No trip to Gold Country is complete without a stop at Swingle Meat!…read more As mentioned in my previous review, groceries, especially meat prices are super high in the Bay Area, so whenever I have a chance to get some good deals on meat, I'm going to make every trip here worth it. On this trip I picked up some frozen ribeyes, sirloins, burgers, breakfast sausage patties, cheddar jalapeno sausages, and some chile verde and ranch house chicken. The chicken items I got come vacuum sealed, which is perfect when I plan to sous vide them. The things I wish I got more of was their honey pepper beef sticks and hot teriyaki beef jerky. It's very affordable and perfect for snacks. Another low key thing that we like are their frozen chicken wellingtons. super easy to bake at home and it's a tasty meal. I arrived in the morning and luckily it wasn't super busy. Grabbed a basket and before I knew it I had enough meats and snacks to feed a large family when in reality, it's just for a couple of us. $153 well spent and meals for days. The prices for the tri-tips have more than doubled since 2020, but honestly, still a great deal considering the size. $35-40 for a good sized marinated tri-tip is still a steal of a price. The mother lode tri tip is a can't miss and a fan favorite at any of our family bbqs. Definitely plan to bring a cooler and some ice packs so you can keep your meats stored properly in route to back home.

I was expecting a butcher shop where I could select some fresh pork chops or rib eye steaks. But…read moremost of the meats were pre-packaged frozen meats. Absolutely nothing wrong with that... it just wasn't what I was looking for. We did buy some frozen steaks. I found the prices to be reasonable but not worth going out of the way for (it's about 40 miles away from where we live). Regarding the quality of the steaks, we didn't find them to be better than what we normally purchase.

The tuna was simple, I'm not even sure if there was mayonnaise in it. Served on sliced sourdough with red onion and cheddar cheese, i found it deliciously satisfying. The sandwich is stuffed with tuna and I could have ordered a half sandwich and it would have been enough to stuff my belly. My Hubs ordered the vegetarian sandwich with potato salad on the side. He finished his sandwich, which was stuffed with lots of fresh veggies and sliced provolone cheese. He enjoyed it to the last bite! We were split on the potato salad. My Hubs liked the sweet pickles and the freshness of the chopped celery added to the recipe. I prefer zero pickles in my potato salad, but still enjoyed a few bites. The texture of the salad was pleasing and the amount of mayonnaise was very balanced. The soup of the day was, chicken and dumplings. I was disappointed that I wasn't in a place to order a bowl to take away. Next time for sure. The service was friendly and efficient and everyone appeared to be enjoying their food choices. The satisfaction was evident by the smiles and customer chatter coming from the outside and inside tables. Good job!

Nick was incredibly professional with helping us plan all the details for our rehearsal dinner, cocktail hour appetizers, reception dinner and late night snacks. Having his food as leftovers throughout our wedding trip was an added bonus! He helped us with our tasting, our menu and was able to adjust our guest counts very close to the wedding date. There are many things you hope turn out well as you're planning your wedding, and for my husband and me - food was at the top of the list. Nick and his team made delicious food that all of our guests loved. I'd happily recommend MotherLode to anyone looking for a great caterer!

Our hope was to support a local mom and pop business. Not only did they say they'd "pencil us in," which is not very reassuring if you're planning a wedding and to feed 150 people. I offered to pay a deposit to secure the date, which they happily accepted. And then Nick ghosted us. I'm not joking. I called and texted as our date approached, trying to get things in motion and never heard from him again. So we booked another caterer. Several months after our wedding... Our deposit was cashed. You know you didn't cater our wedding and you continued to cash our check. Thankfully, I had the check cancelled so it bounced... but the audacity!!!

Kudos to the produce guy. I'm hoping he'll be able to get the black watermelons. He said he would try. The cheeses and other deli stuff in three areas offer some great buys and be sure to check them all. Yes they do move stuff around a lot. Keep us on our toes I guess. If you want something on the left side of the store be sure to ask for Sheena, Queen of the Jumble, I mean Housewares. Yesterday I wanted some rubber runners for the kitchen and she had some stored in the bank that were perfect. Today I went back for the rest of them and they had trouble finding them as she wasn't there, but the manager finally did. Not only is it gross but the lady who is the property owner is even more unsettling she is one of the most unprofessional and off-putting people I have come across in a long time. You have been warned.
