I like the workers here, and the bakery items (that's what I usually come in for while getting my prescription at the pharmacy). Donuts, cake, cinnamon rolls, etc are very good. The workers are kind and helpful. I especially appreciate the lady that has helped me at self-checkout a couple times. Gracious and helpful. The store is clean and tidy. I shop here often and was surprised to have an employee be so rude and inappropriate while I was checking out of the self help line. My strawberries were not coming up with the discount, which was posted by the strawberries that they were two for five dollars. I spent a little bit of time searching for the right berries and put them in my car and along with some other things that weren't coming up with the discounts I had somebody come over that worked there. A woman with long dark gray hair and glasses. I showed her that the discounts weren't being marked off on my list of items, and she said these strawberries were organic so they're not that sale price of two for five dollars. And I said no the sign clearly is posted on both sides of the display regarding The berries that aren't organic and the berries that are organic and I offered to show her the sign. She continued to argue with me and then literally took my two boxes of strawberries out of my cart and voided them on my checkout list. I thought she was going to go look at the sign or something. I didn't know so I grabbed my purse and followed her across the store to where the strawberries were, and she threw my strawberries back into the display and grabbed the sign out of the bracket that did say two for five. I said are you kidding me right now? And she just marched past me with the sign under her armpit after putting my strawberries back and taking them off of my checkout. So I went back and looked through and grabbed two more boxes of strawberries and went to the manager. Because also this woman gave me the same kind of grief about cheese that was supposed to be 399 instead of 499 in my cart and was really abrupt and abrasive and rude. This woman should not be in customer service let alone helping people and self check out if she literally cannot stand being around customers. I was shocked because I've never had an experience like this at the store, I told the assistant manager and I hope she tells that main manager about the behavior of this employee who was pathetic and so completely out of lying over what was gonna be a couple of bucks difference and then clearly the sign was posted at two for five dollars and it should've been honored immediately. read more

Today we had my grandson, so I did the mobile app and ordered my food via the app for pick up Everything went well, with the exception of them asking us to substitute a frozen lemonade that was Safeway brand with a different lemonade. I advised the person pulling my order that as long as I had one frozen lemonade, and one frozen limeade, I was good to go didn't matter the price. It didn't matter what brand it was. I just needed one frozen lemonade, and one frozen limeade. This was stated in the mobile app I picked up my order and my premade graham cracker piecrust was being smashed under other groceries and I received three limeade's and no lemonade. When ever I go to Safeway I always get the best service! I am physically handicapped and they always go above and beyond to help me out, whether it is from getting something I can not reach to packing my groceries very light to packing it in my car....I never feel like I am putting them out! ( as experienced at Walmart, I feel like I burden a Walmart employee!) But I get a nice conversation and help out! Customer service goes a long way! This Safeway store is the cleanest, best stocked, most organized grocery store I have ever been in. I am usually not a a Safeway shopper but recently moved to an area where this Safeway is the main grocery store. I must say, I am impressed!! Everything is always so neat and organized. There are never any empty shelves and the employees are very friendly as well. On Fridays they have specials galore! Like $5 foot long sub sandwich's, $5 sushi and $5 fried chicken! Thats also a pretty busy day for them with all their specials but definitely worth it!! Oh and they have a Starbucks inside as an added bonus... read more

Employees in the bakery department should take courses in basic sanitation...... The fresh french bread was not out (don't expect most bakery goods to be placed out before 8AM..) so I asked a lady for a loaf which was right by her, as she was yapping with the store janitor.... She's holding some sort of bucket in her hands and walks over and grabs a loaf of bread and put it in the paper sleeve without washing her hands or atleast putting gloves on. I said I don't want that loaf and another lady said to her that I wanted her to put gloves on. I didn't say that but she knew what I meant. The lady who grabbed the fresh loaf looked dumbfounded, so I told them to keep their bread. Beware of the bakery items in the Martel Safeway if my experience is the norm.... read more

