We ate at CJ's cafe but it was not a good impression. I had a huevo rancher, the food was gross it did not have any kind of flavor to it. Love this place!! had no clue this joint was in my neighborhood. So the first time we decided to try it not knowing what to expect hubby and I were blown away:) now we are here every Sunday for brunch and tried most of their breakfast dishes. The Menudo is soooo good (especially after a hangover), the huevos rancheros are delicious, the waffle special with eggs and bacon or sausage is good to and now one of my favorites is the Greek omelette(spinach, I think tomatoes and feta cheese). CJ's represents what I love so much about Los Angeles. Its that funky, beautiful mix of cultures and classes that makes my city's flavor so unique. The clientele is all over the place from greying neighborhood old folks to artists to families with their kids after youth basketball. The menu is a mix of southern soul food, american classics and mexican. The prices are very reasonable and the food is solid. They're so packed on the weekends I almost think they need a bigger place. I docked them a star because the wait list system was chaotic & unorganized. CJ's is my all time favorite food hiding spot. I literally got thru graduate school on their food and atmosphere. The food is and excellent mix of typical American, Soul, and Mexican food. The staff is friendly and remembers you and what you typically order. I can personally vouch for the oatmeal, chicken soup, the fresh chips and salsa, fries, and burgers. The food is good. The portions of pork chops and cat fish are skimpy (paper thin). I would give it 5 stars, but the servers don't know how to serve. For the prices on the menu the food is not worth the price. The pancakes were dry and tasteless. The turkey bacon is dry and overcooked. I believe that at norms or the egg slut in downtown would be a better option. The service lacks to keep up with your order, your items never come. By far u think the worst breakfast spot I la. I think when you've been to other locations the standards for any place is good food, good service and we're good. I would not give this place not even one star but unfortunately it's part of leaving a review process. CJ's is definitely my go-to spot for breakfast or lunch. There menu varies from American food to Mexican food and it's pretty tasty! The staff is friendly and the prices are inexpensive for a good amount of food. They also have a fresh juice menu. I come often with friends or family because it has such a calm family-oriented atmosphere. It definitely gets crowded on weekend mornings/afternoons so that is something you want to keep in mind if you plan on trying it on a Saturday or Sunday. Easy parking, larger location than original spot, clean with fast and friendly service. I ordered the red snapper, home fries, scrambled eggs (hard with cheese) and an english muffin.
