This was a nice hole in the wall. We stopped for lunch because our flight was at 5:10. The grilled chicken sandwich was good. You definitely get a nice portion, so make sure you are good and hungry. read more

Love. This. Place! Aside from its connection to Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, the place is just great all on its own. Pleasant and attentive staff, no frilly or over-the-top crazy meals. Just solid dishes, great food, served promptly and with a smile. I go out of my way to come here every time I'm in Savannah. read more

I ran by this spot during a half marathon and saw tons of people waiting outside. It took all I could NOT to stop mid-race and get something to eat, but I definitely took note of it for post-race. So glad I did! Clary's is a perfect local homestyle diner with absolutely scrumptious food, no frills, and quick/friendly service. Although there was a line when we got there, we got seated pretty quickly, ordered quickly, and had food on our table faster than I could have anticipated (which was much appreciated after having run a half marathon)! Everything on the menu screamed comfort food and my pecan pancakes didn't disappoint. They were drool-worthy - sweet and very filling - and my coffee cup was never empty. Pay at the counter and make sure your CC is added for some Yelp Cash Back! Glad we chose this dive over a chain. I'll definitely be visiting Clary's next time I'm in Savannah. What a cute place. I wish I could of had a typical southern breakfast but I needed a light meal. I had the gyro platter. I doubled up the Greek salad. I did not want fries. It was very good. The service was great and friendly. The interior was cute and retro. read more

Great diner food in Savannah. Apparently it was featured in a movie so it will always be busy. There is also a bus stop right in front which makes it appear even busier. Seats inside are done through the hostess but outside is first come. We sat outside with no wait. I got the biscuits and gravy, my husband got the BLT and we split the French onion soup. The soup was the star and I would highly recommend. The biscuits were soft and fluffy and the sausage gravy smothered them. read more

We stopped here after it came highly recommended + reviewed. Overall, it was just okay - your standard breakfast. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. We each got omelettes, which are served with a side of potatoes. The omelettes were good, although the potatoes were very basic and appeared to be the frozen type. The side of bacon that we got tasted like plastic, we ended up leaving most of it behind. The interior is very basic, no frills. Price is very reasonable. Nothing in particular about our visit really stood out and I'm not sure that we'll be back. read more

We visited Flannery O'Connor's childhood home and were looking for a place to eat lunch. We came across Clary's which is right around the corner from the house. It's an old-fashioned diner with simple food and affordable prices. No hipster decor and pomp here, just good home cooking and family style service. It's exactly what I would hope for in a diner like this. read more

So sorry I didn't discover this gem earlier in our extended stay in the area. Sincerely one of the best "diner" breakfasts i\I've ever had. Seated and order taken quickly by good natured waitstaff. We were I Savannah for 2 days and decided to stop by Clary's cafe before heading back to Orlando. The food was amazing, but having Mike as our server was the cherry on top. My friends and I was undecided on where to eat and an desired to eat at a restaurant we have never dine in before. A friend suggested Clary's Cafe. The cafe has a small parking lot adjacent to it which was filled. We quickly found on street parking. When we entered we was greated and quickly seated despite the cafe being crowded. The staff was friendly, service was good and the menu prices was decent. Our meals arrived in a timely manner. Out of the five different meals ordered only two was found not to be to tasty. The chicken finger batter was grainey and not flavorful. The Philly cheese sandwich was not highly flavorful also. Both seem to lack good flavor/season persay. Thought the two items was not favorful the potions was good. The dinning experience was good and I would visit again. read more

My husband and I had for breakfast this morning. Service was super fast and friendly. The wait was not bad at all. The amount of food was huge. The Oglethorpe breakfast was delicious. The sticky bun was good but there was a spice that I am not sure what it was that I didn't care for. I would definitely go back and would recommend to anyone. read more

The staff here are very pleasant and cheerful. The portions are great, and the neighborhood is quiet and romantic. Even if it's busy you can order takeout and eat in the park, and if you are alone you can sit at the diner bar and eat. read more

Best hash I ever had in my life. This place is a hole in the wall but it out does every restaurant or breakfast place in Savannah. LOVE LOVE the service. Everyone here is always o happy. They just love what they do and do so well. Please support this place it is amazing. I had the hash with two eggs, one of my friends had the simple bacon and egg breakfast and another had the filled French toast and all was amazing. But nothing was sweeter the Mike our server. We found this spot via Yelp reviews. We were looking for solid portions and a reasonable price. Hello Clary's! Parking: We parked in a deck downtown and then walked to the cafe. Parking is very limited in the street and at the cafe. Use a deck. Ambiance: Casual cafe, Big portions, cozy dining experience. Seating is pretty tight. We got there early, but as we were leaving it was getting busy. What I Ate: Crab cake eggs Benedict. The crab cakes were thick and well seasoned. The sauce was creamy and went so well with the crab and muffin. One egg was perfection, the other was just a little too runny for me. I also got their famous sticky bun. THE CARAMEL STICKY BUN! OMG! Whoa! Huge and so so sweet! Goes good with coffee and cream. Split with a friend and share the sugar high. I had some of my sisters, then thought it was a good idea to get my own. My wife and I were enjoying another lovely weekend in Savannah and wanted to try a local breakfast place and the reviews here were excellent. When we got here, we were initially put off by the wait (we were hungry and it was getting hot lol) but we decided to stick it out. We were very happy that we did. The place is quaint and homey, a very natural feel here. The food was phenomenal. The portions were more than enough and the taste was out of this world. Mike, our waiter was beyond friendly and really went out of his way to make sure we had everything. I would give 5 stars but the only issue at the beginning was the host in how he responded to customers, it was a bit sarcastic. But it could be his humor not translating well to those around him. But this place is definitely a place to visit. read more

