Chicken and ribs were delicious. The little pork things, I think picadiho? Tasted vinegar-y. Not what I expected from the description, not bad but also not good. Also got the sausage appetizer which was like super well done sausage slices and so good. The girl was pretty helpful when I called to order. She helped me figure out how much food I needed for the amount of people I needed to feed. They seemed really busy when I got into pick up. They could use an updated POS system. It's been at least 2 years since we last ordered from Clark BBQ because it was bland and dry last time. Over the weekend, we got the 1/2 chicken and 1/2 ribs platter with rice and cubed potatoes to-go, and the chicken was nicely flavored and juicy. Did we go to the wrong place?! :\ My husband and I finally went to this BBQ restaurant after it was recommended to us by his friend. We expected it to be a bigger place. We were seated promptly and checked the menu. The prices were reasonable! I ordered the 1/2 order of ribs with rice and fries. He ordered the chicken cutlet sandwich with fries. When my ribs arrived, they were all fatty, undercooked and didn't have any meat on them! I was very disappointed. I asked the waitress to change my order to the chicken cutlet instead. The worst BBQ I have ever tried. I have never eaten bad Portuguese BBQ until I tried Clark BBQ. I usually drive to North Plainfield or Newark for my BBQ but since Clark is much closer to my home I figured I would try it. The reviews seem good so I was excited to order the 1/2 Chicken 1/2 Ribs combo with a side of the Shrimp. The rice and fries aren't bad but the rest was so pungent I couldn't get more than one bite in without feeling disgusted. The chicken was so dry, poorly seasoned and the ribs were very greasy and smelled old...as did the shrimp, they were not fresh at all and they were covered in oil/grease. I threw it all out, I'm never going back. I would rather drive 1/2 hr to get good BBQ than ever try Clark BBQ again. read more

Lots of flavor packed into a tiny place I always get take out from this place, and its always excellent. The portions are huge and the price is great. I suggest getting half orders. The chicken is tender and delicious. French fries are crispy and they give your a huge side of excellent rice along with the chicken. My favorite dish here is the Piccadino Misto ( i know I misspelled this word and for that I apologize) which is the best. I highly recommend checking this place out for lunch or dinner. Chicken is always dry, no real flavor. The ribs, well I am at a bit of a loss on how to describe those. I live right around the corner and absolutely LOVE this place. The staff is so friendly, the food is excellent and the portions HUGE. I always get the half chicken. My husband orders the half chicken/half ribs and ends up taking a lot home. Recently we visited Pulaski BBQ in Ironbound just to compare. Got a full-size "picadinho misto" (pork cubes and shrimp) for take-out, so can't comment much on the restaurant ambiance or service. We called in the order about 15 minutes ahead and it was piping hot when we picked it up, plus they gave plates/utensils upon request. Pros: - MASSIVE portions: a full-size order is definitely enough to feed 2 people and probably still have leftovers (imagine a catering-size aluminum tray filled with rice/potatoes/meat) - Food is well-flavored with a delicious aroma: we brought our takeout to eat during a meeting and everyone started sniffing when we walked in. I especially liked the potatoes that had been cooked with the meat. Cons: - Should get rid of the pickled vegetables and olives. I had expected the vegetables to be cooked with the meat or, at worst, be plain-boiled, but the acidity counteracted the savoriness of the meat, not in a good way. - Meat was a bit fatty and overall food was a bit greasy (enough to bleed through two paper plates), so definitely not for those who are watching their waistlines or arteries Overall good value for a filling meal - I'd go back again if I happen to be in the neighborhood. read more

I Have been here many times before over the last ten years, but today was a big disappointment, I left work and met my husband to eat (my first meal of the day). We order steaks at 9:00 PM and were told the kitchen was closing and they will no longer serve steak. I could had stop at 10 other restaurant but I went there because it was only the two of us and their steaks are usually good. I go there only if I feel like having steak, well today I had soup and salad. Over the last few years their service it has been getting worse. We weren't offered refills on our empty water glasses or asked if we needed anything else after we got the food. Meanwhile the tables next to us were being asked if they needed anything more. Most of the items I've tried here are perfectly serviceable but not entirely memorable. MOST AMAZING FOOD EVER! One of the best portuguese food i've had in a long time. Me and my boyfriend came here after shopping at the ratitan shopping center and we dined in. I came on the recommendation of family before the strip mall explosion on Raritan road. They tore down the US Gypsum factory and laid down a new strip mall, but getting back to the Clark BBQ it was always a fill me up joint with few seating. They give you big Carbo portions of rice and fries. The meats are always a hit or miss? Sometimes they cooked to perfection and other times it was ummmmm drum okay, so take it home anyway and cook it a little more, I never waste food. I do that with Sams club chicken too.The Staff is always friendly and helpful. If I go there and all seating is taken I don't wait, I just go else where or settle for the Japanese restaurant across the street, but Friendly's is a place of last resort. read more

Everything is seasoned well and the fries are always crispy. I also love their barbecue sauce that's just the perfect amount of sweet. Half of the tray was covered by starches -- french fries and rice; the other half had three foot-long ribs and meat. The cost was about $15. The portion size is about the best thing I can say about this place. The cooking isn't exactly refined, or the flavors terribly complex. I came here based on a co-worker's recommendation. The food is cheap, good and plentiful. They have sangria, beer, wine... Service is moderate ... but i'm not expecting great service at a place like this. They are friendly and bring out the food quickly. That's all i need. Tried the chicken, ribs, pork cubes, and shrimp.
