This place has amazing customer service and the staff has great product knowledge. The Cartier watch I wanted was not in stock when I arrived but Gracie had the watch delivered to me from their utc location within the hour. While my wife and I waited Gracie showed me other watches that fit the style I was looking for. Gracie answered all my questions, she was very attentive, offered water to both my wife and I and was always willing to help and made sure I found the watch I wanted. At the end I ended up buying the Cartier watch I originally came in for. Before we left, the whole staff and management came out to make sure everything went perfect and they all congratulated me on my purchase. I took my Omega watch for battery replacement, after 2 weeks with no contact called store for an update on battery replacement, was told someone would get back to me as to the status of my watch! Female returned my call to inform me the old battery had "leaked" and quoted over $600 for repair! Told them no and I will pick up my watch as I didn't trust them after waiting 2 weeks then when I called they quoted repair cost! Picked up my watch and asked them why they didn't call me requesting repair? They used an analogy like a biopsy which takes time in order to discover the issue?? They did refund my money to replace the battery along with my old battery. I took my watch to a watchmaker in Del Mar, he replaced battery for half the cost and found no leakage ! Watch is running perfectly! And good news is I found a trustworthy watchmaker! read more

I just attempted to purchase an Omega watch from CJ Charles. They were fairly responsive to start with, but as soon as I asked for any discount, they were dismissive. Then I agreed to pay full retail, but asked that a small accessory be included (probably amounted to a 3%-4% discount. They then told me that I was way too much of a hassle and I should look elsewhere. In fairness, this was only a $6500 watch, so not a lot of money, right? In fact, it would be the least expensive watch in my collection....but not worth their time. So, I guess if you want to pay retail and get marginal service, these are your guys. They came across as very arrogant, but that is just my opinion. read more

The first watch was an impossible "find" - a cartier rectangular bleu balloon that was discontinued, but that my daughter wanted and I wanted to give her for her 30th birthday. Jon searched the universe and found the watch. He was relentless and so incredibly knowledgeable and just did not give up! More recently, I purchased a Cartier tank must, but decided it was just too small for my liking. Jon and his colleague Ali, graciously took the watch in trade and found me the one that I really love. TOP NOTCH business. Gracious staff. I live in VA so there is always a FEDEX label involved that Jon sends on his dime, every time. Thank you CJ Charles Jewelers! This was a free, helpful lesson on where to shop for jewelry in La Jolla. When it comes to value, CJ Charles Jewelers apparently suffers from the "see what you can get out of them" syndrome. As a resident of La Jolla, this is one of my pet peeves: charging unreasonable rates because some people living in a wealthy part of town will pay them. I brought two watches in to get the batteries replaced. The lady was very nice, but when she returned from a brief discussion with someone in the back room, she told me that it would cost $45 for each watch. If I didn't know better (I do, because I paid less than $10/watch at a Jeweler on Girard), I might have said, "Yeah, OK." But as I told the lady, that's a bit "over the top." I like to gauge work done by "time and materials." So, for a $5 battery to be put into a watch in 5 minutes (as Bowers was able to do), that equates to $480/hr for the replacement labor. How do they justify this? The kicker is that when I went elsewhere to get my watch batteries replaced (spending $20 instead of $90 a couple blocks away), I ended up buying my wife and myself a home decor gift that I found in that other shop...rewarding them with a sale of over $1,000. CJ Jewelers is doing themselves a disservice by charging so much for something that should probably be a "loss leader" in marketing terms. read more

My review is based on my experience as a seller. I called ahead to make sure this store purchases watches since I was looking to sell 2 Rolex watches from my father's collection. I told the rep on the phone about the types of watches and was honest about not having boxes nor papers. They still said that was fine and they would make an appointment that same day so I can have it viewed by their buyer in store that day. I kept my appointment and this was the first store I visited for these watches due to the great reviews they had online. Unfortunately it seems those reviews were only for buyers, and not those selling to them. At first I was met with friendliness. No other customer was at the store so almost all of them came up to greet me and ask what I was there for. I met with the buyer in a few minutes and he checked the watches and asked some questions about the watch. Everything seemed to go fine until he asked what price I had in mind. Knowing how these transactions go, I did my research ahead of time and also asked my father what his price point was. I did not want to throw out a number first though and instead put the question back on them as to how much they would offer. It started getting tense then because they would just refuse to say something and then instead now critiqued the watches to try to justify why they are not giving a price. After a while, the second buyer came by and inspected it. He then told me point blank that I should not have gone to them first and that they don't even "need to buy these pieces." He also tried to point out that I was not educated with these pieces and told me to "do my research." Lastly ended with "when you get your best offer, then you can come back to us with a number but we are not going to give you a buy price." Useless waste of my time and trip to La Jolla for a supposed reputable business. I felt so degraded after that meeting since I just packed up and left and they just ignored me after that point. Gone was the friendliness initially received since they basically embarrassed me while every one of their sales people on the floor saw/heard what happened. Maybe they are good for when you need to buy pieces (but aren't all sales people that way?) but steer clear of this place when you want to sell good pieces. They will not be honest with you and just waste your time. read more