A must stop in Savannah as this diner was featured in Midnight of the Garden of good and evil with John Cusack and Kevin Spacey. We had breakfast here 2 days running. We were served both days by "Alice." You can't make this stuff up. By 8 am when they opened, there were 15-20 people in line. Locals and tourists alike. The menu was typical breakfast fare with some specialties like the waffles (not sampled) and the corned beef hash which was delicious. All portions were more than generous and the prices made it a good value. The grits met our standards as Yankee transplants with only partially developed palates for the stuff. Service from Alice and others was amazing. The only missing "star" was due to the overall cleanliness which won't effect their business as people will come any way for the mythical experience of this place. read more

We were there late morning on a Sunday for what amounted to brunch. We were seated inside after a brief wait. The place was doing a good business but the line was not bad at all. The food was delicious, with two of us going for omelettes and one (me) for the French toast and a side of sausage patties. The French toast was more than enough, thick and sprinkled with powdered sugar, and the omelettes were also a hit. Two of us had orange juice that tasted fresh. Clary's is a Savannah mainstay for many years and I definitely recommend it. read more

We went to Clary's while visiting Savannah on a Sunday morning which was ALSO Fathers Day!! It was packed, a line out the door! We thought for sure we were never going to get in, we were told a 25 minute wait, but we didn't even wait 15 minutes! When I tell you Clary's Cafe Staff is a well oiled machine! By far the most friendliest, respectful, fastest, and BEST service we have had in Savannah. Clary's is a MUST if you are in the area! Paula is one of the kindest waitresses and did not miss a single thing we asked for. I had the Georgian sandwich and I must say their biscuits are too die for!!! We ate here on a Saturday morning around 11 am. There was a line, but they turn tables quickly and we were seated within about 20 minutes. Our waitress, Holly, was so friendly, quick, and efficient. We had our food within 10 mins of ordering and everything was perfect. They were out of crab cakes, but my omelet was fantastic and hubby's sandwich was delicious as well. Clary’s Café has been serving Savannah for over a century, making it the city’s oldest restaurant and a true landmark. First opened in 1903 as a neighborhood drugstore and soda fountain, it became “Clary’s” in the 1930s when pharmacist Luther Clary took ownership. Over time, the soda fountain grew into a full café, and by the 1980s it had transformed into the restaurant visitors and locals know today — still carrying that nostalgic charm. Clary’s gained fame when John Berendt featured it in Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil and again when it appeared in the movie adaptation. Cute little mom 'n' popish coffee shop/cafe in downtown Savannah - a local staple - which was a fairly bustling hive of activity on a 4th of July Wednesday morning. Between the hustling wait staff & the constant parade of unique modes of transpo going by on the street - horse & carriages, bicycle rickshaws, cable car buses, Sedgways - you name it, if it rolls, it was probably going by - it felt like being in the middle of a Savannah Tourism Tornado! :P But seriously, back to food... I was promptly served excellent black coffee & a large cup of OJ. They surprised me by having Eggs Benedict Florentine on the menu, so I had to have it (a dish that's hard to find in my area of Middle Georgia farm country), & which was surprisingly perfectly cooked & served promptly (considering how busy they were). And can I just say it? When did restaurants stop serving beverages with doilies underneath? Are they really that expensive? Don't they biodegrade? Isn't the source renewable? Doesn't it help keep Americans employed? But you will find them HERE at Clary's. And by God, you will feel like an American, too. This was the worst food I have ever eaten in my entire life! I went with my friend, who would say the same. Upon entering, I wondered if I should just walk back out, because the decor was shabby, there were barely any customers, and there was no music. I thought to give it a chance, and I wish I hadn't. I ordered biscuits and gravy (resembled white mush with alpo) and my friend ordered waffles, bacon and home fries (microwaved dried up waffle, paper bacon, and cut up microwave french fries). Both dishes were terrible, mine tasted just how it looked, while my friends bacon, oddly, had absolutely no flavor. I'm serious, it tasted like lightly salted paper. The service was terrible. We went to Clary's Cafe because of their high Facebook reviews and proximity to The Gastonian, which is where we were staying. They have such a wide menu that there's something for everyone. We were very pleased with the fair prices. Our waitress was extremely friendly. She even gave dog biscuits to some dogs who were dining outside with their owners. The tanginess of the sour dough bread paired beautifully with the pesto chicken salad! The description mentioned that there were jalapeños, which I was excited about having a bit of heat mixed in, but there didn't seem to be any in mine. However, I honestly don't think it needed it, which is rare for me since I'm always happy to add a spice element to my food. Absolutely loved this place, and I already can't wait to try their other food when I'm back in town again!

If you do not know the address you will drive past it. I ended up parking a block from the restaurant as parking was pretty limited . It is a very cozy restaurant that seats about 30 patrons total. I did not see any single seating or a bar. I ordered pork chops, dressing, and white rice from the daily menu. Service was very quick, and I noticed everyone received their order within about 5 minutes. This included dine-in and carry-out customers. The dressing was the best I've tasted in a while. The pork chops had a nice seasoned, slightly spicy crust with tender meat. My take-out order was still hot when I was able to eat it about fifteen minutes later. I will come back for future visit and recommend this place if you enjoy soul food.

I also ordered Chicken and Dumplings, and I was unaware of how large a serving it would be until it arrived at the table. It was also delicious and the best I've ever eaten, actually. The banana pudding was creamy decadence, but was a bit short on the cookies and banana slices. Customers order and pay at the counter and then seat themselves at a table. It's a very small restaurant with a few booths and 2 and 4 top tables. I look forward to returning

Today I tried their Tuna Salad Sandwich with Fries --- also very good -- but we tend to stop for breakfast given their continuous superlative performance in that category of dining.
