The house salad advertised as mixed greens was entirely spinach with one piece of lettuce. Strange... The croutons were pretty soft and uncrisp. The menu was more a confusing mishmash of chalkboards and various signs, but that being said they have a lot of options, so chances are you'll find SOMETHING you like here- even though it's vegetarian. You're brought your food, but it's primarily self serve which does help speed things along. I ordered the Avocado Plus salad which was decent, but the tofu and croutons were quite greasy and weighed the salad down. A very good burrito. A below average for consumption vegan chocolate cake with cream cheese and topped with raspberry jam. This was an interesting game of spot the cream cheese in this cake. When the waitress came to our table I enquired as to the whereabouts of elusive cheese. She first offered an opinion that it's simply dropped in blobs throughout. When I advised her that I had in fact found 2 miniscule pieces of blob but they had the texture of a marshmallow, she quickly informed me that she has no idea what the baking team does and she has no interest either. The scrapping of raspberry jam was a nice addition for colour perhaps but unfortunately not enough to save this attempt, despite the incognito cheese. I've had many versions of vegan chocolate cake before. It's usually very enjoyable, this cardboard tasting cake was simply as offensive to my taste buds as that waitress was to the business and hospitality in general. TLDR: food is good, cozy atmosphere. it's about as expensive as you'd expect a vegan gluten free restaurant in a liberal city to be; i was shocked when i found out it wasn't millennial owned. but for the love of god, why are there not napkins included in the to go boxes by default when you're selling the messiest god damn sandwiches in the tri-state area? the date was september 23rd, 2025. my boyfriend and i are walking the streets of new haven after leaving the YUAG, hungry, with about 25 minutes to spare before we had to leave. we stop by this restaurant, and order the CLT sandwich and the falafel pita pocket, along with some drinks and pastries. all in TO GO boxes, mind you. the person ringing me out asks if i want utensils, i'm taken aback by that question. "do i need utensils for a sandwich? probably not, right? it's a sandwich." i think to myself. i say "no thank you!" and go to stand with my boyfriend to wait for my food. we get our food, walk back to the car, and drive to a parking lot where we could eat in his car. my boyfriend is greeted by a small forest of lettuce when he opens his box. neither one of us can tell what/where his food is supposed to be underneath the thick foliage. he eventually digs out an open, barely folded piece of pita bread and falafel. not exactly a "pocket" per say, more of a taco. that's fine, not a big deal, but i go to open my sandwich. what's in my box is one slice of bread with several loose cubes of tofu on top just rolling around unsecured, and one skyscraper sized pile of sandwich ingredients with a slice of bread at the very bottom. in a small container on the side, there's a jelly looking substance. presumably for the sandwich, as it doesn't come with any sides. so i assemble my sandwich, dropping tofu cubes everywhere, questioning why they didn't just put the cubes on the other side of the sandwich, and venture a bite. the sandwich starts dripping, no, POURING a steady stream of liquid. i cannot hold the sandwich in a way that prevents this, and it gushes when i take a bite, but that's okay, the box is waterproof and big enough that its catching the liquid. my boyfriend and i usually take bites of each others food when we try new restaurants, we spend no shorter than a minute and a half trying to figure out how to do this exchange. it takes roughly 3 minutes for him to take 1 (one) bite of my sandwich, and vice versa. so we each finish about half of our meals before deciding we're just gonna finish the sandwiches at home, and that's when it dawns on us. there are no napkins in either of our bags. we're in shock, flabbergasted, why in gods name would you create such an unintuitive to go box? why are there loose tofu cubes on the side of the sandwich that i'm supposed to flip over? why was there an actual salad's worth of lettuce that could not possibly fit in the provided pita bread on my boyfriend's sandwich? we're stuck with absolutely sticky hands, my boyfriend digs a single napkin out of the glove box, which i use to wipe my hands just enough to be able to exit the car and get napkins from the gas station we stopped at. i don't know how to conclude this review, there is no moral, no lesson. 3.5 stars, would be 4 if the prices weren't so egregious read more

