My hubby and I came here when we were visiting NYC for the week. We ate at so many great places while we were there, but this one really stands out! It was such a super cute little place, and the food was unbelievable! My husband had The Easy sandwich and I had The Schmancy. They were both equally delicious. I can't decide which was better. We also shared a raspberry cream brownie...not sure what it was called, but it was the best brownie I've ever had! It was perfection. Oh, and everything here is vegan! I really want to like this place, as the staff are fairly friendly and I love that they offer great vegan options (I'm not vegan but they taste good) and delicious fresh bread, however the food portions are SO small and overpriced. Also, expect to wait quite if ordering food vs just getting pastries/coffee. Maybe some people have the luxury to wait 35 minutes for a salad but many don't. We got there and they told us that most things are NOT ORGANIC. WTF! Just look on their web site it says "Grilled Cheese a mix of daiya cheddar and mozzarella." daiya is NOT ORGANIC. I live in an adjacent neighborhood and walk by here all the time. They have tons of outdoor seating and I usually stop in for an ice tea or iced tea lemonade which always tastes fresh and delicious. However, If I could give their baked goods 0 stars I would. As a sweets lover, I've wanted to give this place a chance, but drew the final straw at the last cookie I tried--truly awful and definitely the worst cookie I've had in recent memory. $3.50 for a double chocolate cookie that was virtually flavorless except for the aftertaste of old egg whites. I called many bakeries around Brooklyn and no one wanted the challenge of making this cake (I provided a sample picture) unless it was done in pricey (and inedible, in my opinion) fondant. Forget about vegan and gluten free - no one would attempt the design. This was the only place that was willing to even try and the results were spectacular!!! My review is based solely on MY customer service experience, as I didn't order any food or coffee. I was waiting for the B52 across the street in the pouring rain when a guy walked over from Clementines and politely told me I could wait for the bus under the bakery awning. When I walked over he offered me any tea I liked and told me I could even wait inside because through the large windows the bus was visible a mile away. I've waited for buses in the rain plenty of times and I NEVER had ANYONE come out of an establishment and offered temporary shelter...and damn well never offered me any type of refreshments. He even informed me that a customer was taking a taxi to crown heights and that I could possibly ride with her (though unfortunately I was headed to Bushwick). I'm not sure what his role is at the bakery (he didn't seem to be a barista...maybe a baker?) but it was probably one of the kindest gestures I've experienced in a LONG time (which we all know is rare nowadays in NYC). I was honestly having a pretty shitty day on top of the rain. And though it was a small gesture, it made a big difference. His name was Antwone (hope I spelled it right) and I hope he can see this review because it's very well deserved. Thank you again! Service can be alittle better. With my most recent visit, the lady cashier was extremely pleasant; she earned this eatery an extra star. Options are limited; what you see is what you can get. They have gluten free muffins and vegan muffins as well as the standard ones. If you do have a fav muffin, you may not see it the next day so it's also a hit or miss. The orange poppy muffin is a dream. So delicious. My second fav is the Expresso chocolate chip. Would definitely revisit this spot to cure my indulgences from time to time. read more

Every time I submitted it, it said "Oops something went wrong". This went on for 3 days. I then found what i thought was their email address. This bounced backed. Well, I'm a little late to the game here; today was my first trip to Clementine's. It's because I paid a visit to Screamer's pizzeria today that I decided: as long as I'm taking the G train, why not go to Clementine's? I've seen them represented at some Vegan Shop-ups, and for a time they were supplying cookies to Bluestockings bookstore on Allen street. I was told they're right off the Classon Avenue stop of the G, so I decided to come back that way today and get off at Classon. So glad I did; I ordered conservatively--got a few muffins, a brownie, and a couple of cookies. Oh--and I made sure to get a savory scone, which was extremely good. Would be good with soup; I'm sorry I only got one. I have no problem with the proliferation of vegan joints--particularly in Brooklyn, lately. I may have to retire my #vegandeprivation tag that I use on Twitter and Instagram, because I've been pretty satisfied lately with the vegan offerings to be had, and not just at the Shop-ups. The bakery items are the way to go in this vegan cafe. My friends rave about their scones. I tried the monkey bread, which was delightful - sweet but balanced, with rich, moist cake. I also got the tempeh Reuben, which was fine. The bread was excellent, and the flavors mostly worked together, but the tempeh itself was distributed unevenly, relatively flavorless, and quite dry. It really felt like a sauerkraut grilled cheese. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but is also not what I was expected. First of all, we have been devouring Clementine Bakery's yummy treats and food for at least seven years. Again, everything they make is soooo good. Not only are we vegans, but gluten intolerant and one of us is nut free too, so to have so many delicious options is awesome! Also, they are alway updating and adding dishes and baked goods. Highly recommend getting a birthday cake from them. We have for the past seven years and everyone who knows us knows that's the only thing we want for our birthday. Also their decorators are so talented and can create these amazing design that you dream up. We've had some pretty ambitious cakes created for us over the years. Oh and the staff from Tiffany, the manager, to the decorators, Shelly and Chris, to the front of house are all very nice and chill. It's become a real community for us and we always love to hang and chat with them. Seriously can't think of anything negative about Clementine Bakery. Also, it is amazing how they have adapted to covid. They now offer provisions and stepping inside is additionally magical with all of the plants hanging from the ceiling and the shelves to produce. Anyway, if you're looking for good food and yummy treats, go there even if you aren't vegan. Our dad eats everything and super picky about vegan food and to him gluten free stuff suffers because it can get dried out, but he's always impressed by our gluten free banana cake both in flavor and moistness. It's nice to have a vegan cafe and bakery in the area and their food is pretty good. There are good sandwich options and lots of space indoors to sit and catch up on the news. I'm a big fan of the scones and brownie options. The major problems here are that the staff is often aloof and very casual about getting your order in even while it's incredibly busy. Additionally, this cafe is popular with people who bring their laptops and take up space while not ordering much, so I don't really recommend this place to bring a friend to grab something to eat because of the selfish "campers" (you know who you are) taking advantage of the free wifi. read more

