I had (until this morning!) a 9 year old car- I love it- but clutch #4 went in this summer. And then the timing belt was on it's way out..... So it was lease time- and this outdoorsy queer girl decided it was Subaru time! My brilliant Dad found a fabulous special offer on an Impreza lease. Seeing as I had to go to the Dedham Costco anyway, I made Norwood Subaru a part of my suburan-errand-running afternoon. Big Mistake!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They insulted my car. They tried to make me feel guilty for all the work they put in trying to get me the exact car I wanted. They tried to put me in an automatic transmission. You get the idea. When they couldn't get me what I wanted, I called Cityside- that's when Lucas blessed me with his prescence in my life. That's why there is a manual transmission '07 Impreza Wagon in my parking lot right now. The folks at Cityside were respectful, honest, did not insult my car and actually gave me a fair trade value, they were diverse, and they were helpful. We had a great experience buying a car through Mark at Cityside Subaru. He was friendly and personable and easy to work with. He allowed us to bring our dog into the office, and then in any further interactions, always was thoughtful enough to ask about our dog, which I thought was very sweet. He was very fair in our price negotiation, and we came to a price that I think we were all very happy with. He made the process very painless. He even took the time to introduce us to the electronics system in our new car and make sure we knew how to pair our Bluetooth phones with it. Each time I have brought my 2001 Outback to Cityside they have done great work, have been very professional, and have estimated the cost of repairs accurately. I could not be happier. There have been a few times where I did not have an appointment and my car was ready earlier than I was told as well. Also they have free WiFi, a comfortable waiting area, and free shuttle service to Alewife T. Also, I always meet some interesting people in the waiting area, lots of good conversation. Avoid Mark Foresta at all costs. As soon as we walked in he was extremely hostile and he continued to be rude throughout the process. He never gave us an actual quote and instead used 240 to 270 per month on a lease after asking 2 different times for an actual quote. Same thing happened with trade in as he "ball parked" $4,000, but wasn't sure. Complete and utter waste of time as didn't get an actual monthly quote for lease, quote for trade in, and was rude the whole time with a belittling attitude. Certainly not worth the 2 hours it took to drive there and speak with him. Website says 113/ month for a lease for Impreza. Turns out its about 250+... bait and switch. Terrible dealership that looks like its 30 years in the past with a bad layout, offices, and the people are the worst. read more

This relates to shopping for a used car: First time I went, no sales person came outside, I had to go track one down. Then he was just like "eh, got nothin", took down my info and I heard nothing. Second time I went the guy was nicer, actually came up to me. I told him I had done research, he said great, we're knowledgeable here...then proceeded to tell me manual transmission was "highly desirable and hard to find" . I told him I knew they were hard to find, but that's because no one wants to drive sticks in the US, not so desirable. He estimated one price in the lot-one in my budget and in the right ballpark according to Consumer Reports, but when he went inside to check, the price jumped by $2000! Eeesh. So option #1: is he has no idea what he's doing, option #2: they inflated the price for little old me. EIther way I am un-impressed. Really seems like they are not interested in selling cars. Under enthusiastic, not full of information, little or no enthusiasm. Felt like the stereotype of the used car sales man trying to scam a woman. Cityside has some work to do. NEWSFLASH: this is an addendum. Just looked up the car online, and IT IS LISTED FOR $800 LESS THAN HE QUOTED ME IN PERSON! WTH? read more

I joined yelp just so I could write a negative review on this place I took my car in for a major engine recall repair. They were nice enough to give me a loaner car, that was cool. What wasn't cool is that when I got my car back and they hadn't put it back together correctly. It was as if it was the mechanic's first day. First off they never reconnected the alternator, so on my drive home the battery light came on. I pulled over and checked under the hood. and saw the wires from the alternator NOT CONNECTED. Second, they never tightened the hose clamps on the radiator hoses, so coolant started leaking all over the engine, causing smoke to go everywhere. I had to have the car towed back at my own expense for stupid mistakes made by their techs. My ordeal is not over yet- when they were fixing their mistakes, they somehow killed my radio. I got the car back and the radio was turned on with no key in the ignition. They said they "ordered a replacement" a week now has gone by and they of course don't have the part yet. I'm debating not bringing the car back and getting a radio elsewhere, wondering what else may be broken when I get the car back. read more

