It saddens me to write this review because I truly love their baked goods, but in light of current events, I've decided it's appropriate. Last July, I stopped at this bakery, which I have done so many times in the past. I went in and stood in line, wearing a mask and six feet behind the customer in front of me. When the young woman behind the counter finished with that customer, she directed her attention to the man standing behind me. I told her I hadn't been helped yet, but she behaved as though I wasn't even there. Another employee also passed me up and offered to help the next customers. Again I announced I was next in line and needed help. She looked at me and I told her the other woman had refused to help me, to which she replied "she must have not seen you." At that point, the first woman glanced at me but still said nothing. I tried to make sense of what had happened and became acutely aware I was the only person of color (I'm Asian American) in the building. And why had it never happened before? In all of my previous visits, my husband had been with me, and he is Caucasian. read more

Delicious ... but the girl at the counter young girl blondish hair was not the friendliest This bakery gets all kinds of people that drive through the town that a simple smile could make someone's day. I just want to say to her whatever in her life that she is grumpy about I hope goes better for you. It's ok. I wasn't blown away by the baked goods. They may have a better selection in the morning. We were there in the late afternoon. The donuts were a real disappointment, but donuts are so much better fresh. These were dense, heavy, and overcooked (very dark). The custard in the cream-filled one was very good though. We also bought some dutch crunch bread, a fruit bar (lebkuchen?), and something that looked a bit like a pretzel, but was sweet and flavored with cardamon. We really liked the last two items. Just had a really weird unwelcoming experience? I'm new to town and have been trying the different coffee shops. I went in and ordered a raspberry Italian soda w no cream, fairly simple order. I had to repeat it to the cashier about 5 times and then the barista made it wrong.. When I asked for it again with no cream (a 6th time at least?) the barista threw her hands in the air and threw the cup in the sink? She was clearly upset that she had to remake a simple drink.. Then the barista sarcastically yelled "have a nice day" as if it was my fault somehow that their staff can't communicate with each other? Just a weird experience that made the whole thing really uncomfortable. I probably won't go in again if that specific barista is working.. read more

Great bacon maple bars but the fruit bar cookies were the best my son and I have ever eaten

Maple chocolate bar was good. If you like a crispy fritter (which I do not) then this is the spot for you!

Went in today and got a raspberry Danish and a chocolate chip cookie. The Danish looked big and beautiful but was totally hollow. The whole thing maybe weighed a couple ounces. There was more frosting on top than there was raspberry. Costco has way better Danishes in their bakery. The chocolate chip cookie was also big and beautiful but it lacked flavor. It was clearly made with margarine and white sugar. It just wasn't as satisfying as it looked. I recently saw a meme that said: "There should be a refund on calories for things that didn't taste as good as you thought they would." That's totally my take on this bakery. It's one saving grace is that the service was spectacular. We were welcomed right as we walked in the door with a warm hello and friendly smile. read more

