It's a local pizza establishment and literally the train drops you off at the entrance! The stout is thick and rich. They have great slice options. Not sure if these are the "normal" selections but they have a an all vegan one that even has the vegan cheese! I'm here to support a concert that is nearby so this is a welcome sit down before I have to stand up. Just wanted to update my review since I went back a week ago. The regular pizza was good. The sicilian was not cut properly - the top was cut through the pizza but not at all through the crust. The sicilian was also strangely salty as far as the sauce and I don't know why. The regular cheese pie I got, which I assume has the same sauce on it, did not taste salty or odd like the sicilian. Their Monday deal of a XL cheese pie for $15 is a great deal. Now the few not so good things this second time. There is no parking. They have a small alleyway with maybe 6-8 parking spots on the side of the pizzeria. Considering the place was pretty empty when I came midday but the lot was full, I have to assume staff take the spots. No street parking. You're supposed to be able to pull out of the alleyway by going forward and turning into another alleyway that crosses the parking alleyway. Unfortunately, there was a motorcycle someone was working on or just left there so you could not get past the bike and the car parked in the last spot. I had to back out onto the busy main street, which was dangerous. Also annoying is that the menu has zero prices, and it's not like the girl at the counter knows the prices. She had to punch in whatever I asked the price to on her tab in order to give me a price. When I asked how much for toppings added, she couldn't give me a concrete answer. Even more frustrating is that the prices on your bill will not match what you were quoted. I think what they quote is the price plus tax, and then the bill has the real prices and all the tax bundled together at the bottom, so it's near impossible to figure out the cost of each item. What I Ordered: -Sloppy Pig $5.01 -Sicilian $7.29 I was excited to finally check out this place since I always drive by. I loved the street art on the building, especially the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles eating pizza - very fitting for a pizza shop! The interior has a cool skate and street art vibe, with loud hip-hop/rap music playing. It's definitely not your father's pizzeria! While I enjoy rap and hip-hop, the playlist wasn't my favorite. I noticed the only other person inside had AirPods in, so I wasn't the only one who wasn't vibing with the music. They offer a fantastic selection of vegan pizzas, which is great to keep in mind if you're bringing a vegan friend or family member. The employee I spoke with was quiet but helpful, offering recommendations when I asked. I ended up getting two slices, and she kindly warmed them up in the oven for me. They were perfectly warm, not hot, which was nice so I didn't burn my mouth. I ordered a slice of the Sloppy Pig ($5.01), which has pepperoni, Italian sausage, Canadian bacon, and bacon. It was my favorite of the two I tried and is definitely a meat lover's dream, especially if you like thin-crust pizza. The other slice was the Sicilian ($7.29), with pepperoni, jalapeños, onions, and a ground meat (I can't quite remember which kind), along with cheese crumbles. Well sometimes, no matter how good the food is, some places are just not worth it. My wife and I have been ordering from here for quite some time. In the beginning, everything was great. We got our pizza made perfectly. Delicious pies almost as good as NY pizza. Delivery was amazing. They would tell us 30-45 min and it came in 20. Never failed. It was all great . . . Until it wasn't. We would call and be put on hold for no less than 15min. I've had to hang up and call again just to make the order. That was not just a one-time event. It's happened now several times. We are constantly trying to give them the benefit of doubt. My last 2 days with Purgatory Pizza have been the worst. Being told I can't get delivery, the online ordering is only for pickup. There is no more consistency. We're going to try others. Too bad. They need to get their customer service together. read more

He also had the classic version, The White Iverson and agreed that the W.R. was next level. I enjoyed the Vegan & Sara (loaded with a lot of goodness) as well, but not nearly as much. This version of the V&S had some nice vegan sausage The decor feels more lively, vibrant and like a full blend of the East side of LA. They have good desserts in the form of cookies, brownies, etc with vegan friendly offerings as well. Good refreshments from soft bottled and canned drinks/soda/pop, juices/jugos, and more, plus they have beer!!! It took me over a year to come back here after they mistakenly gave me a regular pizza instead of vegan. I finally went back and tried one of their vegan pastas I hadn't tried before, and there was meat in it (pancetta). I literally am feeling sick to my stomach--I'm pescatarian + non-dairy and stopped eating meat in 2013 so I'm sure you can imagine. The customer service was amazing and the cashier who helped me, Melissa, was so apologetic and sweet (obviously wasn't her fault), but this is just another warning to anyone who is vegan and considers coming here. I also came when they were about to close and already had to wait like 15min longer than they said so there's not even anything else open this late for me to find other food. Very disappointing and I will not be coming back for good this time. If I could give separate stars for customer service, I would give them 5 stars but this was unacceptable on the cook's part. Yes, the gluten-free pie is $32 BUT God rest my soul if this isn't the best gluten free crust I've ever had. It's thick, doughy, with the perfect amount of crisp and chew, with a beautifully rich peppery sauce on top. No one I've given a slice to could even tell it was gluten free. I just can't get over how it's this good. It's so good I don't even want to know what's in it. I need this in my life. All I know is I've got a mild gluten, milk (mozz ok), and egg allergy and I've never gotten sick here. And it's consistent, every time. I need them to start a subscription service or something I'm getting seriously addicted. Oh and bring a friend or save some for later because this one doesn't come by the slice. This was my first time eating in the restaurant. I would usually order pizza delivery when I worked in DTLA. My friends and I were near the neighborhood and I suggested we come to eat here. They agreed. My friends order the pizza half Sloppy Pig and the other half Hawaiian Express. I ordered my go to pizza the White Iverson (forgot to take photo). The pizzas were delicious as always!! The right amount of pizza crust and toppings ratio! The pizza was hot and cheesy!! We were very happy with our choices! I had never had the Sloppy Pig and it was amazing, so meaty and delicious! Atmosphere reminded me of a similar vibe in Long Beach, so it was really nice to see a more relaxed version of it that welcomed everyone. I would avoid the chooch special. Their Instagram post (as referenced in the attached) made it look like a regular pizza on their signature Purgatory box at an insanely discounted price. What you actually get makes much more sense. Barely any cheese (lots of Italian seasoning to compensate) in a non-descript, thin cardboard box. The crust is also pretty different and lackluster. My guess is that it had a minimal proof. Yelp formatting is weird, so it's not showing the pic below, but if you click for all my pictures, you can see a picture I've included of the Chooch special. Don't get me wrong, it's still an incredible value, what can you expect for $11, but at the same time, had I known this was what I would be getting, I'd have just stayed home and paid the $100 or whatever to have Uber Eats deliver me a pizza I'd actually eat instead of drive an hour for this trash. 5 stars because their other offerings are good, and I get it, Chooch special to drive traffic Mondays and Tuesdays so they can keep operating 7 days a week, blah blah, but don't use deceptive marketing. read more