I went back to Clementine Bakery after a year or so, and I was impressed to find a much bigger cafe than before! It's now a lovely corner spot, and the original space is for wholesale (according to signage). They have outdoor seating and a hopping weekend crowd. There's a small hot food menu for brunch, which I thought was alright (biscuit and gravy was inexpensive, but I wished it were less salty), and sandwiches other times, I believe. The pastries are definitely the winners. Danishes and cheesy biscuits were my favorite. They also have a gluten-free case if that's your bag. read more

I ordered a large vegan cake from Clementine for my birthday (vanilla cake w/ chocolate frosting). The cake was DELICIOUS!! Even my non-vegan friends loved it and said it was better than normal cake. I highly suggest getting a custom cake made here. I'm only giving 4 stars because there was somehow a miscommunication about my cake delivery. I called the night before to cancel my delivery because I realized I was actually able to pick it up, and they confirmed the change, but the next day I had already left my house when I got a call that my cake was out for delivery anyway. This used to be our favorite neighborhood spot... until the expansion. My husband and I had been regulars for the past couple of years. The staff and managers knew my husband by name which just enhanced the neighborhood vibe. We even ordered our wedding cake from them in late 2015. Their gluten free options were great and they always had gluten free bagels (you can't even imagine, my fellow gf friends!) and bread as well as cupcakes, cookies, scones, and a gf cake of the day. They had started to offer DF Mavens ice cream as well. Pre-expansion i would've given them 5 stars. Then the expansion happened. We ordered a specialty birthday cake in August. They confirmed receipt of the order, but didn't call to confirm like they are supposed to. We called the day before pickup to ensure that the order was confirmed. A staff member told us that it was confirmed. We get there with the birthday gang and they never had the order. The next 2 or 3 times we've been there they have had a very very sad assortment of gluten free goodies. They have been out of gf bagels and/or bread every time we go now. Why don't they order enough anymore? The customer service is now pretty bad too. The staff is usually harried and completely lacking the people skills that used to be a great feature there. They don't really listen to your order when you're specifying gluten free and don't apologize for being out of gluten free bread or bagels, meaning you can't order much of anything off the menu. I'm sorry, but being an all vegan place means that your staff needs to be more knowledgeable about dietary requirements. That's just a fact. And given that they had so many gluten free options in the past makes the new regime (can you tell I'm pissed? Lol) pretty upsetting. We rarely go anymore because since my husband and I are both gf, it's a crap shoot. So sad. read more

I also fear for the worker's hearing capabilities in the future, or wonder how they go home everyday with massive tinnitus. I just want a gluten free cupcake dammit, not to be in a European techno club. Is it possible to enjoy something pleasant in a pleasant calm environment? Even more, consider how your workers will need hearing aids in less than 5 years. It's time for someone to teach these guys how to actually make a cup of coffee. 2 of 3 times a week I go in there the coffee is muddy and Luke warm. I've had kitten coffee at the location around the block so I know that it's good coffee, but the people at clementine do an atrocious job brewing it. The savory Danish is great and the sandwiches are a redeeming element of this place, but the muffin was wet and sticky to the point that it's just kinda gross... My dearest Clementine, I'm torn. I visted you three different times and I don't know if I should give you a hug or just a friendly wave. First time I had the ice cream and drooled at your baked good since I had no more cash on me so I had to walk away empty handed. You made me fall made in love with you from the small haul I gathered from the second visit. The two young ladies behind the counter, one of them baking were so friendly and engaging. The super moist banana bread, it blew my mind: it was soft, you could see little chunks of banana, wasn't too sweet. I ate it in one sitting along with another slice of fruit bread I got, yes it was that good. M. loved it too, he said your cookies are awesome. Another weekend I visited you, did a haul of similar selection and ran back home to boil water for my french press. Ready, sip, bite. Tears. It wasn't the same.
