One of the great challenges when you live in a small community is staying as objective as possible with a Yelp review... We live about two miles from this Save Mart in Jackson, California... Our population is just over 5,000... Virtually any store we walk into is staffed by neighbors, friends or others we know... All those disclaimers said, let's look at this store... The first thing you notice is that it is spotlessly clean... Next, you are likely to be greeted by not one, but several members of the staff... Always with a smile that says they are happy to see you... A left turn will take you into the produce department... For a rural community, we have a better selection of top quality produce than most of the stores in our larger neighboring urban communities... The prices are fair and competitive -- again, not always the case in rural stores... Other reviews have mentioned Phil, the store manager... He is well worth those mentions... His crew has been trained to be just about everything you could hope for in a grocery store staff -- friendly, informed, helpful and willing to go a long way extra for their customers... Ask where is something in the store, you do not get directions, you get led to the aisle and shelf... In most cases, they will also mention similar items on sale or better quality at the same price... Now the problem with a small community: the meat and seafood staff have become so familiar with our preferences that they will go out of their way to snag us in another area of the store if they see us when they have received something fresh that they know we will like... Fresh Dungeness crab, true cod or lovely ahi, doesn't matter... They'll find us to let us know they have it... Best grocery in Amador County, hands down... read more

They used to have the best roasted chicken in the county and I often went mainly for that but, no more. The last few chickens have been smaller and overcooked so, won't be back. The prices are terrible and the produce sometimes not as good as it used to be. Back to Raley's I guess, closer and more consistent. read more

Wyatt is an absolute joke who pays no attention to detail and does not learn from his mistakes. Zero empathy, canned apology, and had the audacity to claim to be the GM. He's been there for 6 months and has admittedly made the exact same mistake. Now I have to drive for an hour to go get my refund. Y'all better have some gas money for me too. My time is valuable! We bought one of the deli's pre-prepared, $9.99 sandwiches this past week. When we opened it up to add condiments, we found the cheese was sliced by the deli in a way that would make it appear the sandwich had full slices of cheese. It's pretty clear this was done intentionally, and we are very disappointed by this gross misrepresentation of product. Will not be buying this product from Save Mart again until it is corrected! We expect better from this store's deli. read more

Hate hate hate having to clip coupons. Thought they got rid of paper coupons to make things easier than came on line coupons. Have to spend about 15 minutes going through them every week. Going there is out of my way and this just gives me another reading not to go there. I know other stores do the same and I hate that also. They say they are making things easier but there seems to be more hoops to jump through. Wish the family still owned it. read more

A big enough supermarket but a bit expensive as you might expect. Grocery Outlet is nearby and has some, I say some, better deals and then there are a couple of other supermarkets around that are the usual for this area. read more

As a minority this store makes me uncomfortable to the point that I will only return to get a few items but I won't do all my shopping there. I discovered their delicious deli dept, however, 2 of 3 occasions that I've purchased the same exact sandwich, I've been overcharged by $1 and when I asked why I was told that the "prices change everyday". My most recent visit I purchased the 5 for $5 each packaged meats..and they all rang up regular price. The manager corrected it but at this point I feel like I'm the one creating problems just by shopping there. But it's not me, it's them. read more

Looking for ready made food on thanksgiving day. Raleys and Safeway all out of any hot food...went to Save Mart and the deli person offered to make some fresh fried chicken for me! What a nice person! They also had turkey dinners with the fixings ready to just reheat so picked up some of those too! Wanted to compliment the deli person but unfortunately did not get name! Was about 1:30-2 pm so whomever was working at the deli that time on thanksgiving day, thank you so so much!! read more

I really like this store and the people there however the prices for helium is insane. I know its expensive but i paid 60$ for baloons. The the most expensive and biggest baloon exploded before i even got it in the car. read more

Everyone is very friendly the store is always clean and the produce is fresh. I rather shop here than at any other store in town.

Save Mart is my go to store, so I was very happy to find this one on my way to Nevada. It's clean and the staff is very friendly.

I bought some meat that looked good but when I got it home, it smelled bad. I called immediately, put it in my freezer and returned it when I had time. The manager, Phil, was not only cordial but refunded my money and gave me a gift card for my trouble. I would give this store 5 stars if the meat had been good to start with. But that's all water under the bridge by now. I'll cheerfully shop here when I'm in town! read more

I purchased a "pre-cooked" ham dinner for Thanksgiving. Spent $50.00. I was under the impression that I could bring it home and serve it, after all, isn't that why you buy a "pre-cooked" dinner? Come to find out, I still have to cook all of it. I have to cook for 3 hours and was not supposed to, this is everything I was needing to avoid this holiday because of special circumstances. I am very disappointed and will never buy a pre-cooked meal from Save Mart ever again. read more

Best meat and seafood counters of any supermarket in Amador County. Also has a very nice produce section. The rest of the store is pretty much what you would expect to find in any of our local supermarkets. But if you're shopping for fish this is your go-to place to shop. And, as another reviewer said this is a holdover from the days when Albertsons operated the store. read more