My guess is that their mechanical work is great, and they do offer pick up and loaner cars which is helpful. Apart from that though, it's hard to recommend Cityside Subaru. A simple 1 day fix became a 3 week fix. Ordered the wrong part, didn't have a part, said I needed two additional repairs as revealed by the first repair. 3 weeks later, 2 wrongly quoted timelines, reps that didn't have answers to simple questions, dirty seats (which they said they weren't responsible for but I later saw that my complete dashboard had been stored on the seats which is why they were filthy), and a disconnected bumper that they also said wasn't them, and I have my car back. To be fair they did scrub the marks on my seats, and did put in a new bumper clip. I guess if you don't have another option Cityside could be acceptable. read more

I returned to Cityside to attend a free 'learn about your new car' event put on by Joe (the service and parts manager). This session was really helpful, informative, and appreciated. Joe did a great job and I really hope Cityside puts on more events like this for their customers (maybe a different topic each quarter?). Also- Joe was able to answer my 'first time Subaru/AWD owner' questions which was really great. He provided each attendee with a huge bag of Subaru/Cityside loot, and he even gave me the bottle of touchup paint I had come prepared to purchase. Alex has called me at least twice since I purchased my car (just to check in) which is very nice too. I have been very impressed with Cityside so far and I hope to be able to report the same after I start having service work done there. read more

Glen was a pleasure to work with. I had already picked out a used 2014 70 miles away at another dealership. It wasn't the color I wanted, but the price was right. Glen reached out to me and assured me that CitySide would be able to find a deal on a 2015 model in the color I wanted. I was slightly skeptical given that my budget was sized for a used 2014 model, but they made it work under my budget! I spent the rest of my budget prepaying maintenance so I could save even more. Now that I've passed 40 reviews I notice my criterion for 5 stars has gotten much higher, in fact while I love Cityside Subaru I just don't see how I could possibly give a car dealership 5 stars. So consider this a 4 1/2 star review please. I am a Subaru addict! Especially on a day like today with 13 inches of snow on the ground, I appreciate not even having to shovel my car out. You can't beat the All Wheel Drive and now it seems like so many other car's are following the lead. I love Cityside because the service center is run by a bunch of nice guys. They are always polite and informative and the new facility in Belmont (used to be in a cramped little spot in Arlington) is beautiful and makes waiting for my car go by quickly. I cannot speak on purchasing a car there, but if you have a Subaru and need a Subaru mechanic, I would highly recommend going here, especially if you have a Check Engine Light on. Highlights: 1) They are busy for a reason. Their technicians for Subaru vehicles are amazing and can diagnose like nobody's business. 2) They update you quickly and provide you with all the details about what's happening with your car. They give you honest answers to sometimes lame situations. 3) They can take a little long, but probably just because they are so busy. 4) There's no pressure to do work on the car. They will tell you what's wrong with it (after thorough diagnosing) and give you recommendations. They are very chill when it comes to that. There's no pressure at all, and that's very nice considering it's usually the opposite you think of when it comes to mechanics. Longer: Plagued by a check engine light and weeks of not having it fixed, I was recommended to come to Cityside by a fellow mechanical engineer friend of mine who had dealt with them directly. At first, they were way too busy to take me. I would have had to wait 9 days to get an appointment. Thankfully, my local shop, who also recommended them, called and got me in the next day! First off, they were very interested in the work I had already done to the car. This is SO NICE and RARE, especially at dealerships. Most places won't trust the work other shops have done and are disinterested in your opinion. Brian was interested and I could hear him type diligently on the phone all of the details I wrote about what I had done on the car - and it was a lot. They weren't able to get to my car for another day - probably because they were so busy and I was technically a stand-by, but once they did, they got right into it. There wasn't any messing around in diagnosing the problem. They were able to check SO MANY things to see what could be causing my cylinder misfire. They confirmed that my plugs were good, my injectors were working, my coil packs were new and good, etc. Please not, that I took the shop to Subaru of Wakefield and they did not do this at all. After confirming that my piston had compression, they suspected (and rightfully so) that it was in need of a valve adjustment. When the took out the engine, they found my valves were too tight and causing the misfire. Wow. I had done literally hours and hours and hours of research on this problem through forums and forums and I think only one person had this issue. THIS IS NOT EASY TO DIAGNOSE, and their technician did it. They've been at work for a couple days now and have kept me updated through my incessant calling. They have appeased my stress and to them, it all seems like just another day. To me, however, it was insanely important and so nice to feel that they really knew what they were doing and that my car was in good hands. Highly recommended for Subaru-specific mechanical work, especially if you have a Check Engine Light. read more

