When in Philly, I had to get a Philly Cheesesteak! Looking for restaurants near the Hilton Motto where I was staying, I saw that Cleavers was only a few blocks away from my hotel! I ended up coming back here twice because the food was just so good! It was a chilly evening both nights. When I walked inside the restaurant, the team had greeted me and asked if it was my first time, which it was! You could order at the Kiosks inside the restaurant, or at the front register. There wasn't anyone ahead of me so I ended up looking over the menu first before ordering. Cleavers offers cheesesteaks, beef, chicken, or veggie. You can also get it in a roll, wrap or bowl. Some of their sandwiches include the following Papa's Favorite Steak The Cleaver Effin Hot Steak Zinger Steak Chicken Cheesesteak Hoagie BBQ Chicken Chicken Parm and so much more! If you're looking for alternatives to the sandwiches, Cleavers does offer salads, Fries, egg rolls, chicken fingers, mozzarella sticks, onion rings, desserts and other options! I ended up getting the Cheesesteak Hoagie both nights, but tried different cheeses out. The first night I had the cheese whiz and the second evening I had the Cooper American cheese. I only had the steak and cheese on the seeded roll. I didn't wait long for my to go order, about 10 minutes. The walk back to the hotel was about 5 minutes, but the team at Cleavers wrapped my cheesesteak perfectly! It was still warm by the time I got back to the hotel. There is seating inside the restaurant though on the second level! Cleavers has my favorite cheesesteak. I enjoyed both the cheese whiz and the Cooper American cheese. The steak used was juicy and tender. The sandwich was huge! The Philly cheesesteak restaurants I go to in Vegas don't have seeded rolls, and you can tell the difference! The flavor was just so amazing! If you're local to Philly and craving cheesesteaks, I highly recommend going to Cleavers! The team members are great at the restaurant and the cheesesteaks were amazing!

Very good cheesesteak. I'm not gonna call it Dalessandro's great. But if you don't want to drive out for that Michelin Bib Gourmand version, which is possibly the best cheesesteak on the planet, this is a great option. Forget Pat's and Gino's both of which long succumbed to the mediocrity of over tourism. The cheesesteak is well prepared and you get a variety of options for toppings. You can do MYO or a variety of packages, in both beef and chicken. I built a basic with sharp provolone and sautéed peppers. It was very good. Service was good, we waited upstairs and then came back down to get the food. They also have a neat "help yourself" beer dispensing system but we didn't try it that evening. There's a few spots to sit. We were generally fine, until a non-customer came in and wanted to use the restroom by where we were seated, then threw up in the trash can, having all the signs and symptoms of suffering from cannabis hyperemesis syndrome. Ambiance is kinda classic diner, with tile floors, and nothing special but decent.

Stopped by for a quick ONE POUND ribeye cheesesteak, "The Cleaver", from Cleavers while doing a quick day tour of UPenn and my husband's old apartment and this thing converted me. Never in my life did I enjoy a cheesesteak, not that I've had any good ones, until I tried it here. Our interaction with the staff was short since we ordered the sandwich to-go and dipped. They were quick and friendly and we didn't wait too long for the cheesesteak. The inside did look like a nice, casual spot although I can't speak much about it since we didn't dine in. The cheesesteak itself was absolutely loaded with ribeye and cheese--two kinds according to their menu, Cooper American and Kraft cheese whiz. It was so big and rich that the three of us could barely finish this one sandwich--all for under $30!!! What a deal.

This was my first official Philly cheesesteak and it did not disappoint . I ordered "the block" and waffle fries through Uber Eats and the food was made so quick and delivered quickly as well. It was still hot and fresh. The meat was tender and there was the perfect amount of peppers/onions/cheese. The sandwich was also HUGE. Overall a great meal and def recommend!

This is where I had my first Philly cheesesteak that was actually from Philly and I feel like we chose a pretty good spot! For starters, we were able to order immediately which I feel probably wasn't the case for the spots that have been relentlessly featured on Tiktok. And I love the little kiosks they had, where you could easily customize your order. But since this was my first time, I wanted to keep it simple and as authentic as I could. So we got the beefsteak with onions and a combination of cooper sharp and cheese whiz. The sandwich was huge and easily fed me and my boyfriend. The meat was pretty juicy, and it was so cheesy, I loved it! The bread was also nice and thick, soaking up all the extra cheese. We also got the sweet potato fries, which were also delicious. But I kind of wished they were a little softer on the inside. So yeah, it was all really good. But because the sandwich was so big and cheesy, I quickly got a little too cheesed out. So I think next time, I would either 1) stick to one cheese, probably the Cooper sharp 2) just eat less or 3) add some veggies to the sandwich.

