I was looking for some BBQ while visiting central Missouri while in town for a dusc golf tournament. Between Columbia and Jefferson City, Sweet Smoke was the most highly rated. We were closer to the mall location than the downtown one. As we pulled up, it was located in what is a sad reminder of our culture gone from the 80s and 90s....an old remodeled Pizza Hut. But I'm sure glad I made this stop as it is being put to good use. I went with the 2 meat plate with pulled pork, brisket, potato salad, and jalapeño grits. My buddy with me ordered the same except he ordered mac and cheese instead of potato salad and got a half rack of ribs. The pulled pork and ribs were superb! The ribs had a sweet smoky glaze and was very meaty. The pulled pork was seasoned well and was very tender. The brisket was ok but was nowhere near the level of the pulled pork and ribs. The jalapeño grits were thick and everything I want from grits. I'm from Alabama and grits are hit and miss for me. The jalapeño ones were some of the best I've had. Solid potato salad with the mustard mayo concoction and red potatoes. There are 5 sauces and the KC Sweet stood above the rest as an elite sauce. The mustard one was very good with the pork. The hot sauce sorta was interesting and could be a good match with the correct entree. The Texas and Midwest Heat were good. They had fresh-brewed sweet tea that made this Bama Boy smile! Sweet Smoke is a solid BBQ option for central Missouri. Go with the pulled pork, ribs, and jalapeño grits with some KC Sweet.

Been here many times. Turkey is a must. Tonight we had the Boss Hog and the whole plate was great! They have a decent draft list too- really happy to see Last Flight beer.

    Love the variety of sauces!

Excellent service and BBQ here! We split the Boss Hog platter and BBQ pork sandwich for 3 of us and we have leftovers. My favorite bites were the tender ribs, smoked turkey and the flavorful sausage. Mac n cheese and jalapeño cheese grits were my preferred sides. Interior is clean and spacious. In town for business for a couple of days and tried this local BBQ joint. This place is legit. For sides I ordered the jalapeño cheese grits and there were silky smooth and oh so amazing! Then the pit beans. Smokey sweetness in a cup, so delicious. Chunks of sausage and pork mixed in. I had the combo plate with smoked Turkey and the sliced brisket. Excellent smoke flavor, moist and tender. This is a must try if you are in the area and for the folks that live here, this is a gem.

I love bbq, its so easy to eat low carb. Typical pay when you order, no server kind of place. Food came out very quickly. I loved the patio here and I was glad to not fight with downtown parking. This is my favorite spot in Jeff City, I will definitely be back!

I have the baby back ribs for dinner and they were the best ribs I've ever ever had. The tater tot tots are pretty good too ! I got them to go.

I Love Texas Tacos with fries

So I'm in town for work and have eaten sandwiches for lunch and dinner all week so far. I was dying for something else tonight, specifically tacos, but didn't feel like driving far from the hotel. Enter Sweet Smoke BBQ. Nearby? Check. Tacos on the menu? Check. Decision made. I got there a little after 5 so they weren't busy. I walked up to the bar to order and was greeted promptly. Ordered the I Love Texas tacos and when asked what side I wanted, I asked for the jalapeño grits. But she said they were out of them. I was bummed, but thought fries would be fine. The tacos were really my focus anyway and I got my order to go. Y'all. I don't know if anything has hit the spot the way these tacos hit the spot. It was like I got everything on my Christmas list and then mom and dad gave me a Ferrari just because. Three tacos. One turkey, one pulled pork, and one brisket. I was sort of "meh" going into the turkey one and pulled pork isn't usually a favorite of mine, but I quickly realized each taco was a star. The flavors of the smoke combined with the corn relish and sauces were ecstasy on my tongue. And let's not forget the fries! The sneaky underdog. They were perfectly crispy and salty and flavorful. And all this after taking it TO GO and eating about 15 minutes after picking it up. The only big drawback was the side of bbq sauce I got (the Texas one) didn't taste quite right and was almost congealed, like a jelly. Definitely looking forward to trying more from the menu and hope they have the grits next time, too. AND fries.