I like this Safeway. Jackson has one of the better Safeways in California. However, I don't like it when I'm in the self checkout and both Sheri and Kimberly take it upon themselves to step in and hit the "10" rating on the survey for me when it comes up on the screen. Whatever this survey is for, the results are all wrong when the employees are giving themselves ratings. If it has happened to me on two out of two visits to this store, I'm sure close to 100% of the survey results are from the employees themself and not from actual customers. read more

Rotisserie chickens are not completely cooked. I usually buy mine from costless, but I was at Safeway and thought I'd get a chicken there even though it's more expensive. It's bloody and stringy and not fully cooked. These things should be falling off the bone. read more

Came in to the store as I do 3 to 4 times a week and we all know how much that costs!!! Took a couple of ribeye steaks to the deli counter to have sliced but the meat counter guy tells me he won't do it because he's already cleaned all of his equipment, half an hour before the Department closes. Gives me some bullshit excuse so I left all of my groceries there and we will be going to the other three supermarkets in our area who are already better priced just half a mile further. The store plays a lot of games with pricing. No one is ever available to help. Asking for the manager is a joke. They say sure but he/she never comes. The store is about as disorganized as a store could be They move stuff around. It takes forever to shop here. Pricing is mostly high. And they block ailes during shopping hours. Just sad. I usually don't shop the big chain grocery stores because of their high prices, preferring the discount stores. But today went into Safeway for only two items, zucchini and Jimmy Dean bulk sausage hot (spicy). The store was out of the sausage. The zucchini looked like it had been dragged to the store all the way from the field. So didn't get the two items I came to get. So on the way out I stopped to use the bathroom. If I can give no stars whatsoever, I would. First off, today at the deli counter around noon on 5-18, I was waited on by the most rude counter person I have ever met. I asked for a pound of sliced turkey, she weighs up a half pound, I said that it didn't look like the type I ordered, she argued that was what I said and I only asked for a half pound. Strike one. Next I ordered a pound of havarti cheese asking for waxed paper in between slices because it sticks, she gives me a side eyed look and a huff, then weighs it and I say it didn't look like a pound. She tells me again, I asked for a half then says something under her breath. Well that did it for me. I told her to keep the cheese, walked away with a full basket of groceries and left, good luck finding the two pounds of fish I stashed on a shelf. Never and I mean never will I go to Safeway again. I'm tired of their high prices and customer service. I'll drive to valley springs or lockeford to get my groceries before I step into another Safeway. Oh and just in case you want to know about going to the manager. She is more busy chatting up the checkers there like she's part of a high school glee club. I mentioned the problem to her, she said she'd check into it, and started BSing with another employee there. So please excuse my forty plus years in construction and F you Safeway. I'll go to cost less or spend the extra gas money going to Young's in Valley Springs or Lockeford as I mentioned above. At least they know how to treat customers. read more

I live down the hill in Sac, but I come here for odds and ends whenever I'm in town. It's an average Safeway with the advantage being far less traffic than the city locations. The disadvantage, at least on my last trip, was the complete lack of COVID regulation enforcement. Amador County in general seems to be a place where wearing masks has been turned into some sort of grumpy personal freedoms issue, and that was on full display here. It's one thing to not wear a mask, it's another not to even try to keep a distance from others and to stare down those who do. And that's just about 6 customers And a group of 8 teens at the Starbucks that I came across on this visit. But it's ultimately up to the business to enforce the rules, and even the employees were lax in their mask wearing. If you have signage up saying masks required and half the patrons don't wear them, you need to tell them to. Safeway is a major chain, so I'm surprised this is the one location I've come across that's bucking the rules and not living up to the standard of other stores. read more