Somewhat pricy sandwiches but huge portions! They taste like the average cheesesteak. The restaurant is really big inside and has a lot of seating and is fairly clean. The spicy cheesesteak was honestly not super spicy but was sufficient.

This was our first time having cleavers. I'd rate this 3.5 stars however my other half did pick this up and then had a half an hour drive home so had I eaten there it may have scored better. Been here twice now and their portions go craaaazy. One cheesesteak is enough to feed 2-3 people. And it's delicious. Those cheesesteak eggrolls were also surprisingly so good especially with the sauce.

For a high-quality, plump, delicious cheesesteak in downtown Philly, Cleavers is the place to be. There's really no wrong way to order your sandwich, but here they recommend American cheese with your classic cheesesteak. I mean, come on, this is America where we are free to eat whatever we want in however much quantities, so show your patriotism by ordering your food with USA USA USA American cheese baby! Cheese whiz is the other option which many Philadelphians prefer. Equally important, they have a good draft beer list to go along with your satisfyingly tasty sandwich. If you only have one opportunity to grab a cheesesteak in Philly and want it to be the one of the best, then Cleavers is a great choice to obtain the symbolic sandwich! No, you don't need to make your way south to Geno's/Pat's for greatness. read more

If you didn't have a Philly Cheesesteak, did you even go to Philly? I never had a Philly Cheesesteak and a lot of the big names were quite out of the way from where I was staying. I ended up finding this spot two blocks from my hotel and it was a no brainer what I needed to get. I got the Cheesesteak (second thing on their menu) with provolone cheese on a classic bun. They set the bar pretty darn high for what constitutes as a great Philly cheesesteak. It's not overloaded with cheese so you don't feel fattening and sick from all of the dairy. The meat is not dry, but also not dripping with grease. It was pretty darn perfect for just steak and cheese on a bun. Very filling for just 10$ and the amount of steak you get. I will be using this place as a benchmark in comparing other cheesesteaks in the future. read more

Counter-serve cheesesteak restaurant and bar with plenty of seating. You can order and customize on a touchscreen. Not much of a wait when I was there, though it was raining at the time. The main seating area is upstairs. $14 for a cheesesteak isn't bad. read more

We were told to go here by a friend so we had to check it out. When I went in the first thought I had was, this place is so cute. It has a clean subway feel. Vintage yet modern, very cute. The counter area was very clean, I got great customer service, and I appreciated how the food was presented. I ordered 2 "Boss" sandwiches, one on bread and the other in a bowl. The one on bread came in this nice box that protected the bread so it didn't get squished and kept it warm. The other came in a reusable plastic container that I plan on keeping. The sandwiches came with sliced beef, carmelized onions, sauted mushrooms, bell peppers and sharp provolone cheese. My husband said the bread was so soft and flavorful yet held up to the sandwich well. I just wish my husbands sandwich had more filling as it seemed sparse for $12.65. The flavors were all right though I felt it could have used more seasoning as it was a little bland. As for the cheese, my husband loved the sharp provolone, however, I didnt and I wished I had listened to the cashier's recommendation of switching out the provolone for yellow cheese. read more

What is this ginormous cleaver special that I'm hearing of over 1 lb of ribeye steak for $21? A 16 oz rib eye at my favorite local restaurant is double that price. This was intriguing and the pictures on yelp made me drool so much that I couldn't help but to make a visit. We ordered that 1 lb crazy special, bbq cheesesteak, and loaded waffle fries. When the order came, that cleaver special was so wide and loaded that I couldn't fit it through my mouth in one bite. Micro bites were delicious and filling. Definitely enough to feed two. Loaded waffle fries was filled with cheese and bacon. Bbq cheesesteak was amazingly flavorful. Also, the two draft beers really helped perfect the steak pairing. This is a must visit ! read more

At first I was a little skeptical and hesitant about trying a cheesesteak spot located in center city. Everyone knows the best chesesteaks are found in the hoods of Philly, nonetheless I saw that Cleavers had great reviews and I was curious to see what the hype was about. Cleavers was really good. It's a store that gives you the option to either order out or sit in. It wasn't that crowded when I arrived. I decided to get the classic cheesesteak with fried onions and I went out the norm and decided to get a seeded roll instead of the regular roll. Now why did I do that. The bread was okay but the sandwich would have been fire if it didn't have them seeds. But hey I asked for it! When I tried my cheesesteak it definitely tasted like an original cheesesteak. Everything was well seasoned and the sandwich was huge. Definitely can't finish it in one sitting. Overall I paid about 12.00 and it was worth it. I will definitely come back if I'm in the area and want a cheesesteak fix! read more

