Just got a call from this company. When I told them I wanted to check with Century Link (my provider) I was belittled and called an idiot.

Beware of this SCAM. They called my business saying they had a partnership with CenturyLink and I just had to answer a few simple questions to get their new wholesale rate. I told them I had no communication with CL and they tried telling me they sent me numerous emails and letters and thats why they are calling. Once I googled the number it said SCAM. Based on the other reviews sounds like a terrible company and if you fall for it your losing the port of your number. If they call you, block them! Pathetic. read more

Avois them!!!! My mother-in-law changed to Clear Rate after getting a phone call about how she would be saving money. Not true. After she passed, we needed to move the phone service to a different apartment in the same building. After over 3 weeks without a phone, we cancelled service and got a new number with another company. Over two more weeks before they disconnected service. We were told the service was moved the day we cancelled. While I did make several phone calls to Clear Rate and finally got them to credit the move charge of $59, they will not credit me for monthly charges from Dec. 22 to Feb. 2 because they said they were still providing phone service to the old apartment. I also don't know what phone service they were providing to the new apartment because we could not get a dial tone, and then had the new company for more than a week before they disconnected. read more

PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY! I would like to begin by stating that I have given Clear Rate a star rating of 1, ONLY because there is no lower rating to give. (I would have much preferred a negative rating, but this was not possible.) They convinced my mother to switch over her phone and internet services to them. After a few days, with no internet service, we began the process of switching back to a company with a better reputation. We were able to obtain new internet services, with relative ease. However, it took nearly 6 months and numerous calls, for Clear Rate to simply allow the porting of my mother's number to the new company. And...ONLY after she was forced to pay nearly $200.00 for phone service we had cancelled nearly 6 months prior. Please, please, please do not allow yourself to be victimized. read more

Seems shady. We received a letter from them welcoming our business to their service for telephone yet we still have qwest/CenturyLink. Regrettably we discarded the dubious letter because today I found that someone reprogrammed our voice mail handset to a different number. Phone # searched through google reveals a few questionable website results with the domain tr in turkey. Clear Rate is by far the worst telephone and internet provider we've ever had. The actual service has been horrible and the customer service has been even worse. We've been without phone and internet service for over a week despite literally hours of phone calls (made from a location away from our home where service is available). We waited all day for a technician who never showed up even after we were assured halfway through the day that someone would be here to help us. We cancelled our contract with ClearRate and will happily pay slightly more for a different provider who cannot possibly be worse than ClearRate. read more

I would give them less than 1 star if I could. This company preys on the disabled. I had a phone for my mentally ill sister in my name through century link and she picked up the phone during one of their sales calls and unknowingly switched the phone service to clear rate. I call my sister last week and her phone is off. I call century link and they said I no longer had their service and that it had been switched to clear rate. I called clear rate to figure out how in the world I have an account with them and I've never heard of them. The customer service lady let me listen to the service call and you can hear my mentally challenged sister who doesn't even sound coherent giving them information. Now I have a 103.00 bill with them that they won't do anything about but suggest that I call the police on my sister and have her charged with fraud. So now she's alone without a phone for emergencies because of this horrible company. read more

I've been with them for four months since they called me. In that time I've never had a working home phone and every time I call to complain they say they'll send a tech in 1-3 business days. I ask them to have him call me when he's here because the problem is INSIDE, probably with their ATA device. But I want a tech to look it over to be sure. I was contacted via a sales agent cold call. They informed me that they could offer me a better rate than my current provider (Frontier). I agreed to the rate and was expecting a change within 3 days. 3 days later I was informed that in order to change over, they needed a $160 deposit. That was not what I agreed to over the phone. They canceled the order. The next day my long-distance was disconnected on my existing service and was a nightmare to reconnect. I do not understand why Clear Rate would have moved forward with the switch if they still required the deposit. It sure makes it look like they were holding my service hostage. My elderly parents did not authorize this crooked company to change their phone service. They were contacted by one of those unsolicited phone calls. We just contacted this crooked company to cancel this service that was not ordered and they want $100.00 along with $50.00 from last month. this entire situation is a pain in the you know what to get the original service back which may cost more to reinstate. Clear Rate called and misrepresented themselves to a member of my family and lied saying they were with my current phone provider and would save us money if you sign up for their services. I did not request their services nor did I authorize my service to be switched to Clear Rate. Do not use Clear Rate as they practice unethical "Slamming" techniques to get business at any costs. After they slam your line to their network and you change back to the service you really chose they charge a termination fee! Clear Rate is Very bad, do not use them.... ever!! read more

