First time at this place. Went in for lunch at around 1:30pm or so and it was packed. People dining in at the tables, at the bar counter and waiting for pick ups. The place is cozy. It seems a lot bigger from outside. There seems to be plenty of parking for the traffic it gets at this time. There are about 3 people taking care of the front of the house. They seemed to handle the crowd very well. I walked up to the counter to take see if I could get a menu and the guy that works there was pretty helpful. He made some suggestions and let me have a few minutes to order. I decided on the 1/2 chicken & 1/2 ribs w/ rice and cube fries. It took about 10 minutes to get my order. Not bad taking into mind how busy they were. Everything was awesome. High in salt but not in a bad way. Maybe in a not healthy for you way. The portion on this combo was huge. Enough for 2 even 3 people to share. So much rice and potatoes. The cube fries are like thick steak fries but cubed. The chicken literally fell of the bone. Thank god I had a plate under me while I was eating. I also tried a slice of the flan. It was so good and airy. Not the like any other type of flan I've had before. Almost like a sponge cake but it was definitely flan. I can't say I would eat at this place more than once or twice a month due to salt content, but it's worth a try if your in Clark. read more

Worst bbq joint ever. The food was dry with absolutely no flavor. I had to drowse my food in hot sauce, and even then it wasn't edible. The chicken wasn't cooked properly and it was quite under seasoned. When I asked for extra sauce, they brought me Tabasco sauce. Only reason I'm giving this place even 2 stars is because the customer service was alright and they gave a pile of food. My suggestion is that you save your money and go try out an authentic Portuguese bbq place. read more

They do a lot of takeout orders and have many dine-in customers. The portion size is huge! I give the chicken I order 4 stars - it's awesome and comes with 2 sides and everyone gets free dinner rolls. The chicken is always cooked through and is always fresh. The freshness is consistently awesome. The staff are all very pleasant. I came last Saturday and a party who came in after us was nearly seated before me. The host came over to personally apologize for his near oversight. The people who run this restaurant are genuine and generous. You won't leave hungry. I ordered the "whole" chicken tray & the whole ribs tray, it was all french fries and rice, there was barely any chicken or barely any ribs , not even enough to feed a small kid, on top of that the chicken was sooooooooo dry and way way way over cooked as well as the ribs, couldnt even chew it,was like eating stale beef jerky. So I have mixed feelings.... the BBQ is amazing. The crunchiest Fries, the tastiest rice and cheese cake also very yummy. The one thing that I ordered that I just could not eat was the shrimp in Garlic sauce. I instantly ate one without hesitation after opening the to go container. The sauce was so good, but then a split second of disappointment came over me as I noticed the shrimp and realized none of the shrimp were properly cleaned, and let me just explain.... the poop was still in them.... you know that single black line wrapping around the inside of the transparent shrimp.... Wow. Amazing! Amazing! Amazing!! Lots of food for a really affordable price. Ordered the half ribs and half chicken with rice and corn as sides. You can choose rice, corn, fries, salad or broccoli for the side dishes. Amazingly, the food came in no later than 10 minutes. The chicken was super tasty and tender. The ribs were really soft but a but a bit greasy. Nonetheless, all tasted amazing! The bbq sauce on the table is a must...If i can squirt it in my mouth I'd totally would hahaha. Location isn't the biggest so make sure you plan accordingly as the place tends to fill up quick. Ugh just thinking of this place makes me want to eat there now. Friendly service, check. I think a chicken order should fill one tray , rice beans and fries should be separate tray for about $18.00 bucks. There food is tasty but if you can figure a way to charge $20. Bucks tax and a 2 liter drink included. I guarantee you will watch your individual take out grow. Your profits reach 20 percent more next year. Don't deals on Groupon or any of them. The food here is sooo good. I ordered the bbq chicken dinner and the bbq rib dinner and it is enough food for 6 people. The chicken and ribs are seasoned perfectly. It might be easy to drive past the place and not give it a second look, but it will be your loss. Also, great value for the price. So much food and it's not expensive. With all the good reviews I figured I would give it a try and was disappointed. I