The GF and I came to Philly for a long weekend and decided to randomly try Cleavers.... booooooy am I glad we did. SOOOO good! The Effin' hot steak and spicy fried green beans were both 5. The cheesesteak is among the very best I've ever had. Our bartender / waitress was extremely friendly and hospitable. We also got our drinks promptly and food was very timely as well. My co-worker and I were looking to get a sandwich delivered to our office and found this restaurant on Uber Eats. I ordered the BBQ Chicken Cutlet which came with chicken, barbecue sauce, onion rings, American cheese, and bacon! IT WAS PHENOMENAL! It was sooo filling, I could only eat half the sandwich. Forget about pat and genos. When staying in Philadelphia you must try cleavers. I had the italiano steak in a bowl. Mushrooms onions ribeye and provolone cheese. I added extra meat. It was huge. People like random locations for a philly cheese steak. I was told going to a place like here wasn't a "traditional" place to get one. Did I care? No. This place is so worth it. The place isn't a hole in the wall. Its real nice inside. They are so creative with their sandwiches and I support them. When I go back to philly I'm going back to Cleavers. Sorry, but that was not a real Philly cheesesteak. That was like one of the fake ones you buy in the Midwest. A sesame seed roll just does not work. The bread did not feel or taste anything like it should. Really sorry I made the mistake to go here. Gonna shoot the guy who recommended that. read more

On my first trip to Philly it was imperative that I tried a good ole Philly Cheesesteak. I tried the obvious others and were let down. Felt like their sandwiches were pre made, and were cold. But, CLEAVERS, has me wanting to set up a two hour road trip just to chill, get some cheesesteaks, and take a leisurely ride back home. Food was piping hot, flavorful, and very filling. Definitely made to order, and they added all add ins without an issue. Meat was juicy, greasy, and seasoned to the T. Sometimes you just need that comfort food on a chilly day. We need a Cleavers in NYC ASAP! read more

Visited Cleavers during a short trip through Philly and found Cleavers based upon exceedingly positive Yelp reviews. We only had time to experience one outstanding Philly cheesesteak and selected Cleavers, and are glad we did! Awesome Cheesesteak well right in the heart of the financial district/downtown Philly area. The team in the shop were friendly and helpful to a tourist and very understanding and supportive of a guy who was new to Cheesesteak. They provided all the pros and cons of various selections and steered us in a great direction. The Cheesesteak (classic with provolone, peppers, onions, etc) was meaty, massive and extremely delicious! The choice of cheese and toppings were great. It comes in an easy to carry and consume box for travel. Must have cheesesteak!! Highly recommend!! Great experience. read more

We stopped in for a late lunch and decided to eat at the bar. The bar is next to the entrance and there is also a seating area upstairs. The bar area is nice, it's a narrow bar with a few tables all the way back. The only thing that annoyed me was the beers on tap. They had I think around 18 beers and 14 were IPAs and 1 cider. That left 2 spots for other beers. I hate IPAs, I get people like them, but come on, let's get a bit of variety up in here. Anyway, I got a Yuengling and ordered cheese fries (Wiz on them), and a Pizazz steak. The steak was basically a pizza steak, tomato sauce, parmigiana and steak, but they also put fried mozzarella on it, adding that delicious snap. You can get the sandwich on a seeded or unseeded roll. It was beyond good. The fries were also really tasty. Really good cheesesteak place, that I would absolutely recommend. read more