We could get internet service at 6megs with Frontier and now that we have Clear Rate communications we only get 1 meg in the same area and to top it off we get to pay 10 more dollars a month for shitty internet service. one of the worst to deal with, once your in, they'll take an arm and a leg before you leave. they bind you with a bunch of fines for breaching the contract, literally to break the contract will cost more than to stay with them, and you get locked in because you can't port the number out since you're contracted, they give you the option to move the fines to another line which can be delegated as a contract extension, but now they trap you with a bigger fine if you try to cancel that. having fun reading this now? stay away from this company, we literally just spent 1200 dollars just to break away from them just because we still had 2 year contracts on our lines. AND NOT TO MENTION THE QUALITY OF THE LINE SUPPLIED IS SUB PAR, always static on the phone, and they keep blaming the phone, even though we switch the phones around to test, it is definitely the line. Avoid Clear Rate and choose any other service provider. Clear Rate preys upon Senior Citizens with unethical business practices and terribly unprofessional customer service. Without warning or notice they disconnected service to a couple in their 80's and left them without phone service which they relied upon for Doctors and Emergency medical communications for over 3 weeks. Clear Rate then charged an exorbitant fee for the "privilege" of being reconnected even though the actual repair service was performed by AT&T which charged $0 for the labor / work on their infrastructure. Clear Rate is playing with fire as their negligence could have led to a catastrophic outcome for an elderly couple that did not deserve such disrespectful service as they have been customers for over 15 years and have never been late on a monthly payment. The loss of service was even escalated to CR supervisors. Their response lacked empathy or professionalism. They even attempted to extort extra fees from these Senior Citizens in exchange for reconnecting service. When engaging Clear Rate have a good attorney available to record the calls and then threaten legal action in order to achieve satisfactory results. Sad but necessary... read more

When we were talked into signing up with Clear Rate we were supposed to save $30.00 a month. We only saved about $20. when the first bill arrived. The rates have been inching up in the last 10 months. We also signed up for "Unlimited Calling" but last month we got a bill for an extra thirty dollars for 600 minutes of over use. After calling them I was told that the "Unlimited National Plan" had a limit of 4000 minutes. I asked if they knew the definition of Unlimited. They offered no explanation. My widowed Mother used to work for Mountain Bell. Mountain Bell has since renamed to Century Link. She retired from the phone company and part of her retirement package was to get free phone service for life. Now at 77 years old shes got an early onset of Alzheimer's and for the life of her she can't remember talking to anyone from Clear Rate, yet they switched her phone service to supposedly "save" her money. How could they EVER compete with FREE phone service? This is why I can not understand how this company gets away with scamming the elderly or disabled. I called (I have Power of Attorney) to dispute the charges and service switch, and although they did only have her as a customer for one month. They still sent her a final bill of $181.03. I tried today to call and dispute this, however they would not help me and said they would pass my dispute off to a manager which will supposedly call me back. If they don't, we will have to take the next step which truly should not be necessary. Clear Rate claims that they got her approval of the phone switch via a third party verification, however if my Mother really understood what they were trying to do, she would never have approved the switch. If I could give this company a zero star, I would. With all the other negative reviews on here for the same complaints, I wonder how this company can stay in business. read more

