Keep an eye peeled for Clark's. I read about it in the Motz book on hamburgers where it is rated highly. So I left Astoria, OR, picked up a buddy in Long Beach, WA, and made the trek. Was it worth it? Yes! This is climbng into the time machine to when diners and greasy spoons existed before franchises because they served good food, really good food. The burger was a classic smashburger, thin and crispy with crunchy edges. And the Deluxe has all the goodies on it you could want. Ask your server. You can get your onion grilled. The fries are fresh cut and fried up right. These are not the frozen factory spuds you get in chains but real spuds made right before they are cooked. They serve killer shakes and our waitress said that I probably would become a much better person if I got the chocolate peanut butter shake. It was good, really good. I am a better person. ;o) And the server had a great sense of humor and could kid back just fine. There was a wait because the dining room was packed. We were lucky to get space at the counter. Did we wait long? No. Was it worth the wait? Yes. All in all this is worth the hour and a half each way. This is more than a good burger, this is an experience. You walk in to a super cool down to earth lady who greets you with spunk! She's friendly and FAST! Pretty descent size menu with a lot of breakfast and lunch options. Breakfast ends at 11:30 A tasty looking appetizer section! The tables are set up like country outdoorsy picnic type style. There are two huge wagon wheels on the wall with a set of Huge Longhorns between them!!! Very original and the rest of the place is super nostalgic. A little history is that it opened in the 1920's!!! So cool! I ordered Fried zucchini for an appetizer! Yum Bacon Cheeseburger with fries and OMG!!! It was exactly the way I like my burgers, Juicy and the bacon was thick, flavorful and huge!! We all had burgers (everyone loved their meal ) Our youngster had the chocolate Milkshake and chicken tenders with fries! Last but not least! That Gigantic Cinnamon Roll!! Omg! It's light and fluffy and way too big for just one person! Enough for the whole family for sure!! I've driven by Clark's for the past 40 years, always wishing I had time to stop. I finally did and regret those times I did not. It is the definition of a good dive. Generally it looks like not much beyond maintenance cleaning has been done in the past 40 years. Upon closer inspection, however, the mid century-esque green vinyl chairs and bar stools must be excellent reproductions because they are in excellent repair. We each had the deluxe cheeseburger. It was piled high with tomatoes, lettuce and onions and so hot I was afraid to take an initial bite. We shared great onion rings and could not resist ordering a child sized sundae made with homemade chocolate ice cream - the bomb. The service was cordial but no nonsense. We were well taken care of even though we came in only a half hour before closing. The whole bill was less than $40. read more

this place is pretty divey. but not surprisingly so. we just stopped for ice cream and it was really good. they serve crater cones which I have never seen since my childhood when driving through chemult, OR. unlike chemult, they serve your sauce in a small cone on the side rather than making the crater before it's served. We got a shredded chicken bacon sandwich--not great. The chicken was tough--tasted like it had been boiled. Bread had hadn't been grilled entirely. The fries weren't great either. A few were barely cooked through (almost a touch crispy in the middle) while quite dark on the outside. Kids had ice cream which was fine. They just had vanilla soft serve with some toppings that were decent. Price wasn't cheap for sure. Location was not well kept. It was a bit beyond just being a dive--which can be fine if the food is great. But it wasn't--at least not what we had. read more

I love visiting little down-home restaurants that aren't part of a chain, so I was happy to have a chance to visit Clark's. But I'm sorry that I appeared to have missed its heyday. It's dirty and cluttered. The ice cream was like anything you'd get out of a soft-serve vending machine. My sandwich was ok, but the fries were barely cooked wedges of unseasoned, room temperature potatoes. It was overpriced. We didn't get fussed about it...we prefer to have a chuckle about the things that don't live up to expectations. And our waitress was terrific. As mentioned in other reviews, we were treated as an inconvenience by our server. I could understand if it was busy and our server was juggling multiple tables, but it was not busy. The home made ice cream sign had us stop for lunch. I had a burger, which came from a frozen patty, so pretty standard. My guy had a seafood basket, which he commented also came from the freezer because the shrimp was still cold in the middle. Most of the waitstaff, as another reviewer put it, made us feel like an inconvenience. We thought, surely the home made ice cream will make up for some of the experience. Drove all the way with the kids from hoquiam to get them a shake and cone. Clarks closes at 7pm. We arrived at 6:50 to a closed sign on the door and no one willing to answer the door, as it was locked! Kids were upset! Wife called, an employee answered the phone. When asked if they were open she replied yes for another 5 minutes, but we are not taking anymore walkins. Said we just wanted ice cream got some excuse it wasnt working. I have always given Clarks the benefit of the doubt when it comes to local businesses. The 3 strike rule applies to this situation, Clarks is out for this family. I will be spreading my story to social media, friends, and family. A piece of advice to the owner of Clarks. Your leadership is rude and it has trickled down thru the staff. read more

If you have a chance to go, I would highly recommend getting a shake or a malt. It is so important during Covid to have safe food service. I struggled with this review. Sending out half cold raw sausage inside an omelet gave me no choice. We are praying not to get sick from this place. The French tasted freezer burned and had an off flavor. Coffee was colored water that tasted instant. What else do I need to say? As the first reviewer mentioned, the staff is young, but very friendly. For the last 4 summer's, Clark's milkshakes made from their delicious homemade icecream has been my family's big build up. My kids and I stop here every summer on our way to Seaside. As a matter of fact, their ice cream is so good, I think the kids would be happy if our vacation was just to Clark's and then home again. My 8 and 12 year old are happy to recommend this tasty stop to anyone on their way to the coast. My husband and I will not be back. After ordering a 2 egg link and cheese omelet I was told that couldn't be done. Even though it has been done in the past. Owner claimed it was probably her daughter who did that for me and she shouldn't have. I decided to have the two egg omelet at full price. When I got it the meat was not in the omelet. Didn't seem to be a big deal to the Owner though. In fact, she kept coming up to the table arguing and making things worse. Not a professional way to treat customers at all. Horrible. Only reason we left a tip was because my husband didn't want to punish the waitress. I hope she is the one that got it. Horrible experience. read more

I simply cannot do a better job than Never Home W though I'll throw in my two cents. On a tour around Highway 101 we diverted for the infamous Clark's Restaurant. I hadn't been in years and could still recall the smiles on the faces after gulping down a vanilla malt and a burger. Put Simply: HAND MADE SHAKES/MALTS WITH HOME MADE ICE CREAM!!! I had to pull out all the stops for this visit. Deluxe Cheese w/ Bacon & Egg. Egg cooked perfectly, bacon done just right and enough burger to satisfy an army of Viking Soldiers after a day in the Fjords. Or perhaps at least two lowly motorcycle-riding queers like the two of us. The staff was quite comical and yes, Christian and others are quite the eye candy. Though you can dine on the gossip flying around just as much as the food. It seems as though high school politics in rural Washington are just as delicious as their urban counterparts. Clarks doesn't disappoint!! We came here last week for breakfast and again today. Last week I had the hobo scramble and it was enough to feed everyone at the table. Ended up taking half of it home.