UNSAFE during pandemic. you won't find them cleaning carts or other surfaces. And they refuse to enforce any guidelines suggested by the Center for Disease Control (CDC), like 6' distancing or wearing masks. Last time we were there, every aisle had unmasked people. When we saw children running down an aisle coughing with their hands on everything, we left. we politely called manager asking why masks can't be required like shoes and shirts and were hung up on after being told they're "not police and there's nothing they can do about it". So, we tried DELIVERY. Expect delivery to be 2-3 hours late. And expect the same response from management : "there's nothing we can do it". This is an unsafe and poorly managed store. read more

They have it together now! I love having my groceries delivered! I don't like grocery shopping and never have. Plus I save a ton of money by not impulse buying. I peruse the deals weekly and have been able to eat well and stay within my budget! All the drivers have been wonderful. Make sure and tip well (at least $10) if you live in the boonies like me (Pine Grove, CA) It's well worth it with the price of gas and the time and money saved. Again, I order on-line for pick-up. I schedule the pick-up well in advance of my arrival. When I get there I am told that someone will be right out. !0 minutes later, I call again, I tell them I am willing to come inside to get my order....I did this to SAVE TIME. After 20 minutes, my order is finally delivered to my car. Why bother?!?!? But, what really angers me is that no one ever says they are sorry for the wait. read more

I've been using their order and pickup service.for several weeks now. It's been surprisingly good, but not without a few issues. With few exceptions, I've been pleased with the produce which was chosen, and have found it fresh and tasty. You sometimes can't find products you may usually purchase and have to find a creative substitute. The entire process is easy and I love not having to go in the store during Covid. When you arrive, you park in a designated spot, call the number on the sign, and within minutes your order is delivered. A recent problem with my order required I return to the store, 45 minutes from my home. Kudos to Kristi for working with me to resolve my issue and make the trip down from the mountains worth my while. The service we have received on each of our three very large orders has been excellent and we will continue to shop here. read more

Safeway in Jackson California has the best Halloween and Punkin display in our county. Wally General manager and his staff made a joint effort to make the Store fun for family and especially kids. I DoorDash pick up groceries at Safeway all the time and I get excited when I come in and see the excitement in the store. They're also the best stocked of all the stores in Amador county best selection and competitive pricing again great job and thank you to all the staff for being patient customers can be cranky in these hard times with the prices going up it seems like daily. Of all the stores in the county, this one has consistently been the best stocked throughout the pandemic. The store manager, Wally, always goes above and beyond with his fun seasonal displays like his newest Halloween pumpkin display! He lives for the store! Cashiers and self check staff are kind even on the hardest days, when they've been yelled at by customers all day. Prices are very competitive and service is always great. Great work from Wally and staff. It's like going into grandma's house on the weekend- always new and exciting, good food, and you can always find what you need. If you can't, a staff member will help you out! They're always friendly and greet you, and tell you to have a nice day. It's a shame to see the negative reviews for this individual store which are usually directed toward corporate issues- this Martell Safeway cannot control your call center for deliveries! My friends and I come in here on our way to Kirwood every trip so about 3-4x a month & every time I've had the pleasure of seeing Lisa, it's been nothing short of a great experience. Used to shop there a lot but am down to maybe once a month now and after today, maybe less. They have a very bad "bait and switch" habit. Today their add had hams for Easter advertised for 87 cents a pound but of course they were out, the butcher said they would not be getting any more, the warehouse was out, and no rain checks. The same thing happened in March with corned beef. They're known for this kind of bad business practice and it's obnoxious. Too bad as the meat, bakery and produce selection is good. read more