This place has a bakery lunch joint behind the back. My review pertains to that. We're driving from Twisp to Seattle. We're hungry. Cle Elum is the place we've planned to make our obligatory lunch stop. We see the Cle Elum Bakery, it says sandwiches. We go in. They tell us it's out back in a separate building. We make our way there, check the menu, and order: 1) Pastrami and Swiss on "Dutch Crunch" bread. (subbed out from Rye). I was told it was a old world style bread (crunchy on the outside, etc.) 2) Turkey and Cheddar on Wheat. 3) French Dip. $7.50 for each sandwich, plus 75 cents for a bag of chips. We get some. Result? $23.65. The kicker? I tipped when I paid the bill before the sandwiches were made. I do it all the time...usually cuz I feel obligated by the little dotted line ...I mean I'm signing it right in front of them. What kind of jerk puts zero and re-writes the number unchanged on the lower line! But I never usually regret it. After today I'll not be tipping before service again. A guy in line behind us orders a tuna. We sit down. 5 minutes later, the guy behind us walks out with his tuna. I'm pissed. I return to the counter, lady behind the counter says, 'oh, your French Dip is hot, that's why it takes a little longer.' She returns to her work area and STARTS making my pastrami and my wife's french dip. Right in front of me. Another 5 minutes later, and she brings out my sandwiches in 3 styrofoam boxes (we ordered them to go.) I ask for a bag. She asks, "for what?" I look at her. "A bag...for these", I say. She stares at me. She finally moves to the espresso machine to search for invisible bags under it. She then returns, stutters, "uh,,,", and I say, "never mind." I walk out. Here's where the fun begins. My wife's French Dip was sans jus. My pastrami was on what can only be called glorified store-bought "white bread" that was definitely not old world or crunchy. Pastrami was probably ok, but the sandwich was stuffed with lettuce and tomato, and a tiny portion of mustard. Plus it was cold. A personal preference maybe, but how can you enjoy pastrami cold? My kid's turkey sandwich? Again, store-bought wheat bread...we're talking Wal-Mart brand here. And this sandwich shop is supposed to be supplied by its own bakery! If we'd stayed I would have at least been able to ask for more mustard. (My wife did run out and get her au jus. It was bullion and water from the espresso machine, heavy on the water.) Or at least I could have asked for my money back. But we had to get on the road right away. Bottom line? I got ripped off. BAD SERVICE, BAD FOOD, SMALL PORTIONS. read more

Stopped in here while passing through town back to the Seattle area. The bakery was almost empty, granted, it was 2 pm. Nonetheless, what they DID have was old and stale. Got a couple bear claws, 2 other donuts, and some cookies. The donuts and cookies at any regular grocery store bakery are way better, even when stale. Don't waste your time or money. Gave it two stars because I didn't try their coffee and their breadsticks were all sold out, so they must be pretty good. Otherwise, wouldn't recommend. read more

What a fun and yummy bakery to visit. Great prices. Excellent variety! They also have a wonderful selection of selection of souvenirs also.

This bakery and Owen's are on our "must stops" whenever we are out this way. Our two must-have items are the cheesy garlic bread and divinity cookies. A few trips ago they were out of the divinity cookies. Holy first world problems people! The bf had a full on meltdown the likes of which I hope I never see again. That period of time will forever be known as "The Great Cookie Mishap of 2012". Forget the Mayans, I can predict when the world ends and I know for sure that it is the next time he doesn't get those damn cookies. And yes, they are that amazing. Luckily they made some more on the last day of our trip. This last time I called ahead and they had them waiting as soon as we got to town. Apocalypse averted. You're welcome.... In addition to cookies and cheesy bread they also have some fantastic donuts and an assortment of jams and honey. The prices are fair and the employees are friendly in that genuine small town way. My only complaints are that they often sell out of things and they aren't open 24/7. read more

Meh. The place smells great when you enter, but goth times I've been there the donuts were overcooked. It seems to be an institution around Cle Elum though. My wife said: "I want to like this place more than I do", which sums it up pretty well for me too. They sell Cafe Vita, which is awesome, but the coffee was not right last time I was there... stale or something. They have a porta potty only. :-( read more

Latte: Double shot, Cafe Vita, perfect temperature. Awesome! Cherry danish: Perfect texture, not cake like or dry. Nice chunks of whole cherries. Fantastic icing. Divinity cookies: OMG OMG OMG :D I grew up eating these! Not the meringue like candy more like a light as air almost crispy but still cake like sugar cookie. Just like I remember. Candied fruit danish: Wow this thing looked weird but it was super delicious. It's like a cross between a scone and the German holiday bread stollen. Stopped there over Labor Day weekend. The service was great! Friendly and efficient. Got some absolutely wonderful Huckleberry Tea, donuts, a cinnamon roll, and cookies to go. The donuts were great. We tried one of several different kinds so we could do a nice sample. Our favorites were the Maple Crunch, chocolate eclair, cinnamon roll, and the Cinnamon crunch... but all were good. The cookies were even better. Again, I got two each of six different ones so we could try a range. I think our favorites were the fruit bars and the divinity cookies, which were (ahem) divine. (delightfully light and delicate in taste). I also loved the peanut butter ones (more or less how I make them). All were good, those were our favorites. And the cookies were, in my opinion, a deal. So if you are headed that way, I'd stop in and try some. read more

