Went in on Sunday and it looks like they have new management -- service was outstanding and very attentive from the moment we sat down. They were also generous with the pita bread, which was a nice touch. My one disappointment was the gyro, which was smaller than I remembered. Basha Bash: ​I really wanted to love this spot. Based on the stellar reviews, I was excited for a hidden Greek gem in the heart of OP, but unfortunately, our experience was far from an "Opa!" moment. ​The Service I arrived first and the place was nearly empty, yet the energy felt frantic. The server/ hostess was very rushed and business-like but seemed overwhelmed, running around like a chicken with her head cut off. After declining a black tea multiple times (once they realized they were out of chai), We had to practically stop her in mid-step for every follow-up once the rest of my party arrived. She never stopped on her own to ask us if we needed anything or if we were enjoying our meal. ​The Food The meal was a series of "weird" choices: ​The Hummus Situation: Our entrees were supposed to come with hummus, Rice and a side salad. Instead of serving The hummus with the entree, it was plopped onto the side salad plate before the entree arrived. I've eaten a lot of Mediterranean food, and I've never seen it served that way. ​The Garlic Sauce: This was a huge letdown. It looked and tasted like straight mayonnaise with a hint of garlic powder--not the authentic, pungent toum or A fresh bright white garlic sauce you'd expect. The tzatziki sauce might have been the best thing on the plate as it tasted fresh and authentic. The Meat: This was a Jekyll and Hyde as some of the meat was tender but some was overcooked and it was like that for everybody's meal whether they got beef, lamb or chicken. ​The Rice: Every entree was served over saffron rice that was dry, almost like it had been sitting out sunbathing for the day. ​The Falafel: Good crunch, but the inside was on the dry side. ​The Vibe [[HIGHLIGHT]]As someone with a background in the industry, one thing really stood out: while our server was struggling to keep up with the only two tables in the restaurant, a cook with an apron was sitting in the lobby looking bored and disinterested. She came to our table to chat, sharing the restaurant serves mostly Egyptian style foods, those loved by her Egyptian husband. The way I gasped when I opened up the creamy chicken curry order. The bag felt light for nearly $50 worth of food before our 20% tip but when we got home, we couldn't believe what we saw. The $5 a cup lentil soup was like the dregs of one soup, split into two cups that they then watered down to fill 2/3 up. They looked like two different soups, if we could even call it that. For $20, the chicken shawarma was overpriced. The salad it came with was extremely sad. The hummus, was anger inducing. See the red sauce on it? You know how usually you get a drizzle of olive oil? Not here. The red was FRANKS RED HOT SAUCE. The creamy curry chicken for $20 is criminal. It was barely flavored with curry and to fill up only half a styrofoam box with it and nothing else, not a side salad, nothing was insulting. It wasn't good enough to justify that price. Both dishes had dried, hard rice. The chicken was dry. The highlight of the food we had was actually the garlic sauce--sufficiently garlicky. The pita that came with the meal was bloated by steam. The person that sat us was nice and after a few minutes came over to take our order. We ordered the chicken shawarma dinner plate, my husband ordered hummus and pita and my daughter was craving dessert. We also ordered a hibiscus drink and a mango juice. Let's start off with the hummus... Yikes! I've never had it so watery and we were really confused by the big glob of sauce in the middle. We weren't sure if it's Tabasco or Buffalo sauce. The pita was okay. The hibiscus tasted good almost like traditional Mexican Jamaica but more sweeter. The mango juice tasted like it was from the store like simply mango. My daughter ordered the Lebanese night and she liked it. It tasted like something we've had before. The rose water infusion makes it taste flowery but it wasn't bad. I ordered an order of fries for the table and omg. We called these chicken fries. How on earth do you get a deep fried chicken taste into fries?! Anyways they smelled like fried chicken and tasted just as bad. Let's move on to the good. The rice had a nice flavor to it and it complimented the chicken shawarma. The chicken was flavorful and not dry at all. The only thing I didn't like on that plate was the garlic sauce. It really tasted like they took mayo and added dill to it. We wanted to try the Kibbah which is stuffed with ground beef and onions. They had fantastic flavor and was seasoned very well. It's fine... I ordered it through grubhub because it's not far from my office. It was packaged in two small boxes instead of a larger one? And the pita bread was cold- absolutely no attempt to warm it before putting in the foil. Hummus was fine. There's a new small side of chili pepper sauce that comes with the hummus and baba ganoush. I typically get the Chicken Curry with Sun Dried Tomatoes and I wasn't disappointed. I ordered a takeout of creamy chicken, curry rice, and Oma Ali but we had more time to go so we ended up just eating over there. The food was very delicious but we had a couple of issues the service was very slow. There were only one person working, which is still OK as long as the attend the guests second thing was the Omar Ali had very less sugar, but they were nice enough to remake it with right amount of sugars.