So I leased my car here and it was your typical cat and mouse negotiation which I hate so much but seems to be standard with car dealers. They weren't overly aggressive during the process so I think I got lucky in that regard. I've done my scheduled maintenence here and its been extremely smooth every time. They have a waiting lounge with TV, coffee and most importantly free wi-fi. They also have a ton of magazines there too so it's as pleasant a wait as I can expect. The wait times have been very short so I've been happy with that too. My Suburu Legacy has not needed any repairs (knock on wood) so I haven't been subject to any overcharging attempts which has been commented on here so I can neither confirm nor deny that it happens. Until it does, I have to give it a solid 4 stars. read more

Review is for their quick service center: I've had 2 very good and speedy service appointments at their drop in service center. Both visits were for oil changes and general multipoint inspections. I also had a state inspection at my most recent visit today. Alan the quick service manager is friendly and attentive. The work was done quickly and the multipoint inspection was explained in a matter-of-fact manner with no added sales gloss. I will upgrade to 5 stars if I have a few more good experiences. So even though I put 4 stars, my 2 experiences so far have been 5 star experiences. Recommendations to owner: Put some new car brochures in that lobby so maybe some of the owners of 10 year old Subarus will be tempted to upgrade. read more

We negotiated what i felt was a fair price for my 2010 Subaru Forester. Donald was my salesperson- he wasn't pushy or annoying. I told him exactly what i was looking for, and he met me where I was. I've had my car for less than a week, but so far so good. also- i had to get independent insurance at the same time as the car, and they recommended a lady- Jeannette Naimoli with Liberty Mutual (Subaru owners get 10% off if you use them) - she was very helpful, understood exactly what i needed, and the rate was a great deal more affordable than geico, all state and a couple other places i looked. ask for donald- check out liberty mutual.. made my experience a lot less stressful than i anticipated. so long to the comfort and irresponsibility of a company car and insurance. hello subaru. read more

I visited Cityside based on a recommendation from a friend who also shopped here. She and her husband loved the friendly, easy attitude of the salesman they worked with (Mark Lidano). All I remember from my last car buying experience (admittedly 9 years ago) was the feeling of being pressured to buying something RIGHT NOW. Working with Mark, he really took the time to understand what I was looking for in a car. Based on that, he provided some recommendations and he did not just limit it to Subarus. He really wanted me to find the right car, not specifically the right Subaru, and he was completely understanding (and encouraged it) when I said I wanted to take some time and think about my options. He welcomed me back (and remembered be!) more than a month later once I had made my decision and felt ready to purchase. The rest of the staff there were also very friendly, acknowledging me within a few minutes of walking in the door and asking if I needed any assistance. The 'paperwork guy' John Melvin was also very helpful in helping me find the right warranty coverage based on my driving habits, instead of trying to push me towards the most expensive package. I left feeling like I had the coverage I needed, without having paid for too much. All in all, it was a really pleasant experience. If I'm looking for another car, I will definitely come back and I highly recommend people at least check out Cityside (and definitely speak to Mark) if they are looking for a low-pressure car buying experience, even if they're not looking for a Subaru. read more

