All steel companies sell new steel at a premium price. I am a welder and fabricator. This is the only place anywhere that sells used metal scrap at the going scrap price. When I have a strange project, I rummage through their scrap pile and find just the right stuff for my project. These guys sell quality steel to the big professionals as well as the hobbyist. No matter your project, you can get good steel, aluminum, or stainless for cheap. And the guys are courteous and helpful too. When I have a difficult project, I drive all the way from Battle Ground to get good service, good steel, for a cheap price... Thanks! read more

Not good. Material prices were not terrible but they charge 10$ for per cut, and they don't even wipe down or deburr the metal after cutting. The material sits outside and we all know what happens to metal in the rain. Staff was neither polite or easy to understand. I will not be coming back here again. read more

I was here yesterday, I too had read the negative posts about the rude people here. I had never been here, didn't know the routine, but asked one of the gentlemen in the yard & he cheerfully told me where to look & how to navigate thru their system. I was a later directed to the other side of the yard (I was looking for 2" plate), and I encountered Matt. What a wonderful, friendly, & knowledgeable guy He is. They have a good selection and are much cheaper than online prices; however, they do not make you feel comfortable. It was my first time there, and the guy in the office laughed at me that I did not see the scale when I went into the office to ask where it was. I was a little reluctant to go here because I'm just getting into welding, I've never been to a steelyard, and there were a couple of bad reviews in google. The bad reviews complained about some "rude Mexican guy". Part of me wondered if this was just racism on the part of the reviewers, now that I've seen the place I'm pretty sure that's what was going on. Either that or the rude guy wasn't there that day, or doesn't work there anymore. I pulled up, hopped out of my truck and asked the two Latino guys operating the bandsaw how things worked. They were both super nice and patient with me. They explained that the "rem" stuff (i.e. scrap) was by the pound, just grab some set it on the scale by the office and they'll weigh it up, it was 50 cents a pound, but I'm sure that varies with the market. They said if I wanted new stock to just order it in the office and pay and the guys by the saw would cut it to size for me. I'm including all this so that people reading this will know how things work. It wasn't super intuitive, but certainly wasn't complicated. I picked out a few pieces of scrap from the "rem" section that I thought I could use for welding practice, put them on the scale and walked into the office. They were super nice and friendly, the guy working the register confessed that it was his first day on the job and I told him I'd never done this either, so I think we were both pretty patient. He ended up accidentally ringing up my order wrong which I figured out when I talked to the cutters. Back in the office, the woman at the other register was really nice and straightened things out, I ended up not having quite enough cash and she said "don't worry about it" and took what I had rather than run my card. I can't remember the last time a business did that kind of thing for me, but it's the kind of treatment that makes me want to recommend a place and come back. The prices were great, about half of the what I found online at "metal supermarkets" and 50% less than some other online options. They did charge a fee to cut the steel, so if you need a lot of small pieces it could add up, but in my case it wasn't a big deal. If you're new to metal and welding, don't be intimidated, this was a much friendlier experience than I expected. read more

In the past 10 years I've been to Clackamas Steel more times than I can really justify to myself given how rude and unhelpful they can be. The man who works in the office acts like he despises being there. Their cut charges have always been on the high end but their recent increase to $5 PER CUT regardless of the thickness of the material is the final straw for me. If you want new steel, or smaller remnants, I strongly recommend Eastside Steel instead. I've been there about 10 times in the past couple of months and each time their staff have been incredibly helpful and friendly. A bonus is that their prices on new steel seem to be about 20-30% cheaper than Clackamas' and their cut charges are proportional to the thickness of what they are cutting (starting at $1 for thin material like 1/2" tube). Clackamas Steel does have a large amount of scrap, it's all sitting out in the open and so is heavily corroded but if this is what you're looking for and you can get in/out without having to have much interaction with the staff, then it may work for you but I owe it to myself to stop going. EDIT: in response to the review from Josh re: racism. I'm personally fine with all races, creeds and colors. If the staff at a store are friendly I could probably go as far as tolerating them having Fox News blaring in the background ;-) but the employees at Clackamas Steel can be really obnoxious. read more

I spoke with Alberto and his customer service was extremely rude arrogant. I could not hear him and he chose to yell into the phone and I asked him to not talk to me that way I am a customer and he chose to talk over me and began to yell in the phone again. I said I am a customer I deserve better. He said you won't tell me what you want I told him I no longer need his services because he was extremely rude. read more

Pretty decent place to get scraps and mild steel. The guys have always been helpful to me and never had a problem. I dont buy much mild steel, but when I do I will always give them a try. They do not carry any hardenable steel for my needs, but have always found what I need for projects. read more

Love this place! Pretty busy when they first open in the morning but still a great place to poke around and find all kinds of treasures! Bring your gloves and a bucket to carry your stuff! Way cheaper than buying new and the rusty patina is perfect! And the guys that work there are very helpful! They will cut shorter lengths for you to transport for a very reasonable charge! Very negative experience. After collecting a few pounds of scrap, I went to pay. When I asked the guy in the office about the scale in the front he starts yelling at me that there was another scale on the side of the building. And, I mean yelling--load and angry. After weighing the scrap, I tried to explain that this was my first time there and that there was no need to yell at me. He continued with a loud and angry voice. I weld - and this is my go to place for recycled metal. They have a large selection of new metal as well. It is like a treasure hunt...bins and bins of used metal of every type. You put your selections on the scale and go in and pay the gentleman. It is a very busy place and he is all business. I have made some comments to him and made him smile. If I lived closer I would be there every day. Best prices for used metal. Charges going rate by weight. I suppose if you are sensitive by nature you may be put off by his fast, all business like demeanor...to bad because it is an awesome place and he has never said anything rude. read more

This is a great steel yard says this artist from Detroit where we knew steel. Lots of scrap and stock sizes. Reasonable prices. Helpful yard staff. Good variety of metals. Wandering among the bins and sheds is encouraged. read more
