UPDATE TO ORIGINAL RATING It's now April 29, 2019 and at 3pm my landline phone rang...... I picked it up not expecting anyone to hear me, but I said "HELLO" and a man said, Hi, I'm from AT&T. I said...." you can hear me"????, he said yes, loud and clear. It's been 3 weeks to the day since my phone has worked!!! I asked him to call me back to be sure it's working and to let me see if I could dial out to another number and have that work too. Sure enough, I was able to make an outgoing call too and leave a message . AT&T called me back and again, he could hear me clearly. It seems that it was NOT directly Clear Rate's fault that my phone wasn't working, it was AT&T's equipment that Clear Rate utilizes, that was faulty. In the end, it was AT&T who was dragging their feet not fully inspecting nor fully troubleshooting my problem and kept blaming Clear Rate. read more

ISSUES WITH HOME PHONE LINE This communications company is shocking. Our family had a phone plan with them for many years however, one day they turned our service off and allowed another company to "take" or "port" our phone number without our consent. We went as far as calling their 8 different phone numbers, emailing 3 different departments within their organization, and chatting with someone via their chat service. Until today, this issue is still not resolved. My elderly family members are very emotionally disturbed over this issue. Many family still hold dear the value of having a home phone number. My sister has this service. That's another story. She has had no ability to make outgoing calls for a month. When I finally got in touch with someone on a terrible line a work ticket was created. She got instructions to remedy this but that did not work. It is now impossible to get in touch with their customer service department or to create and email request. Their phone system puts you in an endless look. I don't think anyone is actually there. I would like a return label for her equipment. Also would like instructions on disconnecting service so she can have am more reliable phone carrier. With her same number, This is beyond frustrating. Less then one star. I have a pair of neighbors who are both blind whom I read mail for. They got a call from someone claiming to be a rep from their current phone company with a better rate. Shortly after their phone was disconnected and a box was mailed to them which they could not get to work as they ARE BOTH BLIND. When they called the company the automatic phone service sent them in circles and asked for a phone number they hadn't yet received. They were billed for services they never received and have never been able to speak to a customer service representative or were even able to request a disconnection of service. They are now being threatened with collections for a service they never received! They are both BLIND AND CATEGORICALLY NEEDY! This is so predatory and deceptive I can't believe it's real. read more

The cost is excessive compared to any VoIP system, and the service has been miserable in the two years we've been using them. Our office phones were often dead (no dial tone), and we were charged for numerous spurious calls to 411, and one to 911 (yes, the police showed up). Getting refunds for the frequent outages was next to impossible. read more

I have reported this company to the Better Business Bureau. I have moved and want to cancel my service. I have called, emailed and opened tickets, all of which are ignored. I've called 4 times, each time sitting on hold in excess of 30 minutes, after which time the call is disconnected. I have sent 5 emails, all of which are ignored, and have opened 6 tickets, all which are immediately cancelled without contact or resolution. I read in one of the other many complaints that an email should be sent to hhart@clearrate.com, which I did, and of course it was also ignored. This is quite possibly the worst company I've ever encountered and am wondering if they are even a legitimate company!! I guess my next step might have to be legal action. I lost landline service on 8/22/2024 and contacted ClearRate Communications to no avail. I entered numerous repair tickets and every time I called to check on it, there was no repair ticket that matched the ticket information I was given. Every time I called the person who answered explained that they did not work for ClearRate Communications but took calls similar to an answering service. I was without service until 9/28/2024 (37 days). My security system relies on the landline, so I was also without my personal safety for over a month. Since then, I have experienced a total inability to reach anyone regarding my service and bill. I have emailed them at their support email provided, I have called and left voice mail messages to return my call, I have called multiple times and sat on hold for so long that I received their message "there is nobody available to answer your call", and I even chose the option to keep my spot in line and have them return my call. I have yet to receive a response to my multiple attempts at every option provided. I wonder how many employees they have since other reviews seem to report the same problems. This company hijacked our business phone lines and closed our Verizon account without authorization from us and then expected payment. After numerous pleas to close our account, they finally did and then expected payment for a service that we never provided final authorization for. They have been reported to the BBB where they have a 1 star rating. I reported them to the Attorney General of Massachusetts as well. Save yourself the trouble, this business is truly awful. It took a month for someone to answer the phone I was told they would close my account. The only way to stop it was to remove my credit card info. My elderly neighbor called to cancel service in May 2024, she started paying CenturyLink. Then in August, clear rate sent her a bill for $320 and turned off her home phone line. She called from her cell, left voicemails and emailed about it without 1 response. She paid the $320 just to get her phone line back while disputing the charges. It has been over a week with no phone and no call from Clear Rate. Company is a scam and we are contacting the Better Business Bureau. read more

