The representative was slow to respond, couldn't clearly explain why the pickup date changed, and after a lengthy conversation claimed the order had been updated and would be available for pickup that day. When I asked a follow-up question, the chat was abruptly closed. I then called the store. The first employee I spoke with was not particularly friendly or helpful. Before I could fully explain why I was calling, I was interrupted and spoken over, then placed on hold without any explanation. A second employee eventually took the call and confirmed the item was not actually in the store and that I would need to wait. When I began explaining my frustration with the experience and why the changing pickup date had impacted my plans, there was still no effort to explain what had happened or acknowledge the inconvenience. After I mentioned that I would rather cancel the order, it was canceled immediately without any attempt to address the issue or offer an alternative solution. What bothered me most wasn't the delay itself--things happen. It was the complete lack of communication, explanation, or concern from the three different people I spoke with. No one could tell me why the date changed, no one seemed interested in helping, and no one appeared to care that I had chosen Lowe's based on the promised pickup timeline. If the store manager or owner reads these reviews, my recommendation would be to focus less on the cancellation itself and more on how customers are treated when something goes wrong. Inventory and logistics issues happen. A little communication, empathy, and professionalism would have made this a completely different experience. Disappointing.

One (forget which one) thought they had seen such poles at Blasen & Blasen. I called and found that they did carry them. The best surprise was that when I went to pick up the poles, they were of a quality FAR exceeding my expectations - very uniform in diameter and having a very smooth surface finish. I was expecting peelers and these were real 'poles', ideal for my planned use as poles for equestrian jumps. Their staff was kind and helpful, and their product was exceptional compared to what I had seen when I visited a farm store. Please consider checking with Blasen & Blasen for your lumber needs. They are wholesale but I believe you'll find the quality worthwhile.

Now, three years later, the "stiles are separating from the curved top rail" (their diagnosis). The door is coming apart and no longer swings freely. They have told me that the door is out of warranty and there's nothing that they can do. I need to find another company and pay that company to fix THEIR poor quality product. I find it extremely poor business to sell a product that they refuse to stand behind. As for "customer service", I had to initiate contact throughout the entire process. Their response was never timely or proactive.

I received the doors sooner than expected. The customer Service was exceptional. They worked around my schedule and I always got a human when I called. During the process each time I had a question or an issue Conor addressed it immediately and took care of me. The pricing was fair and I am pleased with the product.

Which if you don't know, craftsman is just another way to say needs a lot of fucking work. So here my husband and I are, the blind leading the blind, down this humbling road we call home ownership. Until we got married our "tools" consisted mainly of a screwdriver set from IKEA. Although we've come a long way, we have even longer to go. Enter: the tool library. Portland's gift to the newly married, broke, and DIY impaired or dabbler. The tool library, as you might have guessed, is basically a library of tools you can check out for a week at a time for a suggested donation of $1. All of the tools have been donated making it a hodgepodge of all kinds of things. They have a non comprehensive list on their web site to help you get a gist of what they offer. They have all the basics covered. This particular tool library is just for us folks in North Portland, which you need to prove by way of mail and an ID. I gather from combing the internet that our tool library is a little underdeveloped in comparison to others in town. Us north Portlanders are roughing it, but we'll take what we can get with a smile. We couldn't be more thankful this place exists. This place is run by friendly volunteers, bless their hearts. For this reason rules can be a bit fuzzy. For example, being able to renew tools over the phone vs. in person can vary from person to person depending who's manning the desk. I'm not complaining mind you, just a PSA to be patient and gracious with these volunteers. After all, if they weren't there you wouldn't have any darn tools to starts with. A great resource if you've got big dreams of fixing things and you're manned with an IKEA screwdriver.

I immediately stopped the install and contacted them. They wanted me to wait 3 weeks before they would send someone out to inspect it. I decided to not wait because I didn't want a floor that was not waterproof. I took pictures of everything and save all the damaged pieces. After submitting my warranty claim, they never sent anyone out, and denied me based on the pictures I submitted. They made up a story about how I must have a water leak under my floor. The manager "Jared" promised me that he would give me free transition strip for my new floor that I bought. Then a week later he said that he never said that. I will never shop here again, and I tell all my customers about my experience and tell them not to shop here either. Typical corporate America not caring about you. Don't shop here, you've been warned.

