    Cobb Salad

This was my first visit in since changing over from Young's. The renovation of the interior is really nice and classy. I also like the buffers between the booths. I ordered a Cobb salad, which was good. I will say red onion is too strong in my personal taste. I was happy with my food regardless. My dad enjoyed his special calzone. Friendly and attentive service. I'd gladly come back.

    Agua Fresca

The food is always good and the service is fast and attentive! We got a chicken Caesar wrap and the steak tips and they were both great! We also had an "Agua Fresca" which was great as well!

Avocado Toast off brunch menu (no bleu cheese).

Food: My partner and I ordered from here the first time. We ordered from the brunch menu to go: I ordered the gluten free avocado toast (no bleu cheese) and a side of fries. My partner and I went to eat our food 10 minutes after picking it up. When I saw my avocado toast, I was more than disappointed and shocked. I paid almost $10.00 for two pieces of soggy bread with a little avocado on it, one cut up small tomato, and pickled onions (see attached photos). The fries were okay at best, they were very disappointing due to the fact that they were very soggy. Overall, I'm still hungry and disappointed over my food. Service: The person I spoke to on the phone was extremely nice and helpful, hence the two star rating instead of the one star. They were helpful with helping my partner and I navigate through the brunch menu (the online menu we were looking at hadn't been updated). They also assisted me with navigating items that were gluten free. Ambiance: N/A; ordered to go. Overall, I am disappointed with my experience food-wise. Service-wise, the person we talked to was great. Unfortunately, my partner and I probably won't be coming back.

Clark's American Bistro opened in Downtown Durham recently, formerly Young's Restaurant. I stopped in here for Sunday lunch, a good time when they were not busy yet, I was the only customer during my visit. Upon entering for dining in, temperature was taken and Covid questions were asked. The restaurant is sectioned with the full service bar area (8 beers on tap) to the right (plexiglass dividers at the bar, and long dining room area to the left and back with booths (high glass window dividers).  I was seated in a corner booth near the front window and offered a drink (I got water). I started out with a cup of Chili ($4) served with a small piece of grilled cornbread. The chili (vegan) was pretty spicy and thick & hearty which had beans (kidney, pinto, black), carrots, peppers, and tomato base. The grilled cornbread was good, not sweet. Next, the Baja Fish Tacos ($12), 2 fish tacos were comprised of lightly fried Haddock (crisp coating), chipotle aioli dressing, cabbage slaw, pico de gallo in soft grilled corn tortillas. The accompanying fries were deep fried golden and salted, hot soft texture inside, a bit greasy.  I had enough food and passed on the offer for apple pie or fried oreos for dessert. The check came of to $17.44 before tip. The food here was pretty good and the service was very attentive. The waitress checked up on me a few times and left me in peace to finish my lunch. Light music was playing over the speakers (including Fleetwood Mac) and the waitress and bartender were chatting about their extended family lives during covid times, which sounds a bit similar to a few of my friends. During this health emergency (in 2020), masks are required here, except when seated and eating and drinking. The staff here were masked.

Burger: I went with the Beast Mode, which comes with two patties, cheese, double bacon, "Hop sauce," crispy onions, pickles, and maybe more. Can't really specify temp, so the patties a bit dry, but well-seasoned and really good beef flavor. I liked the creamy, zingy sauce. But that bacon! Flavorwise, among the best bacon I've ever had. Texturewise, I really liked the thickness and pliability, but this came at the expense of some crispness. I'll take that trade but same may not. I also really liked the bun, which is a seeded briochy model that's less dense than what I've had previously at Tuckaway. Overall, very good burger. Gimme some juiciness and it's a great burger. Fries: They come standard with the burgers and chicken. A small order, but enough to get by and nicely done. Many fries options with various add-ons. You can also get onion strings, even though they're not on the menu. Shake: I went with chocolate. Not as fudgy as some I've had, but tasted very natural, with the milk flavor coming through, no shortage of chocolate, and a consistently that's thick but very drinkable. Good accompaniment to the burger. Chicken Tenders: I split a trio that came with fries and choice of sauce. These were huge and flattened, kinda like a chicken parm. Very crisp, well-seasoned, and juicy in spots, not-so-juicy in other spots. Good flavor on its own and in tandem with our hot honey (generous cup), dry rub (ditto), and both. Friendly staff throughout. Looking forward to coming back.

We visited on Friday night and sat at a table as the bar seating was pretty packed. Crowd was pretty chill - a mixture of people in their 20's having drinks & apps, and then older couples/families enjoying dinner. We were happy to see Smithwicks on the draft menu, and we also got a Downeast cider with a caramel/cinnamon rim. We ordered the house made mozzarella sticks, which were ginormous, crispy on the outside, creamy on the inside, and all around delicious. We all opted with different types of burgers - sliders, fried chicken, and a pub burger. All were served with fries and were perfectly cooked. The coating on my fried chicken was crispy and flavorful. Service was awesome - our glasses were never left empty! Best of all, Dwyers has a free jukebox packed with favorites. Looking forward to coming back on our next visit to Portsmouth - we'll definitely be trying the deviled eggs, wings, and fried oreos!

The service was average to poor likely due to understaffing. We got there and waited and waited to be seated. Finally sat and waited again for our drink order. The Guinness was very good from the tap. The menu was Irish fare so all good.. Had bangers and mash and my friend had beef stew. The 4 sausages were okay but overcooked. A few were blackened. The mashed potatoes were flat out disgusting. They had a weird taste so I don't know how they were made or if they were old from the fridge. The clearly didn't use butter and milk to make it creamy and rich. The side of beans was in a little cup and tasted like they were from a can. No onion gravy that you normally find on this dish. My stomach was doing cartwheels last night and not feeling great this morning. My friend had beef stew and seriously it looked like all gravy. Not hearty at all. He said it was okay. My wife had salmon and she said it was average. Nothing remarkable about it. Too bad.
