I don't hand out five start reviews easily. Clarette's is hands-down my favorite breakfast restaurant because the staples of breakfast: eggs, bacon, pancakes & hash browns, are *spot on*. One would think that any greasy spoon can do hashed browns, but my requirements include perfect crisping on top and bottom, as well as no off-taste from whatever oil they are using. Hot all the way through, potatoes not soggy or limpid. Clarette's has got it right, by jove! Not to mention that wait staff is very friendly, fills your coffee promptly, and they have strawberry syrup from local Klicker strawberry fields on the tables. The atmosphere is lively, filled with locals, students, after-church-goers, families & wine lovers, and though the decor is dated, the furniture seems comfortable enough. I live in Seattle and have access to an uncountable number of breakfast spots, and Clarette's is still my favorite. THIS is the meal you need before you go out for a long day of wine tasting... or maybe it's the right prescription for the day after! Ah the unmistakable pleasure of a belly replete with a perfectly cooked breakfast. Stopped at Clarettes located right next to Whitman College, thanks to Yelp reviews. Wanted an early afternoon omelet to sustain me on the road from Walla Walla to Bend. Clarettes delivered! I ordered the mushroom omelet with light cheddar and a side of fruit. The omelet was overflowing with sauteed mushrooms and just the right amount of cheddar. It came with pancakes or hash browns and toast or an English muff. I simply ordered dry rye, which was also perfectly toasted and hot when it was served. Though the fruit was typical melons, pineapple and oranges, they were all ripe and juicy and not the usual tasteless chunks. My husband licked his high cholesterol cornucopia clean; two eggs over easy, a generous rasher of bacon, hot crisp hash-browns and the same hot toast disappeared way before I chewed my last bite of cantaloupe. Clarette's is probably the best breakfast restaurant I have ever been to in my whole life. I moved to walla walla for a year and was introduced to clarette's through friends and was throughly surprised. I personally can not find a complete breakfast with just sweet (pancakes, waffles, etc) or just savory foods. I always loved to have a combination of both. At places like denny's and ihop i would always have to go through the trouble of substituting portions or ordering/paying for more food because i was always still hungry. At clarette's i found pure ecstasy with the "big walla walla" meal. It comes with three pancakes (if i can remember correctly) but my suggestion is have the pumpkin pancakes instead. eggs, hashbrowns, and bacon and sausage (but for those who prefer vegetarian meat they gladly oblige to your needs). Personally i feel that adding a side of corn beef has is the icing on the cake. However not only does the food come in generous proportions the taste is beyond delicious. Based on my Quality to Price ratio Clarette's destroys all competition. oh and the people who work there are generally the nice small town folk that a souther cali boy doesnt get to experience everyday. read more

Went here for a brunch with a few friends of mine on a more busy weekend. Given that it was busy, it was understandable that the wait for a table took some time. However, considering the quality of food and table service at the other brunch restaurants- even during busy weekend peak times- I think that my money is better spent elsewhere. The sandwich and fries I ordered still tasted like classic diner food should, but when it arrived my dining mates immediately starting eating the fries becasuse the wait was so long. read more

A few years ago my family and I visited Clarette's a few times and really enjoyed it. The food was good. We decided to go there for dinner last night, and were very disappointed. Although the staff are wonderfully friendly and the servicae was quick, the food left a lot to be desired. I was disppointed by the portion sizes on the kids meal fish and chips. For almost $8, my son was given only one piece of fish and a huge pile of fries big enough for probably two adult portions. We ordered another piece of fish for about $4.50, I think. My husband's and my food was okay. However, we both had hash browns and they were cooked inconsistently. Mine were barely browned, and his were nice and crispy. I was disappointed with mine. Also, a few onions had fallen into my meal, and I can't stand onions. It was a careless mistake, I think. Overall, it will be a long time before I go back to Clarette's. Stopped by Clarette's on our way out of town for breakfast / lunch. My wife ordered the Jamacian chicken salad and her bestie ordered Strawberry Crepe breakfast with eggs/sausage. I ordered the biscuits and gravy with scrambled eggs and sausage. The salad was HUGE and very tasty. The crepes were very good but bestie's eggs were a little runny. My biscuits and gravy and eggs and sausage were delicious. Our waitress Velma was very attentive and did a great job. We would recommend you eat here if you have a chance. read more

This is definitely a place where locals go to have brunch. Large portions and good homestyle cooking keeps this place bustling. I ordered the country-fried steak with eggs. This came with either hashbrowns and toast or 3 buttermilk pancakes; I opted for the latter. The country fried steak came crispy, piping hot and smothered in white gravy. Nice all-American dinner. We showed up around 4 so we were the only customers until about the time we got the bill. Prompt friendly service and food was delicious. I had the French dip and husband got the BBQ burger and both of us were happy with what we got. They were nice about substitutions and quick with drink refills. Our family are die hard Clarette's diners. Of course having eaten there so many times we have seen the best and the worst and in between. Nothing we have eaten there has ever made us say never again. Its clean, friendly, affordable and they welcome our toddler with crayons! Breakfast is truly their specialty and if you go on a weekend morning there will be at least 25 other people waiting with you who will agree. Be prepared to wait outside. If you pass up the pumpkin pancakes you are doing yourself a disservice. They have all the classics you'd find at any diner and a few local specialties like Klicker Strawberries and seasonals like huckleberry pancakes etc. Seattle's Best to wash it down. Be sure to ask for it by name! The Big Walla Walla surely wont dissappoint the hungriest in your party. Of course their are lighter options as well as great veggie dishes. I recently had a 2 egg omelet that was perfect! Oh and the hashbrowns with cheese and bacon? 5 stars! For lunch Id recommend the Turkey BLT. You can also get breakfast any time. Service was good but just a touch slow (maybe because I was soo looking forward this?) Anyway would definitely go back again. This is such a gem of a restaurant!! The food quality is really good and the portions are very generous. The salads are amazing and we love the pancakes. Unlike the small fruit portions that are given with the pancakes at IHOP, Clarette's gives mounds of strawberries and there is enough for every single pancake bite.