I have been shopping at this Safeway for close to 10 years now, and each time I go I'd become more disenchanted with Safeway. My first gripe was that Safeway used to have a very good selection of products now you have a choice between their brand and maybe one other brands for an item. Second is that I've noticed that this particular store sells a lot of items that are way past their expiration date. Next I signed up with Safeway so I could get their electronic coupons. Sounded like a good idea but I can't make the program work. I have had staff members download the program three times and the program still will not work. About 80% of the coupons do not work and the checkout clerk has to manually enter the discount in. My next complaint may not be all of their fault but I recently purchased a dozen eggs, from Eggland,s Best cage free, before the expiration date but out of the dozen eggs three of the eggs were moldy inside. At this point I don't know if I'll ever eat eggs again. My final complaint is that I tried to reach Safeway to complaint directly to them. I found it impossible to reach them so I decided that I would go public and complain on Yelp. For those of you who read this thank you for your time. SAFEWAY has more than 1 problem! You can count on NEVER enough CHECKERS nor DELI workers! Particularly at busy times and holiday or 1st of the month shopping! I've wasted WAAAY too much time waiting in line! ALSO, the PHARMACY has major help and screwed up SERVICE issues! They rarely get my orders right and always a line waiting for service! Safeway has always been my go to store. This location did have some changes about year and the service and quality seemed to have suffered. It looks like that has improved recently. Today I picked up a few deli sandwiches. Both the ladies behind the counter were accurate and helpful. Checkout was ok. The store stinks. I usually enter the store on the produce side and every time I am overwhelmed by the foul smell. I don't know if it is from the produce, the meat or fish department. One other concern I have. At night only one set of doors is unlocked (produce side) The store is large and in an emergency there is only one door to get out. read more

Employees are rude as all hell. Once saw a cart race down an aisle that nearly collided with two unsuspecting customers. Had an employee ring me up without saying a word to me or making eye contact. Last time, got harangued by an employee when there own self-check our system wasn't working. Her attitude was so disrespectful I had to blow her off, at which point she turned around and started bitching about me. If I had reported her, it would have made no difference. So sometimes Little Amador County leads the national trends, but I bet you'll be surprised how this time.. it's not a good thing.. If you are a frequent Starbucks coffee etc. drinker you'll know that you have been able to order drinks with lite or medium ice at no difference in price since they started at any location run by Starbucks!. Perhaps you are a TikTok user and know this, but perhaps you just shop at Safeway and feed your Starbucks habit while in the store. Yes I know there's a real Starbucks run location a few hundred yards away, but hey! It's the same drink and sooo much more convenient so why not? well I'm going to tell you why you should avoid Safeway's Starbucks in Martell, CA! I'll tell you why not, the local Safeway store "manager" and his barista deputies have decided they should charge you extra, something like $0.75 per drink just so you actually get a decent slug Of the "mix" you are ordering in the drink you are requesting!. They want to give you 1-2 inches of the requested drink in a vente cup.. then they fill it with ice or water... not Fair you Say, no signage - no indication of this charging approach displayed anywhere except out of the mouth Of a surly barista! Never mind that Starbucks says there is no extra charge for light ice in their stores,. Safeway in Martel/Jackson have decided to break new ground and lead the nation by applying sneaky little charges. Never mind inflation, the Amador cost of living increases are driven by the staff at Safeway.. I suggest you look elsewhere for Your drinks...maybe even shop elsewhere as well.. Raleys or Savemart, or Walmart all offer Complete Ranges of products and Don't rip you Off, and they offer better customer service in the process. I'll skip telling you how the manager made snippy replies about how he'd adjust their signage with a postit note, or how his barista refused his request to make the drink as I requested it.. I'm sure by now you get the picture, avoid hidden charges and profiteers! Avoid Safeway, you can get real Starbucks drinks made the way you request them without extra charges being added by Safeway to boost their profits.. drive or walk the 200 yards and get the real stuff at the official price.. avoid Safeway. and yes Mr Moderator, this is a review of Safeway and the way they sell Starbucks branded products.! no more censorship! read more

I went in the day before my sons wedding and wanted a small cake. The lady in the bakery was so helpful. I found a cake but it wouldn't feed everyone so she offered to make me the same cake just bigger. I picked it up and it was beautiful!! Took it to the wedding and it was absolutely delicious!!!