Went to Claire's before Hurricane Henri to load up on food since everything was shutting down. Ordered a bunch of different things for multiple people. Told them that we were saving everything for the next day so they did not heat anything up. Coffee cake/carrot cake: huge portions, very sweet though (too sweet for me personally). Definitely need a drink or something to balance out the sweetness, but taste was good. The lady was nice enough to give me another slice when mine fell on the floor. Chipotle bowl- forgot the name but got a Mexican inspired bowl. Flavors were good but it made my stomach upset...not sure if it was because we kept it overnight (in the fridge though and thoroughly heated the next day) Quesadilla- when they said they would give us the food cold I still expected the food to be cooked, as the other dishes were. To my surprise when I opened the quesadilla box, it was totally uncooked. They just gave us a tortilla with cheese and spinach.....all raw.....see pic. It was honestly pretty funny but considering there was the possibility of power loss we did expect the food to still be cooked so we could eat it cold if it came down to that.... Quiche- solid quiche and flaky crust, probably my favorite dish. Liked the veggies in it Definitely an interesting experience to say the least, food is decent and they have a ton of variety so would be back to try more. This place used to be my favorite place to eat desserts last 20 years, their food is mostly organic and always tasty. However today it was very disappointing, the girl at the cash register who took our order was keep touching the cash register with money in it and to her face. The she took the knife, washed it with water, no soap with her dirt hands and cut the cake slices we ordered. I didn't feel like eating them after seeing that and end up throwing them away, what a waste of money. My last visit for a long time. They should be able to control those who work with them as the customers deserve a cleaner service. It doesn't matter how good or bad the stuff taste if it is not clean. A family member purchased a gift certificate for me and when we went to use it today the cashier (after several attempts to redeem it) explained that "they were having difficulty" using the QR code and called the owner over. The employee told Claire the staff had been having some difficulty redeeming the certificates but usually were able to redeem them. Claire was rude,unprofessional and never apologized to me for the inconvenience. Instead, Claire was indignant that the certificate was a scam and walked away. I was embarrassed by the situation yet because the employees tried helping me I did pay. My son later told me I should've walked out due to Claire's indifference and rudeness. I used to come here all the time for years. I made a large to go purchase of pastries and a hot entree from a very nice person behind the counter, who gave me my coffee and pastries. Her colleague brought my entree out and it was cold. I said in a fully polite way "oh, this is cold, I had hoped to get it served hot" and this second employee unloaded invectives and condescension, bizarrely chastising me for ordering before closing time but near it, blaming me in a multi-sentence rant for her error (which a third employee backed up with a comment). I asked to return the cold entree for a refund (it is actually very overpriced for what it is, but I had been happy to pay for what was before today a good ambiance and decent service), again politely and I was again met with unprofessional rudeness. I appreciate that one out of three employees. I don't go to cafes to be treated rudely. I could make coffee at home and order delivery if I wanted to avoid human interaction! Sadly I will now have to avoid Claire's CornerCopia. I have gone there for many years and almost certainly spent more than a thousand dollars there. I will never come back. This is an updated review from about a year ago. I've been here a few times since the pandemic. They closed the shop for a while to clean and reorganize and it shows. Everything looks cleaner and easier to navigate. The menu, while still mind-boggling, is much easier to read. Tables are set up distanced but I've only taken out. There is one way in and another out at this time. I posted pictures of the items I've purchased recently, a Spicy Buffalo Burrito and a Fire Island Sandwich. The. burrito was excellent-had it for two meals. The sandwich was sparsely populated, but good. The side couscous salad was delicious. The counter was full of baked goods. I suppose that regulars here would have an easier time of it. For me, the extensive menu written on a big board for which you have to crane your neck upward was annoying; as was the additional signage all over the place. Then there's the matter of how the display cases were set up including one placed at a far end which could easily be missed. Wasn't sure where to order, a little chaotic and it wasn't even busy. The employees were really friendly, nice, and helpful though. The quesadillas were really good but I thought the burrito bowl was nothing more than a bowl of refried beans, cheese, guacamole, and sour cream. I had the pleasure of having dinner at Claire's Corner Copia last night. This cafe is a great