Love that they serve food from the truck at the Warehouse in Genoa. Everything was a fair price and tasted great.

I imagine the food would be much better if I ever got it actually hot. One of many places I will not miss leaving Jefferson City.

We looked over the menu and saw they had sweet tea. More on that in a moment. That's important for Bama Boys. The menu is pretty simple with pulled pork, wings, and burgers. I went with a full order of wings. 10 wings were $20. I thought that was pretty high though they were terrific! I chose them to be naked and had DAT Honey, Spicy BBQ, and Sweet and Spicy on the side. DAT Honey was a superb sauce especially mixed with the homemade ranch. The other 2 sauces were good too. Now back to the sweet tea. As I came in thinking I was going to get a fresh-brewed homemade sweet tea turned out to be purchasing a bottle of that abomination of sweet tea known as Gold Peak. It was comical how fast I told the guy at the register I would rather take a water. Then I receive a bottled water from Sam's. The owner did throw in a cookie for me to offset the price. But I wasn't impressed with the drink options. The service was good though! I really debated between a 3 and a 4 rating but the most important thing to me about a restaurant is making sure my food tastes amazing. JQ's delivered on that and plus the service was friendly and fantastic. I didn't like the price of 10 wings or the drink options but if you don't mind that, JQ's is a solid lunch spot.

Besides my family-in-law's cooking this was the highlight of our Missouri culinary experience…read more After a 3 hour flight it was a three hour drive to our destination. About 2 hours in we see signs on highway 54 for "Barnyard Smokehouse". Drooling over the signs and starving my wife start calculating by the time we arrive at our destination it'll be too late to eat with family so we follow the signs. There's no offramp, just hang an instant right off the highway onto the dirt road at the barnyard. Used to clearly marked offramps I missed it and had to take a detour. Luckily in Missouri you can make u-turns on the freeway :-D The entire property is the "Central Missouri Meat & Sausage". There's a deli, market, and restaurant called "Barnyard Smokehouse". Beef and pork is locally raised and butchered on site. Walking in the door we're greeted by warm and friendly people telling us to sit wherever. The restaurant is inside the market/deli to the right. Lots of tables. To start we order some fried pickles. They're sliced thin and battered in cornmeal and served with ranch dressing which is one of the food groups in Missouri. I wish the pickles used were more sour but they tasted really good. For dinner I had their smoked brisket with Texas toast, BBQ beans and Mac-n-Cheese. My wife had the same thing but with "bacon, cheddar, and ranch potato salad" and mac-n-cheese. When it came out I was skeptical since the tri-tip came out in paper thin slices but I shouldn't have judged a pile of meat by its looks since it was fantastic. Beef was saturated with smoky goodness and due to the thin cuts it was super tender. On the table was several made in house BBQ sauces. I really enjoyed their spicy one and my wife liked the sweet one. Side dishes were great too. Due to our odd flight times we only had a tiny sandwich on the airplane so we both devoured everything on our plates. While waiting for our food I walked over to the dessert case and perused. Another standard item in Missouri are refrigerated whip creamed based "pies". We ordered the oreo cookie one. It was gut busting rich. Thick slab of dense vanilla custard topped with crushed oreos and whipped cream. Super rich and decadent. We both felt like we were going to burst after our meals but it was a great start to our vacation. When walking around the market after we saw these giant 6 to 7 foot cured meat sticks made from pork. Since we were going to a potluck in a few days we got 4 of them and at the party cut them up into bite sized pieces. These pork sticks are AMAZING. The BBQ flavor was the favorite followed by the jalapeno. They have them in more reasonable sized pieces too that are vacuum sealed. I bought some for myself and some co-workers. If you find yourself driving on Highway 54 through Fulton, MO do yourself a favor and follow the signs to this great place!!
