First of all, I would give 4 or more stars for customer service, if possible. The lady that helped me with the order on the phone and when I arrived was very helpful and easy to work with...now on to the poor quality of the food. I spend over $300 to feed a customer and his staff in Temple. I've been to many may Texas BBQ joints and this by FAR is the worst. 1. The beans; no flavor and under cooked 2. Potato salad; no flavor 3. Brisket, how to you make it taste so bad??? it was horrible!! taste funny (like it was bad) chewy, dry 4. Sausage - worst I've ever had, they would do better just buying something at HEB and warming it up. The only good thing was the tea (4 gal was over $25!!! after spending $280 on the food) and the bread. The meat itself was good (I got a 2 meat plate with brisket and sausage), but the BBQ sauce was absolutely horrible. It was watery and flavorless, and didn't even look appealing. Seriously, worst BBQ sauce I've ever tried. When I said yes, I wanted sauce, I thought it would be on the side, but it was poured all over. Sauce should be there as an option only if needed-- truly good BBQ doesn't need it. Therefore, it should be on the side by default. The sides were decent, though not spectacular. Really didn't know if I want to post this but I need to warn the public. Was going to have surgery May 23rd and wanted to get some "great" Bar B Que. Used to live in Temple and would eat there twice a week. I've had better bbque out of can, than what they serve now. My wife and got there at 4:30. Order taken and colds rolls brought out and warm sweet tea (something wrong already). I got ribs, ask what sides the waitress starts naming some thing and then same some type of eggs noodles with sauce. Clem, what the heck does that have to do with bbque. Ribs had dry rub, that made the rib well really dry; wife got the half chicken and it was as dry as my ribs. She did say the salad was pretty good. The pinto bean were good, but not onions, picks, peppers or even corn bread. Now for the worst of the worst: ketchup and Worcestershire sauce salt and pepper. BOOM bar b due sauce. These people don't have the foggiest ideal how to make it, where to buy it or even where steal it. Ketchups and water (and I'm giving them that much) that was the worst excuse sauce I have ever eaten, any where. They don't plan on returning customers. No families came in, no 18 wheelers in of the lots or parking area. read more

The family and I eat at Clem's at least once a week and have always had wonderful service and very good food. This week my father-in-law turned 93 so I asked him what he wanted to eat for a small birthday party we were having at my mother's home. He said he wanted some BBQ ribs. I called Anna at Mikeska's and ordered the family pack for 6 people with a couple of extra sides. Not only were the ribs fantastic, but we had enough food for a family of 12! Plus Anna threw in a bonus sandwich for good measure. I highly recommend you give Clem's a try for lunch or supper. And a big thanks to the staff for bringing back the green pea side dish. read more

I have to say that this place has changed since the last time I was here with my sister back in the 90s. It's a full on restaurant now, but back then it was counter service with some long tables and benches. The food is still good though and the service was excellent this time around. Keep in mind most service depends on the waiter or waitress you get at the time, so I try not to judge too harshly unless there are issues with multiple visits (as that represents a management or training issue). I had my standard burger for the first visit and I wasn't disappointed and I LOVED the bread rolls (as a diabetic I shouldn't eat them, but I couldn't help myself this time). The bread is good if not better than some of the more expensive places in Temple that offer the same such as Texas Roadhouse. The patty was moist has that charred flavor that screams classic back yard BBQ taste, which is the whole point of going to establishment such as Mikeska's. Kudos to you guys and I will be back. If my next experience is as good, another star you will get. read more

So i left my house 20 minutes after i had called, i get there and she says that someone just came through the drive through and ordered like 8 of the same wings i was getting so i had to wait another 25 minutes. Ole Clem Mikesksa used to reign supreme of the Central Texas BBQ world. Long before I was old enough to have an opinion, I fondly remember the subtle smoky flavor of sliced brisket with a splash of vinegary saucy goodness pared up with sliced onions, pickles, homemade potato salad, and pinto beans. I first sampled it at a catered event for school and then another for church and another for 4-H. A few years later when I could drive I'd go to the old building on 57th. At some point, growth was inevitable. His kids, and grandkids took over and I presume pride took a backseat to profit It's really not the same anymore. Ate here today after the place I wanted to go was closed. The staff was friendly and personable and the location was quite spacious. The bread was so so but the butter was sweet and delicious. The brisket was a bit dry and I felt the serving size was pretty small. The pork loin was ok just a run of the mill piece of meat. The BBQ sauce reminded me of Arby's sauce, was very thin and lacking in texture. The sausage was very good, if I went back it's the only thing I would order. For sides I got potato salad which was decent, sorta sweet tasting. The green beans were kinda soft, maybe to much water not quite sure but I kinda just powered through them. Hands down the worst BBQ I've ever eaten. Actually it was so bad I couldn't even finish my meal. I had a chopped beef BBQ sandwich, French fries and pinto beans. They gave me a number when I ordered the fries, giving me the mouth-watering impression that they were being fried hot and fresh and would bring them to me when done. Nothing could have been further from the truth the fries were ice cold as were the beans. The meat was just plain yucky; I was able to force down a quarter of my sandwich before giving up in disgust. The restaurant seemed very clean. Service was fast and friendly. The food was pretty mediocre though. I wish I had read the reviews before we stopped. The homemade rolls were dry, and the cinnamon butter was more like whipped Crisco. The turkey was moist but the bbq sauce tasted watered down. Maybe they are content with mediocre. My brother ordered a 2 meat (brisket & ribs) loaded baked potato & I ordered catfish fillets, mac&cheese, cucumber/tomato salad. Service While waiting, the hostess refills my nephew's tea. A simple task. However she spilled it. Idk if she missed the glass, poured it to quickly, or if she's unaware of how a pitcher works. No big deal, right? She apologizes, walks away, and never returns to clean the mess she made on the floor. At first I thought she was busy. Nope. She's at her post twirling her hair. Ugh! I had to ask our server to have it mopped up. Food/Service cont. This is supposed to be a pit BBQ place. I don't think so. Our order was served 50 minutes after placing order. They must have gone out back to kill the cow, pluck the chicken, and gone fishing. The food was horrible. The chicken fried chicken were 2 tiny pieces with absolutely no flavor whatsoever. The grilled veggies were 5 over cooked and drowned in butter asparagus. The mac&cheese was mostly watery and in some spots, clumpy. The brisket, wait, what brisket?! I wouldn't even consider it to be an entire slice of meat. Smh It was tasteless, as we're the ribs. My brother enters BBQ competitions all the time and would know if the BBQ is authentic. He stated it was not. He said there were no signs of wood smoked flavors. He also stated the ribs were probably cooked in the oven. Hmm, so much for it being cooked in a pit. My fish was ok...5 pieces of catfish fillets. I think the best part of eating the fish was dipping it in the tarter sauce (which was really good). The cucumber/tomato salad...well it's extremely difficult to mess that up. Thank goodness they got that absolutely correct. As we ate our flavorless meals that took almost an hour to get...we sat disappointed. We were so hungry bc we had an extremely busy day and were long over due for a meal. You'd think the food would be terrific simply because you're starving. Wrong. Now to the check. We couldn't believe how expensive our food was. Especially since the service sucked, took forever to get food, and the lack of flavor. We were appalled. This was the worst restaurant ever. I really expected the traditional counter service at Clems. Why did you change this to table service? It takes such a long time. I get it. The waitstaff needs their money. Friendly young ladies but this is Central Texas BBQ. You stand in line, choose your meats and sides, sit down and eat. Don't try to be something you are not. The meats were OK.