breakfast, lunch, or dinner option for anyone, particularly someone on a plant-based diet. It is located right in the heart of downtown and has lots of seating by the windows with views of the New Haven Green and Chapel Street. The interior features decor from local artists and pieces that are specific to New Haven. I had one of the specials, which was a soy chicken pot pie. It was fully vegan and was delicious! The pastry on top was so good, I couldn't get enough of it. Claire's also gives you bread with your entree and it's one of the best parts of the whole experience. The service did take a while for everyone at our table and the food wasn't as hot as I would have preferred but overall I had a good experience here. I was back in Connecticut last weekend and thanks to an event in the area and a friend who suggested meeting here, I was finally able to give this place a go after a 4 year absence. This place was packed on a Saturday night but they were pretty fast with getting everyone's order taken and I settled on ordering the fire island sandwich which consisted of roasted spicy buffalo soy with roasted bell peppers and some different cheeses to make for one monstrous sandwich. This was my first time getting this thing and it absolutely blew my expectations out of the water. The buffalo tofu was absolutely delicious and so was everything else used to make this sandwich so tasty. The food was fantastic, the staff was quick and friendly, and the cafe itself is Connecticut in its best way possible. We used to eat here many years ago, like in the early 2000's, and loved it then. We visited in 2023 and were looking forward to eating there again. It still appears to be a popular place based on the long lines and how many people were eating there. Sadly, I can't say anyone in our party enjoyed it. The food presentation was sloppy and tasted "just ok". Vegan and vegetarian cooking has come a long way in the decades of the past, but this style of food looked like it was stuck back in the days when vegetarian cooking was anything but pretty looking; like the 70's. There are an overwhelming amount of choices at this establishment for both food and beverages. The staff is friendly and accommodating to anyones needs. The deli items look unappetizing, knowing they had been premade and would likely suffer the warming of a microwave or some other device that would zap it of it's fresh taste. The desserts and pastries also lack the appearance of anything to be desired. If I took a non-vegetarian/vegan to this place they would think "wow, food does not have to look this sad and depressing. Why the three stars, because Vegans/vegetarians have to eat somewhere in New Haven and not worry about what's in their food. I would hope this is not where their choices end. read more

The menu is so extensive- it was truly hard to choose from so many appetizing and homey options. In fact, I even went up to the board afterwards to check the ingredients list because I couldn't believe it was just plain old mozzarella in the quesadilla, I was convinced there must be some super secret yummy ingredient. My boyfriends choice- the tostada- however was a miss. The beans and sauce made the tostada too soggy and the quantity of beans was just a little overkill. It tasted slightly bland. We still found our dinner to be well priced and filling and in the whole really wonderful. I wish I had room for dessert because the slices of cake looked amazing. I'd be back to try some more. It really pains me to leave this review since I've been going to Claire's since childhood. Wait times have been progressively longer, traditional menu items are not the same, meal are missing sides, and hours don't accommodate dinner. I think they've outgrown the space they are in - the seating and ambiance is quaint and it's on a nice corner in downtown New Haven, but it's almost always crowded when I go. As far as catering goes, I had a particularly negative experience. Being such a fan of the food at the time, I called Claire's 6 months in advance to have them cater my micro-wedding of 12 people. I asked for 4 trays of food and some desserts. I was told to call 24 hours before the event. I called two weeks before the event to check again and was told (again) to call 24 hours before. The day before my wedding, 24 hours in advance, I called and was told they cannot accommodate my order. This literally threw off my entire plan and I had to rush around day of to find someone who was able to make something for us - thankfully edge of the woods saved the day. Despite that experience, we continued to go to Claire's and have been pretty disappointed. All of that being said, they are a great option for plant based peoples and a classic New Haven spot. Worth a try if you're in the mood for some staple meals. read more

Their chocolate cupcake tastes like a normal cupcake to me, as well as their carrot cake. But their cookies and scones typically taste more plain, or "vegan-ish" The quiche was good, but nothing I would order again.
