My how things have changed. We were celebrating our daughter getting a big hit in softball with a little ice cream so we stopped at Clark's. We used to love their food and service, but I walked in the door and was greeted with an angry waitress saying they were at capacity (which is only 16 people). I get it, this pandemic has been going on for over a year now I am understanding and know the drill, so I asked how long the wait was. I was ignored. So I waited until she was passing by to ask again and she said in an annoyed voice "I don't know, depends on how long it takes them to eat" as if I were stupid. Very few people came in to sit and eat, however I notice a couple people came in for take-out and the drive-up window was very busy while we were there. I think it's a very popular with the locals. It's a good stop when you are out that way for some solid diner food. We took a drive today and decided to try Clarks for breakfast. Our waitress was very nice and let us choose our table. I ordered the 1/2 biscuit with gravy,2 sausages and 2 eggs and a mocha coffee. The drink was very good. Amazing gravy and biscuits from scratch! Fat tender link sausages. Best breakfast I've had out in a long time. Living on the coast every place I have tried biscuits and gravy either tasted as a runny white sauce out of a can onto frozen/baked biscuits. These restaurant is authentic as well as their employees. Clark's is located in the achingly small town/burg/village of Artic, WA; about 9-10 miles south of Aberdeen and well off the beaten path. (How small is Artic? It's not even on most maps!) Clark's is a fantastic little family-run restaurant/diner that I only know of thanks to this very website! Excellent service, excellent food -- everything is fresh and hand-made/made to order, from the burgers and pork chops, to the fries and milkshakes. The service was fantastic; we had a very energetic and knowledgeable college-age guy who served us and made us feel like royalty after two days of traversing the 101 in Washington and searching for "real food" after camping. Fresh-cut french fried potatoes, massive handmade burgers, homemade ice cream in the peanut butter/oreo milkshake...nom nom nom! My only regret is not trying the pork chop special (or at least taking it to go). My stomach was aching afterwards but only because I crammed so many good eats in my gullet while dining here. I know, you'll probably never find yourself in Aberdeen, Washington (let alone Artic) -- but if you are ever close (or visiting Olympic NP, Ocean Shores or the like) make the side trip for an epic ending to your visit. This is a mile south of the fork where Highway 8 becomes Highway 101. They are open early and a good stop for breakfast before a long trip. I had the mushroom burger and thoroughly enjoyed it. Friends all had something from the breakfast menu and everyone enjoyed their meal. This is an amazing stop for breakfast for sure... But the rest of the menu looks pretty delish as well! We had the chicken fried steak and "hobo hash" which did not disappoint. And one of the best parts was the homemade strawberry jam with our buttery grilled toast! The food was greasy and the tables didn't feel clean and we didn't get very good service despite being the only 2 people in the restaurant. What happened to Clarks? Growing up near there, that was THE place to stop for milkshakes and ice cream. The other food there was good but it was the ice cream that made it famous. Now that I have grown up and moved away whenever we drive through we would stop and let our son enjoy the same yumminess we did as kids. Sad to say we will never be stopping there again. We walked in and the restaurant only had a couple of people eating and 4 teen girls working and seemed dirty with a smell. We know that the "rustic charm" is part of the draw but this was beyond the usual clutter. We ordered a peanut butter chocolate shake, a banana shake and a kids sundae. With tip it was $20, but since it was Clarks we felt it was well worth it until our order came out. My son's sunday was made from a soft serve machine and had flat whipped cream on it that just ran all over. The peanut butter chocolate shake was made with the soft serve and flavored syups and then the banana shake was also made with soft serve, banana syrup and then a few actual bananas that were brown with black spots were put on top. We used to be able to watch them scoop and add real ingredients, that was why we came- real ice cream, real inclusions, delicious flavor! The girls stood around and chatted and checked their phones (with the exception of one) while a terrible smell from the kitchen grew worse during our visit. The rancid smell actually made us move from the booth to outside. All 3 "treats" were then dumped in the trash because they were just terrible and we didn't see a point trying to interrupt the chatting session to complain. Toursits travelling through is how this place makes it name and money. This is THE place that tourists remember to stop at each trip down 101 and if this is the new Clarks I expect that the tourists that this restaurat depends on will remember to not stop there anymore after their next visit of terrible food and service. read more

This little restaurant's sign boasts homemade vanilla & chocolate ice cream. But to the food first; Larry had a delicious huge burger with goop sauce and home cut fries. I had the delicious fish & home cut fries with a fresh made green salad with delicious ranch. We left with a vanilla cone & a chocolate cone definitely was homemade ice cream. Brought back memories of making homemade ice cream as kids. They have other flavors but if I understood correctly only these two are homemade. The staff was very friendly & service was great. As you walk in you smell a whiff of something sweet. When the hot pancakes show up, you can smell the hint of vanilla that is part of Clark's pancake recipe. I had eggs, bacon, and old fashion toast. The bacon makes what we call bacon in California look whimpy, and lacking in taste. NOT HERE...the bacon is thick and wonderful, tasty! We stopped into this restaurant on recommendation from friends Sunday morning at noon. The place was extremely busy with mostly travelers. The burger pattys are hand made and nicely sized. The steak fries were excellent. Your not gonna get away cheap but the price is worth it. I did see lots of customers ordering milkshakes and it seems they are made with hard ice cream. They looked delicious. Next time I'm through I am going to try and make it for breakfast. This seems to be the type of place where I might get a good plate of breakfast food. Grew up stopping here on the way to my aunts house and was madly in love with the shakes. We happened to be coming down this way today and we couldn't resist the stop-- even if we decided 9am was too early for shakes. So we got breakfast instead. Granted, Clark's is a little out of the way, but not so bad that it feels like a burden getting there, and it is right on the side of the highway. This WAS my family's favorite place to stop by every time we headed to Oregon we stop to get lunch as a tradition for over 10 years. This last trip to Oregon we stopped at Clark's like always and we always see the grumpy morning guy short staffed( he's a pleasure just over worked). But the girls came in and weren't much help at all we brushed it off everyone has their bad days! But we stopped back on our way home and had the worst experience we have ever had in all of times of eating here. It seems so unorganized! Even when the grumpy old guy is rushing around the service was better and he was worried about getting food out and drinks the new girls they have on the back could care less obviously I ordered a blt with onions added and only mayo for condiments, when my sandwich arrived about 45 minutes later it was SOGGY WITH MAYO I KID YOU NOT I HAD TO TAKE NAPKINS AND WIPE OFF THE MAYO LIKE THEY WERE UPSET THAT THEY HAD TO DO THEIR JOB, everyone's meal was soggy or had something wrong but I was moved to write a review since it is ruining our family tradition with all the new young girls that don't care about service so we will try one last time before our whole family stops eating here.
