We were excited to try this well recommended ice cream shop for our first visit to Orcas Island, but after getting ice cream there the past two nights we will not be returning. The service is lacking in even mild friendliness and after my kids put the toppings in their cones, "above the tray" as instructed, there was still a small mess, which was cleaned up right in front of us with the explanation to other staff members "just a minute, have a clean up here on isle 5" all for sprinkles on a tray. Ice cream was very good and great location. However, service was poor. We can wait in line and be sympathetic to anybody behind the counter, but when it's our turn and the server is short with us and borderline rude is not acceptable. Specifically, not being pleased with us asking for samples (even though the couple with no kids in front of us were fine to do so), and then when she asked my 7 year old daughter to repeat the flavor, she asked "does she have earplugs in?" Not a great confidence builder for any child (with parents trying to build that). We always tip and did not do so, and since we were on vacation (which always includes ice cream every day), we wound up going to the other ice cream places nearby for the rest of the trip. I wasn't going to post, but when I saw some other consistent themes I thought I should as any owner should nip systemic issues in the bud if they want to succeed. Customer Service in the Service industry is critical. Right now, max stars for location and the ice cream itself, but 1 star for service. read more

When you are in Island Time (and you really should be) there is nothing better than doing a 5-senses "treat yourself" day. I like to feel the sand in my toes, hear a concert in the park, smell the ocean, look at all of the amazing art, and taste the richest, most creative ice cream around. As you walk out of the heat and into the light, breezy shop you can hear fun music and the sound of excited scoopers rambling off titles based on local landmarks such as Buck Bay Blueberry, which, incidentally, is brimming with whole frozen blueberries. That said, it's really the smell of fresh waffle cones made practically to order that packs a punch and gets you drooling as you walk by. I love how they practically insist you experience as many flavors and combinations of flavors, and even have great suggestions for a half scoop of this and that. I enjoyed combining raspberry and lemon sorbet, coffee and coconut, and maple Blueberry to make Blueberry pancakes! And these kids are really hustling in spite of the laid back atmosphere. All in all, I look forward to making this experience a staple of my visits and hope that they continue to be an island fixture for many years to come! read more

Super cute inside, not overly crowded when I went (Thursday afternoon), and the owner was patient and friendly with the large group I went with. We were in the mood for ice cream after visiting Moran State Park. We knew where we wanted to go: Clever Cow Creamery. From the outside, it looked and smelled like a friendly establishment. A family of four was leaving the shop as my family entered. There was another person paying. A little girl came out of the back room which I believe was where the bathroom was located. My son got on a step stool that was placed in front of the ice cream case so he could take a better look at the variety. The other customers left and I was going to look for the bathroom when the woman working (dirty blonde short haired) closed the door and came to us and asked if my son was done with the step stool. My son looked at me and said yes. From that moment, I knew I didn't want anything from this shop, but I didn't want to back out on my promise for a treat. She was acting like it was closing time when she had 2 hours to go. She also educated us with the proper terminology of ice cream cones which I did not appreciate. The only good thing she did was replace my son's cone after he dropped it. I didn't order ice cream. My parents owned and ran a bakery and I make it a point to support local businesses, but it's experiences like this that make me think I shouldn't. So if you like being treated as second-class citizens, go there. There's nothing welcoming from our first and only visit. read more

The ice cream is the same ice cream from lopez ice cream. It's very good and fun to get an ice cream in the Eastsound village.... BUT the service is off putting and terrible. Last night we went and arrived just at 6 and she said it was closed... understandable as they close at 6pm but she wasn't even friendly about it. Tonight we went again. I was in line at 6 and she let the couple ahead of me in. I was the only person waiting there. I went to go in and she literally came over and shut the door and said she was closed. I mean, I was in line before 6. She then condescendingly said "oh, come back at noon tomorrow" ... not even a thank you or sweet statement. Rude, condescending and not service oriented at all - especially when business must be at an all time low. We went to the grocery store across the street, bought two pints of what we would have ordered at half the cost and ate it on our boat. We won't be going back. Fantastic lunch! Homemade soups and grilled sandwiches. The ice cream is made on a local island. The manager is super helpful and has the ingredient list which is very nice if you have allergies you need to double check on before ordering. We stayed at Orca's for 6 days, we went to CCC every other day. It's that good! On our first night there we walked in and the owner offered to make us warm waffle cones, they were amazing but the ice cream was even better. We ended up trying maple nut, salted caramel, chocolate peanut butter, coconut, and strawberry. With the favorites being maple nut and salted caramel but really they were all fantastic. read more
