We took a group of youth students from our church in AZ to Cali and every morning we had a standing order here. I always would rather get products from a local spot and this place did not disappoint! They were so kind and made our order perfect every morning. They even delivered it to us by the nicest people and would drive to wherever in the Biola campus that I was in need of getting my leaders their delicious morning pick up. For an out of towner this place slapped I recommend you go check them out as the coffee is quite great but the people are truly some of the nicest I've engaged with in awhile. read more

Got the avocado toast for lunch today, it was great and freshly made! I'm a regular here but never got it before and I'm glad I did. I usually get the lattes or the two shot raider. Service from the baristas and owner is always great and friendly. It's also a solid environment to get some studying done, college students come here but Civitas has a well rounded crowd: from families to workers on lunch. I highly recommend this place for good coffee if your'e a local or coming from afar and need a place to get things done. This is such a cute little shop, I ordered for pick up and it was ready within 10 minutes. I ordered the Spanish latte and I thought it was so yummy! Not super sweet and not too much cinnamon but you can still taste the coffee. The avocado toast was yummy, fresh avocado, and the perfect size! I would be here everyday if I lived nearby!! Such a cute spot and I love how peaceful and quiet it is, perfect environment to just study or hangout with friends. We had bumped into this amazing coffee place when we first moved to our new home. Husband and I went in exploring mode to find a local family owned coffee shop. We found it, my husband loved their coffee blend and I their coffee and matcha. Heads up! Their pastries are home made, I had the pleasure to meet their amazing baker. Nothing beats a warmed up chocolate croissant or the Almond Croissant. My husband loved their pastry puff, heard it's one of their newest items so it was a must try. They also sell Avocado toasts and other amazing toasts. That being said my husband who is not from the US is very picky and dislikes Avocados, I was surprised to see him take an Avocado toast and what can I say, he didn't share. I got one as well to see why all of sudden he liked it. That was one great toast The environment seems cozy and you can do some catching up on homework and service they are very friendly and helpful, very welcoming, I would like to thank them for the great time we spent having coffee there and definitely will be coming back. Don't let the outside deter you from checking out this little gem of a coffee spot. Going with my usual, a straight cold brew (and a Honey Oat Latte for the wife), I was not disappointed it, and honestly I would say that it is in the top 5 best cold brews I've had. The flavors were nice, and there was not super bitterness to it, which makes washing down a cup of dark cold coffee much easier. The wife was impressed with her Honey Oat Latte and said that its a top 5 drink for her as well. I did a quick search on coffee shops near Cerrito and this 5-star with 200+ review coffee shop showed up on my search results, so I made a small detour and grabbed a quick cup of coffee. Parking was easy and you order your drink via a small kiosk near the front entrance. The kiosk screen showed quite a bit of customization beyond just plant-based milks including various sweetness level (very similar to customization you see in many boba shops). The drink took slightly longer than I expected considering I was the only customer at the time. ** Spanish Latte (small $6.00): This was the drink Yelp recommended and personally it was slightly too sweet for my taste. I wouldn't say the drink itself was bad as it had a hint of cinnamon with good mix of foam. *** There aren't many third wave coffee shops in SoCal that let customers manually enter a customized order with the level of details you see in Starbucks app via the kiosk. This is one of those shops that require multiple visits to get the right customization just for you. P.S. - Few outdoor tables are available. read more

Civitas has quickly became one of my favorite coffee shops to visit for a quality drink. Whenever I am in the area I always stop and it is always consistent in flavor and quality. Civitas is tucked away in a small center behind a Mr V's and can be tough to spot from the street. The parking lot is horribly designed and makes it almost impossible to park near when the aforementioned business is open as they take up 85% or so of this lot. The service has always been friendly and the prices are in line with what you would expect from the coffee shops in the area. They offer a full array of drinks including all your favorites and essentials and seem to be known for their honey oat latte and Chaggaccinos. My go to is a standard iced vanilla latte and the flavor is always right on point. The place is quite small and not really equipped for those who may want to bring a laptop and get some work done on site but they do have a couple small seats so it isn't out of the question. I really do find this place quite good and better than several other shops nearby and that sets them apart for me . I definitely look forward to coming back again soon. I stopped by here for a quick cup of strawberry milk. I liked the interior and the cute plant stickers but the drink had a bit of a powder taste (though I'm not sure what they use for the base). I paid for this coffee and I paid 0.50 cents extra for coconut milk. I asked for light ice. The drink was handed to me at less than 3/4 full. I said I'd like my cup filled. They charged me an additional 0.75 cents to add more from where my finger is to where you see the liquid is with more coconut milk only. Here's my issue, if I order a drink and I ask for no ice or light ice my drink should not be handed to me without the cup being full, because of your ideology of profits & losses or what ever theory you deem acceptable to hand me a cup lacking the fluid I just purchased. If it's not ok to hand me half a cup of coffee then it's not ok to hand me 3/4 a cup of coffee! read more

ABSOLUTELY LOVED! This place was a bit of a drive for me but definitely worth it. I ordered their Iced Spanish Latte which was PERFECT. Just the right sweetness, milk to coffee ratio, etc. I think it would be even more amazing if they had coffee ice cubes though... I have yet to taste a Spanish Latte that compares so I'll definitely have to visit again sometime soon. Also, there's a decent amount of seating inside but the parking for the plaza is a bit confusing. Note- Would love if they brought back their glass cups for those who aren't doing to-go (more sustainable and they're so cute!) Super cute, simple, straightforward coffee shop. Wifi is good, noise level isn't too bad, bathroom is clean. Staff was nice. The avocado toast... I topped it with the balsamic arugula salad it came with -- I would go back solely for the toast despite this place being out of the way for me. I initially visited because my car was getting some work done down the block and I had a lot of work to catch up on. Nearly every seat was taken except for one at the tall wobbly entrance table. No matter, I was able to pop in my headphones, zone in and get a bunch of work done for about 3 hours. It was a successful day. I also ordered the chagaccino and a chai latte, pretty standard. I'd love to try their ricotta toasts but sadly cannot (this girl is dairy free ) They have a kiosk if you want to keep it digital, but I didn't use it, I needed food recommendations.