First, he gave us a fair price, and made the price negotiation process very painless. Second, the vehicle is in very good status. It only has a super low mileage on it. Cityside even helps you clean the car just before you pick it up. You know, sometimes the vehicle might get dust during the delivery. Finally, after our purchase, he took the time to introduce us to the electronics system in our new car, and how to pair my phone via bluetooth. Do yourself a favor and STAY AWAY. This place is simply awful. Rude and dismissive employees, and incompetent service personnel. I think this place suffers from the fairly common Boston area syndrome "we have so much business we don't care about being polite(as in professional) or doing a good (or even decent) job". Examples: - Took all week to (attempt to) fix a broken seat belt (covered under warranty), at which time, the repair was NOT EVEN DONE since the part they tried to install (on Thurs, after the car was dropped off for the repair on Monday) was broken. They asked if we could leave the car over the weekend, but we couldn't be without the car that long. We had to reschedule another appointment to get the repair done, more hassle and more time wasted for something that should have been an easy job. - Soon after a routine service done by Cityside, the car started emitting smoke from under the hood while it was being driven. My wife and I freaked out, thinking something was overheating, or some fluid leak. Turns out (after pulling over and popping the hood), during the oil change, the service personnel at Cityside spilled oil all over the engine like the job was done by a 5 year old. I cleaned off the oil, and problem done. Not a big deal, but it startled us. I've seen a lot of oil changes at a lot of different places. And I've never seen it done this carelessly and sloppily. On the next routine maintenance, they did the SAME THING. Oil all over the engine, and smoke coming out from under the hood. My wife called to complain, and Cityside was completely dismissive. No apology, no offer to do it right next time, nothing. In fact, they acted ANNOYED that we were bringing this to their attention. My wife continues to use this place (even though she hates them), since its so close to our house, and no other Subaru dealers nearby. But myself, I have a Impreza with a recall that needs to be addressed, and will probably travel much farther (Subra in Framingham or Reading) just to get away from Cityside. read more

Review for Service Dept: I do my regular maintenance here for 2 years paying hefty price instead of going to other local mechanics because I do not want unexpected car problems. They lost my business now. Their mechanics should have prevented these issues. Review for Sale Dept: Since I do my service here I came back here for trade in and get another car here but again other places (Metrowest and Clay) gave me a better deal and in writing! They gave me such a bad deal that there's no point in negotiating. Go somewhere else. read more

I have a dark blue Outback Limited like everyone else. Zander (and Nick previously) have always been very helpful-- I went in for an oil change and they suggested that I rotate the tires as well. There was a small trim piece that was broken somehow, they were very kind about getting it replaced under warranty. The car was done quickly and while I'm sure there are cheaper choices for an oil change + servicing, I trust these guys to use the right brand / grade of oil- which is important in the Subaru engines. Negative- I will say that it took me a while to get an appointment-- but I suppose that's because they're good at what they do. Perhaps they could hire more folks or get a bigger place? read more

5 stars for sure. I started bringing my car here for regular appointments 2 years ago after I had a HORRIBLE experience at another Subaru dealership. I was weary of stepping foot into another dealership but I haven't been disappointed at all! In fact, I've left the dealership on many occasions feeling good about my experience/the state of my car/my integrity. One particular experience stands out - the last time I brought my car in for a check engine light check, my car was well past warranty and it was determined it'd be a pricey fix (about $2000) - I ended up leaving 6 hours later with all of the work completed and having only paid for the oil change because they found an open recall on my car that covered the car part (that I am not even going to try to spell). Don't go with Cityside Subaru's Express Service. Their website says Express service 7a-5p. When I drove to their service office at 4:20pm, I saw the OPEN sign on the front door. So I walked in and waited patiently until my turn which was around 4:35pm (BTW: in the whole time the service counselor had seen me but had done nothing!), and then got an simple response from the service counselor that they were closed. I asked why the door sign showed OPEN and the website showed you were still in service. He gave me no explanation or apologies. And then I asked when was the deadline for the last customer. He gave no clear answer and said before 3ish... This is really irresponsible attitude and disrespectful of customers' time. Besides, the express service office is just a counter with a few chairs. Expect a very awkward and uncomfortable waiting experience there if you are lucky to be accepted service. I have never seen a more crude waiting area and impolite service stuff as this. Will never go to Cityside Subaru for service again. read more

