It was well done, arriving dead and gray in the middle of the awfully thin patty. The "Classic Cajun Fries" were salty curly fries with no Cajun flavor to be found anywhere. If I could give this zero stars for customer service I would. I came the first time and the women taking the order was rude, and had a bad attitude. Didn't think much of it other than maybe she was having a bad day. Came again on two other occasions and it was still the same women (voices sounded very similar) who took my order the previous time. Worst attitude I've dealt with in customer service. Please do not work customer service if you can't deal with people with a suitable attitude. Terrible experience. read more

My hotdog bun had mold on it so I asked for a refund. The manager didn't seem to care very much because she sent one of her employees out to give me my refund. When she only offered to refund half of my meal I had to politely explain that we were no longer hungry and did not want any of the food. After retrieving what was left from my vehicle the young lady gave me a full refund and she was the only one there to apologize for ruining our lunch break. A staple in Norman, Classic 50's is indeed worth the time. It serves the same fair as the unmentionable Sonic, but is so much better! Their burgers are the best, cooked to order, and their onion rings are hand battered and sweet. They also serve fried pickles, potato boats and their ice cream is awesome. My favorite thing to get here is the cherry limeade, which is by far the best one I've ever tasted. I refuse to go to Sonic and will drive across town when I'm jonesing for a good burger. read more

the grilled onions they forgot and they said they'd be right out with them. 20 minutes go by and they never came out. I bit my burger once, my husband bit his twice because we assumed the onions were coming, I munched on 2 tator tots which were cold like they weren't cooked all of the way while I waited. They never came. When my husband bagged up everything and asked for a refund they made us wait another 10 minutes just to tell us they couldn't give us a refund because it was half eaten. That was a total of 30 minutes waiting.I said I literally bit it twice until I realized there were no onions as did my husband. They insisted it was half eaten and gave us a 10 dollar bill not even half of what we paid and we still paid for the 3 items we ordered and never got. Horrible customer service. I was crying because I'd had a rough day and they still didn't care. The manager wouldn't even come out and tell us on his own. HORRIBLE customer service and integrity. Listen. This place used to be a million times better than Sonic. Anytime I found myself in Norman, it was a priority to swing by here and have a meal. It's been about a year since I last went there (was great, had a burger and fries). Stopped by today for a hot dog and onion rings, husband had fries and a chicken fried steak. The proceeding culinary disaster is what led me to make an account today. The hot dog wasn't cooked. Three slices of american cheese were slapped on top of it. I'm not sure how they even softened as much as they did since the meat wasn't hot? The onion rings had literally no seasoning and tasted like a thin flavorless cracker around a warm onion. Fries were soft, and flavorless. Bland chicken fried steak sandwich. No salt. Literally no salt on fries or onion rings. The barely "melted" gross sliced cheese stuck to my teeth, the cold hot dog.... You guys it was so bad. I wish there were more words for me to explain how bad it was. I tried to eat it man, I just couldn't do it. I'm not some snobby food elitist either, and I don't want to suggest this place is innately horrible...hell I'll probably go back at some point, full of hope for a brighter future. Food quality-2/5 fries were mixed and water tasted sour Service 1/5 visited on a Saturday pm. Drive thru was busy but it took a long time to get food. Once we got it, we asked for napkins and ketchup and the car hop just forgot us. Atmosphere 2/5 looks like an old sonic refurbished. This place has lost their ever loving minds!!!! I went and ordered 5 cheese burgers, with cheese remind you. They brought me 5 burgers no cheese. The receipt plainly says 5 burgers plus cheese 65 cents a piece. My total was 27.00. So I pushed the call button, and I was polite about it at first. This b%$#,comes out with some cheese slices, not even in a bag. Just wrapped up in some paper towel. I asked her what is this, she actually told me it was cheese to put on our burgers. Man I started actually laughing, she was serious wow!! I asked her seriously, I have to put cheese on my own burger. She said I can take it and warm it up. If I wanted a messed up do it myself burger I'd have done it at home. I wanted a fresh d#$^ cheese burger from them,cause they normally ain't so rude like she was,never had any problems with them before. So my dad said forget about it, Don't say anything!!! Forget that ,my dad was already eating his when I discovered that there was no cheese on any of them. Point being, they said since he ate it they only remade 3 of them, so I at least should have got a refund for the other two. High school hangout with lame food. Classic 50s is a drive in and a highly-frequented high school hangout that serves Sonic-type food with a bit better menu. Personally, I hate Sonic, so this isn't terribly appealing to me in the first place. Likes: The menu is more diverse than Sonic's. Food is about the same as at other lower caliber fast food joints. I do have to say though that blackberry slushes are pretty cool. Dislikes: The quality is very poor, and 50s serves typical drive in greasiness with a side of flavored drinks. Sonic's food is just as tasty but lacks some of the items served at 50s. It's a dumpy little joint that will forever be stuck in fast food land. If you're grabbing fast food, don't go to Sonic or its lame clone, Classic 50s. They both pretty much suck. read more