I could only give them 1 star but they don't even deserve that. I finally gave up and cancelled my service and now they claim I owe them for the receiver that I sent back to them two months ago. They prey on the elderly and tell them they will lower bills. They then cancel their existing services without authorization. Their "customer service" line has no live people to speak to and just loops through prompts. Nobody ever answers emails or calls. This company called a tenant of mine, saying Century Link was going to stop land line service soon and convinced her to switch to them. We found out later that was not true at all, or even close to being true. They basically scared her into changing to their service for her land line. It's a year contract and now she'll be paying more for internet and phone (combined) since she had a bundled service with Century Link. I'm grateful to the other reviewers that told of their bad experiences because I then advised her against moving her internet over to them also, to try to reduce the overall cost. We have been good customers for over 20 years. This last summer of 2024 everything changed. Our landline started going bad in June. We tried to notify customer service on countless efforts. Several email responses were returned late summer. Service techs came out on 4 seperate trips in attempts to repair the line. The landline worked intermitten for about a week. We attempted to communicate our frustations & no phone contact was possible. With no landline service the rest of that year Clear Rate continued to bill us. We documented all email communications & continued to make contact by phone. ClearRate did discontinue service but continued billing us. We are now trying to make contact with their leadership team. We filed an official complaint with Minnesota BBB & now have a letter into the FCC. Can't believe companies are allowed to operate like this. We plan to make contact eventually, ClearRate owes us well over $400. read more

