First night in Philadelphia and I had to grab a Philly Cheesesteak....where should I go? Went to Yelp and found this delicious laid back/ unknown gem. I ordered the Beef Italiano with jalapenos then wondered to the bar side and got on draft Downeast  Cider Original since it was still a few minutes before happy hour ended. Plus who could resist the idea of a delicious philly cheesesteak with a smooth alcoholic drink off the tap. I loved how laid back and nonchalant this place was because you could order to go, order to eat there then grab a drink from the bar side while you wait for your sandwich to be made, or grab a bite and wonder upstairs to a quiet but casual seating area. I would definitely recommend trying this place when you can't go to other cheesesteak places that are further away. read more

Good service but frankly a mundane cheese steak (the cleaver)- it needed more browning because I found it shockingly bland despite all the cheese and meat. Bread is on par with subway. the Caesar salad dressing is not good and I ended up abandoning the salad in the fridge - they did add a lot of parm and croutons if you're into that. read more

First time in Philly and this place was within walking distance. Had Papa's Favorite and the loaded fries. Both were excellent.

Clean, friendly, fast and a great bite to eat if you're in philly. We came around noon on a Saturday and were promptly seated near the bar. The space is pretty chill and inviting. The bar was lively at the time of my visit. The food was excellent and the portions are definitely filling. Half a sand-which filled me up pretty well. Came here for a philly cheesesteak because we were in Philly for vacation and needed to try out this famous sandwich. We got two philly cheesesteaks and waffle fries. The waffle fries - huge portions, so crispy on outside and soft on the inside. I really liked these fries. Could eat these forever. Make your own cheesesteak - got American cheese with onion and pickles, it was really large portions too. I really liked that the pickles cut through the fat of the steak. You can customize your toppings so you can pick and choose which ones you want to have as toppings on your cheesesteak including your choice of cheese. The papa's favorite comes with preset toppings, it also has a really rich sauce. Again, portions are HUGE so this was alot of food. Overall, this was definitely a good place to get large portions and you definitely will not be hungry after finishing a meal here. If you're not super hungry, I would actually recommend getting one sandwich to share between two people. We were so stuffed after especially since the food was really heavy. Went to Cleavers for lunch a couple of weeks ago. It was pretty empty and we were the only people in line. My husband ordered first and got a cheesesteak with provolone and red peppers. They asked him what bread he would like and he said the regular kind. I read the Yelp reviews that said seeded bread was the way to go, so I was planning to try it! I ordered a cheesesteak with onions and wiz and waffle fries. They did not ask me what kind of bread I wanted and just assumed I wanted regular like my husband. I didn't realize they hadn't asked me until we had been waiting for a couple minutes. Thankfully it wasn't too late and they were able to make the switch. It still really irked me because what the hell? You asked my husband what kind of bread, but not me and then just assume I want the same kind? It's not a huge deal, but it's annoying especially because they weren't busy at all. Our sandwiches were really good and so were the fries! They have a good meat to cheese to bread ratio! Covid-wise: there is indoor and outdoor seating. Indoors you need a mask anytime your not sitting. Space is a bit tight, but they seemed to be trying to space out parties (but it's a bar space). This was the first stop after we got off the Amtrak. Heard famous stuff about this spot and we definitely missed out on the other time. Go in order with the cashier and they will call your number. I went this summer and Cleavers was a disappointment. Parking was a madhouse so I ended up 3 blocks away. I'm not a fan of sharp cheeses but love Provolone so I rolled the dice on sharp Provolone. I hated it, ruined the sandwich. And as I sat in their second floor seating area trying to figure out how to redeem this meal I was rained on by the condensation dripping off the air conditioning. I looked around and realized that several people were sitting in odd spots to avoid the "rain". We aren't native to the area so can't say if it's authentic Philly cheesesteak but it was very satisfying. I'm late to the Cleavers game. Eagles opening game of 2020 amidst a pandemic seemed like the perfect time to start. Everywhere in Philly has cheesesteaks. I needed a cheesesteak from a place that specializes in cheesesteaks. Ordering through Grubhub was extremely easy. I was also really impressed by all of the steak options and combinations. Their chicken sandwich selection was impressive as well. I went with a MYO: American Cheese, rib eye, fried onions and banana peppers. I added my own hot sauces at home. The sandwich was solid in proportion and was eaten in two installments. I liked that It came pre-cut in half. The roll was fresh but sturdy and smooth. I liked the chopped pieces of steak. The meat to topping ratio was also legit. Not the least bit greasy either. Better late than never. Cleavers is my new cheesesteak delivery go-to. This was easily a 4.5 delivery experience. The place I used to love burned down, so I had to find a new place to get my cheesesteak fix. Cleavers turned out to be a great choice. Okay - they use a sesame seed roll but it was still great and the half-pound of meat on the 10 inch roll was so filling and perfectly cooked and assembled, that that if you're in the neighborhood, you should definitely guve it a try. Not only was the cheesesteak delicious, service was excellent and the order was filled very quickly.
