I am not usually in the Sandfly area, but I was able to visit this spot during a quick transit through the area. It is located in a very busy and unassuming spot off of Skidaway Road. If you do not know the address you will drive past it. I ended up parking a block from the restaurant as parking was pretty limited . It is a very cozy restaurant that seats about 30 patrons total. I did not see any single seating or a bar. I ordered pork chops, dressing, and white rice from the daily menu. Service was very quick, and I noticed everyone received their order within about 5 minutes. This included dine-in and carry-out customers. The dressing was the best I've tasted in a while. The pork chops had a nice seasoned, slightly spicy crust with tender meat. My take-out order was still hot when I was able to eat it about fifteen minutes later. I will come back for future visit and recommend this place if you enjoy soul food. read more

I appreciate reviewer Kathy W. for introducing this new restaurant to the Savannah Yelp community! Open since January, they serve a changing daily menu of home cooked favorites. They are known for their fried chicken so I was told at the order counter by the owner. You'll certainly feel like you're home- away from home with their comfort food choices. The skin on fried chicken was FANTASTIC! My sides of Lima beans and stewed cabbage were tasty and fresh prepared. I also ordered Chicken and Dumplings, and I was unaware of how large a serving it would be until it arrived at the table. It was also delicious and the best I've ever eaten, actually. The banana pudding was creamy decadence, but was a bit short on the cookies and banana slices. Customers order and pay at the counter and then seat themselves at a table. Great food and family friendly! This place is worth the 20 minute detour off 95! And we stopped 3 minutes past this at Wormsloe plantation to stretch so it's a good location all around. The food is excellent and it came quickly so they can get you in and out if you're on a schedule. Most restaurants do 1 or 2 excellent things but almost every single thing they served was excellent. The cornbread has peaches which was cool. They serve the best collard greens I have ever had, they were really quite special. I recommend the smoked chicken that was also really special. Honestly- if you are with a few folks just get everything on the menu- you won't regret it. The people were very very friendly. One thing I love and appreciate is that they treated my 3 year old with kindness and patience. He sang loudly but stopped at our quick request and the patrons and staff were nice to him. (The usual response in metro areas is at least one dirty look). It makes me want to visit the South again, it's so refreshing to not be treated like he's an inconvenience. read more

Been meaning to try this place since it opened. Enjoyed lunch there today with my wife. All the food was good, but the fried chicken was exceptional - really, really moist and tasty. Excellent! The service was very friendly. While we were waiting in a short line to order, someone took our drink order. After we ordered at the counter our drinks and a basket of peach cornbread muffins were waiting for us at our table. The cornbread was so good. I am not big on fried chicken, but their fried chicken was really good. The cole slaw was great and the macaroni and cheese was the best I have had in a long time. After reading all of the reviews about the banana pudding, I had to try it. It was really really good. The peach cobbler did not disappoint either. It's a small place, maybe 10-12 tables? Luckily, we didn't have a problem finding a table. If in the area, I would definitely eat there again. read more

What you expect when you think of southern food! Their menu changes slightly depending on the day but enough standard items to pick from. We tried meatloaf, fried chicken and smoked chicken with sides (collard greens, mac and cheese, mashed potato, etc). The owner (I assume) gave all five of us desserts on the house after realizing my son didn't get the ketchup he asked from him (which he eventually got). The desserts were awesome - we tried the peach and pecan cobblers! Very convenient to eat at if heading to or returning from Wormsloe Historic Site or Skidaway Island. Good afternoon! I had the pleasure today to finally visit Sandfly Southern Soul. I was doing a google search the other day for some "soul food" and Sandfly Southern populated in my search. I read the reviews myself and I decided to give it a try. It's a small quaint space with customers either dining in or placing a carry out order like myself. I was greeted within 2-3 minutes and I reviewed their menu. In full transparency, everything is a la carte but the prices make sense especially when you understand food costs right now. Once I placed my order, the gentleman who was taking my order asked where I was parked. Once I showed him my vehicle, he informed me; he would bring the food to me once my order was ready. I probably waited a total of 7-9 minutes before receiving the following: 2 orders of meatloaf and mashed potatoes (gravy on the side) 1 order of 3 fried chicken wings with collard greens, mac & cheese, and rice and gravy. Everything was cooked with "love" and I definitely enjoyed the flavor profile. If it wasn't for my own dietary restrictions, I could eat it again tomorrow. However, I will be a return customer very soon. In my humble opinion, Sandfly Southern Soul will become a "belle" of a restaurant for the island communities, Sandfly and potentially the Southside area as a whole.