stopped in and had the chicken cutlets to go with rice and fries. The chicken was dried out, maybe over cooked. I have to review while I'm eating this because it's so delicious and I don't want to forget what I have to say. I ordered to go because my work needed me and luckily its only a minute drive. My food came out in like 5 minutes waiting after ordering it 10 minutes ago when I called in for pick up. This is my first time having this even though they have 4 other locations and it did not disappoint. I ordered the half order of chicken cutlet with rice and steamed broccoli. It weighed about 2 and 3/4 lbs and once I started my car the rich smell just hit me like it was just inside the kitchen watching them cook it. It made me salivate. I rushed back to my office and opened it up that my coworkers smelt it around them. The chicken cutlets were grilled and moist. The half order came with 3 pieces, a ton of rice and massive pieces of juicy broccoli. Everything was in perfect harmony like a boys 2 men ballad. The half order should be a size of a full order because it was a lot. The restaurant itself is smaller than what it looks on the outside. They have about a little less than 20 parking spots, a couple booths to sit inside, and you can buy alcohol to go from here. They also have cheesecake, flan, chocolate cake, and parfait for dessert. We started the meal with a half pitcher of red sangria - surprisingly good and strong! Free dinner rolls when you dine in also, which was a nice touch. Food came out within 10 minutes of ordering on a LOADED plate. Ribs were delicious - the meat is very juicy and just falls off the bone. However, I found that both the chicken and ribs were a little flavorless, so I recommend eating it with the house chili sauce - it adds the perfect amount of tang and kick. The steamed broccoli florets we got were HUGE but well cooked. Rice was buttery and yummy, with plenty to share. The prices here are extremely affordable and you leave feeling stuffed - definitely my idea of comfort food. The service seems to be hit or miss, as we had to ask a few times for water and other tables seemed to be neglected at times. However, this can be forgiven for a small establishment such as Clark's. Best garlic shrimp!! This place is a staple in Clark,NJ. It is my favorite BBQ spot all around and their chicken is the best I have had (ironbound included). I love their portions and all the sides are awesome. Their beef cubes are so tender and bursting with flavor. The char on all their grilled meat is orgasmic. Very nice place to sit down and have dinner (you smell like charcoal after but it's worth it.) make sure you get their chorizo !! I write this review in hopes that the owners of this Portuguese BBQ place read it and take the criticism as a way to help improve their customer's experience. I came here hoping to get some great fire grilled chicken as I have had in other Portuguese style BBQ places in the region. Instead the chicken was dry and almost flavorless. I am not sure if it was sitting around for a while and just heated up or overcooked, but I was shocked at how far it was from other BBQ chickens I had in both flavor and moisture. I did have to wait about 25 minutes for my order to arrive. As I sat there I noticed a very large take out order being completed. Perhaps that is the reason it too so long and the chicken came out the way it did. I asked for very little rice, I got a mound of rice. I asked for vegetables instead of fries, I got very mushy peas and carrots. The kind that comes out of a can and gets heated up. I am not sure if that is the case here, but it was not appetizing at all. When the table next to me received their dish with rice and broccoli, I asked for broccoli instead of the peas and carrots. I received a side of broccoli, that I believe was microwaved. At least that is how it tasted. Finally, when one of the guys came over and asked how everything was, I showed him the "so so" sign, he said "everything is good then" and walked away. Please, if you really don't care how your customers are doing, don't come by and ask!! I say this place has potential because I was watching the guys work. They work hard and seem to be trying. While I was eating, I kept thinking this place could use one of those TV shows that comes in, teaches the owner and cooks, how to prepare the food properly and completely gut renovates the interior. As I said, this place has potential, and I would come back if they got their act together as I prefer to support small family type businesses that cook well. Great food and huge portions. The staff is patient and accommodating (because my family can get annoying and crazy!). The plates are small and they stack up the food, it gets difficult to eat.