Things you can't currently complain about here: The amount of steak on your sandwich The amount of waffle fries you get in a side of fries I literally had trouble picking up my cheesesteak hoagie at first And let me be abundantly clear here... I'm 100 percent fine with that There are three options for cheesesteaks that exist as far as I'm concerned: 1. Not enough steak in my cheesesteak *Response: (Thanos gauntlet snap) 2. There is just enough steak in my cheesesteak and I can pick up the bun easily and it's all gravy *Response: (slow clap) 3. There is an overflowing amount of steak in my cheesesteak and I brush some cheesesteak off for my second course. And guess what happens to be my second course after my cheesesteak? "Cheesesteak salad" *Response: (Ilana from Broad City doing a handstand on the wall and twerking) The cheesesteak was well cooked, definitely not overcooked. It was our first time visiting and we were trying to order on the kiosk, but the worker insisted we order with her. She seemed slightly annoyed when it took us a few moments to decide what we wanted. I've never had a bad experience here, but I've always ordered takeout rather than dine in due to the proximity to my school. The orders are always ready by the estimated time and if I get there early (like I have my last two visits) they start my order right away. I've never had to wait more than 10 minutes for the latter. I ordered the bbq chicken cheesesteak once and it was ok, but I prefer the cheesesteak eggrolls. If it were socially acceptable and nutrient-rich I would eat them everyday, along with the waffle fries I always order. I've also had the mozzarella moons and I loved them as well.. Place was pretty hip and vibey. The service was great. We didn't wait in line too long and it was pretty busy when we went. I've been told this place is a good spot to get good Philly Cheesesteak, and they were right! We got a couple of The Beaver and The Block and these sandwiches are a mouthful! Either of us could not finish our food but yo it was heavy on the cheese and it was really good. I would highly recommend this spot to all of the 'tourists' exploring Philly. My partner and I were in Philly just for the weekend and had to get a Philly cheesesteak. Reviews said this was one of the best places. The steak was tender and flavorful- not dry at all which sometimes happens with cheesesteaks. I did add the bbq sauce to balance potentially dry meat but it only added flavor, wasn't needed for moisture. Cheeses worked well together. Mushrooms were a nice touch. Sandwich was huge - ate half of it there and saved the other half for lunch next day (great leftovers also! Bread held up mostly). Service was friendly and fast, barely a 5 minute wait. Food was hot when it came out. (We also good sweet potato fries not knowing how big the sandwiches were. Fries were good. Not dry and crumbly. Good flavor.) Heard great things about this place, reviews are good and pictures of food looked amazing so i don't know why the food I ordered was subpar. There was not enough cheese and the cheesesteaks were dry. The chicken Caesar cheesesteak was very salty and dry. The fried pickles were the only good thing from my order. They came with a delicious spicy Mayo dip. Sooo freaking good the cheesesteaks here!! It was about $12 for a make your own cheesesteak in which I had American cheese and onions. I called ahead to place order and it was ready when I got there. They also have a bar upstairs so this seems like a great place for food and drinks. The cheesesteak had a lot of ribeye steak and the bread was soft and good. Turkey Salumeria ($18.50): Another (delicious) 12-inch soft seeded roll saturated with a delicious house creamy balsamic dressing (could have honestly drank this) + mild prov, LTO, sliced turkey and really great cherry pepper relish. The manager noticed the delay, kindly apologized, and even offered me a drink and chips while I waited. That level of hospitality goes a long way and left a great impression. I ordered the Philly Special along with the Hot Honey chips, and both were delicious. The sandwich hit the spot, and the chips were a perfect addition. Yum! I went to Middle Child a few weeks ago just after 3, only to find it closes at 3. Today I returned, around 1, and there was a good crowd there having lunch. I ordered the Surfer, and the Hash Brown Potatoes. The Surfer is Middle Child's most popular sandwich. It's made on a Ciabatta bun, and has a thick layering of tender, lean, House Turkey breast, with melty Swiss cheese, arugula, blueberry chutney, and Duke's mayo. It's hard to describe just how delicious this sandwich was. My biggest concern was the Ciabatta bun - it's not one of my favorites, as I've found them to be tough and difficult to bite through. My fears were quickly put to rest after the first bite! The bun had a slightly crispy exterior - and when I followed through with my first bite, the tender, soft interior of the Ciabatta was a pleasant surprise. In fact, it complemented the thick savory Turkey, arugula, chutney and mayo! It was one of the best Turkey sandwiches I've had. Now, if that wasn't enough, don't forget, I ordered the Hash Brown Potatoes. It said Hash Browns on the blackboard, see attached picture, but these 'weren't your Mama's hash browns'! They are described online as Latka'd Hash Browns. They are thick crispy squares that combine a potato pancake latke with a hash brown texture. The interior reminded me of my mother's potato kugel, which I still reminisce about. In one word, those fried crispy potato squares were outstanding. It's 'a must try' and goes so well with the Surfer! Last, but not least, the Limeade! It was so refreshing! Not too tart, not too sweet... just right! I've been able to withdraw funds fee-free across platforms like Venmo, Chime, and PA unemployment, which I haven't seen matched elsewhere. The machines themselves are highly functional, offering deposits and multiple bill denominations, with a level of flexibility you don't typically see. What's more, you can withdraw cash without your debit card by scanning a QR code displayed on the ATM screen using the app on your phone, which is incredibly helpful if you ever lose your wallet or find yourself without it. For added convenience, inside the branch, there's a dedicated machine that issues cashier's checks digitally. This greatly simplifies and accelerates what is typically a manual, time-consuming task. The 17th and Walnut café is impressive--the coffee is genuinely good, and the 50% discount for Capital One account holders is a great perk. It also serves as a free coworking space with reservable breakout rooms, adding real utility and a strong sense of community. Above all, the people and culture here foster a genuinely welcoming atmosphere. The team is consistently courteous and approachable. If you love yuzu, I don't recommend their yuzu soft serve HOWEVER their matcha soft serve is pretty yummy Their Hojicha was watery...I really hoped it would be better. I don't recommend it. The first thing I noticed about this restaurant was how packed it was, but despite the crowd, the line moved quickly. They had their system down to a science when it came to taking orders. There's outdoor seating available, as well as a small seating area upstairs. While there aren't many tables upstairs, it's enough for a few groups, and the atmosphere was surprisingly quiet and cozy, even with the limited space. The staff was friendly and helpful, offering recommendations when I asked. I ordered the classic cheesesteak, loaded fries, and a drink, but I noticed they also had waffle fries on the menu. They let me try them, and honestly, I wish I had ordered them too--they were perfectly cooked and seasoned just right. I opted to dine in since most people were ordering their food to go, and I figured I'd have no trouble finding a spot. I was right. The food itself was great and made me want to come back to try even more dishes. The cheesesteak was piled high with meat and had a good amount of cheese sauce on a toasted bun. It could've used a touch more seasoning, but I understand the cook might have been cautious about going too heavy-handed. The cheese-loaded fries were tasty as well, but next time, I'll definitely go for the waffle fries. Overall, the experience wasn't perfect, but it came very close. A must go if you're around Rittenhouse and you don't want to go out of your way for some of the more iconic (and overrated) establishments. These are premium cheesesteaks with generous servings and a variety of options for meat/toppings. You pay premium prices for it as well, but the quality is well worth it. Solid beer options too, if you want to crack open a cold one while enjoying the amazing food. Be advised: You need to specify toppings. If you order just a "cheesesteak" all you will get is bread, meat and cheese (and maybe that's exactly what you want). Spacious and comfortable upstairs seating with utensils/condiments. This was my first time eating at Cleavers and the food selection was up to par. However the experience I had was revolting. The male manager was yelling at the top of his lungs at one of his female employees in the bar area with patrons watching in horror. This lead to him literally firing this poor girl and asking her to clock out in front of paying customers (??). Making a ridiculous scene like this with the poor girl sobbing and begging to keep her job was unprofessional and made us all uncomfortable. I do not know the backstory of WHY this happened but no matter the circumstance, you conduct your business in the back, not in front of customers. I would not return. read more