Run screaming! Called posing as our current communications company telling me that the US Government is requiring them to break up their monopoly and so they need to 'farm out' some of their current clients to other organizations. They recommended using Clear Rate Communications. Long story short - all of our business systems came to a screeching halt a day later and when our current communications company was called - they said having to break up their monopoly wasn't true. Luckily we were able to immediately sign back up with them but not until receiving an outlandish bill for over $600 for 1 day of "apparent service". Do not use this company! My dad had a stroke, and we installed a home phone to contact him easier. Unfortunately clear rate was the only available service in his area. They supposedly completed turning his phone on, but the phone never worked! I called customer service and spoke to extremely rude people. Each time that I asked to speak to a manager, I was told no, or that they were the manager. They kept billing my dad and I kept fighting because the phone never worked! They wanted him to pay a $99.00 service fee to come check on a phone that never worked! Even after begging then to fix his phone, they refused unless I would say that I agreed that he'd pay the fee. This company is a total scam. They took my elder father's phone number in July and I have been trying for 5 months to get the number ported back to his Verizon provider but they continue to put blocks on the number. My father has dementia and is unaware of switching phone companies. Since we thought the port back to Verizon had been completed, we were unaware that Clear Rate still had control of his phone and had blocked the line because of an overdue balance. I had originally paid what was owed at the time the number was to be ported back, but with the block on the line Verizon was unable to port, so Clear Rate continued to rack up monthly fees and because of the unpaid balance, they temporarily disconnected his phone. Being elderly with dementia, he needs to have access to a phone. Again I called Clear Rate in November and paid whatever balance was owed to unblock the number. After a 10 day wait, the number was still disconnected. I called Clear Rate again to find out two days after I paid the bill owed, they put another suspension on the line simply so the line could not be ported back to Verizon. I have filed compalints with the BBB and with the FCC, so I'm hoping they are able to help with his issue. I think it unfair that we have to incur costs to have a new phone number put in. read more