Surprisingly laid-back sales approach. We went into the dealership on a Sunday and had to ask to talk to a salesperson. He set us up for a test drive, handed us a brochure, and told us the suggested retail price. We eventually bought our car here, but only after negotiating a better price through Lucas, the Internet sales manager, via Autobytel.com. Actually showing up to handle the paperwork took less than an hour, which was really nice. They did try to sell us an extended warranty (of course), but gave up after we said "no" twice. read more

When the time recently came for me to replace my old car, I decided to test drive a Subaru since I had heard good things about them in recent years, and who wouldn't want all wheel drive for the New England winter? I went to Cityside and spent some time looking at models, and the staff was very helpful at answering my questions. They let me take the model I was interested in on several extensive test drives, and never once did they try to limit the time I spent with the car. When i decided to buy, they were very respectful of my timeframe and budget, and worked with me to get me the car I wanted at a reasonable price. It is great that there are some car dealers out there that don't believe in high pressure sales tactics. I usually feel better going with the dealership on bigger repairs, though it might be more expensive in the long run -- kind of how I wouldn't buy a generic charger for my Mac. Maybe it's not the cheapest way to go about things, but I like the peace of mind. Anyway, apart from feeling more comfortable with them, I've been impressed by the service and transparency at Cityside Subaru. One time my car needed a bunch of smaller repairs in different areas, and they came out and itemized the cost of each so I could pick and choose which ones I got done that day. I've never had a situation where they performed work I didn't need or wasn't expecting -- they always ask first and confirm the price to me. As much as I hate to need work on my car, I'll keep going back here when I do! read more

Just brought my two year old Subaru Outback in for a rip in the leather driver's side seat of unknown origin. I filed a case with the National Office and they comped me half the cost of the repair. I brought the car in to Cityside where I bought it for the repair and they unexpectedly comped me the other half and gave me a loaner to boot. Great customer relations! I really appreciate it. I dread buying/leasing a car because of the pushiness of some salesmen. Nobody wants to be told what they want or just played the fool for a sale. I was extremely surprised with how easy the entire experience ended up being at this place. Definitely work with Rob Gale if you get the opportunity. He was really great throughout the whole process. Everything was really relaxed and he spent a lot of time just talking with me about which cars would probably be the best fit, while also not putting a ton of pressure to walk out with one. In fact, when it came down to my decision, he helped me get a great deal. In addition, after I actually got the car, he sat with me and explained all the little details about it that I should've figured out by reading the manual (Ain't nobody got time for that). Well it my first time here and the express shop was 15 minutes late to open. I went there for a synthetic oil change and after waiting 1:45 the tech put in conventional oil in the engine. Yes, the service guy said he would replace the oil with that I asked with no extra charge, but I'm still disappointed. I'll look to another service center. Update. After leaving the dealer and driving to Long Island I discovered the mechanic over filled the oil by over 1.5 quarts. I'm guessing the mechanic was upset that I asked for a service which he did not perform and when I pushed he thought it was a good idea to overfill the engine. If I could give a rating of zero stars I would. Now I'm having to investigate what damage he caused to my engine. Avoid this dealer at all cost. I had a good experience buying the car from Cityside Subaru last November 2016. The sales Representative was knowledgable and reasonable. I went today for my 3 month free inspection of my brand new vehicle. So I went per the sale's rep instruction. Their service representative was rude and intolerable. It's to a point that he does not want to deal with any customers. He has sly remarks with other costumers trying to reschedule their appointment. This guy has no business being with costumer service because he acts like he hates his job.When it was my turn, I asked him what has been done to my car, he just slid a piece of paper across the desk without any explanation of what the checklist means. "Here!", Alan Thomas, said bluntly and walked away in the service area saying on earshot, "I am so annoyed!". I don't know what he is so annoyed about but he was the rudest most inconsiderate service personnel I have encountered. I would NEVER let this service center touch my car again. In fact I would make an effort to write to corporate on how this service center treats their customers. I spoke with his manager and I got the customary apology for this guy's behavior. If you have to have your car serviced, take your business somewhere else. where you're not treated as a nuisance because you have questions on the "service" they supposedly did to your vehicle. Save yourself the hassle They are not the only service center around. If I could give zero stars I would. Mr. Thomas you need to find a job that you like.