I realized I needed help after several hours in the hot sun. After getting bids from three other gardening providers on Yelp, I ended up choosing Joseph. And am I glad I did! He came out and after walking through my overgrown pollinator garden, he gave me a quote which was pretty much consistent with the others. Big difference? He communicates well, he is ethical, he shows up on time, works hard, cleans up afterward. He is also a nice man who cares about the quality of what he does. Joseph is knowledgeable about many plants and trees. To his credit, when he encountered one he wasn't familiar with, he set about educating himself so he would do things right. He pruned my Mock Orange, Oregon Grapes, my Japanese Maple, a wildly out of control espaliered Apple tree, thinned out some fading seasonals, and pulled up a dying azalea I'd tried, but failed, to bring back. Then pulled out the overgrown weeds from my curb and sidewalk to make it all look more tidy. I'll be calling Joseph again, absolutely. You should, too. My before photos aren't uploading after three tries. Hmmmm. Trust me though, things were out of control.

I've had some pretty good experiences with Shur-way and got some great deals... You just have to look for the deals. 90% of the staff is pretty great, I've run across one staffer who I didn't click with, and now I just go to the same person who's been a big help. I've asked for delivery with a forklift, and 2 times it didn't show up, but the driver was skilled enough to drop my order without any problem on the exact spot I needed without it. They call it Building Center, but don't expect it to be Home Depot- there are several items they don't carry, and for some things you are better off going to Home Depot, but if you're looking for wood and wood related products, Shur-way is great. read more

I've been shopping at the Shurway in Vancouver for about 5 years and have just started using the Portland locations as well. It's a bit smaller and the selection is a bit thinner, but the staff is friendly and helpful. They made sure I got a good deal on the materials for a roof I was redoing and Jose was super helpful in loading my trailer and making sure everything was secure. read more

We were set on building a raised planting bed, but were also set on avoiding pressure treated boards with traces of arsenic. So... cedar or redwood it was. Unimpressed by the selection at the big box stores (Lowe's didn't even have cedar), I called a few lumber yards and fencing suppliers before deciding that Custom Cedar Products appeared to have the best combination of quality lumber and competitive prices. Even over the phone, the customer service was great. They helped me find an economical grade of lumber that was right for the job, a good quality board with cosmetic defects on one side. When we arrived at the yard, we were promptly greeted and they quickly loaded our (borrowed) truck. We didn't need any cutting done, but they definitely had equipment on site to customize an order. We will return to Custom Cedar Products for future projects and I recommend them without hesitation.

However, I guess customer service ends when you want to exchange defective product. I bought a 2X6X10 piece of clear cedar that cost $50. I took it home, cut off about a foot of it to use for my banister and then started sanding it. I noticed then that there were pretty severe cracks on both sides. I tried sanding both sides to see if I could sand it down far enough to hide the cracks but they were just too deep. I took the board back today, expecting a fair exchange. I was told that since I had cut the end off of the board, they could not exchange it. I explained that that was the order a person would use to make a banister. Cut it to length and then sand. As I said, I tried to use the board by sanding it down but these cracks are very deep on both sides. I was told back I could come back on Monday and talk to someone else but they were not going to exchange it or call someone about exchanging it. Not sure how this will turn out on Monday but at this point, I am out $50 and have no banister for a project that is supposed to be done in 6 days. Very, very, unhappy. Update: We returned the board during the week when the owner was there. He said they would normally credit back the length of board that was left which makes sense in a case where the homeowner cut the board and then wanted to return it for another. He did however in this case allow us to swap out the defective board for another. In the end, we were satisfied with the outcome.

They have given themselves the nickname "the woodworkers's candy store." They have both domestic woods as well as exotic woods. They also have plywood, marine grade wood, veneers, and more. If you are looking for wood floors, cabinets, counters, or decks, this could be the place for you. I visited their showroom and got a wonderful introduction to their store and products. The company has been around since 1907 which is very impressive. They work with importers and they also have their own mill. The staff was wonderful in explaining the benefits or drawbacks of different kinds of trees for hardwood, as well as the pros and cons of engineered wood. I don't know that I am in the hardwood floor tax bracket quite yet, but I love seeing all of the options. I find showrooms like this to be quite inspirational regardless. It would be a dream to one day have a live edge wood slab and they have some wonderful large pieces for that.
