony for safety of my family and pets. I do not understand the nasty attitude toward someone who is giving you their business. I can, and will, take my business someplace else if you do not uphold your end of the bargain. After searching so many hardware stores, window shops etc etc etc., it lead me to NOWHERE. The corners to about 20 screens on my building broke when taking them out and I could not find any corners that would fit them. No one wanted to help me or even knew how to. Most of them wanted me to get new screens or offered a very expensive alternative. I decided to take the hike up to the north side to City Screen. The two fine gentlemen knew exactly what to do and came up with a solution in minutes. They even put together a screen for me with the new metal corners and taught me how to do it right. And it was so much cheaper than anything anyone else told me. These guys really helped me with this nightmare and I'm so grateful for them. I will continue to go to them for any screen needs that will arise in the future. read more

Wow - the absolute worst customer service experience. I had Gary over in the middle of May to measure my windows to replace a few missing screens and also to take one in for repair. I was told that they would be ready in a couple of weeks. After hearing nothing for four weeks, I called and left Gary a message and heard nothing back. I called back the last week of June and spoke to Gary. He was apologetic, told me that he was working the weekend anyway, and that my screens would be ready the following week. It's now over a month later, I've left another message and . . . nothing. read more

The guys re-screened our entire house (some 25 windows of all sizes) with expertly installed, high quality screens. Justin listened to what we wanted, made suggestions when we weren't sure, offered options to save money, and finished up the job on time! They even showed concern that my cat didn't get too freaked out while they were in the house. Very nice! They do get very busy over the summer, so be prepared to get in line, but if you plan ahead, they will accommodate you. A very positive experience! read more

Had to get a back porch storm door re-screened and had a great experience. None of my local hardware stores wanted to do it, so was glad to find the place. Chose the heavier, pet proof screen and am enjoying the clean, fresh look. As I was parking my car, one of the guys came right outside with my screen to load in my car!