First of all, the owners are fantastic individuals and always go the extra mile to make sure we feel welcome. A family owned and run business-- and incredibly yummy treats. We also enjoy the Bakery House Cafe next door. Delicious homemade soup and sandwhiches on fresh bakery bread... We stop each and every time we drive by Cle Elum on our way or even if its not "right on the way" to where we are headed... east of the mountains. It's a great special treat for our whole family! Wife and I stopped at this cute little bakery in downtown Cle Elum as we were passing through. Enjoyed our sandwiches, dessert, and coffee. Staff was friendly but not a lot of seating to the point that the folks at the table next to us kept bumping our chairs and table. Recommend more seating with a little more room instead of all the merchandise taking up valuable seating space. Everything else was great. read more

Cute place. I felt the pastries we just okay. The cookies crumbled. The turnovers were good and flakey.

My husband and I were driving through w/ no time to stop for lunch, so we each chose a Caesar chicken wrap to go. We passed on the bakery items as they appeared old and stale (this seems to be the recent consensus of people who have bought them). In a word--TERRIBLE. Mine had as much fat as meat and we both think they had to have been made several days ago because the wraps were so dry and brittle they were like eating a moist stale cracker wrapped around a small amount of contents. We threw the wraps out. I was embarrassed for whomever owns this place because of how far it's fallen. A lot of people can go through Cle Elum or drive right past it. read more

On our way back towards Seattle, we stopped by this bakery (with a cute store front) for a quick pick-me-up. Walking in, they sold (what looked to be) homemade packaged pasta and soups, along with pastries and breads. The displays weren't full and the selection was so-so. Got a mocha and a lemon pastry, but it was hard and dry. Came and left without leaving much of an impression. read more

I have been going to the Cle Elum Bakery every year since I was little and it's still as good as I remember. The donuts may not be as good as say, Top Pot or Krispy Kreme, but they are pretty tasty. I always get the fruit bars and the divinity cookies. The elephant ears are awesome, and the cinnamon raisin bread is much better than any other I've had. You gotta get there early because they run out of all the good stuff by noon! Also, yes they don't have a restroom, but there is a dairy queen and burger king right down the street if you really need to go that bad. read more

On a recent camping trip to the Teanaway, we ventured away from camp in search of something for dinner. Spaghetti ingredients for dinner came from Safeway and dessert from the Cle Elum Bakery. We had hoped for pie and there was one left - an apple crisp pie and it was delicious. We also got french bread, but it was nothing special - just more expensive than if we'd got the same at Safeway. We've bought donuts here a few times for the kids and have been disappointed each time. Save yourself the trip and just buy some donuts at Safeway. They're cheaper and they will be much better. These are always a little tough and dry. Also, if you get a maple bar or a chocolate bar, the frosting is super thin. Perhaps their other goods are better but stay away from the donuts. read more

I was hugely disappointed when I went and got breakfast for my boyfriend and I and order 2). Breakfast burritos and 4) doughnuts. The burritos we're so disgusting, they were full of nothing but Frozen cubed potatoes barely any cheese sausage and if there were eggs in it I didn't see any. This is my favorite morning stop if passing through Cle Elum. The doughnuts are wonderful. I can't pass up a REAL apple fritter. Yummm! I am a black coffee guy so all I can say is it was hot and good. Grabbed some cookies and a loaf of bread and we were set for the road. Everything baked is great. Service is a little slow, however, they were training someone new. We also picked up a couple of quiches and a breakfast burrito as we still had a long travel day in front of us. I would say they are all right but not great! They are cold and you have to heat them up in the microwave. This is a bakery so this is definitely their weakness. read more

Our 1st time here. We were super excited as we drove from Puyallup to show our out of state family around Cle Elum and Roslyn. The young brunette that took our order was completely rude and threw our bags of pastries on the counter. We will never be back and will continue to take our business to Roslyn where everyone we encountered was very kind, respectful and more importantly professional.
