Read the crappy reviews but went ahead and booked a chimney liner …read more The price was competitive with what I read online. The secretary called and wanted to know if they came a day early was ok which was fine with me. Bill and James showed up early also. I usually do pretty much all my own work but do not like working on the roof and tall ladders. It always refreshing to see people who know what they are doing which seams to be a rarity these days. In and out cleanly and efficiently. Thanks Jack Hills !!!

Do NOT call this guy. This was one of the most bizarre interactions I have ever had. This man is…read morehostile, gruff and unprofessional. I would even go so far as to say that he might no be safe to have in your home. I called this business about two weeks ago and spoke to a very nice young woman to inquire about getting my gas fireplace cleaned along with a maintenance check. I also told her I wanted Jack to check my remote because it didn't seem to be working. She told me that it was a busy time but that was no problem. We set an appointment for about ten days later. On the morning of the service visit I got a call from Jack asking, "Do we have an appointment today?" I confirmed and he told me he'd be over in a few minutes. He arrived shortly and I showed him in. I work from home right now and was just starting an online meeting. Jack did not have a toolbox or anything that resembled stuff that would be used to clean a gas fireplace. I wasn't alarmed at first because I was working and only glancing up periodically. I figured he knew what he was doing. Fast forward about fifteen minutes, Jack is standing next to me and told me he was all done. I looked down at the fireplace, literally six feet away from me and I saw that the fireplace hadn't been cleaned. I reminded him that I called to have it cleaned and he told me I could "just vacuum it." I said, "Oh, I don't really have the special tools to get in there." He just brushed me off and started heading for the door. I stopped what I was doing and reminded him that I wanted him to check the remote, which I picked up and was holding in my hand to show him. He didn't even look at it. He went out to his truck and brought in a new, different remote. I then asked for a manual because I don't know how to use it and I had only just moved to my house and have never had a gas fireplace before. He went back out to get a manual and brought it back in. I thanked him, while at the same time feeling a bit confused, uncomfortable, and also still supposed to be on my work meeting. I asked for the fee and he told me to call his office later that afternoon and pay with a credit card or a check. He told me it would be $347 and then he left. No invoice, no cleaning, nothing. This remote was completely different from the one that was replaced so I looked it up online after my meeting and discovered that it retailed for $145. Needless to say, I was a bit taken aback. Was the $347 for the remote? Because otherwise, my fireplace was not serviced or cleaned. I called the office after my work meeting and left a message. A few hours later I received a call back from the very kind assistant and told her what had happened. Out interaction was very easygoing and respectful. She was as helpful as she could be, but also seemed confused about what to do. I told her I was going to return the remote. She said no problem but wanted to check in with her boss to inquire. She called me back and said that I could just return the remote at their office. She explained that the remote was extra because of taxes and shipping. She did not have an answer as to why the fireplace was not cleaned or tuned up. A few hours later my roommate drove over to the office and went in to drop off the remote. However, Jack was still out on the road, t and had not returned to the shop with the sensor to my fireplace, which I had no idea he had. His assistant DID know though. I did not watch Jack's every move while he was at my house so I did not see him switch out the sensors. In order for the new remote to work, he had to take that step. I don't know why he would take it from my house though, since it belongs to me. In any event, the assistant told my roommate that Jack would drop it off in my mailbox at the end of the day. In the meantime, I had texted Jack that I spoke to his assistant and confirmed that I was returning the remote. He replied with an angry text message using profanity and telling me that this has never happened to him before and that I was returning a "used remote", which is obviously absurd, since I literally had it in my possession for about six hours and never touched the thing. I have saved the text as it is aggressive and it made me very concerned that this guy might be a loose cannon. Unfortunately, the sensor was never returned. I waited nervously for him to pull up and drop it off but he never did. The next morning, I looked in my mailbox and learned that the sensor was not there. I told my roommate about the situation and he decided to text Jack to ask where the sensor was. Jack wrote back in about thirty minutes and stated that he will return the sensor when I gave him $150, cash only. My fireplace was neither tuned up nor was it cleaned. An invoice was never written up, and my property was taken from my home without permission. Jack Hill's Stove Shop is a big NO. Also, Jack did not wear a mask.

It is long but you will see shy he saved us from the very reak threat of a chimney fire.... My wife and I had him come out to clean our fireplace because a bit of smoke was coming back in when we were burning. After a quick 10 minutes, I could tell how knowledgeable he was. I asked him to take a look at the chimney from top down and tell us what he thought since we know we're gonna be in this house for at least 20 years. I also had lingering feelings the work done by prior sweeps was not adequate. He showed me what he found and answered every question I had: -outside top chimney needed some re-pointing on the bricks. -concrete wash on top had some cracks needing to be patched -concrete around brick at the base of chimney needed to be replaced. The concrete was the incorrect kind and was breaking down the brick overtime instead of reinforcing it. Through throughout all of this, he was also taking pictures to show me what I couldn't see such as when he was up on the roof with the gaps in the brick mortar. He then gave us an incredibly fair price for each of these items and laid out what his priority would be. We ended up having him do all of the work. He showed up on time, worked hard, cleaned afterward. Unfortunately, we still had an issue where some smoke was coming in. He came back the next day and took another look..... If you are not familiar... chimney sweeps clean from the bottom usually. So there didn't seem to be any need to look from the top. However, when took things off, he saw a level 3 creosote buildup. THIS IS THE STUFF THAT BURNS HOUSE DOWN. He removed it. ********* He saved our house and here's why...... We've been in this house for eight years, had two other chimney sweeps who created half of the problems he had to fix: 1) previous sweep repointed the chimney poorly and didn't seal it. Within 3 years, mortar was bbreaking up. 2) the cement around the base of the chimney that was the wrong kind --- put on by another sweep. This wrong kind of cemnent- $15 /bag/. The right kind William used, $50/ bag. I doublecheced all of this and he was correct. 3) before our buying the houyse, a line was put into the entire chimney, EXCEPT THE TOP 4 FEET. This is where the creosote kept building up and building up. It was such a siolid mass, William thought from the bottom he had reached the damper. It is such a relief to know we now have a safe chimney. And it is so frustrating those other sweeps did such shoddy work. William Britt should be the only chimney sweep you ever go to.

After about 3 weeks of calling people, I was able to get 2 companies to come out only to be charged for estimates and told to call to schedule the work at a future date. I only wish I had found him sooner and called him first.