I recently tried the Philly cheesesteak, and I have to say it was just okay. The bread didn't taste very fresh, and there were noticeable chunks of onions that weren't thoroughly chopped, which affected the overall texture and taste of the sandwich. While it wasn't terrible, it definitely didn't meet my expectations for a great Philly cheesesteak experience. The service wasn't the best and everything seemed rushed. Maybe that explains the chunks of onions. I would recommend getting your chew steaks elsewhere. read more

Wow. That was a pretty darn good cheesesteak. Not the best but still. I'm about to order one more to go. I love that there was lots of seating upstairs and that there was free Wi-Fi. The workers were extremely friendly and the food was not outrageously priced like a few other places I've gone to for cheesesteaks when in Philly. Service was just a little slower than I had hoped for but it was lunch time, so I guess that is to be expected. Overall, 4 stars from me. read more

This restaurant was recommended to me for a Philly cheesesteak sandwich. They have kiosk in the lobby where you have to order your own sandwich. Somehow mine came without a bun and when I asked for it they refused to give me one without me giving them additional money. They said that it was my fault since I didn't know how to use the kiosk. When I pointed out that the bun was included they said your mistake you pay. The staff is aggressive. I will not be back. read more

This is (without a doubt) the BEST place to go to for a beef Philly cheesesteak. The meat is perfectly cooked and tastes like sliced meat off of a steak, and the bread is the perfect consistency to go with the steak. It compliments well with an order of waffle fries and if you are into craft beers, they have a nice selection to choose from.