I expected far better, to be honest. Far better. My onion rings hadn't been seasoned at all, and were (it appeared to me) very likely out of a bag in the first place. (I could be wrong, but they WERE remarkably uniform.) The patty on the veggie burger was seasoned well enough with salt and cumin, but it, too, appeared to have come straight out of a bag. My partner's fries hadn't been salted at all -- very bland. No bathroom on site. (And yes, I really had to pee before I ate. Grrrrrrrr.) All in all, a mediocre experience. But the service was fast. The conglomerate of slushies, the yummy chili-cheese dogs, the amazing chicken tenders with gravy...oh I want to jump on a plane and go back just to eat here again! Out of the fast food places I've been to, this one actually gets a low rating. The burgers are very small with not much on them. I ordered a chocolate malt and ended up with all of the powder left at the bottom for me to choke on. Whoever made it certainly didn't seem to be doing a good enough job. All of that aside, I ordered a large thing of okra and the broccoli cheddar nuggets. Those SAVED this review from 1 star. The nuggets were $5.00 for 6 of them. It's outrageous, but they were so good. The okra was also to die for in my opinion. Add a little salt and pepper? Loving it! I just wished the employees did a better job and added some care and love to their food. Still yummy :) read more

I think this place is better than Sonic (although my boyfriend might kill me). It's a Norman staple. Everyone will tell you to get a sprittle, but their cherry sprite (or cherry sprittle if you must) is some sort of next level, other worldly beverage. Their sprite hails from Heaven. The ice cream is very good as well, and the potato boats are about what you'd expect. An interesting experience, but certainly no place for a full meal when you are hangry. read more

Sprittle. Sprite infused with skittles. It is a classic and something I have never found anywhere else! You can try to make it on your own, but it's a waste of time, because it's not going to be the same. Otherwise, this classic drive through is a muscled up Sonic with a more local, throwback vibe (and more expensive prices). I would say the food is pretty damn good, although the prices are a little higher than I'd prefer for this cute little drive up restaurant. Either way, definitely worth visiting at least once! I hate to give it 3 stars because it really depends on the day. Also, if this was 4 years ago, I'd bump the rating up to 4 cause classic 50s is definitely a staple of many OU students. I have fond memories of classic runs with my best friend, as well as with others. We recently tried to relive those days by making a run when she was back in town and it was nothing short of nostalgic. On the on days, the fried pickles are crisp, the sprittle is overflowing with skittles and the service is quick. On off days, you might only find 5 gummies in your drink, the Coke is flat and it takes forever to get to you. Even so, it is worlds better than sonic!!! read more

I've been coming to Classics for many years now. The quality of the food hasn't waned from when I was in high school to today. As other yelpers point out, the menu is very similar to Sonic. It's a drive in, it has burgers, sides, shakes, slushes, etc. But, it has some items Sonic doesn't carry, so I'd say the menu is more expansive. The slush selection is enormous, and there is everything from traditional fruit based slushes to "adult" flavored slushes, to candy flavored slushes. My favorites: strawberry, crimson and cream, white Russian. The food is mostly classic drive in type fare, so you shouldn't expect anything revolutionary or gourmet. But, as I noted above, they have been producing quality food for many years now. My first fried pickle was at Classics, and I still order them every so often. I typically get a burger. Thin patties, but they retain some juiciness. The veggies are crisp, and the buns are soft. Like I said, these are not breaking the burger mold, but they are quality drive in food. Service is typically fast, even during busy hours. Classics is a great joint, I'm glad it's done well for so long. read more