Misrepresented to our employee as Verizon, they captured our business phone line. The final monthly bill was 50% higher than Verizon. I called Verizon to explain the situation that Clear Rate Communications slammed our account. They were very helpful in getting my account reinstated with Verizon. I was told Verizon was aware of this company practices and Legal dept. was working on it. I am not surprised. My advice to others is don't pay the bill if you were slammed like my employee was! Do not do business with this company. Here is my experience. They contacted my brother with dementia on his landline and talked him into establishing service. When I called them, they made it so difficult to cancel, I decided to let it ride because it did save him about $10 a month. When he became too disoriented to use the phone, I called to cancel. It took me four long-wait phone calls over four days to get the service cancelled. A week later I got a bill for over $200 for the modem and an "early cancellation" fee. They promised to send me information by snail mail to return the modem, but as of this writing I have not received that mailing and will be charged $100 for the modem I cannot return. I need to update my review: Short version: Clear rate is a legit company that provided us the same phone and internet services as Century Link, but cheaper. BUT we were confused during the whole process (compounded by uninformed Century Link reps) and so we thought they were a scam (when they weren't). Detailed: I thought this company was a scam and unethical, but that is not true. There are two things Clear Rate really needs to fix: 1) They need to insist that their partner, Century Link, educates their customer service reps. I called Century Link twice and both times they told me that they had never heard of Clear Rate and that they do not partner with other resellers. This was not true and very confusing to me. Naturally I believed Century Link, and that Clear Rate was being highly unethical. 2) Clear Rate sales reps need to be clearer on what they're offering. They called my business partner who ended the call not really knowing what was going on. A family member died. We called to cancel service the same day. They wouldn't turn off the telephone service without a death certificate. Tried to talk with others there about the need to cancel, without success. We also cleaned out her senior apartment the day she died and turned the keys over to the property manager. Because they wouldn't cancel the service and the death certificate took almost a month to get, new people renting the apartment got her service to use and the estate has to pay for the service they didn't turn off. Good thing the new tenant didn't make international calls. We turned the case over to the Arizona public utilities commission, but they couldn't help us, as the death certificate is normally needed to turn off service. So, in summary, the customer died, Clear Rate refused to turn off service without a death certificate, the service had to remain on for the new tenants to use, and the Estate was at risk for all charges the new tenant incurred. They first got us by LYING about their relationship with our (then current) providers Century Link, costing us over 1k in contract termination fees, THEN since we decided to leave and go with a new provider, they CUT OFF our service WAY BEFORE the scheduled date with our new provider, leaving our business WITHOUT phones, ingoing or outgoing. We are a HOSPITAL! They were extremely rude when asked to fix the situation, did NOT care about the crisis they caused. Since being with this company, I thought it would be great! I'd save money and be supporting my home town instead of a big box store. It started off great! So, I got another line. COVID came and the service was still alright. COVID left and now, the customer service isn't what it used to be. + Waiting on the line for someone to answer is longer than it used to be. If that isn't enough the automated system needs to relearn math! 4 people ahead of you and your wait is 14 minutes to 3 ahead of you and wait time is 30 minutes!!! + I received a letter saying my payment was late and if it were not paid by a certain date, then my long distance would be shut off and turning it back on would cost extra. The payment was made 2 weeks advance the date and the long distance was still shut off! It has been not a pleasant experience getting it back. We have it for 1 line, but the other wasn't reconnected. Sooo... + On Friday 1/19/2024 I called from 2 different devices and each time was told your reps could not hear me and disconnectedthe calls after waiting for so long... my phones and mics were not muted. + Today Friday 1/26/2024 I ask to speak to a manager and was placed on a LONG hold. No one came back to let me know they were still there. I was dropped off in no man land. I know what it's like to work in a call center. Clear Rate Communications is a major rip off. I was totally misled about the savings for my landline. When I tried to cancel the service I had to change the phone number. Fortunately, I only use my land line for outgoing calls. Were this the major line for business call I would have been totally screwed. This business is a menace. Furious! Clear Rate Sales scammed my elderly parents into changing their phone company and from the add'l reviews here they are not alone!! When I called to have the $95 surprise bill explained & then zero'd out by this unknown company.... they explained to me how my mother accepted the change willingly. I explained that my mother has dementia so her word cannot be not contractually legal and challenged their questionable selling tactics. The Customer Service person played my mother's recorded "acceptance" call and she clearly says "...can you hang on a second I would prefer you to speak to my husband...." The agent pacifies her by saying that "I do have to finish with you but then I am more than happy to speak to your husband" which the agent NEVER DOES. The Customer Service rep acknowledged this was said, but that my folks were still liable for the charges. He was willing to waive the early cancellation fee as 12 months was expected...if we'd pay for the service period to date. All of this is just simply lousy. Its upsetting to my folks who have better things to think about. Its also a complete waste of time and money. To help balance Corporate Karma in the universe I intend to tell everyone how unhappy we are with their service! Also - I understand this company outsources their Cold Calling to a third party....so would like them to please review their selling tactics. Preying on the Elderly and expecting payment for services they did not earn is simply NOT OK. I was called today from Clear Rate, They said my phone bill would be 30 Dollars a month then I mentioned I have Internet so it went up to 75 Dollars a month Locked in for 12 months and if I stayed with them it would only be 75 Dollars a month for ever. When I gave my Husband the Phone to talk to them they hung up. I called Century Link Our Phone service provider and they didnt know any thing about Clear rate. Andrea and Nancy were both very helpful in canceling my mother's contract as she is 96 and was called and pressured into signing up. I will keep Clear Rate Communications as I am able to speak to an English speaking person and there are not a ton of prompts in order to get to said person!
