Great gluten free options! I tried the pancakes and had to ask if they really were gluten free. They were so delicious! My husband and I shared potatoes mixed with veggies which were also very good. We all enjoyed our food. Our server was friendly and not at all bothered by how busy they were. She kept up and checked on us appropriately. Food was delicious. Ordered the French toast and it was made just like it was prepared at home. My wife ordered the biscuits and gravy and that was delicious as well. The price was great. We came as a party of 7 on a Sunday afternoon and there was a bit of a wait as the place was jammed packed but totally worth it. This place was so bad. My parents and I ate there for lunch. The service right off was terrible, and the restaurant felt sticky.. everywhere. Then my moms iced tea came with a lemon (as they do) but the lemon was brown! I also ate a roast beef sandwich and the meat looked green. Food (great) + Service (crappy) = 3 stars Let's start positive: the food was REALLY good. Vegetarian gravy/options is always a nice touch, especially when they offer biscuits and gravy. Those who have read my previous reviews know about my love affair with this gut-gasket. Good hash browns, good portion, size, overall yummy factor. Now for the crappy part: Mean-server-lady. I can usually de-crabby servers by being polite, and non-demanding because I was them once. Don't bother here - she's a mean crabby lady and she likes it that way. No it's not charming. In fact, it actually affects the quality if your meal when the server is a turd. Also, I'm pretty sure, breakfast at 10 a.m. on a Sunday morning should not take 2 hours. Pretty sure, unless you fall asleep at the table or something. You could say that we chatted away the morning and forgot the time - but you'd be wrong. What's more likely is we sat for 15 minutes before mean-server-lady takes our order, 10 minutes later mean-server-lady brings our coffee. 45 minutes after this (do the math, we're talking 1 hour + 10 minutes so far) our food arrives - maybe they had to persuade the chickens to lay eggs? Water glasses go dry. So does the coffee. Then another half hour after that...we have to chase down mean-server-lady to request our check. This place would be a repeater, but if mean-server-lady walked up to the table...I would walk out. Just sayin'. read more

I love this place. I've eaten breakfast here dozens, if not hundreds of times. There is nothing extravagant about it, but just solid, comfort food. The strawberry waffle is still my favorite anywhere I've been (the Klickers' strawberries certainly help). Some friends have had some bad experiences (e.g., JD with mashed potatoes hashbrowns), but I consider them to be aberrations. As others have noted, you'll generally have a wait, particuarly so on weekends. But I've never regretted waiting. read more

Amazing Food. Great for vegetarians. Most of the dishes with meat can be substituted for a veggie-meats (such as stripples, fri-chick, etc). Which is awesome, especially at breakfast. Additionally, some of the items, like the "biscuit and gravy" gravy is also available for vegetarians. And if that's not awesome enough... the food is tasty!!!! If your going on a Saturday or Sunday morning, especially on a holiday like father's day, expect to wait outside for a table. But it's well worth it. read more

A cute little diner and a popular breakfast spot. Felt very homey. We met here with some family on a Sunday morning and were seated right away, we barely missed the mob of people who soon followed. I debated between the pumpkin pancakes and crepes. I ended up ordering the pumpkin pancakes, mostly because Yelp had 10+ reviews mentioning them. The first couple bites were delicious, but the closer I got to cutting into the center of them revealed they were still completely left raw and uncooked inside. I usually don't like to make a fuss, but they really weren't edible. The waitress grabbed up the place and had me another stack in no time. This time they were cooked perfectly, and the real whipped cream is wonderful. I do have to note, however, they do NOT taste of pumpkin. They taste like gingerbread! I taste all the spice, but no real pumpkin flavor. Still delicious, but rather misleading to someone who might be expecting something else. I keep trying to love Clarettes, but I just can't. Being a college student, I've been here a handful of times, but the meal has never lived up to my expectations. Every time I leave Clarettes, I say, "I never need to come back again." First of all, the wait can be OUTRAGEOUS for food. I once waited an hour and a half for my date and I's breakfast to come out. Granted, they were busy but and hour and half wait on some pancakes is unreasonable. The staff is very kind and attentive but I've found every meal there to be mediocre. Mediocre pancakes, mediocre eggs... With a bubbling hip town like Walla Walla, I would love to see Clarettes step up to the plate and be a competitive restaurant. read more

Just ate at Clarette's and can say that I love everything about this place. We got there about 11:30 and got seated immediately. Had the loveliest older lady (white hair in an up-do) as our waitress who came over right away for our drink order and then a few minutes later, once we were ready to order came back promptly. Right off the Whitman College campus this diner is awesome! Super friendly and helpful staff, great food, clean business. We had been travelling for hours, and both were craving a salad for lunch. These were not just your open a bag and dump on the plate salads. They were tasty, filling, and fresh. Mom had some clam chowder as well. It was made by Ivars, a Washington staple, and she said it was mighty tasty. Being allergic to pork, sadly I could not taste the bacon based soup. We were full for the rest of the day. That did not stop us from eating more later, after all we were traveling. They had so many options to choose from: breakfast could include traditional American foods, crepes, omelets, etc. Lunch and dinner could include soup, salad, American sandwiches, European sandwiches, wraps, burgers, and many different entrees. There was something for everyone on this menu. The rooms were big and there was no wait. The floors and tables were clean. The waitress was nice. We really enjoyed our time here. read more

Clarette's is a nice little country-style diner serving up standard breakfast favorites. My friend and I arrived shortly after the completion of the Balloon Stampede launch and although the restaurant was busting at the seams shortly after our arrival, the servers didn't act harried and the wait times really weren't bad given the circumstances. The menu offered V-8, which I sipped while trying to remain balanced on a serious tear in the booth's vinyl seat. For a small extra charge one can receive Clarette's hashbrowns "covered" (with bacon & cheese) or "smothered" (with country gravy) and I highly recommend choosing at least the latter option. The hashbrowns are excellent, as is the gravy. Scrambled eggs with ham were acceptable but not amazing and I was disappointed that my request for added cheese was forgotten (though I chuckled that it was still charged to my bill for 25 cents!) My friend's Skillet Breakfast received similar mediocre marks, but her biscuit was reportedly excellent. read more

Growing up in Walla Walla this is one of grandmas favorite places to go in town. Definitely an older feel but still doesn't feel old and dirty and gross. The waitresses are mostly older women who are some of the nicest people I've met! My grandma and I religiously get apple crepes and I highly recommend them! Last time I was there I decided to not get my usual and got a steak and it wasn't bad either. Really good breakfast place! And they serve breakfast all day so if you feel like breakfast for dinner you should head down there and try it out. read more

Stopped by for a quick dinner during a recent visit to Walla Walla. Ordered hot tea and a bowl of garden vegetable soup. The tea and soup were hot and tasty. The waitress, Rose, was super sweet. My wife and I went there with my Aunt Monday night. The staff was great, the service prompt. The atmosphere felt safe with spaced seating, masked staff, customers masked while walking about. The food was delicious, what was supposed to be hot was hot (soup, shrimp) what was supposed to be cool was (salad). The only negative was an annoying fly that kept buzzing us. We popped in here when visiting Whitman, it is right by the school. The food was somewhere between standard and poor dinner food. My salad was supposed to have "Bay shrimp." Turned out to be those little frozen shrimp, pretty gross. My son had a french dip which was just ok. While Walla Walla is not filled with fine dinning, it seems like there are better places downtown. read more