Maybe they could sense that I didn't know much about watches or I caught the salesperson on a bad day. While the gentleman was nice enough, he obviously became impatient with my questions. I had a personal milestone recently and I want to purchase a nice watch for myself. At least I thought I did. The gentleman didn't seem to realize that I like a big watch, which is odd since I mentioned it half a dozen times and he kept showing me smaller faces. Although he was courteous enough, in the beginning at least, and the selection is nice, he either couldn't understand my style or just didn't want to listen. Don't leave anything with them without a written quote for service. I was given an inaccurate cost of service (service was 35% higher for the exact service quoted) I was given inaccurate amount of time to complete service (double the amount of time) Associates did not return my call as they claimed they would. I purchased the watch I was having serviced from them as well as many others so I did have expectations of them. When my watch is finally returned I will NEVER do business with them again. The main woman who had helped us was very kind, soft-spoken, and honest. She didn't try to sell me on any one or two things but rather listened to our likes, dislikes, and budget. Unfortunately, there was an older woman who, although was "kind" enough to offer us a glass of water, almost seemed forced to do so and had a daunting and unnerving look on her face. After a few minutes, she proceeded to laugh away into the back with another man and I didn't see her until we were about to exit the store. I brought them my fiancée's ring for resizing about a week after I proposed (on a Saturday) and was told it would be ready 3-4 days later (Tuesday or Wednesday). I waited nearly a week and called them the following Friday to ask if there was an update and they informed me that it might be done the following week on Tuesday, but it had not been touched yet. When I asked how likely it was to actually be done on the specified date this time, the individual on the phone got defensive and basically told me she had no idea and acted as though it was an unreasonable question, despite the fact that at that point they had already nearly doubled their original time estimate. Finally, the following Wednesday they contacted me saying it was done. I picked up the ring and they made no mention of the fact that they had tripled their original time estimate, then they slapped me with a $200 price tag. For reference, the task involved sizing down a relatively thin yellow gold band with nothing special (no changes to the setting itself), which, based upon my research, is among the easiest resizing jobs. In summary, these folks have poor customer service and charge more than seems reasonable for very simple tasks. Additionally, they don't seem to grasp the importance of such a piece to their customers and fail to communicate realistic time estimates for the work to be completed. My fiancée barely had the ring for a week before they took it and upon return they did not acknowledge their miscalculation (3x original estimate) at all. I definitely will not be returning. P.S. Maybe irrelevant to the review, but the actual work conducted is of a decent quality. The resizing was accurate and we are happy with the ring itself. read more

CJ Charles jewelers is across the street from Prospect Jewelers at the Village in LaJolla. I found a pre-owned Rolex submariner 42 mm here on the Internet for $6200 in May 2018. That turned out to be a good idea to purchase it because when we returned One year later, they had the exact same watch for sale at $10,900. The people here are really nice, we met JOHN who is the vintage watch salesman. They offer you water, they do a very nice soft sales job and they are not pushy. They are willing to pull out Rolex after Rolex and let you look at it. They have Cartier for both men and women, Patel Philippe and Panerai. The store is divided into two parts- on the right side and the vintage pre-owner is on the left side. They have two watch makers on site so they can repair and clean your timepieces. read more

I was in La Jolla visiting family when I noticed that a stone had fallen off an old diamond ring I had received as a gift years ago. As chance happens, while walking around near the cove I came across CJ Charles and I am so glad I did. The gentleman who assisted me (Vahid) was very kind and patient and I felt confident in the stores ability to restore my ring. I left my ring with them and 48 hrs later I received a call that it was ready. Oh my goodness! What I got back looked even better and stunning than the ring I had first seen 10 years prior. They did an amazing job - not only replacing the missing diamond, but they polished and cleaned the ring so it looked like the day I first got it. I don't buy expensive watches all the time.. So I looked everywhere... With Omega. For every model, they have many different versions: ( 35 mm vs. 38mm ; White Gold Vs. Red Gold Vs. Yellow Gold; Steel Vs. Gold; Chronometer Vs. Quarts; with Diamond Vs. No Diamonds Etc...) I was afraid of purchasing an expensive watch over the internet.... In San Diego they are the only Authorized full stock dealer. At this level, the price is more or less the same everywhere... But, at the store you get to see the watches and talk to someone in person! Well, the one that I wanted was discontinued! Literally they search all over the world for one... than, the first one I got - I did not like because it was the 35mm and I wanted the 38mm. Well they gave me a "Loaner Watch" until they found the exact watch that I wanted (38mm, Steel Yellow Gold with a Full Bar) Trough out this journey, The Manager & The Owner were very nice, calm and professional.