Clear Rate is a horrible business. If we could give the a Zero Stars we would! Preying on the elderly My husband and I pay all the bills for my parents now beacause my dad has Dimentia. He answered our landline one day and even though he didnt have the authority to okay switching phone services as it was in my husbands name, they let him (we live with and care for both of my parents) When the service tech showed up at our door, we told him what happened and that we did not want the change. He left without touching or changing anything...we had just canceled our old landline right before he came because we did not want anything like this to happen again,so we had no landline service. Even though we had no way to use the Clear rate service, they charged us for a month. My husband called to tell them this was happening and they said theyd just change it and theyd put the service in my dads name....my dad with dimentia...oh and by the way, they quoted my dad a price of $25 a month...we got a bill for $50! THEN despite my husband calling to complain when a second bill of $83 came to door... in my dads name this time, they refused to cancel the bill. Keep in mind we had absolutely no way to use our landline phones!!! They werent turned on at all by the service tech!!! And they are saying we still owe them for this last month and half that we COULD NOT USE OUR LANDLINE PHONES..NOT EVEN A DIAL TONE! DEFINATELY DO NOT RECOMMEND THEM!!! ....................UPDATE ON CLEAR RATE RESPONSE.................... A very well worded response from Clear Rate and of course they are very knowledgeable concerning the laws so they know exactly what they can get away with. These are the facts -They called our house and didn't ask to speak the person who owned the current service. I know they knew this because they billed my husband and later called it a clerical error -Offered my father $25 per month phone service which turned out to be closer to $50 with fees. We were paying $10 with no fees -When the technician showed up to switch the service from cable phone to regular phone lines we turned him away. I just got off the phone with one of the sales people Tony. He told me I would save $ 20-25.00 a month on my small business if I switched. I have Centurylink and pay $112.00 a month. There cost was $95.00 before any taxes. Tony also told me he didn't know the tax rates. I asked him for the federal rate and he said it was different in every state(news to me). They could not email me any info on the company or rates(Red flag). And then he got rude and hung up. The only comment he kept making was check the Better Business Bureau we are a great company. First I had to wait a week for the frontier tech to come out to tell me Clear rate messed up paperwork to get our number switched over. Now I have waited another week for clear rate to get the number set up with frontier. Still no call back from them after they said it would be 1-3 business days. I give them O stars!! Beware! They signed my 86 yr old mother up for service switching her from Century Link to them saying something about Century Link. She couldn't hear them nor understand. They said they did a verification process. My mom was agitated and told them she did not authorize this switch when she talked to them about her bill. When I spoke to the customer service department, they told me that they go after the elderly who have landlines (not exact wording but same meaning). Kathleen Gobart a Customer Service II level according to LinkedIn said she can't talk to me about my moms account because of FCC regulations. My mom has hearing aids and cant understand always on the phone. Gobart also said they're are no supervisors in that department and gave me Kevin to talk to? There are multiple complaints against this company on both the MI and MN BBB websites. Ironically, Thane Namy used to work for Century Link and now works as CEO of Clear Rate Communications. Interesting. I filed with the Attorney General too as I think my Mom should not have to pay a bill that she did not authorize service for. When our company was looking for a new provider of local and long distance phone service, high speed Internet, email and hosting of our website, it was recommended we check out Clear Rate Communications. We had been using a national cable company, but we did not like the fact that they kept raising our rates and the service was not reliable speed-wise. It seemed like we were sharing our Internet pipe with other businesses in the building. Our business depends heavily on our phones and high speed Internet, so we can't have outages or lags in performance. We had priced out several providers and found that Clear Rate had the best services, most reliable network and friendly, knowledgeable support for a very reasonable rate. Signing up and transferring our service was straightforward and didn't take long. The technician that came out to install our service was on time and answered all of our questions and was very professional and cleaned up everything before he left. We were up and running in no time. The customer support team has been great too and we have had no major issues to date. In fact, we have since added additional services including automatic backup of all of our files and we are now having Clear Rate manage our IT department. So, if we have any issues or concerns regarding email, phones or hardware, we just pick up the phone and they take care of everything. For a growing business like ours, this is key, we don't want to have to worry about our technical infrastructure and service, it should just work. If you are looking for a reliable phone company do not rely on Clear Rate. My elderly mother switched because it was cheaper. However, weeks ago when Florence was hitting the east coast and luckily we only received rain , we were without a telephone for over a week. She made two or three calls and they promised to be out on a certain day to fix the problem. They did not come on the day they told her and when they finally did get here to fix the problem, they didn't even check with her to see if the phone was working, which it was not. It still was cracking and popping. This is the worst service ever, maybe a cheaper telephone service but you get what you pay for which is not much. read more

Switched to Comcast a few years ago and never looked back, they sued us for breach of contract after we were forced to switch due to reliability issues with their phone and internet services. I told the woman who called today to take us off the list and she says "Ok I will call back later then" and hangs up. Why would anyone want to do business with a company that acts like that, and why would any ligament company continue to call and harass people that don't want their service. Do not use this service. I made the mistake of contracting with this company for my business and it has been a disaster. Their service is unreliable and their tech team seems unable to understand the programming of the portal. I am sure there are better options for VOIP services. I thought I would update my review. I am finally into the last year of our contract and the service continues to be awful. Actually, the phone service is good, it's the portal team who is untrained and unreliable. Once again their tech team has failed to update our voice message for my business for our holiday weekend. This has happened almost every holiday. It's not right that I have to call my office to confirm the message was changed since I've received a confirmation that they have changed it. Instead of the holiday message playing, it is playing our regular business message as if we are open and on our lunch break. This company is painful....they have major issue with their portal. No one seems to understand how it works and unfortunately you are forced to rely on them to make updates when you need a change. The only positive thing I can say is that their employees are friendly but when you are dealing with an incapable company, all the friendliness in the world can't make it right. read more