I was served raw french fries. There is no way whoever prepared my order could have over looked this. They looked like they were still frozen and cold in the middle. My chicken sandwich was burnt and tough (oil to fry them must be old), the onion rings have no taste, the brisket baked potato (The Fantasy Boat) was not worth the price in size or toppings, barely any brisket on it and no bbq sauce to be found. The broccoli cheddar nuggets way overpriced for 5, the cheese in them not the best taste with broccoli, also fried in the old oil. The one star is for the malt, I have yet to taste my butterfinger burst shake in which I ordered large and got small and they fixed it without a straw, actually took the small back ( which should be a no no during this pandemic), the big straw was the best part!! If I could give this place lower stars I would!! Okay so I've been to this store 3 ((THREE)) times and they have never gotten an order correct. And they blame it on "we're training", each time. I came in weeks apart from each other! They DO NOT WEAR MASK (despite our city having a city mandate) and the ones that do have mask on, they have it pulled down to their chin COMPLETELY EXPOSING THIER MOUTH AND NOSE (the only purpose of a mask) and then continue talk ALL over the food the are preparing. they do not wear gloves, and then touch your straw. (Why are the straws not kept in the wrapper?) This place is absolutely disgusting. Learn to care about ur community or close!!! You're risking people's lives. This has to be the worst possible place for service. The staff is comprised of people who look to be in their early twenty's and mostly act like they're better than the customers. I used to come here all the time, until about a year ago. Last year we had a medium sized order, and they completely forgot my food all together. I put them on my "banned list" (you know, places you decide don't deserve your business?) Well this evening I decided to give them another chance. (After all their "Sour Sprittle" is pretty amazing.) Anyway, I pushed the button and the person came over the speaker and told me to "order when you're ready". I began to order by asking for a double cheese burger, then said "hold on" because I was trying to relay an order from my Fiance and was asking if she wantef Fries or Onion rings. What happens next? The person who was taking my order says "push the button when you're ready" and hangs up on me. Really? To which I was already ready, and only needed a second, so I pushed the button again to complete the order, but had to wait for her to finish with the car beside us. When I asked "why she shut it down in the middle of my order?" She replies "That's the policy, there are others waiting" Now I'm not a completely selfish person, I could understand if as soon as she came over and told me to order when I was ready and said hold on, then by all means ask me to push the button when I'm ready. But, thats not AT ALL how it happened. I was already in the middle of my order. Their food is okay, but NOWHERE near good enough to counter balance their terrible service and rediculous policies. My boyfriend was disappointed by his fried chicken sandwich, which was pretty bland. They were really stingy on the drinks, too; they were filled with ice. Classic 50's has always been a great place to grab a not so great for you quick, satisfying meal. This last visit was far from my previous experiences were. I waited 20 minutes for my and my boyfriends food and when it came out, it was not very good. I did not receive sour cream on my party boat, the eskimo frostie tasted like dirt, my boyfriends fish sandwich looked like 2 thin over breaded fish sticks slapped on a dry/stale bun, and his Chicago dog tasted "horrible". This is by far the BEST drive-in restaurant in the world. I may be biased, though. I grew up in Norman, and I've been eating at Classics (as we call it) for basically forever. This place was a staple for me during high school (spent many a lunch period here) and every time I visit my hometown I have to make a stop here. They have the best grilled cheese sandwiches I've ever tasted (Sonic can't even get CLOSE to comparing) and also serve tons of other things (some of my favorites are the loaded baked potatoes & the variety of fried items, love the fried okra...) Their drink selections are fab too! They do slushies (this is the first place I ever had a slushie!), flavored sodas, etc. I can't even begin to describe how great this place is, you'd just have to check it out. I'm shocked that no one has reviewed Classics (it's been around forever!), but I think Normanites aren't really in to the Yelp thing (*gasp!*) so that's probably why...
